You must lay in your bed the way you make it. Maybe ask Japan how they feel and what actual history looks like.
It's just like when they complained about Elden Ring not having ugly UI and guides spewed all over the screen, or when Bethesda continues hailing Starfield as the second coming of Christ. Obviously all hate or threats are just awful and immature and never okay, but plenty of developers out there definitely need a healthy dose of humble pills to get off their absurdly high horses once in a while. We can be civil and intelligent about our critiques, but so should you.
Just even more proof the unsustainable need for infinite growth and stockholder trade in our economic system makes everything worse, more exploitative and more expensive each passing year. Just making profit, even a ton of it, and just cruise on that is not enough anymore ...you need to make more and more and more each fiscal year, to please more and more investors getting so filthy rich money has basically no meaning anymore while everyone else are squeezed even further. It's all bonkers how the modern world works when you really think about it.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. Also, sorry Sony, but I'll continue avoiding most live services like the plagues they are and just keep on buying your actual good one time purchase single player bangers alongside Nintendo's first party stuff, thanks. Don't need anything else lol
$700 for a small upgrade to a 4 year old console, with AI upscaling, enhanced ports and no disc drive. Also right after DualSense price hike.
Love it. This gave me a good laugh. Isn't modern Sony just the best? Gotta love what benefits a lack of competition brings to the industry!
Seriously though, **** off. PS5 launch model remains the last hardware I'll buy from them. Economy is awful and late stage capitalism with its need of constant unsustainable shareholder growth is starting to corrupt everything now, not just games. Gonna save up for Switch 2 and maybe move to PC after this generation dies out for the 'cutting edge' or whatever, like most others I've talked to.
@Atreus97 I've felt this exact same way for years now and literally haven't touched a modern video game for over half a year ...until the remake of my favourite Paper Mario came out last week, which literally reminded me why I liked playing games in the first place. I guess retro simplicity like that is the only refuge from now on lol
...Well, for me at least. TTYD is a banger, though.
@TheStormGL Exactly what I mean. Not just the price and economy, it just hasn't felt like anything has really pushed the PS5 yet. Hoping GTA 6 will push it to the limit, like 5 did way back on PS3.
I hate these mid gen refreshes. In this economy especially. It feels slimy, especially with the severe lack of exclusive, hardware pushing games that still has not given the base model enough value in my opinion. Stuck with PS3 which I still love, stuck with PS4 which was wonderful, but PS5 has been very disappointing. I refuse to buy this and will most likely jump ship completely to just Nintendo and PC next generation. Nintendo makes excellent, industry pushing games within reasonable time and budgets, and PC gets almost all other games at this point anyway, with none of the Sony slime.
Then again, I'm fine with lower specs so long as the games are there. If you've got the money, like your PS5 and want the best, by all means go ahead. It's just my own opinion on modern Sony.
I'm interested in the Indiana Jones game. Was gonna get it on my Flight Sim box (which is what I call my Series S lol) but if it comes to PS5 I'd definitely get it on there instead for the 4K.
It won't be 'the death of Xbox consoles' either, since some games will probably remain exclusive and their unmatched backwards compatibility is still a massive selling point for me. Playing the likes of Sonic Unleashed, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Oblivion with no performance issues or even at 60 frames per second is a dream.
At this point, it feels like the PS4 will still get ports by the time PS6 is out. I'd usually be fine with it, but can't help but worry it is still holding some games back from their true potential when developers have to cram them onto a terrible old Jaguar CPU and slow as molasses hard disk.
This one still looks okay BTW. On my watchlist for sure.
Thing is, GTA has always been a parody of the US. Problem now is the US has slowly turned into that very parody, so you can't really make fun of it anymore when it's just reality. This whole mess is just another example of that.
No offense to a great game or Insomniac as a studio, but no way this was number one this year. Alan Wake II and Baldur's Gate III actually pushed some boundaries at the very least.
