@pharos_haven I get what you mean, but for me the only thing about the story that sucks is how little input we have on it. (Which isn't always bad, it's just that we were promised otherwise and it lowers the role-playing side of things). But yeah, I know what you feel. It's pretty much the only open world cyberpunk game and I'm really sad that it falls short on the open world part. Like you, I got my fingers crossed for Phantom Liberty. I hear good stuff but how can we trust them again?

Guess it's just a waiting game now. Either the DLC or hope for the sequel to be what this should've been.

I mean, aside from the performance issues which were a lot and like... not eve subtle, and the bugs that were plenty and very game-breaking... It wasn't terrible. But it also wasn't what they promised.

I think most people don't understand the real issue with Cyberpunk 2077, now that the bugs are fixed and the performance is stable... it's a good game. And for someone like me who loves the genre, it's probably the only game that gives me that cyberpunk dystopian vibe. But it is by no means a ground breaking game. It has a masterpiece-level story and voice acting, the gunplay is enjoyable and that's about it.

They promised us the most complicated, the most detailed and alive RPG game yet, and what they delivered was a normal game. The notion of those promises takes the game from being great to good, because it doesn't match your expectations in any way other than Keanu Reeves and Cherami Leigh, who -by the way- carried the entire game on their backs.

It brings me immense joy to see Cyberpunk 2077 redeem itself. I enjoyed the game on launch, because I'm biased and I've been a long-time fan of the genre. I just can't help it, I'll enjoy anything cyberpunk. And 2077 being one of the most major titles in the genre, it hurt to see that it wasn't fulfilling its promises or its potential.

I really hope Phantom Liberty pushes it towards being the game it was supposed to be cuz we'll never fade away.

Re: The Last of Us HBO Exec Touches on Joel's Fate in Season 2

XOF

If Joel doesn't die then the story wouldn't be the same. There's no other person in the franchise whose death would impact Ellie this much.

I'm one of those people who had to pause the game, cry my eyes out and then return to the game when Joel died. I didn't want it either, but his death gave us one of the best stories I've ever experienced. So the showrunners better not deviate from the plot.

Re: Jack Black Calls for Red Dead Redemption Movie, Story 'Even Better Than The Last of Us'

XOF

I love RDR2 and I'm a huge western fan. I can't tell which story is better, as far as I'm concerned they're both masterpieces.

However, I really doubt RDR2's story can be adapted to the screen. Best it can do is a TV Show, so let's completely forget about live action movies. Aside from that, what makes Arthur such a compelling character isn't really the story of the game.

RDR2's story is really simple. An outlaw sees the fault in his way of living and seeks redemption. It's been done before, movies, books, you name it.

What makes Arthur and RDR2 stand out is the realism of the game and the sheer amount of time the player spends with Arthur. Riding through the country, camping in the hills, buying a new horse, interacting with the people, running into random encounters, robbing people and getting robbed, being ambushed by the Night Folk, attacked by a bear, etc. etc.

I'm not sure how any of that can be translated into a medium where the audience has no participation. The Last of Us works perfectly (aside from everything they had to change for it to fit the new medium, which is great), because it already had that cinematic value.

As a huge fan of TLOU I'd be lying if I said I was more impressed by the gameplay and the time I spent playing than the time when the game would cut into a cinematic. Whereas RDR2 was the opposite. The cinematics and the performances are top-notch and I love it, but I was a lot more impressed by the gameplay and how alive the world felt, which in turn reflected on how I experienced the story.

All that said, I would totally watch an adaptation, but only if it's a TV show. I've lost interest in movie adaptations, honestly. 2 hours is just not enough to adapt such a long story, might as well just write a new, original screenplay instead.

Re: Expect to Hear 'Much More' About The Last of Us Multiplayer Game Later This Year

XOF

@Korgon We're all speculating here, but I think it'll still have Team Deathmatch and such, even if the main game is going to be a "Battle Royale"-like experience.

I wouldn't mind something akin to Escape from Tarkov, which a lot of rumors point to. Sand box survival game against lots of players sounds fun. But even games like Apex Legends that are primarily Battle Royale have ended up adding Arenas and TDM modes.

Re: Hideo Kojima Teases a 'Brand New Game', More Information Next Year

XOF

@themightyant Obviously just speculating here, but based on Kojima's track record with MGS sequels, my bet is on "Death Stranding 2" not being the full title. They either haven't decided on it, or don't wish to reveal it, but the game probably has a subtitle.

"Death Stranding 2: Son of a Beach", for example or whatever.

Re: Death Stranding 2 Leveraging Next-Gen MetaHumans Tech for Photorealistic PS5 Visuals

XOF

@AdamNovice They do, but they also retain the core and reinvent the surface. Metal Gear Solid, despite all the changes it went through, never stopped being a Military Stealth game. Infiltration and stealth was always the core and it only kept on getting more detailed (MGSV:TPP is still the best stealth game I've played and 2023 is almost here!).

