Re: Site News: Where's Our Black Myth: Wukong PS5 Review?

TruestoryYep

@Colour Where are you seeing that? We'll see with player reviews anyway. I've only heard of a few bugs mentioned in the PC version. I doubt it'll be as bad as Cyberpunk either technically or gameplay wise.

Truth is, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are probably already outdated for many Unreal Engine 5 titles which is why they can only use 4k at 30fps.

Sad that as next gen truly starts, it seems consoles will now struggle. Glad I went back to PC gaming.

Re: Random: Divisive Dark Souls 2 Is Seeing a Resurgence and Some Revisionist History

TruestoryYep

@KundaliniRising333 Is it really herd mentality? A lot of flaws can be pointed out with the game such as the weird hitboxes on the player, the terrible level design, the odd level transitions (which some people tried to defend with a lore explanation of "time is convoluted"), recycled bosses and some downright terrible animations and models on enemies like with the Falconers, Lion humanoid enemies or miners for example. Then of course there's the extreme graphical downgrade the game had along with the extreme washed out lighting that just made the game look ugly.

I think there's more herd mentality with people who defend everything about From Software's games and argue that they're perfect.

It reminds me of how Bethesda games used to be considered. The fans would never accept any flaws with the games.

Re: Ubisoft Suggests More Development Time Required for Future Assassin's Creed Games

TruestoryYep

@chucksneed

It's not disingenuous. Yasuke was presented as a Samurai in both Nioh 1&2 and nobody complained.

So the guy you're replying to is right. It's just outrage drama. All these games are fiction anyway. Stop with this nonsense that Assassin's Creed is historical. We weren't made by aliens, there aren't any alien artefacts here on Earth and there's no Templar Illuminati controlling the governments from the shadows either. The games are fiction.

As for culture, so it's ok when the Japanese make games based on foreign cultures and change things, go by rumors or fictionalise things but it's bad when a Western dev does it?

Then your next outrage should be directed towards all those JRPGs which grossly misrepresent Christian culture and symbolism.

That's the other thing, nobody complained when Assassin's Creed was doing all that until now with the Japanese setting. Before that, I seem to recall all the other games saying historical people like Jesus and Alexander the Great weren't even human, they were aliens or at least influenced by alien technology.

Again, nobody complained.

So if you're really concerned about historical accuracy...you missed the boat by 17 years...

Re: PS5's Lack of Tentpole Exclusives Isn't Hurting Engagement, Says Sony

TruestoryYep

Capitalism is a success? Ok. Sony being successful doesn't mean their console is good. Now they've admitted to a lack of exclusives so people can stop pretending otherwise.

The console is a success for the company not the consumer. You're playing the same games you could play on PC and 99% of them on Xbox (which also has the same problem as the PS5 in lack of exclusives).

These consoles aren't a creative success though, that's the issue.

Re: PlayStation's Domination of Europe Set to Continue with Renewed Champions League Sponsor

TruestoryYep

@Mikey856 That actually means Nintendo is still the market leader since lifetime sales of all Nintendo consoles and handhelds is at 863.07 million hardware units... which is a lot more than 500 million units of consoles and handhelds sold by Sony.

Honestly why expect otherwise? Nintendo was making hardware 10 years before Sony and continues to do well, with the Switch outselling its eighth gen competition including the PS4. While the PS4 took 7 years to reach 114 sales, Switch surpassed that in 5 years.

Really this is all meaningless anyway. Both companies are clearly successful in the end with their hardware sales unlike Microsoft with Xbox.

Re: Phantom Blade Zero Dev Denies 'Nobody Needs Xbox' Quote as Outrage Over PS5 Exclusivity Brews

TruestoryYep

@Jamesblob

The PS3 console, that like the PS5 today had no games for a long time? The PS4 and PS5 today doesn't even have backwards compatibility with PS1/2/3 titles.

The feature of free online multiplayer is gone too. Your post has only reminder me of how far Sony has fallen too especially with the PS5.

PS5 has very few actually next gen exclusive games too. How's it different to the Xbox right now?

This "next gen" generation so far has only been a success for cross platform titles that are on PC too.

Re: Here's Your First Look at the Like a Dragon: Yakuza Television Show

TruestoryYep

Looks good from the teaser but it's Prime. Both the Halo series and the LOTR series are from Prime and they're considered by most to be bad so I am wondering if this will follow suit.

Also the Yakuza fanbase has become absolutely unhinged and toxic in recent years. I imagine if it follows Yakuza mainly just by the main story, there's going to be people crying because their favourite substory isn't included, Kiryu didn't faceplant some woman's panties (optional player choice in Kiwami 2), Kiryu didn't spend a week in Carabet clubs hooking up with hostesses (I can see it now: "where is Rei?!"), Kiryu didn't get sexually assaulted by an old woman, Majima didn't do the funny meme thing or the show didn't confirm their gay ship fanfiction of two straight characters etc etc.

