It's almost like the "game" is just a despicable attempt at a franchise cash-in, slapping Lego on something in the run-up to Christmas and expecting it to sell. Because, reviews would suggest, it has a clear case of not really knowing its audience, or appealing much to people who like to play proper games. Too simple for adults, and children have no idea what Horizon is, supposedly. Have to say, I'm pretty tired of seeing another X Lego game. Feels like constant drivel without reinvention.
@Czar_Khastik I'm sorry mate, I know I've perhaps said something along these lines to you once before, but... if you keep being so sincere and sensible, I'm going to have to report you.... 😉
@Mirror_D_80s I actually prefer to play ganes on hard, first time if possible, and have a preference to play games twice if they arent inexcusably long- but even then, if they're good enough. So actually, I enjoy hard mode trophies, or trophies that require a new game + play.
After getting my 2nd plat for Elden Ring earlier this year, I revisited the ol ps4 Dark Souls 3; finished off my 2nd playthrough with a dex build, then went back to new game plus with my strength pyro build. Fought all the secret bosses, got all the endings, and decided that I was properly done with it, by that point.
It's a great game, undoubtedly, but I don't think it needs a remaster? From always use the same shoddy textures, and the game runs smooth, as it is. The atmosphere still carries nicely, so I don't think it needs a 60 quid remaster for a few nicer details.
@Fiendish-Beaver A little bit of both. A lot of reading, but some characters are voice acted and do deliver speeches and things. Beyond that, you'll hear a lot of repeated lines every time you engage in a battle, of which there are quite a few.
@Sergo Yeah, that's how I feel. If you really want to play with fancy lighting and all the bells and whistles, the pro is for you, but that isn't a reason to release games that aren't already optimised for the base console.
@Sergo I was just thinking- isn't this evidence that it doesn't matter whether you take the pro, or not; the point is, the games themselves need to be developed to run properly on the base console.
According to PS store, I think it releases at the end of November? But the reduced price for PS Plus members ends on December... Only 30 quid, also, for the base game, which seems a decent price for what it is.
Edit- pre-order bonus for the ultimate edition is 6 days early access, so December would be right for the base game!
@DennisReynolds I also was a bit put off by the npc's, and not really feeling the vibe of it so much as World. I've never been keen on the handler person, but this time was even more grating.
@Max_the_German I never played that one, because I didn't have a PS4 at the time of release, but the first 2 games (with special mention for the first, for multiple protagonists that had divergent routes in a level!) were exceptional shooters, with really solid controls and gameplay mechanics, and atmosphere. The graphics, cutscenes especially, were some of the best I'd seen on console, at the time. I'd even beseech you to just watch the opening videos for KZ1 and 2, because they really delivered!
Now, people say "they didn't sell well", and I think the marketing was maybe not great for them, but I really don't understand why people think, therefore, they aren't worth the time. I'll say, as with many things, they failed to reach the same peaks with the third game, and evidently fell off by the 4th, but Killzone 1 and 2 are absolutely deserving of praise and being replayed!
@Ainu20 I may be one of the very few people who would feel like a smaller industry, smaller budgets, and fewer games every year would be a good thing, ultimately.
So many companies are lamenting their, apparently, poor sales- but the average person is no better off financially, and expceted to buy one, or several, new games every month to support the games you want to play/ enjoy. Add the sense of feeling like your time is limited, as games grow contrastingly more expansive, and it becomes obvious why there's a slump in sales (for several titles or franchises).
Inbetween the push for live service, and rpg's that take up to, or beyond, 100 hours, one has to wonder where to find the time (or cash!) to keep buying and playing all the good games that are released.
@Medic_alert Yeah, that makes sense. I'm just saying the picture isnt as clear as "digital is the future", when I think it takes time to see the true spread of physical vs digital media, when one form has a lapsed release. I.e. if physical and digital release simultaneously for more games, the split might be more equal.
People like to talk about the overwhelming move towards digital media, but it's no surprise when the wait for physical is so much longer! Not many people are gonna double dip on a 60+ quid (or whatever) game
@nessisonett Preach! Totally agreed. I've been using the dualsense at odd occasions when I play remotely on my laptop, and even recommended my friend (who's a pc and xbox gamer) to get one, to try out- but it really is all the little touches that make the difference. Case in point: I went back to playing LotR: Shadow of War, and for nearly every little skirmish in the nemesis system, the orc's name gets read out of the controller speaker, and the sounds of clashing swords, or nearby secrets, all come through while playing, and it makes me smile and think- this is why I play on PlayStation!
@nessisonett Essentially, because Nintendo have (respectively) poor tech, they have to look to being more creative in their approach to games, because graphics are not their primary concern. Which brings us to PlayStation, where the most innovative feature is the dualsense, and that's criminally underutilised, even in first party games.
