Re: Skull and Bones (PS5) - Solid Sea-RPG Ships First-Rate Naval Gameplay

That the review mentions a 20-hour romp does not bode well for the live-service aspects of the game where Ubisoft would like us to engage with the game all the time.

This reads like a slightly above average single player offering where battle passes and seasons were tacked on to recoup as much investment from the prolonged development cycle as possible from the few players who decide to bite long-term.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Is Bringing Some Great Games to PS5, But Rumours Will Remain Rampant About What's Next

So let me get this straight:

Two weeks ago: "Microsoft is getting out of the console business and we're getting Gears of War and Starfield on PlayStation. Trust me, bro!"

Yesterday: "Microsoft is briging four indie games to PlayStation."

Ah well, YouTubers and media outlets got their clicks and the rest of us can move right along. I am excited for Pentiment coming to PlayStation, though.

Re: Action RPG Achilles: Legends Untold Storms the Beaches of Troy in Developer-Led Gameplay

Man, that doesn't look that great, it seems to me that the combat doesn't have any kind of punch and I'm mostly looking at numbers floating on the screen and health bars getting depleted. Plus the voice acting is a bit stilted.

I wish this was an action RPG instead of a Souls-like. not every game benefits from these mechanics and I'd rather play a solid action than getting frustrated with being put to the nearest checkpoint.

Re: Rumour: This Might Be Assassin's Creed Red's Main Character

I remember a few years ago when Ubisoft asked fans which historic periods they would like to see Assassin's Creed games being set in, and someone from Ubisoft then complained that getting an AC game set in Japan or WWII as fans had asked is not viable.

And here we go: we could be getting a Japanese-period AC game soon. Makes me wonder if a WWII game is at least being considered now inside Ubisoft, seeing as it is apparently viable to set an AC game in Japan.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Post-Launch Updates to Add New Game+, Mission Replay

@Beerheadgamer82 I can imagine at least 4 NG+-related trophies could get added later: finish the game in NG+, finish the game in NG+ on the hardest difficulty are the two safe ones to guess.

Spider-Man Remastered on PS5 added the Remastered Trophies DLC list which Insomniac can get inspired by: Achieve the highest rating in a challenge (I assume Spider-Man 2 will have open-world challenges again) and maybe achieve of certain combo multiplier?

All speculation on my part, obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got more than the obligatory 2 NG+ trophies this time.

Re: EA Sports FC 24 (PS5) - Rebranded and Refined But Not Revolutionary

While I am not a fan of sports games, it looks to me like the ultimate loser here is the FIFA board. EA has apparently been doing great without them in terms of sales and based on the non-existence of any officially sanctioned competing football game, that's plenty of money FIFA lost this year and every year going forward.

Re: Gorgeous Roguelite Astral Ascent Soars onto PlayStation Platforms in November

It's getting a bit cramped in the rogue-lite/rogue-like genre: with The Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells having strong followings in the "old-school graphics" sub-genre and Hades being big in the "current-gen graphics," I suspect Astral Ascent will have to pull some serious weight to carve out its niche. Especially since, as I suspect, the prospect of repeated runs and losing (almost) everything in the current run on death may not be as appealing to plenty of people as the latest flavor of Call of Duty or Madden.

Re: Massive PS Store Sale Wants You to Play PS5, PS4 for Longer

@DiggleDog While sensible, I am worried some peopley may have inflated expectations around the discounts for Halloween and Black Friday Sales.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I like a good deal as much as the next person but if I remember correctly from the past two years, the discounts during end-of-year sales were not as big as they were hyped online, and plenty of people spent money not because of awesome deals because they wanted to spend money during those sales.
