Re: Upgraded PS5 Pro Planning to Be the Best Place to Play GTA 6

LiamOliver

Is a PS5 Pro really needed though? I haven't noticed any real issues with my PS5 yet, whatever I'm playing for however long the thing stays whisper quiet and only gets warm, so it's not like it's having its legs stretched. Although I'd probably pick one up if they wasn't silly money, with the gap getting ever smaller between generations I'd rather Sony be putting all their efforts into a PS6.

Re: PlayStation Users Set to Lose Hundreds of TV Shows They Paid For

LiamOliver

I saw this sorta thing coming back in 2007/8 when I got my first iPod and iTunes purchases were being pushed as hard as hell. It is an inevitability that without physical media you will lose access to what you've paid for at some point, for some reason. Eventually.

Of course there's always alternative download sources...

Re: The Last of Us 2 PS5 Version Appears Inevitable Now

LiamOliver

Meh. Still haven't got around to Pt2 on PS4 yet, haven't even removed it from the cellophane... As for Pt1 remastered? I'll probably get around to it this weekend now I've done SM2. Unless something else crops up. My understanding is it runs perfectly well on PS5 and a PS5 remake would be wasted effort. If they start Pt3 now maybe I'll be ready to play it in 5 years?

Re: PS5's Twitter Integration Now Offline

LiamOliver

@zekepliskin You know what, I'll have to try that. My PS3 is chaos and I've so many PS Plus games on it, I really should get around to it so I can sort the wheat from the chaff, I guess at worst it'll give me something to do over Christmas! Although I still have my PS4 I haven't turned it on since I got a PS5 so won't bother with that. Although I just scanned through my library and yeah, PS5 folders would be bloody useful! 😂🤣😂

Re: PS5's Twitter Integration Now Offline

LiamOliver

@zekepliskin Thanks for a helpful reply, I was half expecting some flack for asking.

That makes a lot of sense, especially if you have a large digital library, I guess, seeing as most of the games I play are physical, it'd never occurred to me as pinning has suited me for the handful of PS Plus games that I actually play.

Although, on reflection, it'd be handy to have somewhere to stash all those Plus Essential games I will get around to playing... One day...

Re: PS5's Twitter Integration Now Offline

LiamOliver

I honestly don't get the fascination with folders and backgrounds. They along with twitter are irrelevant to me, I seriously don't see the point in folders, and backgrounds would be seen for a few seconds at most. I'd rather Sony focus on more useful things... Which they seem to be doing... Slowly...

Re: Yes, You Can Attach the New PS5's Detachable Disc Drive to Another Console

LiamOliver

@knowles2 This is what Sony want, people will pay slightly more for the disc-less slim, then 'upgrade' with a disc drive. And for manufacturing reasons all disc drives will be the same.
TronicsFix registered one drive to both consoles and switched and swapped them about. In some cases a factory reset was required of the PS5, but ultimately the drive would work seamlessly with either device once registered.

Re: Yes, You Can Attach the New PS5's Detachable Disc Drive to Another Console

LiamOliver

@trev666 Well, yeah. That was obvious as soon as someone mentioned 'detachable disc drive' or to anyone who had seen a teardown of the original disc and disc-less versions. It would also have been cheaper to not pair PS4 drives to the console, but they were hoping to get more money by sanctioned repairs or people replacing entire devices.
The fact that they are proven to be swappable between multiple registered devices and (allegedly) available as a standalone hardware purchase, or you being able to re-register the drive to a new 'disc-less' console if your main console goes kaput is much more reduce/reuse than we are used to in the current era of technology. Sony should try and take advantage of this angle as it's something that will resonate well with a lot of people whose finances are incredibly stretched in these times, and the greenies, whilst also being a stick in the eye to the likes of Microsoft and Apple.

Re: Yes, You Can Attach the New PS5's Detachable Disc Drive to Another Console

LiamOliver

I would really really like to think this intentional by Sony and they've decided this is a good move to support right to repair and console longevity, and we all know this is something M$ couldn't fathom doing with their console.

But I'll hold my applause because the cynic in me still thinks that at some point these drives will become married to a single APU and swapping will no longer be possible.
Because Sony.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Update Available Now, Here Are All the Patch Notes

LiamOliver

I finally got around to starting this earlier in the week and am quite shocked at how buggy it appears to be. I spent an hour (maybe more) last night playing as a tiny white cube and have had many crashes/freezes all week. A number of crimes have had to be abandoned because it either wouldn't let me finish the task, or there would be one remaining enemy who wasn't on the map. Subtitles have been way out of sync, duplicated or just skipped and some of the side missions haven't enabled me to start them.
Oh, and, it's made my PS5 black screen more than once and I've lost audio coming out of menus, forcing me to restart the thing.
Gotta admit this puts me off of getting games early.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Update Available Now, Here Are All the Patch Notes

LiamOliver

@Bartig I picked that up when I got my PS5 and did NG+ for the plat last week, as I'd simply not gotten around to it, that playthrough was a right 'mare, I was glitching into buildings, landing underground along with a few other oddities. I was surprised because my first playthrough was flawless, as was Spider-Man (PS5 version) SM2 has been buggy as hell for me too. Which has been annoying.