Yamcha was one of my all-time favourites. Back in the Budokai Tenkaichi 3 days, I became notorious (amongst friends) for offing overpowered foes with my wolf fang fist mixup game. Need to grab a copy of this and return to my throne! 😌 👑
@get2sammyb Admittedly, I'm being somewhat willfully egregious... 😏 I'm just a fan of healthy competition (and tend to be immediately put off by things that are 'popular', and I think it's a shame that creative hubs like Dreams get shut down, but such a big player like Fortnite gets regular success. Clearly, it does what it does well, but I don't think there was any such phenomena like it when I was growing up, so I'm a little wary!
@tpepper1985 Yeah, I can understand and appreciate that. It's good also, that a 'free to play' game has that longevity, so mkst kids don't feel peer pressure to be buying pricey new games all the time. Like you, I just think/wish that there were more alternatives available, rather than the space being dominated by fewer titles- but it's hard when the space also already feels quite over saturated!
@get2sammyb As a lifelong (and long time!) gamer, I have to say, I have a real hatred for Fortnite and its popularity. I hate seeing it in the top 10 all the time, I hate that it takes away from so many other great games that (I believe) deserve more attention, and I hate how the popularity of it has had a wider effect on today's market, and the things people push towards. I'm also not a fan of the aesthetics of it. I'll admit, having the option to make your own levels, or the weird unreal engine creator tools seem impressive, but... I've seen what it does to people/kids, and I am not a fan.
The application of smartphones to help with inventory management and character sheets etc. Is such a grand idea, and I really liked that about Crystal Chronicles, with the GBA. It'd be nice to see a few more rpg's try this, and especially local coop ones, so as to alleviate taking up screen space.
@Shepherd_Tallon As a chance to try PSVR, I was super impressed. And I'm generally a fan of horror films, so you'd think the two combined would be a match made in heaven, but no way. Watching a horror film is not the same as being in the horror film... 😱
@amatmulisha Yeah, it was harrowing, to say the least! I went in pretty blind, and my friend handed me the controls/ headset right before being pursued by some horrible thing that looked ripped right from The Ring. With a chainsaw. I was impressed, but maybe not half as much as I was spooked!
@Shepherd_Tallon First time using PSVR, I played Resident Evil 7 at my mate's. First time playing that title, too- though I'm no stranger to Resi games (although, playing 2 as a kid terrified me). In any case, it was like being a kid again. Freaked me right the **** out, and I had to put it down again, haha
@MFTWrecks Didn't seem to do any harm to vampire survivors, with literally only 1 stick to move and "attack". About as many levels, and surely not a wealth of different enemy types, beyond a few reskins. And yet... gloriously addictive!
As someone who was too young (and too chicken) to ever dare pick up a Silent Hill game, this one seems about perfect for a spooky October thrill, and I think I'm sold on the atmosphere. The use of the dualsense just tops it off, and sounds like a must-play!

It tried to be too many things and did none of them very well, and it got a Star Wars paint of coat, to help shift it, as no one would have any interest otherwise. Maybe they should have concentrated on making it a good game, before making it a Star Wars game.
@Khwarezm89 An online open world, divided into pve and pvp zones, where you choose a tribe, and fight back against giant robots could be pretty good. Like Monster Hunter, but via Horizon... Depends on how it all comes together.
@Perturbator Just not enough legs on them to compete with other offers, these days. Would be nice to see some more post-game options, and the inclusion of more intricate combos and character levelling, to inspire you to play it more and experiment a bit.
As in having an active time bar? That's not what the video above looked like... Or do you mean the remakes?
The point is, in some fights, you're against a vast number of enemies, and having to control 4 or so characters simultaneously, while trying to take advantage of things like setting up enemies for crits, etc. and keeping all your party safe/ alive would just be way too much to keep up with. At the start of the game, your total hp is about 10 points. That's 2 attacks, and you're dead. That translates to about 1 or 2 seconds in real time. In turn based, it's easy to manage, but in real time, there'd be no way to combat how squishy your team is, other than by giving everyone hundreds of hp, which essentially changes the game. This isn't Final Fantasy, after all.
@Scottyy Believe me, real time combat wouldn't work very well here. It's so easy to die in the early game, without proper control of your characters and strategy, you'd be seeing your party get wiped every encounter.
I just wouldn't see real time combat working here... a lot of tactical nuance would be lost, unless you were pausing constantly anyway, in which case you may as well play it turn based? Only a fighter would benefit from real turn, because most turns are attacks anyway, but I hardly see the use of it for any of the mage based classes, or half the martial ones. Pathfinder used real time with pause, and I have to say, you get lost in the pace of the encounters sometimes, and they're not half as ambitious as what BG3 does.
I really don't understand any score that's below a 5... it's a perfectly playable game, with lots of content options? Myself, I'd give it an 8. Solid, crunchy, fun; haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but the ai could do with some improvement in single player (on veteran, at least), but I've heard that's being addressed, so possibly a 9, with improvements!
