@TheDudeElDuderino maybe so, and I agree with all you say. I personally don't get into games 'cuz of trophies. The only platinum trophies I've got are all on PS4 games and it's not a lot. Mainly 'cuz I only "trophy hunt" in games that I really really liked. But still, calling people pathetic for wanting trophies just doesn't look good.
@Vladspartan I don't wanna start an argument here, but what in the hell does a "real player" even mean?
Different people enjoy different aspects of different video games. That's just plain and simple, nothing pathetic about anyone wanting to play for trophies. As long as they're enjoying the game, it doesn't matter why they play it.
The visuals seem pretty okay. But idk... the gameplay looks kinda clunky. This is probably one of those games that you gotta play and see if it's your thing. In a game like this... all I ever need is great gunplay.
Saw the trailer a couple hours ago, it was neat. Obviously from an older built and with damned low quality, but it's a Fromsoftware game. Simply cannot wait for this.
@Th3solution As much as I'd like Factions II (or whatever its name is gonna be) to be a free addition to Part II, I highly doubt it'll ever happen. And I wouldn't compare it to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Legends was a small (however very enjoyable) addition that receives no further updates/content. I'd hate for Factions to be as small as Legends. But I do expect it to be bundled with the main game. Especially given the size of Part II itself and the fact that there are repeating assets in the game (characters, guns, locations, etc.)
In the end, I can't wait for Factions II. Really curious to see how it turns out.
@1_W1NG3D_4NG3L I'm not sure if it is intentional or not, but it seems to me Naughty Dog (Neil Druckmann mostly) has been touching on pressing and controversial matters. (Nadine Ross, the entirety of The Last of Us Part II, etc. etc.) Feels to me, whatever they do... someone's gonna get mad anyway. lol.
@Jimmer-jammer Nothing really suggests it is related to Naughty Dog. It's all speculations on my part, being a Hideo Kojima fan you can never be sure where to look for clues if there are any at all. In the end, her reading material might be out of pure self-interest. (Which, as an aspiring writer I find hard to believe, but still)
Among all these speculations as what their next game will be (if it is going to be a new IP), I'd like to add the possibility of them making a WW2 game. Halley Gross (lead narrative designer and co-writer of Part II) has been posting stacks of books on Instagram. Among them, there's a ton of WW2 research material, and specifically on the topic of women during the war. I may be reading too much into it, but I wouldn't mind them making an urban fantasy set during the second world war.
@Jacko11 I remember Neil Druckmann once addressed the "The Last of Us: American Daughter" poster that we found in Uncharted 4. If I remember right, he said they're still not sure what that'll be. I'm really hoping at least that one's a comic book. And given that there is a "The Last of Us: American Dream" comic, it's not that far fetched. Fingers crossed, anyway.
@Jacko11 honestly, I wanna see Naughty Dog put out Savage Starlight comics!
I'm so excited to see what next Naughty Dog is working on. For now, I'm holding my breath for Factions Part II, which they said they'll make. And whatever they make for PS5... I'm already on board. Long time fan of Naughty Dog, they've never disappointed me.
Ooof, big news! I adore Kena and if the game is really what they showed it's gonna be one beautiful journey. Same goes for Little Devil Inside, except for gameplay mechanics. Seems crazy, funny, and sort of intense at times. I'm on board and so glad these two are coming to PS4 too!
Oh, Happy New Year everyone. Hoping for yet another amazing year both gaming and otherwise. 2020 can go and f itself. My head canon for this year's title is "A New Hope".
Man, would I not love Elden Ring in 2021! I'd also like the prediction about God of War Ragnarok to be true. To hell with riding one, even, I just wanna see Santa Monica's imagination of Fenrir. Ragnarok is coming...
The Last of Us Part II making it up to these lists warms my heart. It deeply resonated with me and still goes on to do so. I don't think if I'll ever get tired of it, or the original game for that matter.
The rest of this list is also amazing. Haven't had the chance to play Astroy's Playroom or Demon's Souls (cuz duh!) but I've heard so many good things about them that I'm sure they belong where they are. (Specially Astro's Playroom, cuz I'm a Fromsoftware fan anyway, don't need to hear good things about Demon's Souls, even though the remakes isn't by them...)
