Re: Talking Point: Do Single Player Focused Games Really Need Multiplayer?

Stuffgamer1

@get2sammyb: Yeah, I suppose it's well-crafted and unique and all that. None of that makes me feel any better when I'm trying desperately to close in on my prey only to be suddenly done in by some damn poison yet again. I just can't handle trying to avoid enemies and track targets at the same time. The WORST part is Ubisoft's insistence to put skill-based MP Trophies in their games, though. If I could have earned my Plat without playing so much MP, it wouldn't have bugged me NEARLY so much. Again, something Naughty Dog has excelled at, although it looks much more involved for Last of Us. Heck, I hear even Santa Monica got that right with God of War: Ascension. IF Warner can do the same, I won't mind the Batman MP being there QUITE as much...but I'm not optimistic.

Re: Talking Point: Do Single Player Focused Games Really Need Multiplayer?

Stuffgamer1

As a serious Trophy hunter and someone who LOATHED the multiplayer in AC:Brotherhood, I blame the multiplayer for my lasting disdain for the series as a whole. Even after I got a boosting group together and finished my Plat on Brotherhood, I STILL have such strong feelings of resentment for having to go through all that crap that I have very little desire to continue playing the franchise. Yes, I understand a lot of people LIKE that mode...but I can't imagine why. It's infinitely more stressful than pretty much anything else I've ever played in a video game, and it's just not fun. At all.

As I mentioned on the Batman news post, I have to admit that adding multiplayer to a single-player franchise CAN work...Naughty Dog excels at this. But pretty much nobody else does, and that's a problem. Please note I don't REALLY count Mass Effect 3, because I feel it's much easier to make a good co-op game than a worthwhile VS. experience, and the developers made the right decision to limit themselves in that way.

And the real point remains that nobody has time to play EVERY multiplayer mode extensively. I'm hooked on Uncharted multiplayer, yes...but I don't play ANY other major online multiplayer game. Considering the size of my backlog, I don't REALLY have time even for U3, but there's no WAY I'd have time for a second game at all. Tomb Raider tested my patience, but I worked through what was necessary through a combination of boosting and the wonderful General patch they released. Any more, and I'd be totally off THAT franchise now, too. It was not a worthwhile risk on Squenix's part, IMO.

Re: Batman: Arkham Origins Takes the Battle for Gotham Online

Stuffgamer1

I don't care how cool this is in theory, I do NOT want multiplayer added to my single-player games, dammit! Naughty Dog made it work with Uncharted...I play its multiplayer more than I have the campaign...but that is the ONLY exception to the rule I've ever found, and I'm not even interested in finding another one because I just don't have TIME for it.

Re: Liege Smashes Stretch Goal, Marches onto PS4 and Vita

Stuffgamer1

Hmm...the Kickstarter page boasts "unique, high-definition, lovingly hand-drawn art," yet I find the RPG Maker base to be painfully obvious. That's not to say I'm against people using RPG Maker (I'm not), but I wish they'd be more honest about what they're doing here. Anyway, I was interested in the game until I read about it being "tactical" on the Kickstarter page. SO not interested in that gameplay style.

Re: No, You Can't Turn Off the DualShock 4's Light Bar

Stuffgamer1

That TV glare thing COULD be an issue...I have the PlayStation 3D display, and this thing is INSANELY reflective. As it stands, it's pretty common for the little red dot on the PS3 controller to glare back at me...and this light bar is obviously MUCH larger.

Re: The Last of Us Lacks Multiplayer Dismemberments in Europe

Stuffgamer1

@Snorky: It's supposed to add realism, I think...although that's debatable. This is very much the kind of game that benefits from the gore, though; helps hammer home the desparate situation the world's in, IMO. Dunno how that translates to the multiplayer, 'cause I'm not done with the story yet.

@Lopezdm: As the article points out, the PS3 is region free, too...so that's already a non-issue.

Re: PlayStation Vita Mega Pack Bundles Outrageous Value

Stuffgamer1

@Squiggle55: I just played through Size Matters on my Vita within the past month. It works just fine...you'll just have to download it on a PS3 or PC and transfer it over.

I'm not entirely certain that all these games will even FIT on that 8gig stick...either way, I think it's HORRIBLY insulting that they aren't doing this kind of deal with a 32 giger. I have enough content on my Vita that I had to start DELETING things to make room for more things on my 32 giger, so anything less is OBVIOUSLY crap. :/

Re: E3 2013: No, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III Are Not Exclusive to PS4

Stuffgamer1

@get2sammyb: I think I've heard the "exclusive experiences" line before...that one I recognize and yes, it refers to exclusive DLC for games.

@Snorky: Well, they did try a few years ago with the push for JRPG's on 360, but all they really accomplished was locking some great games (and some not-so-great) onto a platform nobody wanted to play them on in the first place...especially Mistwalker. sigh

@neumaus: People who don't own a PS4 should be slapped for being inane enough to go with Xbox One.

I agree with Jaz007...exclusivity helps build hype, even if only a little. Of course, this is an old debate...but one that will never die.

