Haven't finished "Ghost of Tsushima", yet (Love it and take my time with it.), but I'm pretty confident that their next game will be a successor to it. That's how SP has handled it in the past and that's the way it's done today, even for Sony (unless you are "Days Gone"). One thing, why I love Sucker Punch is, because they try something new even within a franchise with their sequels and DLCs. I assume they will change the hero and at least the region and therefore call it "Ghost of [New Region]", but keep the time-period, gameplay-foundation and open-world structure intact. There was a woman in an early side-mission in GoT who wants to become a Samurai, but isn't allowed to. I don't know if she shows up ever again later in the game, but I always saw this as a great subtle introduction for the main protagonist of a possible sequel. Maybe Sucker Punch pushes that whole conflict between honorable, offensive fighting Samurai and silent, stealthy assassin even further by giving you dedicated skills and/or weapons and gadgets you have to choose and you can not only become a Samurai but alternatively a real Ninja. I don't know. My imagination goes of the rails, but I think their is a lot of potential for a second game, when you don't think of a typical continuation of the story. I want to see new countrysides, maybe big cities. And please add food! What is the depiction of Japan (or East Asia in general) without showing some awesome food and people eating in company?
This is one of the few games where I consider a movie adaptation as almost impossible to ***** up, when made with the right dedication and money. The story could work exceptionally well as a film. It's simple and straightforward and you could leave out some of the subplots without harming the main narration. Real locations, an A-class cinematographer and as little cgi as possible. And with Stahelski at the helm, I'm really optimistic that the action will absolutely deliver. That's it.
(Oh, and there should be an alternative black and white version, of course.)
I finally have a PC that can properly run "Anno 1800". So that will be my main endeavor. My dumb console-action-gamer-brain isn't used to such cognitive demanding strategy-titles anymore and I have a hard time to even process all the information on screen. But I'm quite motivated and enjoy the change in program. I counter that with "Guardians of the Galaxy", which is exactly the stuff I normally play.
@Would_you_kindly Well, that is exactly what SHOULD happen. Some games change dramatically through bigger and smaller updates. Re-reviewing them should be the norm, not the exception. Of course, it's a different thing if that is practically feasible.
"Horizon Zero Dawn". Probably the biggest u-turn in my reception of a game in my whole life. Wanted to rush through it before "Forbidden West" comes out. But now I'm taking my time and enjoying every minute of it.
@TheArt I don't know. Not every game series should go the open-world-route. Naughty Dog has to drastically change their game-design-conventions to make a good open-world-game. Those parts where easily the most boring in all three mentioned games, with "The Lost Legacy" being the best in that regard, if you ask me. They design good smaller sandboxes for their core-gameplay, especially in both "The Last of Us"-games, but open-world? That's a different thing.
@MFTWrecks Yeah! That is REALLY misleading. My fault that I missed the "rumour"-part in the headline. But what makes one so sure it is "really" happening, when it's still a rumour?
Anyway, I would celebrate even a (well done) remaster, even more so with it's predecessor packed in as a "Collection of Chrono".
Ahh, a lot of good memories here. I worked as a game reviewer back then and probably never played as much as in that era, mostly PS3, but also a lot on Wii, DS and older games on PC.
So, this is my personal top 13:
1. Mass Effect (I know it's not a good port and I was pretty late to the party. But this is my favorite game of all time and it became it through this version. That's how much I love it.) 2. Mass Effect 2 (Yeah, I'm one of those weirdos, who thinks the first one is better.) 3. Tomb Raider (Right, the reboot. Bite me! I love it.) 4. Super Street Fighter IV 5. Rayman Legends 6. The Last of Us 7. inFamous 8. Batman - Arkham Asylum 9. Max Payne 3 10. Dishonored 11. Limbo 12. Sleeping Dogs
@OMG_Waffles Haven't finished "Human Revolution" (and therefore also not started "Mankind Devided"), which is odd, because the first "Deus Ex" is one of my all-time favorites. But I listen to the soundtrack regularly. Truly something special.
