Split Fiction, hands down! And I think in terms of what has actually been shown, it's not even close. Witcher IV or Intergalactic - The Heretic Prophet (which is a remarkably lame and generic title) live solely by the pedigree of their IP and/or creators. It's perfectly fine to be hyped for those games. But best of show? Nah! Ninja Gaiden was another pleasing surprise with enough gameplay as was Project Century. Those are my three favorites. Elden Ring looked awesome, too. But that is almost boring at this point because every From Softwwlare game does.
I also want to spread a little bit of love for the terribly named Thick as Thieves, which looks like a fun concept and mention how insane it is that we get a new Screamer game, even though it a) appears nothing like the original games, b) doesn't look very appealing on it's own and c) gets extra minus points for not fully embracing the anime-cel-shading style in it's graphics. But I do love that it exists. Shows that even the most forgotten franchises can make a comeback.
@get2sammyb Yeah, and apparently videogame sites don't rate those games very highly, which could contribute to lower sales.
But really man, this is such a weird takeaway on multiple levels. The indie game scene has proven contrary time and time again, which makes your statement immediately obsolete. People tend to bring up this argument repeatedly regarding Immortals of Aveum for instance, completely ignoring that that game looks generic and unappealing as hell. In the case of Kunitsu-Gami, blame it on marketing, like Capcom is doing in an act of applaudable self-awareness. I had been interested in the game, but couldn't tell what you actually do in it until I played the demo and read some reviews. And even then... People often overestimate the amount of well informed gaming enthusiasts vs. the mass market. The former can't carry the whole success of a game. Also, the keyword here is "sales expectations", because we all know publishers tend to expect too much. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth didn't meet it's expected sales, either. So, apparently it can also happen to super big, triple-A, open-world-game,s who also happen to be remakes of the most beloved games of all time.
To blame that on the gaming community seems just a little out of touch.
Hard to judge the animation, when we don't get at least two uninterrupted seconds of it in this trailer. Anyway, watched it twice, now and think it looks really promising. I don't expect a masterpiece. But when I get solid action-adventure entertainment that captures the spirit of the games (which it does look like in my eyes), I'm fine. And who knows, maybe it's actually great. I think Netflix does better with animation, than with most of the live-action stuff it puts out. A little sad that Camilla Luddington doesn't voice Lara anymore. I think she absolutely nailed it in the last games. But Haley Atwell will probably do a good job as well. Can't lie, I'm looking forward to it.
Yeah, yeah, it's humor and all. But given that a good number of Trump-supporters are conspiracy theorists (even here in Germany many of those ***** see him as some kind of messiah), who are to dumb and to lazy to read beyond some lurid headlines, this is not the most clever choice for an article or at least headline.
For example, over here, a left newspaper once wrote a satirical article how left extremists get beer and busses funded by the government to drive to their demonstrations and actions. And to this day, some right wing idiots state and spread this as fact.
They can't differentiate a stone from a turd. And when they wan't to believe something they believe it. No need to give them some more ***** to feed their bigot members with.
And don't tell me, I'm exeggerating. The pandemic has shown the endless stupidity of mankind on an unseen level.
I'm absolutely in love with Lara's appearance in the last trilogy and especially Camilla Luddington's acting. Strong contender for the most beautiful female character in a videogame, ever, according to my tastes. Absolutely didn't need a change, particularly not to the clothes of 90s Lara. Despite all that, this is just an artwork. We no nothing about how she will actually look in the game.
I'm curious how people will react, when "GTA VI" will only run at 30fps on current-gen systems, because it will and how that will impact the sales, because it won't.
@Thrussted Germans. German PC-gamers in particular. Piranha Bytes has a huge cult status over here, mainly due to their "Gothic"-series, which set the template for every following game they made. In another dimension PB and their type of games could have become what are now From Software with the "Soulsborne"-style. They are unique and undeniable clunky (and infamously buggy), but also very dense, fascinating and rewarding. Their closure is kind of a big deal in most German PC-gaming outlets.
