Re: PS5 Slim That's Just 2CM in Height Built by YouTuber

LiamOliver

I thought this was really cool as a thing, and the thermal results were incredible. I'd even consider paying real money for it. He did gloss over the sheer size of the PSU and radiator set up, pretty sure I couldn't fit that behind my TV, but I'd find somewhere. Now if only it could accommodate a disc drive....

Re: Best PS5 Exclusive Games

LiamOliver

Great to see Astro's do so well. Probably my favourite PS5 exclusive, which surprised me somewhat. I'm still sore over GT7 and the dumb flamingoery that's happened with it (including being touted as PS5 exclusive initially until it wasn't, which became known after I bought a PS5) so I was surprised to see that so high. Spiderman is in a good spot, really enjoyed it and glad I didn't get around to the PS4 version. Still need to get around to Ghost of Tsushima though, I've had it since launch (re-launch?) and just haven't found the time as I get the feeling it's one of those that I'll play for days straight... One day. Promise.

Re: Rumour: Sony to Announce a Premium Pro Controller for PS5

LiamOliver

I really like the stock DualSense, but would consider one of these if the price was right... That's if it comes to fruition. Stick drift would be a minor concern, although it only takes 10/15 minutes to fit a new one. Although if they use completely different ones I would most definitely be waiting to see how they fare.

Re: PS Plus Members in Asia Irate As Sony Wipes Discounts on Tier Upgrades, Demands Upfront Fee for Stacked Subs

LiamOliver

I'll still give it a look, if they tell me I have to pay a lump sum for the 18mths or so I've left on PS Plus currently they can jog on. I still have all my PS1 games that work fine with my PS3, although my PS2 doesn't hook up to my (perfect for PS5) main TV and the PS3 is starting to worry me every time I turn it on these days... Meh, I guess we'll find out how greedy Sony really are in the coming weeks...

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

LiamOliver

@huyi When I pre-ordered in December there was no mention of any of this. We knew there would be MTX, they started in GT5, but there's a difference between pennies to a couple of quid per car to what they want now. Most people (probably naively, but myself included) expected something like popping the game into their console and playing the single player elements as they did with Gran Turismo through GT4, there is absolutely no logical reason for a mandatory online connection to play any part of the single player component of this kind of game, and they've proven why it's such a terrible idea.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Patch Restores Servers After 24 Hours, Polyphony Digital Comments on Microtransactions

LiamOliver

It wasn't 24 hours, it was over 32. Servers went off at 06:00 GMT and became accessible shortly before 15:00.the next day, so almost 33 hours without being able to play a game that cost me £90, initially I wasn't too bothered about the always online element, Sony and PD proved to me yesterday that I only paid for an extended rental, that ends when they say. Which is pretty much daylight robbery. After years of claiming the series is a labour of love and an homage to cars and motorsports PD have finally shown their hand. I'm in 2 minds whether or not to pack everything up, take it to cex tomorrow and trade it in for a GPU for my PC. PC games are cheaper and more accessible, after all.

Re: New Gran Turismo 7 Patch Lowers Currency Rewards, Fuelling More Microtransaction Criticism

LiamOliver

To be polite, one is unimpressed.

Initially I wasn't too bothered about the always online requirement. That changed today, having sat down at 745am once the patch had installed to play this after having taken a couple of days break from it and still not being able to play the game after nearly 12hrs I'm rather effing annoyed if I'm honest. Not only did I spend £90 on the 25th anniversary edition, but I purchased a PS5 last year specifically for this game (before it became known it would be available on PS4 as well) but last week I ordered the Fanatec GT DD Pro... That's a total of £1400 on hardware primarily to play one game. Yes I've enjoyed a number of games on the PS5 since I got it, but that's besides the point, PD and Sony have been taking the p!$$ with this game since before it launched. Adding MTX, reducing the rewards for races to push people into them are the final straws.

I am seriously sitting here considering cancelling the Fanatec order and selling the PS5 stuff and buying a scalped GPU and just sticking with PC gaming. Not. Happy.

Re: Latest PS5 Firmware Update Is Available to Download Now

LiamOliver

After almost a year of PS5 ownership (and pretty heavy usage) I'm pretty sure that my console has only crashed once, and that's probably more to do with the 'newness' of the game than anything. Currently it's running beta software and apart from the notification when firing up it does everything it should. There's plenty of updates in the pipeline. Hopefully soon one will add VRR and one of these articles may actually say something different...

The only issue I've had that may or may not be blamed on system software is the thing shutting down when my TV went to standby, but that was a simple virtual switch to get rid of that annoyance (can't remember whether it was on the console or the TV)... Now if only Sony updated their TV's with some system stability updates...

Re: Gran Turismo 7 PS5, PS4 Updates to Add Cars, Courses, and So Much More

LiamOliver

GTS was pretty well catered for with updates and cars so this isn't really a big surprise. I do sincerely hope that we get Tokyo R246 and Apricot Hill soon. I still fire up my PS3 just to do a few laps of those gems... 👍🏻 As for cars, I haven't really had a good look at what's included initially, but I'm sure there are a couple of classics that will show up eventually... I'm just happy there doesn't seem to be any grindy trophies such as GTS' level 50...