Goddamn, I agree with 100% of this article. I bought R6 at launch. I had my cousin, his friend and another friend of mine convinced to buy it and we all played together from day 1. It was my first multiplayer experience on PS4, as I was catching up on the single-player backlog I had back then.
It was a wonderful experience, I won't lie. The game was really really good, despite all its downgrades and whatnot. But honestly, after 2-3 years of dealing with toxic players and cheaters, I gave up. I've been tempted by my very cousin and friends to go back and install it. They still play the game, but I just couldn't get along.
It's a shame because Ubisoft has something unique and special here and instead of addressing real issues, they add Sam Fisher to the game. Although that seems to be a new Ubisoft trend, gotta look out for Sam showing up in AC sometimes.
Great article, here's hoping this raises a bit of awareness, gets some traction and we see Ubisoft addressing these issues.
Hmm, that's weird. I'm on PS4 and my crashing issues are fixed after 1.04 patch. Honestly, the performance and bugs have also become better. Will get 1.05, hopefully it'll make things better.
Congrats to the winner, that shot is legendary. It's always great fun to be a part of this every year. So many great shots that aren't here, the quality is amazing, always.
It is true, I don't trust CDPR like I did before, but I wish them luck and want them to recover from this. They were one of my favorite studios and it's so heartbreaking to see them treat us this way.
And no, I don't mean the bugs. I mean the transparency of the issue up until 2-3 days after release. They should've communicated better and I understand that was bad for business. I want them to win my trust back, and I can't wait to see what's next for CDPR.
Besides that, much like some other fellows here who say they enjoy the game on base PS4, I do too. I'm not in any position to upgrade my console any time soon and I'd been waiting for this game for a long time. It is a bit frustrating seeing some bizarre things in the game here and there. But I am over 60 hours in and I'm having a blast.
@Jimmer-jammer I think Maximum Mike is pretty busy playing 2077 himself on a high-end PC with good performance.
Honestly, you're right. It's so easy to hop on the hate train. Almost as easy as it was jumping on the hype train, I suppose. And I see too many who lose sight of what the game actually offers. We all had crazy high expectations from the game. We should've seen this coming. I expected a lot more complexity in terms of character relations, side quest to main quest integrity, and how all that affects Night City. But I guess 4(?) years of development wasn't enough. It all goes back to the fact that they announced the game too early. The Witcher 3 still had a long way to release and they revealed their next game!
This situation is messed up. This is the kind of thing I'd expect to see in Night City, not outside of it. Feels so ironic for a game that is inherently (as far as I've experiences, no spoilers) anti-capitalist and against corporations to treat people this way. But as you said, once the bugs are all ironed out and the game is 'playable', I hope more of us can see what the game actually offers than what it didn't deliver.
My heart goes out to all y'all who, like myself, had so many expectations and it all fell apart, whether by the game's core shortcomings or bugs.
I hope for CDPR to recover from this, they were supposed to be role models for other studios. This isn't the way.
I do admit that the game lacks in some aspects but I can't stop myself from having a really good time, jamming to the radio tunes and ride around Night City. Could've been better but it's still a blast. One thing that stands above all so far for me is the characters and the story. Typical CDPR, amazing as always.
Well, that's a useful option for someone like me who enjoys the quiet (or usually plays with friends). Other than that, it's weird that Playstation is adding things like this and the ability to mute mic now of all times. These are things I wish we had since day 1 on PS4. But as they say, better late than never, I suppose.
@Jimmer-jammer exactly. It's an odd oversight that could happen to anyone. I'm not THAT surprised such a massive game has issues like this. After all, it's an ambitious game.
The people who are treating CDPR like gods and torturing others online on the other hand... absolutely disgusting. Such behaviors should 100% have consequences, and sadly it happens far too many times on the net and yet we see no improvements towards it.
Ghost of Tsushima is a masterpiece and I cannot wait for the potential sequel (or whatever next SuckerPunch is working on right now), but my personal GOTY was decided late in June.