So, with all that in mind, I think the delivery aspect will remain, (I for one seriously hope it does because there's nothing like Death Stranding and I just simply want more) and it will get more detailed.

That said, I feel like the first game really lacked a day/night cycle as well as better, more challenging AI for human enemies such as MULEs. I hope running into MULEs or whatever equivalent of them we'll see in DS2 won't turn to be a fun adventure after a couple of times and remains a dangerous undertaking all the way through.

(Apologies for the block of text, I really love Kojima, MGS and Death Stranding lol)

Re: GTA 5's 1.64 Patch Notes Are Ginormous for PS5, PS4

XOF

Very disappointing that they do this much work on the Online, but don't touch single-player mode at all! Makes you think RockStar just hates single-player, even though they're known for making masterpiece single-player games.

Wish at least they would put out an update half as big as this for RDO... what a joke.

Re: Hideo Kojima's Teases Continue on the Eve of The Game Awards

XOF

I say it all the time, whatever Kojima's making I'm on board. But I seriously hope Death Stranding 2 is happening. Death Stranding is one of my all time favorites, a sequel would only be better. (It's Hideo Kojima, the sequels always surpass the original in many ways, and don't give me the "MGSV sucked" argument, that game was developed under special circumstances and it still is the best stealth game out there in 2022.)

Re: Apex Legends Studio Respawn Speaks Out Against Ongoing Dev Harassment

XOF

I'm honestly really tired of reading about this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not tired of studios supporting their teams and devs speaking out, I'm tired of how stupid some people have become and seemingly there's no way of fixing this.

Devs are people, people get affected by other people's words/opinion whether they want it or not. In turn, their mental health not only affects their physical health, it'll also negatively affect their work. How hard is this to understand? A little bit of sympathy goes a long way!

Re: The Witcher 4 Will Kick Off a Multi-Game Saga, Says CD Projekt RED

XOF

@themightyant You actually make a great point. I'd never looked at it that way. Thinking back, even the small sections where you play as her in The Witcher 3 were pretty damn fast-paced for how OP she was. That would definitely be a great challenge for the devs. (On a different note, I wouldn't mind it if they allow us to make our own Witcher like V. Is it too obvious that I just want a female Witcher? lol)

Re: The Witcher 4 Will Kick Off a Multi-Game Saga, Says CD Projekt RED

XOF

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. I'm definitely not excited yet, I've grown to hate announcements like this. (I think Cyberpunk 2077's hype has left a bad taste in my mouth despite having enjoyed the game.) But overall, CDPR have a lot of work to do. I do hope for Ciri to be the protagonist if this is taking place in the same time-frame, though.

Re: The Callisto Protocol's Boss Underfire for Appearing to Glorify 15 Hour Shifts

XOF

@BossBE I think that's the thing about Schreier, he counts being a journalist in the industry for a long time as being in the industry. Seeing someone drive an 18-wheeler doesn't make you a trucker. Schreier just likes to make people look bad. I don't agree with heavy crunch and I understand that corporate life definitely puts a lot of people under pressure, but as you say great things aren't achieved without a little bit of sacrifice.

Re: The Callisto Protocol's Boss Underfire for Appearing to Glorify 15 Hour Shifts

XOF

I'm not a fan of studios pressuring people for unsustainable hours that ultimately lowers the quality of the work they do. It's just stupid. And it's interesting that I, living in a middle-eastern third world country, see this kind of thing happen less here than it does in the West. People deserve their time off, if somebody wants to work more hours... that's a different topic. (We all got our own reasons for being workaholic)

But all that aside Jason Schreier is a journalist, and I've grown to despise journalists these past few years. Schreier strikes me as someone who lacks empathy for the employees and just wants to throw shades at companies and studios because he gets paid to do it. Not to mention he acts like a child and literally blocks random people he disagrees with in his own comment sections. Schreier doesn't take responsibility for the power his voice holds. But who can blame a man for just wanting to make money out of a messed up situation?

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Patch 1.18 Is Out Now on PS5, PS4

XOF

LMAO, the internet being set on fire because of a face paint is a new low. You don't want the pride flag? don't use it. It's that simple. There nothing to be upset about, and now if you are upset it clearly shows you have a problem with the people that flag represents or why else would it bother you so much? It's just that easy.

I'm glad Guerrilla Games continue to stand their ground regarding these things and representing people accurately as they wish in their game. Kudos to them for having empathy. Not even remotely in the LGBTQ+ myself, but I know I'll be rocking that flag the next time I launch HFW.

Re: Brief The Last of Us HBO Clip Posted Online

XOF

I love how true Pedro Pascal is to the character! He's nailing it.
Bella Ramsey too, I see a lot of negative comments about her online (and admittedly among my own friends which is sad), but I think she's great and can pull off the character really well.

The thing about Ellie is that no 14-year-old can ever pull it off you will always have to choose someone much older. She's got a complex character and if you want her to jump off the screen like she does in the game, you gotta be very meticulous with who choose. Bella Ramsey has shown she has the talent for it.