Either way, I don't think I'll enjoy the reactions to the show whether it's good or bad because these people will end up upset regardless I think.

Re: Not Much Is Known About PS5's Loulan Yet, But We Bet It'll Be a Soulslike

TruestoryYep

@NateTheBad It's because people are getting bored of Dark Souls clones that rip off the same exact combat.

I have no problem with the genre but developers should try to create their own actual combat system instead of copying Dark Souls to the letter. The only exception I've played has been The Surge series.

Nioh too technically but then I wouldn't consider that a Soulslike because it plays much more like an actual action game with combos but if people want to define it as one because of the death mechanic, it really stands on its own two feet simply because its combat is truly unique. So unique with its stance system that it inspired other games like Ghost of Tsushima.

All these other games though are just Dark Souls clones right down to having the exact same controls. Even attempting to copy the aesthetics, themes, writing and dialogue of the Souls games. At that point, you might as well just go play Dark Souls rather than an uninspiring rip off.

Re: Poll: Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

TruestoryYep

@PuppetMaster You're right.

Even Black myth is being called a Soulslike even when it looks like the gameplay is completely different. For starters it has combos, then transformations like an action game but because there's a stamina bar (which seems to function more similarly to Monster Hunter) and big bosses, there's people calling it a Soulslike.

That's the thing. Souls didn't even invent those mechanics or even learning boss attack patterns. Monster Hunter had that from the very beginning and so did Castlevania games with the player having to learn boss attack patterns. Ninja Gaiden 3 too including the unblockable but counterable red attacks that everything thinks Sekiro did first but NG3 actually did.

The worst one though is seeing user tags on Steam calling the latest God of War a Soulslike.

I swear, some Soulslike fans haven't played much games. I picture them as some Bethesda fans where their whole library is Call of Duty, FIFA, Fortnite then maybe Skyrim or Fallout, so when they come across another open world game, they say "it is like Skyrim" because they don't realise there's other open world RPGs. I think that's how some Soulslike fans are. Some of them have only played CoD, FIFA and Fortnite next to Elden Ring, so when they finally try another action game, they call it a Soulslike because that's been their only exposure to the action genre.

Re: Poll: Are You Sick of Soulslike Games?

TruestoryYep

@YoureTooSlowBro

Likewise. I'm burnt out especially since most are clones of Dark Souls.

Black myth, I'm not sure that's even a Soulslike. It looks different and plays much different like a traditional action RPG so I'm looking forward to that.

All the other actual Soulslike games coming out look and play exactly like Dark Souls though. I fail to understand why some people can still enjoy them. If I want Dark Souls, I'll go play Dark Souls.

Re: German Dev Piranha Bytes Latest Studio to Close Under Embracer

TruestoryYep

@AverageGamer Agreed. Embracer is a terrible company that should never have been given the chance to own all these companies and IPs but Piranha Bytes closing is not a big deal as their games were bad.

I'm suprised it actually managed to survive this long in the first place given the poor quality of their games.

Re: Talking Point: What's Your PS5 Game of the Year for 2024 So Far?

TruestoryYep

@Enuo

Same, Dragon's Dogma 2 was a massive disappointment.

Shadow of the Erdtree, I have no intention of playing it as I'm burnt out on From Software's Souls formula. Unless it's done something completely new, I don't see why it would deserve GOTY. I don't think the main game even deserved that.

There's still plenty of games coming out this year too like Black Myth Wukong and Stalker 2. Either one of those will probably take GOTY at the awards.

Then again, who cares what award ceremonies say? People's GOTYs can be whatever they want them to be I guess.

Re: Days Gone Team Apologises for 'False Hope' of PS5 Sequel After Misleading Headlines, Comments

TruestoryYep

@GymratAmarillo Your criticism is wrong. If it was about sales, plenty of games would reach 9 million sales in 5 years. Yet they don't. It seems that once again, critics were wrong about the game considering most people seem to say the game was good and word of mouth ends up being good marketing.

And let's be fair, very few Sony games are as amazing as you make you out. Most are decent cinematic story experiences but that's it.

Re: FromSoftware Open to Transmedia Adaptation of Elden Ring

TruestoryYep

I've got to be honest, the writing in From Software games has never been that great. The worldbuilding is interesting but the characters are relatively cliche, even quite one dimensional. They all have singular goals that, most of the time, ends up with them dead or depressed. This isn't mentioning their dialogue, often ending with the same depressed or mechanical laughter.

And most of the characters just seem to be the same archetypes from prior games, often with their story being a mere retelling. Take Alexander the Jar, who is clearly just Siegmeyer from Dark Souls 1.

Re: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (PS5) - Familiar FromSoftware Brilliance

TruestoryYep

@NightshadeNL

It makes sense. They were perhaps expecting new mechanics or updates to existing ones. Maybe an update to the Ash of War system to have switchable skills or new weapon categories with completely new movesets for example.