I'm a little afraid to talk about The Last of Us Part II, seems like quite a bit of people get triggered when you say good things about it. But it's my game of the year anyway, closely followed by FF7Remake.
@clvr Well, first of all, thanks for writing all that, as a "writer" I appreciate the time you've put into explaining so thoroughly.
You're right that I disagree with a lot of your points. I'm not trying to defend the game, though. As you said, it's been months and the subject is way past these arguments about the game's value. But I do think the structure is unconventional, but not useless or as you said failing.
I was personally very much uncomfortable seeing Abby's part of the story, and unlike Ellie, I don't think if I have it in me to forgive her. But I understood Abby, I think the second half of Seattle really does well in showing you who she is besides being an adversary to Joel and Ellie. I don't think if it fits every story to be told this way, of course, but since that was the feeling they wanted to convey with Part II, I think they succeeded.
About the rest, I've no argument. After all, this is a work of fiction and I'm pretty sure if you find your most favorite movie/game/book and search for reviews you're bound to find negative ones for those just as well. It's all about perspective, I guess, and how we see the world. Would've been extremely boring if we all sat around and nodded in praise for everything out there.
On the note of YT videos and analysis, I've watched some negative ones and positives ones too. What I realized was that I disagreed with both of those as the ones that praised it villainized Joel and the ones that disagreed villainized Neil Druckmann! And in my mind, I just thought they were all missing the point so I stopped really digging in analysis for the game, even if the presenters have more knowledge in the field than I can ever have.
Again, thank you for elaborating, I can understand your point of view better now, even though I still disagree. You have a good one too, mate.
@Texan_Survivor Brother, do not bring in the things about Druckmann kicking Henning out. That's all Trump-talk, get your information sources sorted out.
Amy Henning is an amazing creator and I love her and her work so much. She's a gem. But, and here's the biggest but ever, Neil Druckmann told a much better story with HER characters than she could ever hope for. Uncharted 1,2,3 are all some of my favorite games, but 4 stands undefeated in terms of story and characters.
He also didn't ruin The Last of Us, he made it and continued making a better post-apocalyptic work of art. Give us and yourself a break with all that nonsense, dude.
@clvr I also wanted to stay out of this. But you do seem to flail around your knowledge of writing and narrative, friend. And I'm an aspiring writer who studies literature and as such am curious about this. I read your 'cons' about the story twice over and I honestly don't see any of that in Part II, if anything, I see the opposite of it. So, I'd really like you to elaborate on those points.
I can't wait to see this. With Druckmann and Mazin at the helm, I'm pretty confident in the delivery. I want this to make me fall in love with the franchise all over again.
What! this is so amazing. Well done IOI for acquiring this. Perfect people for making a Bond.
I hope they spend a significant amount of time deciding to choose Troy Baker as the next Bond. Kidding, of course, but seriously, I want the video game Bond to be just as iconic as the movies.
"And a lot more" sounds like an "etc" when the professor wants examples and you only know two.
It's funny that it doesn't end with CDPR and pretty much everyone uses it and once you tune in, there really isn't anything more than what they've mentioned.
I've been hyped too many times for this game and every time close to release they somehow find a way to push it back.
@TheFrenchiestFry Well, I really have nothing more to say, but the reason I didn't mention the titles you listed was because they're from at the very least 4 years ago! Yes, we can talk about Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn too. But those games are one in a long time. Ghost of Tsushima totally deserves a GOTY, but if The Last of Us Part II didn't create new standards for the industry (as you say) then so didn't Ghost of Tsushima. And with that, neither of them should become game of the year cuz they just mildly improved upon what already existed.
Also, I don't feel it's necessary for anybody to clearly come out and put a hundred indications after their comments that it's their opinion. What're we doing? Recording facts out here on Push Square threads? Of course, everything is everybody's opinion. I do take responsibility that my comment may have been vague in wording, but y'all totally misunderstood what I was saying. At least that's my opinion, I think or I guess.
@TheFrenchiestFry I said this before and I'll say it again.
