I did the PS4 Pro but that was only for the Spider-Man limited edition version. Otherwise I would have stuck with the base.
I have even less a reason to get a Pro (especially at that price point). My highest resolution screen is a 1440p monitor and I rarely buy games at launch these days. With all the patches games usually look and run well by the time I play them.
Hard to say whether this will sell. Hardware with Sony either seems to sell poorly (psvr2, vita) or great (consoles, psvr1, ps portal) so who knows.
Evey PlayStation studio needs to adopt Insomniacs method of making games in my opinion. In the last decade they have made six high quality games (not including the VR stuff they did). Some with big budgets and some with smaller budgets. Sure none have been universal 10/10 masterpieces but they've been so high quality that they will sell and be masterpieces to somebody. They have to stop putting all their eggs into one basket hoping it becomes a massive success. We've seen time and time again that smaller and cheaper games can be massive successes.
Imagine this scenario. Naughty Dog has 70% of their staff working on their next triple A IP. The other 30%? In smaller teams working on smaller titles with smaller budgets. Team A is working on a Last of Us prequel starting Joel and Tommy. Using TLOU2' engine making a ten hour adventure for $40-50 (Hell if they reworked Factions and put it on there they could charge $60-70 for all I care). Team B is working on a new Jak and Daxter game. Doesn't need expensive graphics technology or high quality voice acting. Just amazing art, funny dialogue, and great level design. Charge $30-40 bucks for this eight hour adventure.
It could work. And you have studios not getting worn out working on the same thing for 3-7 years.
@TrickyDicky99 yeah but they only get a cut if those profits. Probably hoping to have multiple live service games that they own where they can keep most if not all the profits.
I'm going to be honest, I had no idea fps games on PS5 even supported gyro controls. Personally their does nothing for me as I've never liked gyro controls in shooters. Sucks for those who like it I guess.
Never thought I'd see the day a platformer became my most anticipated game of the year. I like the genre but I have finished few games in it. After finishing Astros Playroom though I said I would definitely buy another game if they made one and lo and behold! The only game that could trump this for me is if Metroid Prime 4 gets dated for this year.
Wait is this going to be free or cost money? Free I'll try it but if it costs money I'm good.
The shooting looked great but a hero shooter was about the last thing I wanted from this. So much you can do with a sci fi multiplayer game. Definitely did not want this. I'll try the beta though.
Yeah only Astro Bot for me. But in fairness the only other game I would have been interested in is concord, and I wasn't really a fan of how it looked or how it seemed to play I'll try it though.
So yeah other than Astro Bot it was L showcase for me.
The Last of Us is the only Naughty Dog game I actually love (not a fan of uncharted, Jak, or TLOU2). That being said when I say I love it I mean it's one of my GOATs so I'll always be interested in what ND is making. But an announcement like this is probably not the best way to go into it considering their recent stumblings. Still excited to see it though.
I owned a PS4 Pro, but it was because I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and I wanted to limited edition console. I never owned a 4K display and still don't, so I would personally have no reason to ever invest in this. With the base PS5 still being $400-$500 I imagine this would sell for at least $600. And I struggle to see anybody but the most hardcore fans spending THAT much for a console. The Portal was a success but PSVR2 was a failure. Maybe this will be somewhere in the middle and advance some proprietary software tech. Or it may be super expensive to make and it will sell for quite the loss.
Who knows. Right now I need Sony to make their PS5 with more sturdy parts. My HDMI port is busted. The ports in my switch and Series S work just fine and I've had them for even longer than my PS5. Was really disappointed to see it fail and to see how much they were going to charge to fix it (I didn't go for it).
@StrickenBiged About 20 hours in and I can say I've ran into several quests where there were multiple ways of completing an objective. But this will be more faction and side quests. Not far enough into the main story to say so.
Will dip into it next year when it goes on sale. CRPGs and most fantasy games I've tried haven't really been my thing. So I'll give it a try when the risk is far lower.
@Juanalf Which is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of I agree. Marvel's Spider-Man is one of my favorite games of all time despite it's flaws. And I hope Spider-Man 2 will be an ideal sequel.
Plus Insomniac consistently puts out good games. Starting with sunset overdrive, they haven't really missed since then.
Glad it got such high ratings. Definitely going to try it once it goes on sale. Fantasy games and CRPGs haven't hooked me yet. So I gave priority to Starfield. Excited to try it at some point though!

Re: Astro Bot Looks Absolutely Glorious, Lands on PS5 This September
I was pleasantly surprised by Astros Playroom. Best tech demo ever made and makes me excited for this game.

Re: Rumour: Full Astro Bot PS5 Game to Be Announced Very Soon
I finally got around to finishing playroom and liked it alot. So this excites me! Just really hope it's not VR so I can actually play it.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Has Ray Tracing at 60fps on PS5
Will probably play at 40 fps. I imagine this will look clean on my 1440p monitor.
Re: Preview: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Plays Like PS5 Superhero Perfection
I'm so glad it's shaping up to be great. I'm not going to be able to play it this year. But looking forward to potentially Christmas or early 2024!
Re: State of Play Livestream Revealed for Thursday, a Focus on Indie and Third-Party Games
@MinotauroBJJ Disappointing or not. It certainly is making them a lot of money.
