Re: PS5 Disc Drive Stock Still a Source of Intense Irritation for Many

riceNpea

So many people complaining about something they're not even interested in buying 🙄

And no reports on the many people who have bought one. I don't know how articles like this are helpful. Everything is anecdotal and all is concentrated on people who are unhappy, many of whom are unhappy on behalf of others.

Sony may deserve criticism, but so do consumers for not doing their research before they buy a premium product, and so far there is none. I own a Pro, I knew disk drives were scarce before I bought it, they were sold out before the Pro was released, I'm not crying about it and playing the blame game.

Re: 74% of PS5 Fans Would Be Interested in a Handheld

@themightyant i think Sony are mad to try to rejoin the handheld market for a native device when the Portal does well and is cheap.

If Sony do, I really hope they get creative with it like Nintendo are with their handheld and don't just make a tiny PS5. I'd like it if they'd reinstate a media player on the console, so do that first Sony. Then make the handheld discoverable and usable as a streaming device so I can use my TV apps on it on other TVs

Re: The Last of Us 2 PS5 Pro Is Yet Another Version of a Great Game

@DennisReynolds I didn't say I thought she was still sweet and innocent by the end of the game, I said the signs were not there that she would turn into a deranged murdering psycho.

And Joel was an ordinary man before the outbreak. He didn't turn into a survivalist capable of killing because Stephanie died, he did that because he had to: kill or be killed. To his credit, he didn't revel in it and didn't let the inhumanity of a post-apocaltytic world turn him into a monster. He still knew right from wrong and it still haunted him when doing wrong is the right thing to do to survive.

That's what made Ellie special. She wasn't tainted by that mindset in the first game. And by the end of part 1, Joel's betrayal of her wishes was not the prelude to her transforming into a nutcase hellbent on murder and revenge. She was angry and resentful, as expected, but there was no correlation or causation to what she became once Joel was killed. I found it contrived and ridiculous in part 2 that Ellie still felt that way against Joel so many years after it happened and treated him poorly like an entitled brat. She wasn't that petty and heartless. For her to hold a grudge for years felt artificial.

Ellie changing into a crazed murderess happened in due course as part of TLoU2. And I really disliked it for the reasons I said previously. ND deciding to split the fanbase so they could pat themselves on the back for being so clever.

I also said in my conversation to others that my view is not definitive or correct by default and that if others like TLoU2 I'm not here to tell them they're wrong to. Such a shame you can't do the same.

We could discuss our thoughts on the story in civilised fashion if you prefer. Be nice to exchange views without condescension from you.

@DennisReynolds If you think by the end of part 1 Ellie's character had changed from sweet, caring and uncorrupted to homicidal, psychotic, relentless psycopath capable of murdering even pregnant women, I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. If I'm a fragile boy for not liking the second game then by your logic you're an evil, blood-drinking, horned, devil worshiping, clown-faced, Antony Faucci for liking it 😄

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite PS1 Games

This is an impossible question. So many great memories and so many new experiences that the era of Saturn and Playstation ushered in.

Because it far too hard to pick a game purely for its excellence at the time, I have to go with the first two games I ever bought on this console which demonstrated in different ways the massive impact Sony was going to have on the games industry; Wipeout and Tekken.

Wipeout because firstly it's an excellent game played at breakneck speeds. It did something never done before, made gaming cool in the mainstream to a non-gaming audience thanks to Sony's genius move bringing it to the club culture with its soundtrack.

Tekken because it was a technical and visual showpiece that never failed to impress mates who'd come round to see what the fuss was about my new console.

@Matroska
I don't allow that as an excuse. Journalists are meant to be professional writers, so if I can tell the difference, they certainly should be able to.

I guess it's like any industry, you have the cowboys at the bottom, then the standard, entry-level, know the bare minimum, then the experts and then the masters. If you're constantly mixing Americanisms with English you're at level 2 of that scale and unlikely to go higher.

@ChingChengHanji we already got a game about what would happen after an apocalypse with the first game, that included all you mentioned. We've had loads of games like that.

I can't think of any other sequel to a hugely popular game or film that went out of its way to make much of the fanbase hate it. And all in the name of brave risk-taking? No, it wasn't brave, it's hubris of the highest order. It's exactly the way Disney and Marvel have been acting the last few years, not giving fans what they want, but feeding them crap because they got high on the smell of their farts and think they're more important than the fans.

But, you like it so I'm glad about that. My view is my own, it may be shared by a lot of people but that doesn't make it right by default. I'm heavily biased by how wonderful the story was in the first game that didn't rely on stupid character decisions, a contrived plot and a relentlessly negative experience to deliver a game.

I guarantee you that if TLoU2 were the first game it would've sold far less and would not have a TV show made because of it. It's inferior in every way.