I'm a little bit surprised so many people seem surprised that the game turned out well.
I get the "Marvel's Avengers"-trauma and the general scepticism towards bad business by big publishers like Square Enix (rightfully so).
But Eidos is a great developer and while the first trailer looked admittedly somewhat seventh console generation, the second trailer appeared graphically much more advanced and highly imaginative. There was also no reason to believe the gameplay would be terrible.
I mean, it may not have looked like the next evolutionary step in gaming, but also not a pixel worse than other triple-A-games that are clearly flawed, yet people seem to buy in the millions.
Further proving my theory, that the perception of a game is in great part correlated to the hype the marketing manages to induce, not particularly to the quality of the game.
Haven't played the game, yet. So take this comment itself with scepticism.
Uummm, do you really now what the word "avant-garde" means? Because I definitely can't see what's so avant-garde about delivering every pseudo-cool hipster-style trend element you could possibly compress into three minutes and leave no place for something that is genuine or real.
Hmm, I'm sorry, but "Suicide Squad" looks like a game nobody asked for. I don't know how the comics are received (well enough, obviously), but in my eyes the self-aware, super weird over-the-top coolness is pretty overdone by now. And even if not, this seems too niche for the mass market. Didn't the new movie also tank pretty hard, despite mostly favorable reviews? But maybe Rocksteady could change that with a probably very polished and fun game. The beat'em up fan in me looks a little more forward to "Gotham Knights" even though I hate service-games and expect this to be the overall lesser game. But I just want to punch and kick hundreds of goons with Batgirl. Anyway, pretty interested to see more gameplay of both games.
Can folks here calm down, please? Yes, it looks similar, but "exactly the same"? Have you guys played "Streets of Rage 4" recently? It plays just in another league visual-wise. "Mayhem Brawl" also has hand-drawn graphics and a similar bright color pallette. But that's about it. "SoR4"s artstyle is more distinct.
And sue them? What the *****? Yeah, that's a great attitude. Just sue a small indie developer, because their game looks somewhat like a more popular game in the same genre? So should Konami sue Inti Creates then, because" Bloodstained - Curse of the Moon" looks exactly like "Castlevania"? Or just already note the upcoming "Baldo", because it looks like a Ghibli film. Oh, and how about every modern Anime Studio suing each other, because they all look the same? (I'm exaggerating to make a point, so DON'T!)
I just love the core stealth-action-gameplay of "The Last of Us - Part II" so much (melee needs improvement, though), that I almost don't care which mode they implement it in. I like Battle Royale and think it could be a great fit, if handled carefully. In my eyes the only problem with BR is, that it's often the whole game and not just one multiplayer-mode of several different ones. If we get factions, (team-)death-match, CTF whatever on top of it, I guess nobody has any reason to complain.
Still "Ghost of Tsushima" and probably will continue to do so for a long time, because I just love that game. Sucker Punch know that gameplay is king, but they also deliver the artistic goods. They are kinda underappreciated in my opinion.
@ShogunRok I have the impression you're seeing two comments from differents persons as one in your reply, which doesn't seem like quality observation to me. Why are you so pissed, anyway and take their comments super serious, like they were personal insults? You could totally read them as annoyed exaggerations to emphasize the fact that the PS5 is incredibly hard to get and that scalpers are indeed a problem.
So, it will take place in a South African township, be unnecessarily violent and the tone will be all over the place. AND it's a multiplayer-game. No, I'm not excited about this, at all.
I'm pretty hyped for this and happy that it's out soon. The two things I would really have liked seeing implement, though are dodge moves (like in SoR3 or "Fight'n Rage") and the ability to sprint for every character. Still, instant buy for me.
