Re: Ubisoft Boss Apologises for 'Ball Is in Your Court' Comment During Company-Wide Q&A

Ubisoft is not in a great spot going forward: AC Valhalla was massive but now that the support ceased, I predict it will go down in price massively fast so they can't expect too much money from it. MIrage is most likely (hopefully?) be a one-off experience in a tired franchise, and the next big AC game may or may return to what Valhalla did with a sprawling open-world. This could be the straw to break the camel's back.

Far Cry is also in a weird spot. Far Cry 6 didn't make any waves in terms of innnovation (even though Guillemot is trying to spin it as such) and unless something major changes, I don't see the next installment saving Ubisoft from the brink.

Tom Clancy games are all over the place. Frankly, I feel slapping the author's name on that many games diluted the brand to the point where it is now just a generic term with little appeal, and no guarantee of quality.

What I would love Ubisoft see do is to focus on smaller, experimental games and take more risks, innovate. A sequel to Valiant Hearts would be awesome, with sufficient budget and good marketing. What's happening with Rayman? Legends was great but released in 2014. What about Scott Pilgrim? Seeing as River City Girls has been revered by many, maybe it's time to revisit it.

There are so many great franchises Ubisoft could tap into (Call of Juarez, South Park, TrackMania), yet I don't see any of them in the news.

Re: New PS Store Sale Drops PS5, PS4 Game Prices Below £20/$20

Dragon's Dogma is a great game for the price, so much content and fun with different builds you can try and pawns to hire from other players.

I wonder if the recent PS Store price reductions (the game was discounted to $9.99 for the longest time, and only recently dropped lower) has something to do with the sequel coming. Or simply that the game was released 6 years ago on PS4.

This looks like another proof that pushing more pixels doesn't automatically mean having more fun. There are reasons why Bloodborne, even with its terrible performance in places, is still a benchmark very few (if any) other games can reach in terms of being engaging and fun.

Re: Best Free Games on PS5

I was blown away by how good Kid A Mnesia: Exhibition is. I downloaded it because I remembered the trailer from Sony's State of Play, expecting to delete it in a few minutes. Instead, I spend all day wandering around and listening to songs from a band I'm not a fan of, with visuals I'm not accustomed to. I have since downloaded it again recently and enjoyed it as much the second time.

Also, the amount of content stuffed into Warframe is frankly mind-boggling for a free-to-play game. I tried it a few months ago fully expecting to be assaulted by microtransactions but instead found it having fantastic production values with only light paid elements. I already decided that 2023 will be a year of finishing a bunch of long games, and Warframe may just make the list as a "turn off your brain for a few hours" kind of experience.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 458

I will be starting Resident Evil 7 this weekend, eventually planning to earn all trophies. After a bit of a kerfuffle where the PS Plus version was not eligible for a PS5 upgrade. I finally bought it during the recent sale and an now ready to experience my first Resident Evil game ever. Exciting!

Re: 60 Most Anticipated PS5, PS4 Games of 2023

Fortunately, while the list of looks absolutely bonkers, there are only few games which interest me:
1. Layers of Fear
2. Marvel's Spider-Man 2
3. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals
4. Resident Evil 4
5. The Wolf Among Us 2

This is good, though, because I finally caved in and bought Elden Ring (DLC in 2023?), and with The Witcher 3 PS5 port just released and my backlog from 2022, I think I'm covered for the whole year.

Merry Christmas.

Looks like the US PlayStation Store went to sleep early today and is giving out errors when adding games to cart and downloading so let's hope it's fixed soon.

The backlog beckons!
I'll be hopefully starting Hyper Light Drifter which I bought last year, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel which I started in 2021 and promptly abandoned for something else, thus forgetting what little I got from the story.
I also have Ace Combat 7 to finish so we'll see but I suspect I will also buy one or more (let's be honest, more) games on the current sale, that Resident Evil 2 and 3 collection looks mighty tempting.