Re: E3 2013: No, Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III Are Not Exclusive to PS4

Stuffgamer1

@Gamer83: They care at least a little...after all, Destinly is supposed to be exclusive. Lots of indie games are going to be exclusive. It's hard to persuade a company that's dumped YEARS into a game already to go exclusive, though. Disappointing, but not surprising.

I agree, playing either of these games on Xbox would feel wrong. True, FF and KH have legacies with Nintendo as well, but MUCH less with Microsoft. A JRPG on an American console just feels wrong.

Re: E3 2013: Yes, the PlayStation 4 Is Region Free

Stuffgamer1

No, the handheld forces you to stick to a single PSN account per memory card. You can still get an out-of-region PSN account on a DIFFERENT memory card no problem. It's not ideal because you can't play those games on your main PSN account, but still...

Re: Gamers Bombard PlayStation Executives with Used Game Pleas for PS4

Stuffgamer1

As long as they don't do something SO RESTRICTIVE that I can't even share games with my own brother, I think I'll be okay. Still, it would definitely be for the best if Sony DIDN'T pull this BS. Publishers might think that getting a cut on used sales is a great idea for Xbox One, but they might sing a different tune when they realize NOBODY'S BUYING.

Re: PlayStation 4 Has a Significant Power Advantage Over Xbox One

Stuffgamer1

@rjejr: Neither of those games were PS3 launch titles, actually. Uncharted 1 released about a year after launch, and InFamous hit a whopping two and a half years in.

I hear tell the Xbox One has serious bottlenecking issues...but I wouldn't worry about it holding PS4 back too much. At the rate Microsoft is going, the Xbox One doesn't stand a chance in the competitive market. We're staring down the barrel of more Sony-exclusive third-party games...and it will be glorious.

Re: Reaction: PS4 vs. Xbox One - Moving in Different Directions

Stuffgamer1

"The company delivered a 60 minute case study on North American consumer tastes, with guns, sport, and the most mainstream of entertainment brands all factoring heavily."

I would appreciate it if you didn't insult my tastes like that.

Seriously, I'm American, and Microsoft's show was absolute garbage. Factor in the online requirements and unclear used game situation, and you've got a console nobody with a brain would want.

Re: Talking Point: PS4 Must Provide a More Palatable Shopping Experience

Stuffgamer1

@SuperKMx: I honestly don't have too much issue with most of what you said (even though I still dislike Xbox in general), but I disagree that their network is better. I get much better download speeds on my PS3 than I ever did on 360.

I notice that some of the requested features (specifically auto-background-download and the rating system thing) are actually things even NINTENDO does right now. Pretty sad when you're falling behind Nintendo in the online storefront realm, Sony.

Re: Talking Point: Sony Must Solve the PlayStation Vita's Memory Woes

Stuffgamer1

@rastamadeus: Well, I dunno what to tell you about controller prices, because what you stated isn't accurate to America. Wii Remote plus Nunchuk still adds up to $60 here, 360 controller and Wii U Pro Controller are $50, PS3 controller $55. I figure PS3 can get away with at least SOME more just because of all the different features in it...the rechargeable battery is wonderful, of course (matched only by Wii U Pro), and it also has the rumble and sixaxis stuff raising the cost. I do wish controllers were still as cheap as last gen, but sadly those days appear to be gone forever.

Re: Talking Point: Sony Must Solve the PlayStation Vita's Memory Woes

Stuffgamer1

32 gig, and I'm rapidly running out of room on THAT. Sony really needs to fix this situation...I swear, the prices dropped much faster on PSP memory sticks, and there were always new, bigger sizes coming out. I knew when the Vita released that 32 wasn't going to cut it forever, but it was the most I could get! The fact that this is STILL the case is absurd.

Re: Feature: Five PS4 Announcements That Could Steal the Next Xbox's Thunder

Stuffgamer1

I think a GTA deal would steal the most thunder...not because I would care personally (I wouldn't), but because it's the biggest, most relevant franchise on the list at the moment. More Uncharted isn't going to convince people not to buy Xbox...if Uncharted was going to do that, it would have already done so, but it is instead a series that appeals to preexisting Sony fans. Same thing with The Last Guardian. And Final Fantasy...well, they've been losing a LOT of customer faith of late, so I'm really not sure it would be a widely agreed-upon boon for PlayStation. Of course, I really don't give a crap about a hardware reveal, and I still don't see why anybody would. Sure, it might be nice to see the thing, but that alone can't POSSIBLY result in people wanting to buy it; it needs games.

Re: Reaction: PlayStation Vita's Prospects Look Poor, But We're Still Smiling

Stuffgamer1

I've always felt that the handheld experience is better suited to a different style of play than consoles anyway, so I'm just fine with the Vita being populated mostly with smaller games. Growing up, handhelds had a distinctly different feel from consoles...and I LIKE that; I miss it.

While I wouldn't say the Vita is overflowing with content, it's certainly got enough to be selling better than it is. I still think the #1 sales barrier is the price of storage. Sure, I was willing to plop down $100 for the biggest card at launch, but many people aren't...and I don't really blame them. There's no WAY this proprietary card format is expensive enough to make to justify the sale price, and it would definitely be in Sony's best interest to FIX IT!