Personally I will never ever get tired of pixel graphics and I think in the indie game scene they haven't even reached the level of awe some of the examples from the 90s could provide. Still, a lot of potential for that technique. That said, it all depends on the artstyle. Not every pixelated game is visually appealing as much as every game with modern graphics (or just smooth polygonal graphics if you will) isn't either.
About "The Last Faith": Looks promising. But I guess it looks more promising than it might turn out to be actually great. For example, the backgrounds look a bit pale, bland, lifeless and lacking in variety. The elaborate (and impressive) animations might impact the actual timing or tightness of the gameplay. But on the other hand, it might also turn out to be the next indie masterpiece. Hope for the latter of course, because these types of games are totally my jam.
That's really depressing to hear. "Shadow Tactics" is an amazing game, with a level of polish, that puts some AAA-games to shame. It brought my faith back in German game development. I bought "Desperados III" only on sale and haven't bought "Shadow Gambit", yet. And now I do feel bad about that. I really like these games and Mimimi's commitment to the genre. Maybe it would have been a better choice to go for different settings. Outside of a few super hyped mega games like "Red Dead Redemption" or "Assassin's Creed" western and pirate stories aren't the biggest sellers. I wonder, what could have been, had they been given the opportunity to make a new "Commandos". Anyway, this is sad news.

@get2sammyb Irony? Because, of course, having a "Battle Pass" AND a "Fighter Pass" is not inherently confusing at all. It's nearly as not confusing as having tons of different editions to buy of a game, with different digital content and different access tiers. And because practically all games have it theses days it (which is wrong, by the way), that just evaporates every feel of confusion about it. And I would never in the world believe that these (dis)service game-shenanigans are purposefully build to confuse you, so that you better buy everything, before you miss a worthless emote. Like ingame currency, which is just there to make it easier for you to see how much money you pay, not to confuse you.
No problem, when people like certain service-games ("Street Fighter 6" will probably the first one, I pay money for on a regular basis), but just because something is normal, doesn't mean it's okay and there is seriously NO reason to defend this nonsense. Sorry, your comment to me shows a lack of empathy and comes off a little arrogant. If you have been sarcastic, I want to apologize.
@durxll123 It's similar to "Terminator", where the cyborg gets data shown on an in-eye display... which he then reads and analyses? 😅 Well, that is the charme of 80s sci-fi.
As a huuuuge "Avatar"-Fan, I'm very interested in the upcoming game, although I'm still worried. Not sure, why they choose a first-person-perspective, because I would imagine an adaptation to be very heavy on platforming. I think the main pull of the movies are their high level of immersion. So that should be the priority of the game. Maybe that's why they go with the ego-viewpoint. Can't bring myself to imagine that the story will be very interesting in the whole context of the "Avatar"-universe. It'll probably take place in the time between the second arrival of humans and the events in "The Way of Water". And that game has to be a real visual stunner. So they better deliver.^^ But I give it some faith, because I think Massive Entertainment is a good studio. I don't believe for a single second, that we will see "Beyond Good & Evil 2" (ever again), though. Which is a huge shame. That game had a vision.
With the Blizzard from maybe 15 years ago, I would be seriously hyped for "Diablo IV". But now, I have no faith that they won't reveal some absolute ***** practice with the game, last minute. I'm also of the kind that plays through the campaign once and be done with the game. So, I'll wait for a sale anyway. "Final Fantasy XVI" has yet to fully convince me. But there's a strong possibility that it will finally get me, big time. But I can wait, since "Tears of the Kingdom" and SF6 will entertain me until "Armored Core" releases.
People really use every opportunity to vote "The Witcher III" in any ranking's top 5, even if it doesn't fit there at all. ^^ Next destination: Best real-time-strategy games. Number 4: "The Witcher III". The people have spoken.