Re: Gran Turismo 7 (PS5) - The Real Driving Simulator Makes Its Grand Return

LiamOliver

I'm so excited for this to be delivered tomorrow I can't sleep (okay, today, it is 2am as I type this)...! I keep refreshing the DPD tracking info, fully knowing that it's not going to update until 7am at the earliest... I still have to get to level 50 in GTS, but that can wait, I will be mostly sitting in the PlaySeat from the moment it's delivered until Sunday night. Although I'm intrigued enough as to how polyphony have utilised the DualSense features that I will probably give it a go with that first, I will primarily be using a (hopefully soon to be updated) G29. Most of what I've read/seen has been very positive but I guess I will find out for myself in a few short hours...

@Salt_AU I have GTS/6/5/3/2, and in many ways it seems like the leap from GT5 to GT6 visually, I just want a modern classic GT game which this promises to be. We're in an era where visuals won't be massively enhanced, the physics engine was pretty good so even if they have rebuilt it from the ground up they will have been aiming for that and the hardware is so technically similar it would be unrealistic to expect any major differences in how the game plays and feels, so I've fully expected this to be GTS 2.0 since it was announced, even more so when it was confirmed to be cross generational. The major bump on PS5 will be loading times for me, ray tracing is nice in theory but I'm hoping it'll run at a solid 60fps at worst.

Re: Sony Ships Secret PlayStation Console Prototypes Overseas

LiamOliver

Pretty sure it's PSVR2 related... Most likely dev kits, but possibly mocked up hardware for hands on feedback (something in previous generations staff would have made the trip to peruse, but what with pandemics and wars and what-not...)

@Party_Cannon I really like this idea, but with the flop of yesteryear I can't see Sony taking that chance again. Would be pretty cool though, and would certainly take the fight to xbox. I have 3 DualSense' so wouldn't really need another, pretty sure that it'd cost a helluva lot more than £60 without though... And with Sony's prowess in the TV market I'd be more inclined to believe that they'd just make an app for that. Although being Sony it'll probably only be available on Sony android TV's from a previous generation and newer, most likely setting the bar from 2020's X90H/X9005...

Re: Gran Turismo 7's PS5, PS4 Platinum Will Be Time Consuming But Attainable

LiamOliver

I'll plat it! Might take me a while, but I'll get there, whatever they are. I pushed like hell over the past couple of weeks to get the 91 wins before they turn the servers off which I finally managed to get done yesterday, I'm currently level 47, so halfway to level 50 and I've won more than half of the campaign mode. I honestly cannot see how that much XP could be earned if they hadn't of added some element of a single player mode to it, although I got GT Sport at launch (albeit delivered 3 days after launch, c/o an ignorant, and now very ex, girlfriend) but work and life stopped me from getting into it until it was at least a year old, by which time campaign mode had been added so I don't know if that is the reason why level 50 is such a slog... But at least now I have all the server based trophies I can go back and platinum this at my leisure. I got the GT6 plat in one of the 2020 lockdowns as I had a bit of spare time, and was going to do GT5 but for the online trophies (pretty sure they were share a picture and a track, so pretty pathetic anyway) I just really hope they've put some effort into ensuring that GT7's sport mode isn't Destruction Derby by another name....

Re: In Traditional Square Enix Style, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Underperformed

LiamOliver

Marvel's Avengers put me totally off of getting this, after stumbling across a couple of reviews and a plethora of comments raving about the game I finally picked it up a couple of weeks ago (discounted by about 20%) but still haven't had chance to play it yet as I'm trying to get GT Sport finished before GT 7 launches... So I might not get around to it for some time now...

Re: Sony Taking PSVR2 Pre-Order Sign-Ups Through Official Website

LiamOliver

Done. All the info I can get on this is appreciated. Although I really hope that PSVR2 will be more comfortable for those of us whom are bespectacled... That's my only issue with any vr I've tried, esp. PSVR, worn for too long and I get bruises... 🙄 Unless I just have a funny shaped head... 🙃

Re: Poll: How Long Should Games Be?

LiamOliver

I think 30 hours is the absolute maximum for any kind of story based game, but shorter is okay if it's fun. Although VR should be 10-20hrs I reckon.
Sports games (especially motorsport) are different, a full F1 weekend can take a few hours each (practice>quali>race) so 50-100 hrs for a season wouldn't be unreasonable. However, I've just checked my playtime on GT Sport and it's over 616 hours and I'm miles away from the platinum. Driver level 50 seems unobtainium and I really can't be arsed with it anymore. Pretty sure I've not played it since 2020...