It's a disappointment to be sure, but it was sadly expected considering Starfield won over at Pure Xbox. Frickin' Starfield. Spider-Man 2 at least has a few arguments for the top spot ...lol
This is why I tend to stick to single player and local multiplayer games. They don't need servers to function. I'll still be able to play them years from now and my money was never wasted on something with an expiration date.
Terrible for the environment too with all those disc copies now becoming e- waste. Live services should stick to a free to play model.
I did predict Monster Hunter would definitely show up ...Excited to be right about that! I did not expect that 2025 release window, though ...Hoped for something by March or next year in general.
2025, though ...That was further away than I hoped. Ah, well. I've waited 10 years, what's another 2 (or 3 pending a delay) at this point? lol
In either case, it's going to be amazing. I have faith in the talent and creativity of the studio, even without some of the big names who left. Even this tiny peek still looks better than any other game I've ever seen.
I certainly hope not ...It probably won't, though. The next gen install base is getting large enough and they definitely want to stay far away from hardware that ancient for their biggest release ever, if not just to avoid negative press but also the visuals and technology not getting held back at all. They've spent a lot on this and want it to look the part. It'll make billions regardless.
I absolutely despise AI. As a writer, it really threatens everything I work on and stand for, pouring so much time and effort into something coming directly from the heart and soul. That's true art, at least to me. These things are endlessly fed and trained on real human art and voices without the permission of artists and just cram out things that most people barely know the difference at a glance in no time at all. It's heartbreaking and so many jobs, passions and dreams will die and get burned to the ground because of it. Huge, sweeping regulations need to happen ASAP.
That's my view, at least. I find it alarming. At least let artists choose to ban their works from being used to expand the machine brain's 'creativity'.
Mario Wonder has to be one of the best games I've ever played, having literally reminded me why I enjoy video games in the first place. I think it's generation- defining, honestly, which I never expected out of a 2D Mario game since at least 1995, when I wasn't even alive yet. Congrats to Spidey and Insomniac, but Wonder is the winner here for me.
Feel this exact thing about Mario Wonder. It's short, relatively speaking, but of such amazing quality. The exact opposite of, say, Starfield or Ubisoft's open worlds, which are all quantity in sacrifice of quality (in my opinion). I prefer quality every time, as long as the game is replayable, which quality usually creates by itself. I never want to play through Starfield again from the beginning, for example, alongside most of the hundred- hour monsters and live services that come out. Even Zelda is too big to replay like that for me. Mario Wonder and others (like the excellent Rift Apart from Insomniac themselves) are the complete opposite philosophy ...A concentrated 10 to 20 hour game you can easily replay again and again, finished and polished on release. I miss that.
Not in this economy. Even if it was a Pro, I still wouldn't get it in a million years. I've firmly decided to only get next generation upgrades no matter how long that takes. No mid gen refreshes and especially no slim models ...and it's doubtful Sony will even be on my radar if they continue porting all my reasons to get their hardware to PC and further their focus on remakes and 'duh live service'. It's just wasteful to me now. My old model I bought before inflation got wild will last at least half a decade longer. Saving all my spare change for the Switch 2 next year instead.
For me, it's almost a perfect 10. It was one of my favourite video game experiences of all time back on Switch. Highly recommend it to everyone. It's as close to perfect a game can get to everything it sets out to achieve, in my opinion. The only negative I have might be the price being just a bit steep.
Excellent, fair and unbiased review written very well. While I'm not a big fan of Spidey, I do enjoy game reviews that are this good. Wish all of them were at this standard of quality. Thanks for the great read.
About what I expected. Only one AAA 2D platformer was ever gonna come out on top ...and it was never gonna be Sonic when you've got Mario turning into an elephant.
Starfield has completely taken over my life right now ...Never gotten this into a Bethesda game for longer than an hour or two, so something hooked me this time. Sure, if you go in trying to take it seriously it becomes a cursed mannequin nightmare and a slog real fast, but if you just embrace its charming awfulness and mess around with the fossil of an engine they got, just exploring, grinding, building outposts and doing whatever you want, it's pretty sweet. A lot of it even looks quite nice, if you look past the 'humans' they got. Will probably check these out because of it lol