While I would also have liked this to get a single player campaign, I just have to say that the art direction is absolutely brilliant. I never really liked how "Halo" looks, but found the art direction in "Destiny" to be pretty phenomenal. This looks even better.
Hmm, maybe I'm getting old, but I think I would like to see the series step down from the ridiculous, cartoonish violence. Blasphemy, I know. And I don't say it shouldn't be bloody violent, but maybe not this over-the-top. Because this trailer had made me really excited for the "Mortal Kombat"-World until all the splatter started, which kinda corrupted the atmosphere somewhat. I know the insane and creative kills are a staple of MK games and it's certainly not a deal breaker for me, just a quick thought about how I also could imagine the series.
Surprising amount of negative voices, here. Personally, this looks like my 10 years old-self's dream come true. World Tour appears like a mini-"Yakuza", which is great. I love the art style and the tone. Seriously excited for the roster. Hopefully it's good, then this will be my game of the summer, until the absolutely insane end of August. Hype!
Ah, man, I really hoped for this to turn out a sleeper hit of sorts and was ready to buy it full price. But the lack of different locations and enemies in pre-release footage as much as that there where no reviews to find until launch-day already have been good indicators that it will probably don't live up to my personal hype for it. Too bad, since I'd love to support this kind of AA non-franchise revivals of of almost extinct genres. I'll grab it in a deep sale.
@Bentleyma "Obviously"? Well, I'd say they're at least somewhat controversial, see other comments. I think their benefit depends highly on the type of game. Five hours for an open-world-game seem okay. But for "Rollerdrome" for instance the two-hour time limit was probably the worst version of a demo the game could have gotten and I'd go as far as to say, it was perhaps actually harmful for the sales of that game. It also appears unfitting for a time-consuming, complex turn-based strategy-game. Why not take one or two missions out of the game and let them repeat infinitely? Those trials are handled careless and dumb. It's like they are thinking that it would be enough to just add anything to the premium subscribtion, without ever reflecting if that "anything" makes any sense at all.
"Kena - Bridge of Spirits". Unpopular opinion, but I seriously can't stand the narration of that game and cringe through every cutscene. Other than that and some rather punishing difficulty spikes, it's exactly my cup of tea and I like it a lot. Very excited to see what Ember Lab is cooking up next.
"Resident Evil 2 Remake", which seems great, but I can only play it an hour at a time or so, because it stresses me out.
Also, I was in the mood for a good pinball game. But modern examples are mostly too "realistic" for me. I find them extremely hard to follow. I need something more "videogamey" and found it in "Pinball Deluxe Reloaded". Normally, I avoid smartphone- and free-to-play-games like the plague (it's also on Steam FYI), but this is really solid. Easy to follow, but still with visual flavor, interesting tables, plays nicely and the monetization seems okay to me. Hope for a Switch-release, but will happily pay some bucks for it next month.
Loved "Shadow Tactics" and will definitely play "Desperados III" at some point. But this sadly does nothing for me. Would have liked the pirate setting. But this heavy focus on supernatural elements in addition to the exchangeable artstyle, which make it look like a million games out there, somehow kills my interest. And they certainly should have swapped the amount of gameplay and cinematic in that trailer.
@Northern_munkey Hmm, I'd say, this kind of game is rather rare these days and the iconic examples are pretty old. So, if it's a quality game, for now, it's pure existence is special enough. Also, there are even less games that blend third-person-shooting with elaborate close quarter combat. So, "Wanted: Dead" comes off as somewhat unique in it's own right, in my opinion.
Not much of an JRPG-player nor a "One Piece"-connoisseur, but I thought this looked like a quality game right from the first trailer. Yes, I only say that to show off what a prophet I am. Like I was absolutely right about "Tokyo Ghostwire" becoming a hit nobody had on it's radar... Well...
@Abarth_71 Well, I don't know if you can call that sexist. But unless they have a good narrative reason (which I highly doubt) it's definitely dumb, looks dumb, makes me think the developers are dumb (or just seriously need to bang at least) and ultimately hampers the immersion, especially when they want to tell a gritty, emotional story, which seems to be the case here. I don't think it should be a sole reason to dismiss the game, though. Hope, I could help you.
