Re: PS Plus and Subscription Services Have Indie Publisher Devolver Digital Worried

ralphdibny

@FullbringIchigo Lol fair enough. Streaming service for film and TV has meant the decline of physical media. That being said, lots of shows and films that would never see a physical release in certain regions also get a new lease of life if they come to streaming (which does happen).

I don't doubt the discount that ps plus gives you but it is normally for games I wouldn't buy anyway, so they're worth a punt if they're included in the sub. Its just erroneous to refer to them as free which alot of people do.

There's lots of TV shows that aren't coming to blu ray (remaining Netflix marvel, the Orville, remaining legion, the gifted, cloak and dagger, runaways) which is annoying because I want to complete my collections! Likewise it sort of annoys me when a game I want to own comes to psplus because I feel less inclined to buy it!

Re: Random: Pepsiman on PS4 Is Probably Too Good to Be True

@FullbringIchigo I feel like cool spot had the 7up stuff removed for its UK release because Fido Dido was our 7up mascot...

I remember when I was young, I thought cool spot was the virgin interactive mascot until I found out (probably in the last few years) that he was actually a 7up mascot in the US!

Re: Hoodie-ken! Zavvi Launch New Street Fighter Clothing Range

@Paranoimia they are really bad. I binned em off a decade ago when they sold me a TV box set that had a faulty disc, of course you won't know that until you've watched up to that point and they did nothing to help.

More recently I took a punt on a blu ray having recently bought some cheap amiibo from them with no problems. I tried to cancel the blu ray order within minutes of making it but couldn't because it was already "processing". Got in touch and just got a load of internal company policy. Of course the blu ray arrived and I sent it back with no refund for weeks. I had to open a PayPal case to get it back in the end.

Funny how they sell gaming tat, sorry I mean merchandise when I don't think they even sell any or many games anymore....

Re: Beloved 16-Bit Disney Games Aladdin and The Lion King Reportedly Getting PS4 Remasters

ralphdibny

@KALofKRYPTON up to and including PS1 would be feasible I guess. I don't want to exclude the PS2 generation but the whole thing is a pipe dream anyway. I doubt they'd do it, there is probably over a hundred games up to then anyway, especially if you include platform different versions like the snes/mega drive alladin

Mind you, I was thinking just platformers only but I wonder if they'd include stuff like Mulan Print Studio (just an example of something random, don't know if it exists lol)

Maybe they could do a star wars console, a marvel console, a Disney classics console and a Disney channel console (for the TV show games). Then Disney can be Disney and make money without going full Disney about it and we can collect more tat to put under our TVs. Buy all all 4 and we get a HDMI splitter in the shape of Mickey mouse....

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Microtransactions Are Rolling Out on PS4 Now

ralphdibny

This is a bit of a sad calculation but you can normally earn a little over 1000 wumpa coins by racing android alley offline over and over again for 50 minutes or so on easy (coming first). I think this is the most efficient and boring way of doing it when online multipliers are not in effect. But with the new real world price of wumpa coins it puts that work at about £1/hour

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Microtransactions Are Rolling Out on PS4 Now

ralphdibny

@Rob_230

2500 wumpas will net you a character skin or set of wheels

5000 wumpas will net you a car

Characters are normally 1500 wumpas (unless theyre part of a bundle which is normally over 5000 wumpas)

Stickers I think are between 1000-3000 for a pack of up to 3 stickers (I think they had one last grand Prix at 3600 for four stickers though)

Decals are 250-1000 wumpas

Colour sets are no more than 1500 wumpas but can be less I think

Re: Guide: All Free PS Plus Games in 2019

ralphdibny

Just realised this article says free games...they are not free when you pay 40-50 a year for them (and other features). I'm not hating on the service but these are not free games. I'll keep my sub up until I finish my 3 year back log of ps plus games...

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Is Getting Microtransactions

ralphdibny

Boooo

I managed to get enough wumpa coins in the nitro tour to get all the grand Prix items in the pit stop so as long as that's still possible then it doesn't affect me.

