Re: Microsoft Ponders More Video Game Company Acquisitions

@Rob_230 I see what you mean. I think Sony has earned a bit of loyalty this gen though and the market should hopefully reflect that. And mostly with single player experiences! Personally, it will take a heck of a lot more than whatever the developer of Fallout 76 (service game with microtrans stuff was already their canvas bag) is working on, along with Gears of War 6 and Halo 37 to get me to consider whatever the next Xbox is called (Xbox XS is it? CBA to google it) before the PS5 and any single Sony first party title.

@wiiware the difference is Sony had the Japanese market. So while it looked like the 360 dominated in the west, worldwide there was nothing in it, PS3 actually doing better by 1 million units or so. Whereas the xbone is a definite flop with PS4 leading by about 70 million sales at this point.

In short - microsoft are struggling to save the xbox brand and they don't have the in-house talent that sony has - like you said - to hunker down and crack it. They are desperate.

@Arnna Pushback against comments like that. Bending - though in fairness more misunderstanding or misinterpreting - language and context in attempts to gain a moral high ground that doesn't belong to you. Critical theory is yet another product of 1930's Germany the world would be better off without. Pushback against people feeling so cowed to speak about things that they start identifying with the right against their best interests (as happened in the UK).It all matters. Stand against hate. This is not hate.

@nessisonett well you already seem to sort people based on arbitrary melanin / hormonal differences and deny any content of individual character... so why not define by testosterone? You've gone much more absurd than that already, friend.

@arnna Because it's important to stand up for truth, regardless of whom it might offend, before we end up in one massive conservative hell-pit. The 'no advantage in sports' claim is utterly preposterous and you know it is.

I would wager that no one here wishes harm or offence on anyone, regardless of identity, but it's time to push back.

Who could imagine concern for the safety of women in private spaces would be so controversial? JK is still an inspiration to many (perhaps even more now that she has stood resolute and dignified during all of this. Not seen a single hater be able to construct an argument against what she said beyond the usual empty buzz words and "youre not nice reeee" shaming attempts. Glad to see a fair few on here not swallowing the ideological hate pill.

Re: Reaction: Why Hasn't PS5's Price and Release Date Been Revealed Yet?

Starkei

It seems like a bad time for a console launch. A lot of places are seeing economic uncertainty because of recent events and you got to believe that a lot of people are going to be keeping that money for rent and food emergencies rather than something as superfluous as a new game console with no games.

Nothing shown so far has really lit the fire of excitement about the next gen enough to override this either, especially with a good amount of PS4 hitters still coming well into next year and that Nintendo Switch only getting cheaper.

Because of this and because the user base for PS4 is so huge (4th best-selling console ever), developers will still want to release on it to access the biggest market possible, so it wouldn't surprise me if the cross-gen support period is much longer than usual.

Honestly, I think the next-gen is going to flop hard.

Re: Sony's First-Parties Have Perfected the Art of Compelling Trophy Lists

They're still kinda pointless. Only one I ever got was Death Stranding and that was only because it was perfect for sticking on really long podcasts (the whole of Jordan Peterson's bible series) and bezzing about my hard built network of ziplines. Think there was a poll in here a while back that suggested putting rewards with them such as new dashboard themes etc. That would be slightly more interesting.

Seven Samurai is one of those rare films where 3+ hours flies past like 90 minutes.

Would also add the "Samurai trilogy" also starring Mifune as Miyamoto Musashi. The second in particular is brilliant.

And the novel Taiko by Eiji Yoshikawa about the life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi from peasant, up through the ranks of feudal society as a retainer for Oda Nobunaga, to eventually unify the country. It's long, but very readable, with some truly epic battles, but also intricately detailed, philosophical and immersive, and you learn a lot about the history and culture on the way.

Also . . . no love for the Way of the Samurai games!?

I turned it off in frustration first time I played. Almost 100 hours later (during 2 months of uk lockdown) I'm having one last walk about for any remaining memory chips. They way it opens up and evolves as you go is incredibly satisfying. Its the first platinum trophy I will get that isn't a telltale game. But also, l never eeeeeever want to replay it and doubt I would have stuck with it if I didn't have so much free time. Also podcasts. Such a good podcast game.