Re: Nothing to Announce on PSVR2 Backwards Compatibility, Says Sony

LiamOliver

TBH this was to be expected. PSVR isn't exactly on the cutting edge, and the move controllers are what, 3 generations old now?
That being said I'd be perfectly happy to keep the camera and peripherals for my existing VR games, it's the headset that bugs me most, well, the breakout box for it. It's getting tiresome swapping HDMI cables and stuff. I'm excited for the new version, but I still have a pile of games I haven't gotten around to even trying yet! I should probably get on that... 🙄

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Rated for Release on PS5, PS4 Ahead of March Launch

LiamOliver

GT Sport got better after it was released, but the grind for level 50, and the nightmare of the online races (and associated trophies) kinda put me off of the game altogether. Hopefully GT7 will be reinvigorating for me... Better be, I've already put my money down, I just wish they'd done some kind of collectors edition...

@Marquez @hypnotoad I'd be well up for that too... I miss the days when the only game you could guarantee to get on the latest PlayStation was R/R, pretty sure I still have my PS3 version so it's better than nowt I guess... Although Horizon Chase Turbo was free on PS Plus a couple of years ago, I still dip into it for stress relief occasionally... Maybe I should sit down and actually finish it off one of these days... 🙄

Re: Astro's Playroom PS5 Dev Team Asobi Teases 'Most Ambitious Game Yet' on New Website

LiamOliver

Sony have been trying to find their own "Sonic/Mario" for some years now, they've tried to make Sackboy the defacto PS mascot with little success, when I played Astro Bot Rescue Mission I really enjoyed it and saw Astro as capable of taking this mantle, maybe after the success of Astros Playroom Sony finally see it too...? I was never enamoured by the whole Sackboy/Little Big Planet series, it never appealed to me enough to make time for it so maybe I missed something, but after Rescue Mission, which I dabbled with when I got PSVR, and Playroom, which is unquestionably my favourite all-round PS5 game to date, Astro as a character has become quite endearing.

Re: PS Store Summer Sale Brings the Heat on 21st July

LiamOliver

I have nothing on my 'to buy' list (except maybe Beat Saber... one day...) thankfully. I'll probably give it a scan and see if there's anything interesting then forget about it...
@Pac_Bot @B_Lindz Mine too! (Sunday) although I'm also at the age where I'm not excited anymore... 🙄

Re: PS5 Digital Edition Revision Sheds 300 Grams, Revises Base Screw

LiamOliver

@Rural-Bandit I much prefer the disc-less version standing upright, but didn't have much choice as the majority of my PS4 library is physical discs and there's still a long backlog to play my way through, although laid horizontal it doesn't look too out of place under my TV flanked by an OG PS4 (functioning, but just for display) and PS3 (which actually makes the PS5 seem less of a chubb chubb) especially as the stand makes it look like it's floating between the two...

Re: F1 2021

LiamOliver

So... A friend asked me earlier if he gets this on the PS4 (as he still can't find a PS5, ya know, cos, w@nkers) when he is able to get a PS5 will his game save transfer over or will he be starting from scratch? (although personally I think it looks pretty poor on the PS5 compared to every other game I've played I'd be inclined to just stick with the PS4 version anyway I think...)

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 385

LiamOliver

After the F1 sprint race (still unsure whether it's a good idea or not) I was planning to spend the rest of the day playing F1 2021 now that Rift Apart is done and dusted, (way better than I expected, certainly lives up to the hype) but it's too fecking hot to be wedged in that seat so I'm sparked out on the sofa tidying up some of the CTNS stuff from spiderman... If it's like this again tomorrow I'll probably swerve the F1 game and start (finally) Miles Morales... After the British GP, of course... 👍🏻

Re: All Free PS Plus Games in 2020

LiamOliver

@Oscarjpc Which 5? I think I gave most of them a go just for the heck of it, Sims 4 was a loser for me as I played Sims 3 on PC, but the Missus loved it. Street Fighter was worth a look, I think the only downright "erm... Nope!" from me were were Goat and Farming simulators... Rise of The Tombraider was fun in a nostalgia way for me, although the Missus really got into it on VR... Fall Guys was... Erm... 5 minutes of fun, 10 of frustration...? I think my only duplicate was Uncharted as that was bundled with my original PS4... NFS Payback was okay, glad to have played it, even more glad I didn't buy it outright. The surprise of the year was Cities Skylines... I tend to get bored of games after a few weeks, that one kept me engaged, although maybe because it was easy to leave running in the background, and really helped with the trophy collection... 👍🏻

Re: All Free PS Plus Games in 2020

LiamOliver

Either me or the Missus have got into at least one game a month. I was surprised at how we both got into Cities Skylines (to the point it was my first Platinum) when that became available, we ended up playing it together. SFV was a blast from the past, I'm glad NFS Payback showed up as well, got so close to buying that since it was released, fun, but glad I didn't buy it outright. Nice that PSVR got a couple of freebies too (although only one I think was PS Plus related) seeing as I've not paid more than £38 annually for the life of PS Plus I sure as heck ain't complaining... 👍🏻