@NinjaWaddleDee This is a great idea. Would play that on top of a "Mass Effect"-space-sim, a "Mass Effect"-RTS, a "Mass Effect"-metroidvania, a "Mass Effect"-racing game and a "Mass Effect"-MMO. Just bring me all the "Mass Effect"-stuff. That universe and lore is so rich, all this should be super easy and lucrative. Sadly, the ending of part 3 somewhat destroyed all this potential. Let's see, if they can revive the franchise with "Mass Effect 4".
I'm really happy to hear that Square Enix hasn't abandoned the franchise after the last games didn't meet their (exaggerated) expectations. I absolutely adore "Tomb Raider" 2013 and also liked the (inferior) sequels.
That said, merging the original- and reboot-timeline (Is it a reboot anymore, then?) together is going to be a complete mess and pretty unnecessary at that.
From a gameplay perspective combining both styles can surely be for the better, potentially meaning more and most of all more challenging exploration, climbing and puzzles from the old games, but with the smooth playability and some of the spectacular action of the new ones.
Hopefully I can keep my beloved bow and the climbing axes.
And Camilla Luddington has to return to her role. I don't think, I could accept another voice actor as Lara.
But please, don't make this a service-game.
I'm also mildly excited for the Netflix series. Usually their animated output fares better than their notoriously lousy self-produced live-action efforts.
This is a lot less exciting than the Machine Games "Indy" news from yesterday or the IO "Bond".
While I think Massive is a very good studio and "The Division 2" was great fun in my 20 hours with it, until I lost every interest, because of all the gaas-grinding and unnecessarily complex systems. You still have Ubisoft involved, which means, it will certainly suck in the long run. Not exactly the best timing to give the "Star Wars" license, when they are at their historically worst (not financially, of course and that's probably all Disney is interested in), while EA is showing some goodwill, recently. Also, wasn't Massive working on an "Avatar" game, too. I wonder where that went.
One? Once? Maybe he's gay and doesn't bother... Sorry, couldn't resist. And if that in the video is his house, I'm pretty sure, he has a partner, if he wants to. And I don't mean that the way one would probably understand it.
@Areus In the original trilogy it is stated that the known races have only explored just 1% (!) of the Milky Way and didn't even activate nearly all of the Mass Relays. So, it's not fully explored in the slightest.
No offense, btw. I just think, there is enough potential for new stuff, even if they stay in the Milky Way.
My assumptuon is, they release the multiplayer-part stand-alone, possibly free for owners of the main-game and at a small price (around 20 to 30 bucks, I guess) for everyone else or free-to-play with microtransactions. It will probably be packed-in with the PS5-version of the campaign, but also DEFINITELY release on PS4.
Anyway, I can't wait. I really really like the gameplay of "Part II" and I hope Naughty Dog builds on that and delivers something quiet unique.
@Flaming_Kaiser At one point in life one will be tempted. This might be it. And it might be the exception of the rule, the same way I would probably play the ***** out of a "Mass Effect"-MMO.
You can't tell me that this wasn't supposed to become a service-game all along. The service just seems to be more ambitious than your usual set of skins and disposable side-missions, now. I'm not into that stuff, because I don't wan't the feeling of missing out, when I'm not playing the game, when the game DICTATES ME, when I have to play it, so that I won't miss out on allegedly cool content. So I'll miss out on such games completely. I would like to have a good pirate game, though. But this one needs on-land sections and a controllable character.
Ubisoft really is only interested in "serviceable" games, these days. That makes me worried about "Beyond Good & Evil 2". But I have faith in Michel Ancel.
And yes, you won't get another "Splinter Cell" or "Prince of Persia", folks. Not until Ubisoft figures out a way to put that open-world-gaas-coat on those franchises.
11/15 Played all of them, but not in English. So I got some of the object names wrong. (I don't remember the names, anyway. ) Loved the franchise, especially the first two. "Second Son" felt kinda generic. It still was fun to play.
More of "Beyond Good & Evil 2", a new "Prince of Persia" or "Splinter Cell" would be really cool, so they probably won't show any of these. I'm not interested in any of the other games. I mean, we had those like a thousand times over the last decade.