If what's avaliable are weapons still using movesets from Dark Souls 1 like the base game of Elden Ring...yeah I can understand why some people would find that lacking. It's the reason I find Elden Ring overall quite lacking despite enjoying it. After several games of the same combat and same animations, it's time From Software does something different because they're beginning to remind me a bit of Bethesda where eventually we'll all be saying whatever new game From Software does is "just Dark Souls but in [insert setting here]".

Elden Ring is already that, Dark Souls but in an open world setting complete with the same combat, lore, quest design and exact same writing. Even the overall plot still is technically Dark vs Light with an undead curse.

Maybe that's amazing to new players but it's been four games of this and even the majority of the characters in Elden Ring are just retellings of Dark Souls characters. I imagine even the new characters in the DLC.

Re: Big Elden Ring Update Adds New Features and Adjusts Balance Ahead of DLC's Release

TruestoryYep

I tried doing a new playthrough recently and just got bored. Three playthroughs was enough for me. I'm still not a fan of the open world of Elden Ring and it doesn't help that the world progression is pretty much just one path forward i.e going from Limgrave, to Liurnia to the Atlas Plateu. The only exception being Caelid.

I feel the open world would have benefited from being truly interconnected, it would help with replayability.

With any Dark Souls, I replayed each up to 10 times, although the third one suffered from the same type of linearity progression as Elden Ring does, forcing you into going one direction.

Re: Hidetaka Miyazaki 'Knows for a Fact' FromSoftware Devs Want a Bloodborne PC Port

TruestoryYep

@GymratAmarillo You're right and looking at Ghost of Tsushima on Steam, according to SteamDB, it's sold somewhere 552.8 k to 990.5 k.

Granted that's only been in a month and I expect it to reach maybe 1.5 mil to 2 this year but it was the same story behind that, with people online acting like it would sell as much as it did on PlayStation at 10 million. If the hype was real, Ghost would already be at 2 million. Helldivers 2 sold approximately 4 million in a month on Steam. You can look here:

https://web.archive.org/web/20240313222632/https://steamdb.info/app/553850/charts/

So yeah, it's about hype.

Bloodborne is an even older game. It's not going to sell as well as some people think. It's mainly the people who have already brought and played it on PS4 asking for a remaster/remake. A strong but vocal minority.

The success of Elden Ring doesn't guarantee anything either, sales of the Demon's Souls Remake didn't shoot up on PS5 after Elden Ring. Last time we heard of it, it's only sold 2 million copies.

Re: Video Game Leaking Culture Has Hit an Embarrassing New Low

TruestoryYep

Reminds me of the pirate "community" where there are two Russian men pretending to be girls.

As for the video game leaker "community" well just a visit to the gamingleaksandrumors subreddit shows you there's a load of pointless drama. I'm not suprised to learn that this guy is actually a guy and not a "cute Japanese girl" lmao.

Re: Bloodborne Inspired Kart Racing Game Is Free Now on Steam

TruestoryYep

@Korgon No he's right about it being overrated and it has flaws a lot of people overlook including the recycled Chalice Dungeons and dumb enemy AI.

FromSoft fans are the new Bethesda fans, trying to convince everyone their games are flawless. Bloodborne in particular has a vocal fanbase that act as if the game is bigger than God of War or the Last of Us, yet it didn't even come close to the sales of those games.

Re: Rise of the Ronin Update Coming This Week, Adds Missions and Features

TruestoryYep

@Uromastryx Yeah and they keep trying to roast it in every article.

OK, PushSquare, we get it, your one reviewer believes it's an "inferior version of everything it's inspired by" which goes against the consensus where all player reviews are positive and the game has had a far higher player retention rate than Dragon's Dogma 2.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Reveal Trailer Is Already the Most Disliked in Series History

TruestoryYep

@GagaOooLaLa

Was it pandering when William Adams, a white man, was the protagonist of Nioh 1? It seems it's only pandering to some people when it's a black person. This isn't pandering. The other protagonist is Japanese.

Look I get it, I hate "woke" identity politics too. But this isn't that. Yasuke was a historical person, an actual black person in Japan at the time. They haven't just put him there for no reason, just like William Adams wasn't the protagonist of Nioh 1 for no reason.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Reveal Trailer Is Already the Most Disliked in Series History

TruestoryYep

@homelesscretin This. Nioh 1, like you said, forced you play as a white man who was a real Samurai during that period. Nobody cared, so it's clear the backlash to this is because it's a black man this time, even though he too was historical (he's even in Nioh).

I was hoping the dislikes would be simply because it's Ubisoft and Ubisoft have not put out a good game since forever but no, the dislikes are from racist idiots who are triggered by a black man being ONE of the TWO protagonists you can select. The other one being Japanese.