I imagine that lots of players will be put off playing though so it might be harder to get into the top 5% to get the new champion car skins next time though.

Having said that, it will probably attract more vulnerable gamers that like to spend tons of money across tiny transactions and that just makes me really sad. I wish games weren't like this. Microtransactions and loot boxes give gaming a bad name.

Re: Guide: All Free EA Access Games Available on PS4

ralphdibny

They're not free games if you have to pay a subscription for them are they?

It's like saying ps plus monthly games are free...or all the film's and shows on Netflix are free....

Forgive me if I've missed some information, I don't know anything about EA Access

Re: Rumour: PS Plus August PS4 Games Leaked Well Ahead of Schedule

ralphdibny

Not that these will be the games but the I'd choose UFC over starwars because I bought the latter in a sale a while back and it remains in my backlog.... I played UFC (2 I think) a few years back at a friend's house and I thought it was quite an interesting game so I wouldn't mind playing one iteration of it properly

Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled's First Seasonal Grand Prix Content Outlined

ralphdibny

It's good that there is content but it's lame that only the top 5% of players will get that car. I've become better at this game over the last few days but I am still averaging around 4-6th place online (and I'm sure that's because other racers end up leaving the race mid way through...)

I notice that the top players are using N. Tropy normally so I assume they've learned the best lines through doing the time trials but I haven't even attempted them yet because of the warning we got about corrupted saves. Hopefully I can get better when the time trials are patched but I still won't get near that top 5%.

I'd even be happy if the car became available indefinitely for an insane amount of wumpa coins. Then at least every player can get it even if it's through massive grinding.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for July 2019?

ralphdibny

@ShogunRok @get2sammyb @AdamNovice were these poll articles not posted prior to the price increase/games drop? (I've been linked over to this site from Nintendo life and been visiting for a good few months).

I quite like these articles, just to find out what push square and the readers think of the line up. The fact remains that ps plus has decreased in value but this article doesn't comment on it as far as I can tell, it's just a generic poll.

Thought I'd throw my two cents in so the authors don't get too disheartened!

On topic: I don't like football but will try the racing game. I've been trying to play/complete/delete ps plus games for ages to make space on my hard drive so I will at least have to give PES a go. The only football game I like is FIFA 2000 on ps1 for some reason (probably because it's more arcadey). I once played 90 minute match with a friend at 1 in the morning and our scores were like 30-27 (they would've been higher but we kept falling asleep at random intervals because we were so drunk and tired!)

Re: EA Believes Loot Boxes Are Ethical, Deems Them Surprise Mechanics

ralphdibny

Loot boxes are bad and EA are the worst for them. I think because of their financial success on mobile platforms, Simpsons tapped out anyone?

I've known people whose lives have been stuck in a vicious cycle which is either due to or exacerbated by the presence of FIFA coins in their lives. I've never played it so I don't know the exact details of the game but I know the type of game from experience.

It is true that some people can moderate their lives and spending appropriately. It's also true that some people have so much money that the damage mtx/loot boxes cause is just psychological rather than also taking a financial toll. It is unfortunately true that games of these nature deliberately target the vulnerable, whether that be a child or young adult, disabled or people in poor circumstances (unsatisfying job, rough relationship, difficult times in general). People get their positive experience from these sorts of games, not realising that it is only exacerbating the personal issues that drove them to it in the first place.

Unfortunately gambling can't be banned, as countries with overturned laws have demonstrated. But like smoking, all adverts for gambling or games that even whiff of lootboxes should be banned outright. It is lame for the people who work so hard on these games, as they are not seeing all the dividends but I would like it if the CEOs and middle men were not pocketing the hard earned cash of the consumer using sleazy underhanded tactics.

Unfortunately I also doubt the UK will do jack all about this, especially the Tories as they are in the pockets of these sorts of businessmen.