@keihtg I almost always use headphones while playing and am shocked, when I take them off and realize just how much noise the system makes. So, my advice is, try using headphones. 😉
Came here to see, if "Sword of the Stranger" is among the recommend Anime, because that is one of the best action-movies of all-time. The story is somewhat simple, but it's just such an insane pleasure and endlessly rewatchable.
"Samurai Champloo" is a cult-classic. It's a masterpiece. Nothing to add.
@DanM There's even a live-action-movie-adaptation called "Shinobi - Heart under Blade" from the mid-2000s. I remember it being okayish, pretty typical Asian stuff from that time period. But I haven't read the manga or seen the anime for comparison.
I was fairly disappointed in most of the first-party-PS4-games, so sequels to these games don't get me very excited. I EXPECT "Horizon 2" as the huge launch window title in this presentation and some gameplay-free announcement trailers for either "Spider-Man 2" or "God of War 2", though. Yeah, it's tough to just make up some new IP dreams and I don't have that much of a PS history to begin with, but I'm all in for an open-world-arcade-sports game and an old school arcade racer. Just nice cars, beautiful courses, maybe some customization, good AI (no rubber band!) and good multiplayer modes. Done. In the sequel territory: Since they are so old, they are basically new IPs, I vote for "Colony Wars", because I want a new space-opera and "Sypho Filter", because stealth-action with special agents with special gadgets. Win. Yeah, and a new "Tomb Raider", that has "Breath of the Wild" as it's main inspiration. Oh, and a sequel to "The Order 1889", that delivers on it's giant potential. Oh, and "Project Awakening". That looked awesome. And "Elden Ring", which I expect to be a launch window title.
I guess it's because neither "Uncharted 4", nor "God of War" or "Horizon" or "Ratchet & Clank" could excite me like everyone else, that this leaves me cold.
Also, it's all grim, sad and/or shouting faces, even for the games where the heroes are usually rather light-hearted. What a fun little introduction to see before every game. Humour is for babies. Sony doesn't make games for babies.
@RogerRoger True story. I rather get some games that I usually wouldn't try for the full price. In hindsight the best time was, when PS Plus offered some indie games at launch. I almost never play the triple-A stuff from the PS Plus offerings for some reason. But I played Broforce, Grow Home or Rocket League and loved them.
FINALLY! This is great news. I'm really eager to get into "Persona 5". But I'm struggling to get into such a gigantic game. Being able to play it in my native language will definitely make this easier.
While these lines are funny, they definitively kill every interest in the game for me. Cringey sexual allusions in anime, potentially written by eternal virgins, are not the exception, they are a plague. And as much as I like some animes, I can't get over this anymore.
Huh, that's a tough one... I haven't played a lot of the games that are considered the defining titles of the last decade or just not long enough, to give them a fair opinion, like God of War, NieR: Automata, Bloodborne, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher III or I just didn't like them, Horizon Zero Dawn, GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 1 for instance. So my options are pretty limited. I could say Mass Effect 2, but I view the predecessor as the pinnacle of that series. A certain time after I had played it, I considered The Last of us as the best game of all time, but my evaluation of it somehow grew cold over the years. Super Street Fighter IV is more of an update to a game, that came out in the last decade, so it doesn't really qualify for this list.
So, in the end, it comes down to Tomb Raider 2013. I really really love that game. It has some flaws in it's narration. But otherwise this is a nearly perfect game, that completely blew me away, when it came out and I finished it three times since then.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Dev Is Moving on After Two Years of Updates
This is one of the few games where I consider a movie adaptation as almost impossible to ***** up, when made with the right dedication and money. The story could work exceptionally well as a film. I counter that with "Guardians of the Galaxy", which is exactly the stuff I normally play.

No offense, btw. I just think, there is enough potential for new stuff, even if they stay in the Milky Way.