That "we all know it" that y'all are tossing around didn't refer to the things you think it does. It follows a clear sentence in which I didn't even mention Part II's story!
And no, I don't need to stealthily convince anyone that Part II is a game. Go set a copy of it on fire, I don't care. I liked the game and that's all that matters. After all, I play video games for MY enjoyment and you do for yours. There are games we all like and dislike which is how it's always been. I don't even care what game wins the GOTY, I literally said I watch the show because of the trailers and not the awards. Why would I wanna even try and convince anyone that these are facts?
On another note, I disagree with Ghost of Tsushima being the boldest PS4 exclusive this year. I love Ghost of Tsushima and still occasionally pop in and play the game. But differences you mention with Sekiro and the depection of ancient Japan, that's just the setting. It has nothing to do with the game. The game is an open world and I think (here I go stating facts again!) the reason why a lot of people say Ghost of Tsushima did new things for the genre (or sub-genre) is the open world thirst and the low standards set by Ubisoft games, namely Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey. In a way that Ghost of Tsushima didn't even have much competition, all it had to do was be a decent open-world game. Which it is more than that, true. But it didn't really change the genre. It added to its quality but nothing groundbreaking. It's a solid (perhaps perfect) conventional open-world game. It didn't even try to subvert the expectations we have from an open-world game. Again, before y'all get the pitchforks, I loved Ghost of Tsushima, it's one of my favorite games of this generation.
@Constable_What Well, excuse me. But that "we all know it" was a part of a larger sentence that I feel like all of y'all who read it misunderstood. It was referring to things about the game that can be objectively evaluated (as there are standards in the industry). I don't want to drag on this conversation, because I've had enough of it on the net about The Last of Us Part II. But I'm not going to change my stance that you've probably misunderstood what I was saying. Either it wasn't in my power to articulate the thoughts correctly or your understanding of it is flawed.
The Last of Us Part II deserves to be GOTY. And I'm not saying that just cuz I'm a fan. Part II has done A LOT in terms of setting new boundaries for the industry. From level design to animation and gameplay. I don't need to get specific, we all know it. The hard work at Naughty Dog totally deserves that award. BUT and here's the but. I imagine a lot of people will be pissed off it ends up winning. So I'd rather that flame fades than the game wins this award. Ghost of Tsushima is more likely to win. But then again, we have AC Valhalla out just recently. Dunno how that one is yet but heard good stuff.
All in all, I'm there for the trailers. Here's hoping to see Elden Ring this year
@TheFrenchiestFry Dude that kinda hurts lol. I'm not the biggest fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, but hell I'm excited to read that too.
You're right though, which is why it hurts I guess? I just want a simple trailer from Elden Ring... a screenshot would do... I'm going hollow, I'm afraid lol.
@LTPenguin yes, you're correct about that. But that means they took one for the team (us?). We've had faith in them delivering all these years why stop now? They're risking, as you said, their reputation so they can deliver a better game at a later date. I think the only way we'll really know is for the game to be out and we play it. But CDPR is a master of their craft. All I'm saying is, we should trust that they know their jobs and will do it right.
what is actually going on with Cyberpunk 2077 these days? why is everyone so skeptical all of a sudden? I get that the game has been delayed too many times. I'm up to date with all the news and each delay has been a bummer for me too. But this is CDPR we're talking about. They will deliver. It'll take time but they will.
That's kinda ridiculous. Wasn't the game in development for 7+ years FOR this generation? How is it that it can't be run smoothly on platforms it was initially intended to be played on.

I'm a little afraid to talk about The Last of Us Part II, seems like quite a bit of people get triggered when you say good things about it. But it's my game of the year anyway, closely followed by FF7Remake.
Re: Neil Druckmann to Continue Writing and Directing at Naughty Dog as Co-President
@clvr All the same, man, be seeing ya.
Re: Neil Druckmann to Continue Writing and Directing at Naughty Dog as Co-President
Re: Neil Druckmann to Continue Writing and Directing at Naughty Dog as Co-President
Re: Neil Druckmann to Continue Writing and Directing at Naughty Dog as Co-President
Re: HBO Greenlights The Last of Us TV Show, Production to Begin Soon
I can't wait to see this. With Druckmann and Mazin at the helm, I'm pretty confident in the delivery. I want this to make me fall in love with the franchise all over again.
