"In other words, the next time you see a major rumour about a big corporate buyout, we’d recommend you approach it with a hearty helping of scepticism."
Are people still getting blocked from playing their PS1 and PSP games on PS3 and Vita? I've been keeping my Vita strictly offline since I read about that.
@Titntin I know your comments got removed (I didn't ask for them to be, btw), but I'll just quickly give an answer. Basically, I'm just unhappy with Sony leaning more towards microtransactions and censorship in their games. I never said they're worse than other games companies, because there are definitely far worse. Have a fantastic day/morning/evening!
@Titntin Okay, wow. Didn't expect such a triggered response. Genuinely, are you okay? Are you having a bad day?
"...you must be blind to the real evil and harm that people should genuinely make a stand on."
I'm pretty certain it's possible to make more than one stand. I already don't buy Xboxes, because there aren't really any games I'm interested in, and Microsoft are pretty shady. As are many big companies. I haven't bought any Nestle products for around 7 years, for example. Tbh, the whole gaming industry (and world in general) makes me pretty sick these days. I was frustrated when I wrote that comment, as I'm sure you were when you wrote yours in response, because I came off as an ass, overblowing the situation. That's cool; I probably am. But I am genuinely trying to change my buying habits to give my money to better companies, not just within the gaming industry, but the world as a whole. It probably won't make a difference, but I'll try. And this is a PlayStation site, so this seemed the best place to vent my frustration of Sony in particular. Even if I am just shouting into the void.
This may be dramatic, but until Sony can convince me that they haven't turned into an ultra greedy, anti-consumer company, I have no intention of buying a PS5. Which is a shame. It looks like a great console, and I adore my PS4.
@HammerKirby3 @Korgon My apologies, I misunderstood part of this announcement. May is simply when they're removing credit card support from the eShops on the consoles in NA (as they already did in EU and JP). You can still buy on the website if your Nintendo Account is linked to your NNID on 3DS and Wii U (again, the same as what we've been doing in Europe for the last few years). So, you're right; we do have until March next year!
@Korgon It's a year in theory, but after May, you won't be able to add funds to your Wii U or 3DS accounts, only spend what's already on there. So in reality, Nintendo are only giving you 3 months notice.
@Northern_munkey In Japan there is a baffling inconsistency between movies and games. As you said, violent movies seem to be fine, but in games they've been clamping down harder and harder recently. For example, both Resident Evil remakes are censored here, and very often any western M-rated game will have some kind of censorship to blood and gore. Decaptations and dismembered limbs are banned. Also, bare breasts are completely banned too, regardless of the age rating of the game, despite being fine in films, TV shows, and magazines (you can walk into a book store here and see magazine covers with an anime girl with fully exposed breasts, right next to the kids' comic section). I think games are still largely seen as being for children here, but even so, the regulations don't make any sense, no matter how you look at them.
"you’ll need an Internet connection in order to make progress in offline modes."
Then it's not really an offline mode is it? Remember when games came with cheat codes so you could have extra fun?
Forgive me if I'm being stupid, but I thought the max capacity of a PS4 disc is 50GB? Does Tales of Arise require a day-one download to play for physical purchasers?
Good to see improvements in the betas of this game they are releasing. I can't wait until they've finally finished the game and we get a solid release date.
I mean, this sort of stuff used to be free in games in the form of cheat codes. So charging for it is a bad look, regardless of whether you feel the game actually needs the XP boost or not.
If this is the general consensus of gamers these days, then I'm seriously out of touch. It boggles my mind how anyone could be happy with being so lazy that they can't be bothered to swap some discs over.
Not to mention that switching multiple games all the time, really quickly, is just going to rot away your attention span.
Why the would anyone even consider this? I can just buy the games I want individually (most of which are cheap "PlayStation Hits" titles now), and still be able to play them after a year.

Re: New PS3, PS Vita Firmware Updates Strengthen Account Security
I haven't connected my Vita to the internet since it was reported that people were losing access to their digital PS1 games. Has that been fixed yet?

Then why do you keep reporting on them then?

Oof, that's poor form again, Sony.

Re: Sony Blocks Subscription Stacking As Pre-Paid PS Plus Cards Stop Working on PS5, PS4
Wow, Sony. Just wow. Let retailers take people's money, then don't give them what they paid for (and you advertised yourself). Shocking behaviour.
Re: Mini Review: Moss: Book II (PSVR) – A Sweet and Wondrous VR Reunion with Mouse Heroine Quill
I really hope this gets a physical release. PSVR literally takes 5 mins to set back up, so no problem playing it.

Yep, isn't that what PS Plus is for?

Assuming they don't cram microtransactions into the room of requirement, then hell yeah! Looks like the best Harry Potter game since the PS1 ones!
Re: Moss: Book II Squeaks Out a March Release Date for PSVR, New Gameplay Revealed
Here's hoping for a physical release. Absolutely loved the original!

@LiamCroft It doesn't state you need PS Plus in the article, though, so seems a bit disingenuous to me.

The Persona 5 Royal "Deluxe Edition" is £20.99, by the way, not £16.49.

So they backtracked on this one game, but are announcing all future titles will cost to upgrade. Considering it's free on Xbox, this isn't good news.
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to 2022, Says New Report
@PossibLeigh Ah, good to hear. Sucks about the pandemic, of course. Stay safe, and hopefully you can see your lady again soon!

@PossibLeigh Oof, man, I can relate to that. If you need to talk, just say so.

Re: Balan Wonderworld Contains Potentially Dangerous Flashing Imagery Before Day One Patch
Unacceptable. If it can cause seizures, the product should be recalled. Not a patch just to make it safe. That's ridiculous.

I really don't think it's that big of a deal. 5-10 mins is nothing. I can't imagine being so lazy.

Re: Sony Removes Cyberpunk 2077 from PS Store, Pledges Refunds for All PS Store Purchases
Why does this controversy feel so delicious? I shouldn't be enjoying this.
Btw, does this mean if you already own it, you could rush to complete it, then get a full refund, so you essentially got to play the game for free?

Congrats guys, this is the biggest piece of clickbait and flat out biased twisting of facts I've ever seen on here. And that's some achievement.
Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Collection Isn't PS5 Game Pass, But Its Value Shouldn't Be Ignored
@ThaBEN Thanks, but it's still just not something I'm interested in. I'm not paying to rent games, and for online which used to be free.
Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Collection Isn't PS5 Game Pass, But Its Value Shouldn't Be Ignored
@Subsided I play loads of games, mostly single player ones. Online isn't essential, and I'm not paying money to rent games for a few years.
Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Collection Isn't PS5 Game Pass, But Its Value Shouldn't Be Ignored
@Subsided Okay, sure. Call it free, call it not. The whole package isn't really worth $60 a year, in my opinion.
Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Collection Isn't PS5 Game Pass, But Its Value Shouldn't Be Ignored
@Subsided Pretty certain $60 a year isn't "free".
