That the review mentions a 20-hour romp does not bode well for the live-service aspects of the game where Ubisoft would like us to engage with the game all the time.
This reads like a slightly above average single player offering where battle passes and seasons were tacked on to recoup as much investment from the prolonged development cycle as possible from the few players who decide to bite long-term.
I really hope that the trailer contains the DLC's release date and that it's soon (March 2024?). My body is ready to continue journeying The Lands Between.
Two weeks ago: "Microsoft is getting out of the console business and we're getting Gears of War and Starfield on PlayStation. Trust me, bro!"
Yesterday: "Microsoft is briging four indie games to PlayStation."
Ah well, YouTubers and media outlets got their clicks and the rest of us can move right along. I am excited for Pentiment coming to PlayStation, though.
CONCEPTUALIZATION [Challenging: Success] - Maybe another studio can get inspired by Disco Elysium and create an incredibly well-written, thought-provoking and mature single-player experience like that set in a quasi-real world. It will take chutzpah but the precedent has been set.
Every time I read about a new Baldur's Gate 3, I am reminded that I still didn't buy the game but still wondering if the game can be even more polished by the time I finally decide to go for it.
The (sad) point that shook me from what I already watched was how some people sent death threats to Laura Bailey and her newborn son because she portrayed Abby in the game. This is some peak mental/criminal behavior right there.
Too bad, the trailer made it look like the game has slight Observer vibes and I always like me some Observer vibes. Unfortunately it looks like I won't be bothering with this one anytime soon.
@MrSensical I tend to agree, played and finished both Spirit Hunter: Death Mark and Spirit Hunter: NG recently and while they are not exactly in the same vein as Danganronpa, they deserve more praise and attention from the visual novel crowd on PlayStation.
I was debating upgrading from Essential to Extra once my current subscription runs out but with the price hike, I think I'll stay where I am now or drop the subscription completely. It's mostly not worth it for me, and I recently realized I haven't played any of the Essential games for years.
I'm still wondering when the best time to get this game is since it still receives patches and improvements. I'm thinking of biting the bullet during the upcoming Black Friday sale but then my backlog is enormous and I can wait if it means an even more polished experience. Decisions, decisions...
@Bunchesopuppies I'm OK with a horror-based walking simulator personally, not every game has to be a Souls-like or rogue-lite to get on my radar. A tight, short single-player experience is, in fact, just what the doctor ordered.
Man, that doesn't look that great, it seems to me that the combat doesn't have any kind of punch and I'm mostly looking at numbers floating on the screen and health bars getting depleted. Plus the voice acting is a bit stilted.
I wish this was an action RPG instead of a Souls-like. not every game benefits from these mechanics and I'd rather play a solid action than getting frustrated with being put to the nearest checkpoint.
I remember a few years ago when Ubisoft asked fans which historic periods they would like to see Assassin's Creed games being set in, and someone from Ubisoft then complained that getting an AC game set in Japan or WWII as fans had asked is not viable.
And here we go: we could be getting a Japanese-period AC game soon. Makes me wonder if a WWII game is at least being considered now inside Ubisoft, seeing as it is apparently viable to set an AC game in Japan.
@Beerheadgamer82 I can imagine at least 4 NG+-related trophies could get added later: finish the game in NG+, finish the game in NG+ on the hardest difficulty are the two safe ones to guess.
Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 added the Remastered Trophies DLC list which Insomniac can get inspired by: Achieve the highest rating in a challenge (I assume Spider-Man 2 will have open-world challenges again) and maybe achieve of certain combo multiplier?
All speculation on my part, obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got more than the obligatory 2 NG+ trophies this time.
While I am not a fan of sports games, it looks to me like the ultimate loser here is the FIFA board. EA has apparently been doing great without them in terms of sales and based on the non-existence of any officially sanctioned competing football game, that's plenty of money FIFA lost this year and every year going forward.
I will eventually get the game and the platinum, I'm just wondering if Remedy is planning to release any DLC for Alan Wake 2 which may add new trophies later. If so, I'd rather wait for a sale on the complete edition.
We'll see in 10 years when the agreement Microsoft had with Sony around releasing Call of Duty on PlayStation expires. That's when I suspect the true face of Microsoft, with no obligation to deliver content or even new Call of Duty installments on PS, will be revealed.
It's getting a bit cramped in the rogue-lite/rogue-like genre: with The Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells having strong followings in the "old-school graphics" sub-genre and Hades being big in the "current-gen graphics," I suspect Astral Ascent will have to pull some serious weight to carve out its niche. Especially since, as I suspect, the prospect of repeated runs and losing (almost) everything in the current run on death may not be as appealing to plenty of people as the latest flavor of Call of Duty or Madden.
For some reason, the black bars in the trailer bothered me. It feels to me like they were added for "cinematic effect" but in fact obscured a lot of what the developers tried to show. Hopefully the game won't have any such additions and will be a true full-screen experience.
@DiggleDog While sensible, I am worried some peopley may have inflated expectations around the discounts for Halloween and Black Friday Sales.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I like a good deal as much as the next person but if I remember correctly from the past two years, the discounts during end-of-year sales were not as big as they were hyped online, and plenty of people spent money not because of awesome deals because they wanted to spend money during those sales.
I am wondering if the base game and DLC will be available for purchase separately once the Complete Edition releases, or if they remove it from the store and the only way to play Forbidden West will be the Complete Edition.
Just as an interesting tidbit: the patch notes are 141,736 characters long (minus the title). Push Square's review of Baldur's Gate 3 has 12,651 characters (minus the title and subtitle).
Conclusion? The patch notes are roughly 11.2x longer than the game review on this site. Incredible.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Is Bringing Some Great Games to PS5, But Rumours Will Remain Rampant About What's Next
So let me get this straight:
Two weeks ago: "Microsoft is getting out of the console business and we're getting Gears of War and Starfield on PlayStation. Trust me, bro!"
Yesterday: "Microsoft is briging four indie games to PlayStation."
Ah well, YouTubers and media outlets got their clicks and the rest of us can move right along. I am excited for Pentiment coming to PlayStation, though.

One of the games I voted for in the recent Push Square poll on which Microsoft games I'd like to see on PS5. Glad it's at least being considered.

I suspect that the PS4 platinum trophy name is misspelled. In the article:
