As if everything wasn't bad enough ...As someone who hasn't spent a dime on Sony stuff for the past two months, I find it absolutely hilarious.
My deepest condolences to the fans and those affected, though. Y'all deserve SO much better than all this. Sony has jumped the cliff and is currently diving head first straight down.
I'll just call these games (and the PS5 price hike) the 'Sony tax' from now on. Gotta make back all that money they spent on acquisitions and exclusivity contracts somehow ...Better push it onto their consumers.
Oh, it's been splashing its cash, alright ...and pushing all the losses onto its gullible fans and consumers, forcing them to prop up their stocks and spending with a useless remake, price increases and sneaking in new money making schemes across the board, wherever they can get away with it. Genius, Sony. Genius.
Man things are turning toxic ...Not as bad as NintendoLife, but I'm getting more and more tired by the day from all this evangelic cult worship, anger, sadness and desperation. Might consider leaving for good pretty soon and just play retro games instead.
Whatever happened to those simpler times back before the pandemics and financial crises and global catastrophes where we just talked about fun new games and dunked on EA and loot boxes together? I miss those times ...
(Sorry for being a mood, a lot of people and articles on here are still very cool and chill, just my opinion on the general atmosphere lately.)
Why would anyone defend this? I mean, sure, it seems to be way more chill and down to earth with Sony compared to the big N, but ...still. I absolutely hate being so negative all the time, but gaming as a hobby should be about standing up against this stuff, not joining the cult of billion- dollar corporation worship. I'd just imagine the absolute toxic nuclear fallout that would occur if Nintendo did something like this. Now that fandom is on a whole other level.
All I have to say is thank goodness I managed to pick up a PS5 for retail price in June. My country's insane sales taxes will surely make it the price of an entire month's worth of rent with this kind of hike. Also, Sony's PR is officially worse than Blizzard now in my eyes ...Quite the achievement. What happened?
I don't really have too many problems with pricing (except the premium for buying all these AAA half- finished gambling sims with microtransactions and DLC, they should be free to play at best) ...The biggest problem I have is the lack of any refund policies and permanently removing or refunding shovelware digital purchases or items from your library. Steam is excellent in that regard.
Shame but expected. They should take their time to deliver an absolute masterpiece, and I'll be there on launch day regardless. It's the only game I've been genuinely hyped for this year, and it still is in 2023. The only huge letdown is the sudden empty void for me this year, but I'll easily fill that with retro goodness.
Why not invest in improving your own service instead, Sony. Game Pass is absolutely fantastic value and while I don't subscribe to it myself (Don't play enough games for that), it'd be my first choice by far. PS Plus is just a confusing, overpriced mess with the most pathetic retro library (and just the worst respect for retro games overall) I've ever seen in my very personal opinion. Adapt and innovate, don't bribe and procrastinate.
Don't get me wrong, I love Sony, I play the PS5 and use it for all the truly next gen stuff, but they're just getting too comfortable on top, which will make anyone do dumb things (Nintendo). I also know Microsoft has unlimited money, but that's not an excuse. So did Sony in the 90's and early 2000's, but that didn't stop some absolute banger innovations to be made by others.
Please, please don't turn into overzealous Nintendo fans, my dear, dear fellow humans. We all love video games and are united by that hobby ...but let's not forget they're really just a bunch of overpriced, one- purpose computer software at the end of the day, not a holy religion.
Of course not. It's NFT and profit- driven. Games are not meant to be fun and atmospheric, they're meant to earn us as much money as possible. It's a Ubisoft original.
How dare you! I'd love nothing more than to spend an entire month's worth of rent and bills on a giant lump of exquisitely shaped plastic in this stable, healthy economy.
No idea what you're talking about. I thought it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end, with absolutely breathtaking art direction and truly fascinating lore. The world, its history and its characters were more captivating than almost any other game I've ever played. Depressing and somber, yet magical, all the way through. Another true example of why video games can be pieces of art, among very few others (Journey having a similar feel). And I actually bought the thing, I didn't subscribe to get it.
The only real problem I had with it were a few bugs and some confusing areas. I did get lost a fair few times looking for those darn collectibles. Overall, though, I loved it. It's definitely not for everyone, but that's what art is. It shouldn't be. I like Blade Runner, that's a piece of art, a lot of people hate it. To make art, you make it for yourself (or in this case, the team made it following their vision), and that creates art. If you make it for everyone, you're making a product. I'd say that's your Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, etc.
@themightyant Very well put. Cash grab for me is closer to that last point. I don't see it as harshly, instead as a simple word describing an increasing problem in the industry, with companies just looking to make quick profits instead of taking as many risks as in the past.
Sony's latest cash grab went gold! Hooray! Let's all get excited and hope and pray for more remakes and remasters in the future! No one needs new games, new experiences, when you can just sell the same ones over and over with fancier graphics!
...Stop. Not just this game, but like, half of everything coming out now. These corporations make gazillions of dollars but are clearly getting more and more creatively bankrupt by the day, just like all of Hollywood.
Of course, all my opinion. Do what you want. It's your money. It's just so ...sad, man.
Come on, man ...Just uncap the frame rate. No need for anything else.
Oh, wait ...I guess you can't charge people full price again for a game they already own if you do that. It would actually be consumer friendly! The horror!
For movies, I always go physical, so not a big deal for me personally. Blu- rays and 4K not only let you actually own the thing, but they also usually have way better picture and sound quality. Games are a bit different because most of them rely on servers and need to be installed anyway, with the disc being not much more than a 'license', so I alternate on that front depending on price.
It's what ruins Hollywood now, too. People just want the nostalgia rush from rehashed, soulless garbage, instead of actual new actual art that evolves the medium.
I think backwards compatibility should be the standard instead of all these cheap, overpriced remasters everywhere. Xbox has done a fantastic job on that front, with both resolution and frame rate boosts and very neat auto HDR. Sure, it requires some effort, but it beats remasters every time and is a massive win for both consumers and for game preservation. I won't sugar coat it, I hate remasters. Selling games again and again instead of offering actual cross generational features while shutting down and retiring the old classic systems and games to save a few cents on server costs ...it's so outdated, greedy and plain stupid in my opinion. Sony and Nintendo need to step up.
Absolutely fantastic game. Stunning graphics, insane sound design, great writing and the best use of the PS5's SSD I've seen. Insomniac did a masterful job optimising it too, with the brilliant 40 fps mode a true standout. The game almost justified my entire recent PS5 purchase by itself and made me a big fan of the series ...something the PS4 game did not. I just felt the love and passion in this game, and it didn't feel rushed, had actual depth and amazing polish. The PS4 entry, meanwhile, felt tragically rushed, devoid of charm, forced and sloppy.
@dschons Never played them. Had to check them out after absolutely loving my time with Rift Apart. Quest for Booty is not the best experience, I'd say, mostly because it just feels like a rushed standalone DLC pack (which I guess it kind of was).