Stop this timed exclusive bs and buying away multiplatform titles from any system (that's capable. Sorry Switch!). Period! It's just pointless and annoying. And I can't imagine that those methods ever brought a significant number of players to buy a specific console. Make your own f'n games!
@anoyonmus A little correction: The name of the ship is Normandy. N7 refers to a rank of elite soldiers, of which Shepherd is one. You can also see it on her (or his) default armour.
I don't get the hype. Appears like a bog-standard racing game to me. And the stylistic elements look silly and distracting, the streets lifeless and empty.
I would love to have a cool fully cel-shaded arcade racer, but since I'm old, I mean an arcade racer in the vein of the pre-"Underground" "Need for Speeds". I will never get that, I know. But "Unbound" doesn't induce much excitent in me, yet.
Still mainly "Forbidden West", which becomes better gameplay-wise. There are even a few solid puzzles. Very appreciated.
Also, still "Radiant Silvergun" on Switch, which I love more and more each time I try to get a few centimeters farer in the game. Treasure really were a league of their own.
And I bought "Bayonetta" in a recent PSN sale, in anticipation of the third game. Never finished the original, only the second one, before I sold my Wii U. What can I say? It's "Bayonetta", so it freakin' rules. Still the most buttery smooth character action game series out there. Very excited for the third installment.
"Forbidden West" on PS5 is my main game, at the moment and I'm quite addicted. I'm not fond of every design decision, especially in terms of increased complexity (it adds depth in some places and creates unnecessary chores in others), but I still really like the gameplay and the grind. And while I generally don't care much about the narration in videogames, the game just reached an early plot twist that threatens to crank the trash-factor up to a level that will be hard to swallow. But I'll see.
Also, I've just started "Radiant Silvergun" on Switch and that was love on first sight. It's tough as expected, but the weapon system is such a blast. I can already see this becoming one of my all-time favorite Shoot'em ups.
Additionally I plan on playing "Resident Evil 0". The style of the old-school-"Resis" is somehow both terrifying and calming. This will be my Halloween-game this year.
The hype is real! It all depends on a fun combat system (and interesting foes to match it) and rock solid performance. The rest looks already fantastic.
Except for the out of place rock song, I liked the trailer. Strong art direction and atmosphere. It doesn't say much about the final gameplay, of course. But I will keep track of the game.
Looks decent. I've always been excited about the idea of a fire fighting/rescue/natural disaster action game, even and especially in the triple-A space. Could make for dramatic story-telling, spectacular set-pieces, interesting mechanics and graphical show-off, without resorting to shooting people, but instead rescuing them and overcoming varied obstacles in the process. I hope someday, someone will make such a game.
@NEStalgia You're absolutely right. I'm usually not someone who falls for overly ambitious promises by developers/publishers. What I actually meant (but certainly didn't express) was, that I believe Michel Ancel probably would have been able to put at least a core of this very great vision into the final experience, to deliver a really special game, even without reaching all their initial goals. Does that make sense?
I'm hipster enough to call the first "Beyond Good & Evil" one of my all-time favorites. But I lost most hope that the sequel will become anything special as soon as Michel Ancel left the project. Maybe he wasn't the best leader, but he was a great game designer and the one with the vision. Hiring a new lead writer seems to indicate Ubi is still serious about releasing this. I think at best it will turn out a decent action-adventure in space with nice art, but not nearly as ambitious, open and immersive as the game they re-announced back in 2017.
I love Sucker Punch ever since the first "inFamous". (a trilogy-remaster would be great) They have proven several times, that they can and will deliver DLCs and sequels that keep intact what made the original great, while still providing cool twists and ideas to make them feel fresh and interesting.
"Ghost of Tsushima" is fantastic, although I haven't finished it, yet. I strongly assume that for the inevitable sequel they will go for a different location, a different conflict and a different main character within the feudal Japan setting and call it "Ghost of [New Place]".