Re: PS5 Fans Are Curious if $70 Destruction AllStars Has Microtransactions
@thehappyaerithch More like it won't be remembered at the end of the week it launches. This is dead on arrival.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Multiplayer Will Be Worth the Wait, Says Neil Druckmann
My assumptuon is, they release the multiplayer-part stand-alone, possibly free for owners of the main-game and at a small price (around 20 to 30 bucks, I guess) for everyone else or free-to-play with microtransactions. It will probably be packed-in with the PS5-version of the campaign, but also DEFINITELY release on PS4.
Anyway, I can't wait. I really really like the gameplay of "Part II" and I hope Naughty Dog builds on that and delivers something quiet unique.
Re: Skull & Bones Reportedly Rebooted Into an Ongoing 'Live' Game
@Flaming_Kaiser
At one point in life one will be tempted. This might be it. And it might be the exception of the rule, the same way I would probably play the ***** out of a "Mass Effect"-MMO.
Re: Skull & Bones Reportedly Rebooted Into an Ongoing 'Live' Game
Re: How Well Do You Know inFAMOUS?
11/15 Played all of them, but not in English. So I got some of the object names wrong. (I don't remember the names, anyway. ) Loved the franchise, especially the first two. "Second Son" felt kinda generic. It still was fun to play.
Re: What Time Is Ubisoft Forward?
More of "Beyond Good & Evil 2", a new "Prince of Persia" or "Splinter Cell" would be really cool, so they probably won't show any of these. I'm not interested in any of the other games. I mean, we had those like a thousand times over the last decade.
Re: Poll: Did You Buy The Last of Us 2?
@keihtg I almost always use headphones while playing and am shocked, when I take them off and realize just how much noise the system makes. So, my advice is, try using headphones. 😉
Re: Feature: 15 Samurai Games, Movies, and Anime That Will Help You Get Hyped for Ghost of Tsushima
@ApostateMage Even if it wasn't for your unnecessary trolling, you would still be wrong and clearly don't know what "weeb" means.
Re: Feature: 15 Samurai Games, Movies, and Anime That Will Help You Get Hyped for Ghost of Tsushima
Re: Feature: 15 Samurai Games, Movies, and Anime That Will Help You Get Hyped for Ghost of Tsushima
@DanM There's even a live-action-movie-adaptation called "Shinobi - Heart under Blade" from the mid-2000s. I remember it being okayish, pretty typical Asian stuff from that time period. But I haven't read the manga or seen the anime for comparison.
Re: Feature: Our PS5 Reveal Event Predictions, Hopes, and Dreams
Re: Sony Breaks Silence with PlayStation Studios Reveal
I guess it's because neither "Uncharted 4", nor "God of War" or "Horizon" or "Ratchet & Clank" could excite me like everyone else, that this leaves me cold.
Also, it's all grim, sad and/or shouting faces, even for the games where the heroes are usually rather light-hearted. What a fun little introduction to see before every game. Humour is for babies. Sony doesn't make games for babies.
Re: PS Plus May 2020 PS4 Games Announced
@RogerRoger True story. I rather get some games that I usually wouldn't try for the full price. In hindsight the best time was, when PS Plus offered some indie games at launch. I almost never play the triple-A stuff from the PS Plus offerings for some reason. But I played Broforce, Grow Home or Rocket League and loved them.
Re: Persona 5 Royal Will Have French, German, Italian, and Spanish Subtitles
FINALLY! This is great news. I'm really eager to get into "Persona 5". But I'm struggling to get into such a gigantic game. Being able to play it in my native language will definitely make this easier.
Re: Sexually Charged ESRB Rating Summary for Sakura Wars on PS4 Is the Best Thing You'll Read Today
While these lines are funny, they definitively kill every interest in the game for me. Cringey sexual allusions in anime, potentially written by eternal virgins, are not the exception, they are a plague. And as much as I like some animes, I can't get over this anymore.
Re: Talking Point: What's Your Favourite PlayStation Game of the Decade?
