@MattBoothDev An a lot of publishers and developers managers already aren't happy on their return on investment, Square Enix is pretty famous for never being happy with how much money their games make. So my guess is that they will take the option of cutting staff.

AI is going to be absolutely huge in game development. Already teams are using it to debug code and even write code for them.

Now will it be Unity or Unreal that release the first co pilots for their engines?

@Loamy I expect story telling to jump next game as tv writers start to put things Into shape for the tv show.

@Reeneman I think Sony just look at the numbers and they are just thrashing Microsoft in every area and that with the minimal spending on advertising strategy over the last 3 years, why should they spend tonne of money? What will get them? Will it make them a extra billion probably not will even make them another hundred again probably not.

@KaijuKaiser . 5 billion dollars for acquisitions set aside in cash. They have 13 billion dollars in cash, they can probably raise more if needed.

Plus buying them outright isn't the only option, there are other possibilities such as a merger. An also Sony can do part cash part share deal.

@themightyant Which is a game built by the engine creators. It technically implemented but nowhere near to the fidelity that is possible when making a game from the ground up with those technologies in mind. An we won't see a triple A game release design and built with those technologies in mind until 2025/26 at the earliest.

@Futureshark Why HFW DLC is PS5 only, it still being built on a game engine that is design to run on PS4. So why there will some advantages of not having to think about how they will implement things on PS4, the engine itself and assets will limit them some what.

@Bionic-Spencer Given that they sold most of the assets Sony would want. Buying Square just for FF is really a big gamble for Sony. I think Take-Two is a lot better target. Giving Sony control of GTA which is a massive system seller.

@jrt87 Sony is rumour to had hundreds of it own developers working on The Callisto Protocol. That part of strategy is strangely missing from the article.

It could be another Callisto Protocol where Sony is assigning their own developers to help third party studios out with their games, even if they are multi platform.

@uptownsoul An has been from day 1. When PS5 launch the demand was so high not even parcel firms could keep up with demand on day 1. Brought websites across the internet crashing down. I never saw any of that with the Xbox.

@Americansamurai1 I don't think Starfield is going to sale as well as people think. I don't think it going to appeal to the space game players or the fantasy players. We shall see. I don't think it going to come out this year either.

I remember a lot of people was criticising Sony strategy over the last three years, some calling them arrogant, an doing a repeat PS3 era. But the sales speak for themselves.

It surprising that car manufacturers aren't providing 3d models themselves considering they build 3d models of cars as part of the design process.

@NEStalgia It weird but Embracer is such a big group of different developers now. Perhaps they intending for Crystal dynamics team to be a group of developers that they can deploy to aid other developers in the group.

Embracer strategy isn't all that clear to me to be honest. An it seem like they got a incredibly messy structure. It going to be interesting to see what happens with it in the coming.

They also got no shortage of IPs for Chrystal Dynamic to be assign.

@NEStalgia I know you just use made up numbers but surelyit would have been better for Square enix to have sold that IP for 600million and pay of their debt that sale the studios along with the IP.

@get2sammyb if we base the pricing on the dual shock edge price, if anything it under priced. And VR2 come with a lot of features that other VR equipment charge a lot more.

For 210 quid no way. An people think PSVR2 is expensive. This is truly a rip off and I wouldn't be surprise if Sony making 150 quid per controller.

@Michael2008ish ratchet and clank rift apart couldn't be done one PS4 as IS. You could redesign it to run on that console, an remove the ray tracing but as is it couldn't run on PS4.

@KaijuKaiser That explains third party games. Not so much even first party games are still limited.

I think the problem is at the moment is that to truly move on to the next era of graphics will truly require a substantial changes in game studios production pipeline and reworking an rebuilding of their game engines. That takes time and investment. PC might also be holding companies back, PC gang wasn't happy when it was suggested that forspoken might require nvme m.2 hard drive.

@Jtheripper O wouldn't be entirely shock if EA only did this game so that it could devote developer time to updating it internal engine to run on PS5 without taking developers of their money makers like Fifa.

They are insane to release this game during the same period as Dead In Space and Hogwarts Legacy. It probably be wiser for them to bank the project, release it later in the year when there is less massive games from established franchises being release. An start working on their next game. Like film studios do.

@Impossibilium There actually no reason for any of these companies to be making cuts, none of them are even close to becoming unprofitable. The only reason they are doing it is to impress investors. I suspect in long term they will end up causing damage to themselves.

@nessisonett An the first minister is making a bigger deal than it really is or has to be. All the whilst many Scottish MSPs are saying they are willing to make changes to the law to make it compatible with UK wide legislation.

@LifeGirl The flaw with VR is that you basically need high end mobile phone hardware plus more to make it worthwhile but people aren't willing to pay for that hardware as a peripheral.

Thinking about it for about 10 seconds, twisted metal is the absolutely perfect franchise for a live service, battle Royale game. An has the potential for a huge toy market as well.

@theMEGAniggle It could be a project that has been created by X Dev that has been presented to Sony higher ups and got funding an support, it could be they have even spun out a new studio for the game.

@mus422 They did, they explain they were building a brand new engine for the game so that they could create whole planets, or very large planets and seamless flights from planet to space.

It a yearly release title like fifa 2023. Frontier will release f1 manager 2023 next year no doubt they will fixed and deepens many featurs.

@Gyousel That because most wanted bigger screens that take up less floor space in their houses, LED and LCD and Plasma were able to deliver that, at a affordable price. HD CRT weren't. Consumer weren't interested in paying more for a better picture quality.