The most important things I wish for is firstly a more realistic simulation of the game world. Besides many repeated assets, I also witnessed things like people sweeping the floor next to bloody corpses, which hampered the immersion a bit.
And secondly, food. Seriously, food is such an important aspect of the culture of many Asian countries, like Japan. You will for example have a hard time finding an Asian movie that doesn't contain at least one scene where people eat in company. Seems like an outlandish complaint, but I really found the lack of food in a game that wants to represent historical Japanese culture to a somewhat authentic degree very apparent.
Still, these are no game breakers, of course.
Also, I could imagine they'll make the "Ghost"/"Samurai"-separation even more distinct, maybe with individual skills, weapons and gadgets and on the "Ghost"-path becoming a straight-up Ninja.
@Anke Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I made that assumption because Anke is a common female name here in Germany and we've been relatively strict with youth protection measurements in media, especially back in the 80s and 90s. So, I presumed that the name changing was solely a German thing. But a quick Wikipedia research showed that it was actually a decision made in the UK and has then been adapted in the rest of Europe. I've also been a huge TMHT-fan in my childhood. Enjoy the new game!
@Anke Your name suggests that with "here" you mean Germany? As far as I can recall, that was the only country that changed the original name, because "Ninja" sounded too violent for a kids show. But since Germany got a lot more "relaxed" about such topics over the last two decades or so and we consume a lot more English-language media, I guess it would be considered somewhat weird to stick to that old naming.
Niiiiiice! The tone... Yeah, well, that's something you have to go with oftentimes, especially in these style of games. I really like that they mix melee combat with third-person-shooting. That should be done more often. I also appreciate the somewhat contemporary or at least seemingly not too far in the future urban setting and playing as a badass woman. Don't care if the production value is not triple-A, as long as the game runs smoothly, plays well, has a deep combat system and a solid art-direction. One of the best announcements this year, for me. I'm pretty excited.

Re: Bungie Is Bringing Back Marathon on PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S
While I would also have liked this to get a single player campaign, I just have to say that the art direction is absolutely brilliant.
I never really liked how "Halo" looks, but found the art direction in "Destiny" to be pretty phenomenal.
This looks even better.
Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Announced for PS5, Out 19th September
Hmm, maybe I'm getting old, but I think I would like to see the series step down from the ridiculous, cartoonish violence. Blasphemy, I know. And I don't say it shouldn't be bloody violent, but maybe not this over-the-top. Because this trailer had made me really excited for the "Mortal Kombat"-World until all the splatter started, which kinda corrupted the atmosphere somewhat. I know the insane and creative kills are a staple of MK games and it's certainly not a deal breaker for me, just a quick thought about how I also could imagine the series.
Re: Preview: Street Fighter 6 PS5, PS4 Chucks the Kitchen Sink At Fans Who Complained About the Previous Game
Hype!
Re: Wanted: Dead (PS5) - A Fascinating Mess of an Action Game
Ah, man, I really hoped for this to turn out a sleeper hit of sorts and was ready to buy it full price. But the lack of different locations and enemies in pre-release footage as much as that there where no reviews to find until launch-day already have been good indicators that it will probably don't live up to my personal hype for it.
Too bad, since I'd love to support this kind of AA non-franchise revivals of of almost extinct genres. I'll grab it in a deep sale.
Re: PS Plus Premium Adds Two-Hour Tactics Ogre Game Trial
@Bentleyma Okay. I got you wrong, then. Sorry. And I agree to that extent.
Re: PS Plus Premium Adds Two-Hour Tactics Ogre Game Trial
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 461
Re: Desperados 3 Dev Returns with Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew on PS5
Loved "Shadow Tactics" and will definitely play "Desperados III" at some point. But this sadly does nothing for me. Would have liked the pirate setting. But this heavy focus on supernatural elements in addition to the exchangeable artstyle, which make it look like a million games out there, somehow kills my interest.
