Re: Poll: Can a Game's Brutal Difficultly Put You Off Playing It?

J2theEzzo

@RoomWithaMoose Yeah, I see that. Just remarking that lv 5 was a very "early game" level to reach Margit at. So, in terms of ER, I'd think those hurdles exist slightly less, because there's always an alternative route, or option of levelling up. Admittedly, not so much in other Souls titles, where there's generally some linearity.

I'm the type to intentionally choose "hard" mode when I play a game, because I enjoy having to utilise every system and scrap of power available to me. I don't think it's possible to reach a 'god tier' level of gaming without some challenge, and I'm all about relishing in those moments of balletic anarchy, when somehow everything just clicks.

@kailun I'd argue that playing fighting games or fps' online against other players requires much more skill, and I think probably still appeals to a large base of casual players, which is why people like single player content included. Admittedly, Soulslikes have such an appeal for the difficulty, and I guess there's a balance between earlier games having more limited ai (so easier) but less options (so harder), whereas ER goes the other way, and offers a lot of choice, but balances that with difficult combat/ ai.

@kailun I don't think it takes hours to get into a rhythm with ER, to be honest. There are a lot of weapons, which offers a pretty diverse moveset, so maybe finding your ideal weapon takes some time, but then you have summons and a "horse" to help with most of the combat, and even most enemies can be run away from, with the exception of major bosses (though you risk losing out on levels and secrets this way). It really comes down to knowing when to dodge and not being baited into dodging too early. It's a tug of war; you dodge once/ twice/ thrice and hit. Dodge and hit. If you're lucky (or skilled) you hit first and dodge less, but it isn't beyond the scope of most people's ability, I believe.

Re: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Is the Highest-Rated DLC of All Time

J2theEzzo

@Odium I don't personally feel that Mohg was so inaccessible, to be honest. I found myself finding a lot of the bosses naturally, just from a desire to fully explore the map. The fight itself can be tricky, but there's an item that let's you get 2 free stuns, effectively melting half the health before the fight's even started. With summons etc. I don't think it's such a challenge. To add, you can pretty much run past every other enemy on your way, if you so choose.

@Sequel In the very first xmen film, I'm sure he says to Rogue that it hurts every time he extends/ retracts his claws (as one would imagine it might). Would be cool to see this implemented in-game somehow, like losing health for using claws, but getting a buff to your damage output.

Well, your big main man is also his wife, and s/he caused the shattering because someone (you know!) assassinated their favourite god/child, in order to disrupt the... order (the golden order, that is!). A bunch of crones, led by some giant fingers, point the way to follow the order, but everyone is also trying to destabilise it? All roads point to the erdtree, but a lowly tarnished isn't welcome, so you burn it all down anyway, and only once you've solved/ smashed the riddle, and united the great runes can you choose which path to follow...

Re: Only 35% of PS5, PS4 Elden Ring Players Have Progressed Enough to Start Shadow of the Erdtree

J2theEzzo

@rjejr I think all the videos have been pretty apparent that you need to have beat this one boss before you can access it... it's all about Marika and Miquella, (who was just a sleeping egg in the base game.) and Mohg is the gatekeeper of the sleeping prince.

I think you've got the right guy though- contrary to everyone else's opinion... I'm sure he's the only Mog/Mohg that's close to a river of blood.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveal Has Utterly Torn Fan Opinion as Trailer Gets Slaughtered

I can see them doing a Suicide Squad, and giving this more time to cook after the overwhelmingly negative response. But I also don't see them being able to change it much, other than by dropping all the bright, campy, aesthetic and making it grim-dark. Seems most people prefer their high fantasy like that, which is fair. We all know which was the better trilogy between LoTR and The Hobbit...

Re: Worldwalker Games Going into Hibernation, Wildermyth Still Coming to PS5

J2theEzzo

Picked this up on pc (one of the few titles I ever did), as I was too eager to wait. While some campaigns can get a few limited/ repeated scenes, the overall game is exceptionally well done, with a great sense of atmosphere and it's great to see legacy characters come back to later episodes or campaigns. Very recommend for anyone who likes turn based/ tactical rpgs.

@Titntin I don't think you need to throw a controller away due to stick drift. I only recently got a case of it in 1 of my dualsense (presumably from it being carried in a bag and held in that position), but I gave it to a mate to fix, and now it's right as rain again. Supposedly, they're actually not that hard to open up and sort out. It voids your warranty, yes- but if you were gonna chuck them out anyway, you're better off trying to fix it and saving yourself 60 quid.

Re: PS Plus Essential Games for June 2024 Announced

Of course SoR 4 is a solid game, but realistically, who hasn't played or bought it already, if they were curious? It's about 4 years old, and it's not even the complete edition with dlc. A shockingly bad show for essential, as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Best God of War Games

J2theEzzo

@mckracken I don't think there's any such thing as a "good" God? Don't all the stories, across the Greek and Viking pantheons basically illustrate how terrible/ capricious all the gods are?

Re: Best God of War Games

J2theEzzo

Played them all, complete them all, platted just about every one in the original series. Personally, GOW 3 stands up as the best. I'd put the 2018 remake next, ahead of Ragnarok, which, while fun for the combat, had such terrible pacing issues. Also, not a fan of Kratos' character change. I understand they're stepping away from what made the original games (Greek drama, rife with family backstabbing) but Ragnarok just felt off and unnecessarily padded. If they could use the new combat system, but strip the game back a bit and keep the intensity up, they'd be onto a better formula.

Re: Strategy Legend Jake Solomon Explains Where Marvel's Midnight Suns Went Wrong

The cards were absolutely a problem. Deck building games had got a lot of hype at the time, and these guys decided to chase the trend, instead of doing something more natural and nuanced. The presentation was also totally lacking, in that it looked like a ps3 gane half the time, and the story and character interaction was so exceptionally cringe. A solid game, at its core, mired by all the trappings.
