@stu123 burn in is not such a huge thing anymore with current oleds.
When you play a single game for hundreds of hours, running the tv with the highest brightness (oled light) then it might become a problem but under normal conditions it’s very unlikely that a burn in will happen.
@BReal it’s a hot topic currently. We waited 18 months for the VRR feature. As currently not so many games offering a „native“ VRR support - it’s fine to write articles about it. When it will become a standard, no more articles are needed.
@Woogy then check your setup. The results especially in the Insomniac games are fantastic. I took long to finally get this feature but it’s pretty good.
@themightyant furthermore the statement from Sony that „it will boost performance“ is a bit misleading. It’s not wrong because when the framerate is uncapped it can succeed the capped framerate of course in some Momentes but people shouldn’t expect that VRR will boost performance in any magic way in their games.
@SystemAddict I expect it will help with Cyberpunk. The feature won’t be officially supported by the game this week but I would give it a try. I would expect that Cyberpunk receive a VRR update to a later date.
@KidBoruto with the games mentioned above you won’t notice such a huge difference. All of them running pretty stable, especially the games from insomniac. There was not really the need to hold off these games until VRR. I think the most expected title to receive proper VRR support would be Elden Ring.
@themightyant yeah true. In Germany a lot of people still have SD TVs but it still makes sense to offer HD channels or 4K streaming services. Why not offer such a feature. You see that this wasn’t the highest priority in Sonys list when they offer it 18 months after the consoles release. So nothing to complain. And it’s not needed for games. The console works totally fine on display without VRR or even 4K.
@themightyant not true in all of your points. The supported VRR range of TVs is mostly from 40 fps up.
Neuwert TVs true - but people bought a next gen console and some of them might already have bought a newer tv as well. LG offers these hdmi 2.1 features like VRR since their 2019 TVs for example. Three years now.
120 are not needed for VRR. But it ca be useful as well. Nearly every game with 120 fps mode struggles to hold this fps consistent in demanding scenes. Theses drops within the range from 80 - 120 hz can feel even smoother with VRR. In general I agree with you that more demanding games and next gen exclusives won’t offer a 120 hz mode every time.
@Ken_Kaniff it can be useful to iron out some minor flaws with frame pacing, slow downs and/or tearing. But yes, the hype around it is a bit too much. But it’s next gen and we expect nee features that weren’t available on the previous gen. So its nice but nothing groundbreaking. But I’m happy as well that the console finally receives the feature.
@Max_the_German we don’t know if devs will behave like that. So far most of the ps5 titles are optimised to offer stable framerates.
People will always complain whatever is happening.
VRR not available: Where the hell is the VRR support, Xbox has supported it since the One X.
VRR update arrives: Devs will become lazy.
…. Okay
@IonMagi Xbox uses one SDK for one and series games while Sony has different ones for PS4 and ps5. Both ways come with its flaws and advantages. Don’t forget that the PlayStation has a different architecture than the Direct X Xbox.
@ShogunRok dont get it wrong. VRR does nothing in terms of performance. The framerate is just synced with the tv what means that slow downs or tearing will be ironed out or way less noticeable in games. Also uncapped framerates make more sense with VRR enabled.
@Dezzy70 I think it’s only 32 Gb, but it’s not clear if this is limited by software or the ps5 hardware itself. Nevertheless the bandwidth is enough for the average user. You have a hard time to find any 4K scenario where 48 Gb of bandwidth are needed.
It’s enough for 4K 120 hz, the colour depth might be decreased a bit but it won’t really be noticeable.
@IonMagi the function might was added to the SDK due a very late date. Seems that games have t receive a Uodate to fully support it, otherwise they wouldn’t have added the support „enable VRR on unsupported games as well“.
@Quintumply oh nice! Really seems to be with RT like on Series X. I had in mind that even the SX version doesn’t support RT but it was a wrong info than. Nice. 20 bucks is a bit too much but as a Lego fan I will buy it in a discount sometime
@velio84 at least some new track layouts were mentioned in one of their postings as well - announced for end of April. Some complete nee tracks will be added as well but it will take time.
@Martijn87 pandemic & home office hs their impact for sure. Then they had to release the game to avoid the summer break or even later 2022. The largest bugs have been addressed with the first 2-3 patches. It’s ok like it is. Not the role model for polished 1st party games but it’s ok. GT7 was released in a pretty polished version.
@sanderson72 More information about it would be useful. Otherwise, the ps4 getting close to be 9 years old now. Who can blame a gaming/tech website when they focus on the new „shiny“ stuff. I know it can be still a struggle to get a ps5, but which gen before had such a long lifetime?
It’s a stunning support. Highly interested in the financial background to be honest. Does these still drive income and game sales after such a long time? I don’t want to bring too much business into it but I’m curious.
@PenguinL yep this can happen. Seems to be due to the production process or any kind of abrasion.
I can see this on mine as well, only on the side with the disc drive.
@Stocksy that’s true. The rabbit races are something that I don’t really understand. Why not having a qualifying and then a regular race with a regular start. It Dienst have to be that way in every race but at least for the larger and more professional races in the career mode.
Have to think back on DTM Race Driver (at least in Germany, Toca Race Driver was it in other countries) where this was so much fun.
@Stocksy you know how this is in current times with social media.
For more than 24 hrs the game was offline and not playable & credits you earn for races were decreased -> running trough the social media buff = game is a total disaster, worst racing game ever, you never get cars, you earn no credits in the game, it’s a whole mess and Sony betrayed all players…
Truth is: Game is great since the beginning, some flaws are fixed with patches.
Hmm. Would love to play good remastered versions of the games (also from part 3), but after the GTA trilogy I lost my expectations with rockstar and their remasters. Nevertheless hope this will lead us to a 4th party anytime.
@LN78 somewhere in between. Release version 1.04 wasn’t that great but also no complete mess. You see this amount of patches in nearly every open world game these days.
@Relygon feel free to play it.
Relatively simple Jump n Run with fantastic dual sense features.
Also there are a lot of Easter eggs and nearly any kind of PlayStation hardware that have been released as a collectible.
Highly recommended. A few hours for the platinum trophy and very very well worth it

These guys are simply insane.
Nr. 1 Ps Studio. I think they have overtaken Naughty dog as well in terms of their engine.