And they certainly should have swapped the amount of gameplay and cinematic in that trailer.
Re: Wanted: Dead Aims to Be Difficult, Like the Japanese Classics That Inspired It
@Northern_munkey Hmm, I'd say, this kind of game is rather rare these days and the iconic examples are pretty old. So, if it's a quality game, for now, it's pure existence is special enough. Also, there are even less games that blend third-person-shooting with elaborate close quarter combat. So, "Wanted: Dead" comes off as somewhat unique in it's own right, in my opinion.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - New Year 2023 Edition
@JudgeDredd Happy Birthday!
Re: One Piece Odyssey Looks Like a PS5, PS4 Must Play for JRPG Fans
Not much of an JRPG-player nor a "One Piece"-connoisseur, but I thought this looked like a quality game right from the first trailer.
Yes, I only say that to show off what a prophet I am. Like I was absolutely right about "Tokyo Ghostwire" becoming a hit nobody had on it's radar... Well...

Did my duty, but I am slightly annoyed by the energy drink and fast food questions? What is that about? Don't give these products such importance!

Re: Sword of the Vagrant Slices Its Way Towards 30th November Release on PS5, PS4
Re: Final Fantasy 16 Is Exclusive to PS5 for Six Months, Sony Confirms
Stop this timed exclusive bs and buying away multiplatform titles from any system (that's capable. Sorry Switch!). Period! It's just pointless and annoying. And I can't imagine that those methods ever brought a significant number of players to buy a specific console. Make your own f'n games!
Re: Next Mass Effect Gets a Tiny Teaser for N7 Day
@anoyonmus A little correction: The name of the ship is Normandy. N7 refers to a rank of elite soldiers, of which Shepherd is one. You can also see it on her (or his) default armour.
Re: Bet Against Rivals, Outrun the Cops in Need for Speed Unbound PS5 Gameplay Trailer
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 448
Re: Yes, You Can Turn the Effects Off in Need for Speed Unbound
@kyleforrester87 No. But most of the time and in this case: Yes!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 447
Re: Violent Delights and Mech Fights Abound in the Gore-Drenched Wanted: Dead
The hype is real! It all depends on a fun combat system (and interesting foes to match it) and rock solid performance. The rest looks already fantastic.
Re: The Lords of the Fallen Drops the 2, Brings Gothic RPG Action to PS5
Except for the out of place rock song, I liked the trailer. Strong art direction and atmosphere. It doesn't say much about the final gameplay, of course. But I will keep track of the game.
Re: Dead Cells' Lead Developer Goes Solo with Firefighting Adventure Nuclear Blaze
Re: Beyond Good & Evil 2 Just Found Its New Lead Writer
@NEStalgia You're absolutely right. I'm usually not someone who falls for overly ambitious promises by developers/publishers. What I actually meant (but certainly didn't express) was, that I believe Michel Ancel probably would have been able to put at least a core of this very great vision into the final experience, to deliver a really special game, even without reaching all their initial goals. Does that make sense?
Re: Beyond Good & Evil 2 Just Found Its New Lead Writer
I'm hipster enough to call the first "Beyond Good & Evil" one of my all-time favorites. But I lost most hope that the sequel will become anything special as soon as Michel Ancel left the project. Maybe he wasn't the best leader, but he was a great game designer and the one with the vision.
Hiring a new lead writer seems to indicate Ubi is still serious about releasing this. I think at best it will turn out a decent action-adventure in space with nice art, but not nearly as ambitious, open and immersive as the game they re-announced back in 2017.
Re: Sucker Punch Staffing Up for What Sounds Like Ghost of Tsushima 2
Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (PS4) - Brilliant Beat-'Em-Up Is Best in Co-Op
Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (PS4) - Brilliant Beat-'Em-Up Is Best in Co-Op
Re: Wanted: Dead Brings Daft Character Action to PS5, PS4
Niiiiiice!