Re: Video: We've Been Playing PS5 Games On a 200" 4K Projector Screen, and It's Insane

LiamOliver

Definitely something I'd consider if I had the space but I bought a 55" Sony XH9005 in readiness for a PS5 (it was half price too and, thankfully, Sony eventually updated the software for VRR etc.) which replaced a 2015 full HD 43" model. Looking at it now a 200" display would be the whole frigging wall! Plus speaker placement is my top priority and they'd certainly get in the way.

Re: Poll: What's the Best PlayStation Startup Sequence?

LiamOliver

PS1 is the first one I heard, and that first time someone had nudged the volume control of the HiFi it was rigged up to moderately high, so it was loud and powerful enough to literally made the windows rattle throughout the building! None of the others could come close to that experience... Even now every time I hear it the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and I get goosebumps... Even had it as a message tone on my phone for a while (until I lost the file)

Re: Microsoft Goes Scorched Earth Over UK's Activision Buyout Block

LiamOliver

This stinks of "it's my ball and I'm going home" to me. M$ won't exit the UK market, the odds are much higher of me winning euro millions 3 draws straight than that happening.

I'm tired of big tech overrunning the industry and the pool of talent getting ever restricted, M$ and Sony are guilty of this...

Re: Call of Duty Is the Main Reason People Buy PS5, PS4, Says New Survey

LiamOliver

Percentages and statistics are very easily used to tell almost any story the statistician would like.
Although there may be some truth in this assertion, I do not know one person who specifically purchased a PlayStation console to play cod. And most of my friends play it (I never have and never will). I do have a friend that got his PS4 to play Fifa, and upgraded to a PS5 for the loading times but most of my friends picked up a PS5 because they were already in the ecosystem. One of my friends became a PlayStation convert after borrowing my PS4 and playing Spiderman. Funnily enough I'm the only one in my friends group who bought a PS5 specifically for GT7.

Re: Poll: Would You Be Interested in a Detachable PS5 Disc Drive?

LiamOliver

PlayStation are notoriously bad at peripheral support (think move controllers which have been all but unobtainium for at least 3 years) so this is a really bad sign. Luckily I have a PS5 disc already. One advantage of this is the eradication of failed disc drives being tied to the rest of the console though. I'd say it's a win for right to repair, but it really isn't...

Re: God of War Ragnarok PS5, PS4 Reviewer Threatened Over Lower Score

LiamOliver

That's seriously crook... Personally I'm keen to give the game a go, but it's not the be-all and end-all. And I'm sure that although there will be many millions of copies sold there are many millions more that are simply not interested in the game and thus would score it lower. I hate that as a global society we're being cajoled into a cookie cutter society...
Games are like art, ya likes what ya likes and it should not matter one jot to another, Nazi Germany didn't win the war.

Re: PS Plus Premium Members Bemused by Sony Once Again

LiamOliver

I was seriously excited for Plus Premium, specifically for the retro content. Upon launch it seemed pretty light and Sony weren't saying very much at all about it so I held off. Bloody glad I did, might give it a go if they add a few more, but until then I'm more likely to just purchase titles outright...

Re: PS5's Bonkers Dev Kit Looks Like an Alien Space Craft in the Flesh

LiamOliver

I was intrigued by the dev kit when it was first shown and wouldn't have minded if the launch console was similar. It struck me as slightly 70's though, and not in a good way. Comparatively I thought the launch console was pretty tame when that was finally revealed. I was slightly taken aback by the sheer size of the thing when I unboxed it, but it's a similar footprint to my HiFi pieces and looks correct under my TV with all the rest.
@kenshin4ever I was gonna say the same! My PS5 is sat atop the TV stand flanked by a PS4 and PS3 with a PS2 and original PlayStation underneath, the PS2 is probably my favourite mostly for posterity, but the PS3 is not a lot smaller than the PS5 yet carries itself with much more discretion.

Re: Sony to Take Action as PS5, PS4 Owners Play Less Than Anticipated

LiamOliver

I don't give a flying flamingo what Mr Ryan thinks, I'll play PlayStation when I can be arsed. Didn't help that Sony twisted PD's arm to shaft the player base over GT7 and they're insistent on releasing re-hash after re-make instead of expediting something a bit newer. I've got more than enough to do with my time than sit on my arse playing PlayStation day in, day out.

Re: Sony Strengthens Indie Bond by Loaning PS5 Devkits to Smaller Studios

LiamOliver

This is excellent news as that kit can be prohibitively expensive to acquire! Kena, Stray and a coupla others have done well, and not just because they look good, they've brought something different to the table which can only be good for the industry. The 'big' devs are too focused on perpetuating franchises which leaves them scared to innovate. Either that or their just complacent, or a mix of both, as I strongly suspect is the case with polyphony these days.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Update Adds Three Cars to PS5, PS4 Sim Next Week

LiamOliver

So 3 cars...? They'll be hagerty priced (you know, cos hagerty price real life limited availability cars. Everyone who owns a copy of this game technically has all the cars already) and most likely not usable in the majority of races... When are we gonna get new tracks...??? The GT series has so many excellent tracks yet all we've had to date is a different pit exit at Spa. Pretty sure this is another update that'll install but still not be played...