Re: Returnal Gets Brief New PS5 Gameplay in Housemarque Dev Diary
Super amazing! This is gonna be one of my instant picks when I get my PS5 one day lol.
Re: Hitman Dev IO Interactive Is Making a James Bond Game
What! this is so amazing. Well done IOI for acquiring this. Perfect people for making a Bond.
I hope they spend a significant amount of time deciding to choose Troy Baker as the next Bond. Kidding, of course, but seriously, I want the video game Bond to be just as iconic as the movies.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Dominates Game Awards 2020 Nominations
@Col_McCafferty Yes, I agree that both Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are amazing games. They're definitely on top of my list.
Re: The Last of Us 2 Dominates Game Awards 2020 Nominations
My personal GOTY. Hell, probably the game of the generation too, the competition's tough with God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Confirms Fifth Night City Wire Stream for Thursday
"And a lot more" sounds like an "etc" when the professor wants examples and you only know two.
It's funny that it doesn't end with CDPR and pretty much everyone uses it and once you tune in, there really isn't anything more than what they've mentioned.
I've been hyped too many times for this game and every time close to release they somehow find a way to push it back.
Re: The Game Awards 2020 Nominees Will Be Announced Next Week
@Constable_What Okay then I owe you an apology, sir. On behalf of myself, I'm sorry. Have a good day.
Re: The Game Awards 2020 Nominees Will Be Announced Next Week
Re: The Game Awards 2020 Nominees Will Be Announced Next Week
Again, before y'all get the pitchforks, I loved Ghost of Tsushima, it's one of my favorite games of this generation.
sorry if that was too long.
Edited for typos
Re: The Game Awards 2020 Nominees Will Be Announced Next Week
@Constable_What Well, excuse me. But that "we all know it" was a part of a larger sentence that I feel like all of y'all who read it misunderstood. It was referring to things about the game that can be objectively evaluated (as there are standards in the industry). I don't want to drag on this conversation, because I've had enough of it on the net about The Last of Us Part II. But I'm not going to change my stance that you've probably misunderstood what I was saying. Either it wasn't in my power to articulate the thoughts correctly or your understanding of it is flawed.
Re: The Game Awards 2020 Nominees Will Be Announced Next Week
The Last of Us Part II deserves to be GOTY. And I'm not saying that just cuz I'm a fan. Part II has done A LOT in terms of setting new boundaries for the industry. From level design to animation and gameplay. I don't need to get specific, we all know it. The hard work at Naughty Dog totally deserves that award.
BUT
and here's the but.
Here's hoping to see Elden Ring this year
Re: Elden Ring Is Still Alive as FromSoftware Mentions the Game on Social Media
OOOOH ELDEN RING!
Somewhere, deep in my heart I always felt its existence...
Re: Demon's Souls PS5 Has a Photo Mode, And a PS3 Filter
@TheFrenchiestFry Dude that kinda hurts lol. I'm not the biggest fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, but hell I'm excited to read that too.
You're right though, which is why it hurts I guess? I just want a simple trailer from Elden Ring... a screenshot would do... I'm going hollow, I'm afraid lol.
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev 'Not Comfortable, but Confident' in December Release Date
Re: Demon's Souls PS5 Has a Photo Mode, And a PS3 Filter
oh boy, Demon's Souls is totally filling the empty hole left in my heart from the silence of Elden Ring.
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev 'Not Comfortable, but Confident' in December Release Date
what is actually going on with Cyberpunk 2077 these days? why is everyone so skeptical all of a sudden?
I get that the game has been delayed too many times. I'm up to date with all the news and each delay has been a bummer for me too. But this is CDPR we're talking about. They will deliver. It'll take time but they will.
Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Delay Is Due to Current-Gen Consoles After All
That's kinda ridiculous. Wasn't the game in development for 7+ years FOR this generation? How is it that it can't be run smoothly on platforms it was initially intended to be played on.
