Re: Online RPG Blue Protocol Shutting Down, Western Release Cancelled

@Flaming_Kaiser agreed. It's why Hoyoverse games are doing well. There's so much content to get your teeth into, the gameplay is engaging, and they've listened to the community and are more generous than they were with 5 star characters and the grind to get them without paying.

I played Genshin for a while, didn't pay a things, and easily got as much fun and content from it than a full priced game.

There is definelty a place for well crafted GaaS games, and in the case of games like Helldivers, it was easy to fair the credits required to purchase the DLC each time it came out.

If anything we should be turning our annoyance at games like FIFA that release EVERY year for full price with hardly any really substantial differences (sometimes the game is even worse than the year before) AND still they monetise it and concentrate on funneling people to UT and away from offline modes. Games like that are worse than even F2P mobile whale farming games.

@commentlife agreed. I think there's been a series of mistakes made with this game, but the main one was charging money for it when there are games in the same niche as it that are free, established, with more content, better character design and arguably better gameplay. It's not like Helldivers 2 that brought something new to GaaS with its visceral, bombastic, satirical co-op mayhem that understood how to give players a spectacle.

People didn't buy the game because they didn't want to. Nothing to do with campaigns.

There was a massive campaign against Hogwarts and people still parted with thier money in huge numbers. Every year there's plenty of negativity against FIFA and COD and they still sell well. GTA is usually accompanied by a campaign against it for various reasons. Diablo Immortal faced a campaign because it was on mobile, and made millions anyway.

The number of games that have failed because of a pre-launch campaign can be counted on the fingers of a mitten. Even Star Wars BF2 sold loads at launch and we all knew if was full of lootboxes because of a huge campaign!

If this game were appealing it would've sold. Unfortunately, it seems the characters in it are totally unappealing, from what I've read.

Whatsmore, IF by some quirk of fate a campaign against this game were the result of it not selling, well that would show us that gamers who play this type of game agree with the campaign and so why should anyone be upset? Especially those who never intended to buy it anyway.

We are not required to buy a game we don't want no matter how much work devs have put into it. Know your audience. Don't make something people don't want. This is why Disney is failing with Star Wars TV shows and recent Marvel films, until Deadpool.

@LikelySatan they are, but the subjective details are usually demonstrated. In this case I'm not seeing how the review shows that this game is devoid of creativity to the degree attributed to it, which is why I asked my question?

At least I asked for clarification. I wasn't sarcastic or insisted the review was wrong. It would've been nice if you treated me the same way, but you'll get your likes on your reply to me I'm sure.

I'm struggling to understand 'corporate' as a criticism. As I understand that word, many games since the era of microtransactions have a strong whiff of 'corporate' about them and in a way that's fundementally worse than this game will ever be.

So, what is corporate about his game? In what sense do you mean it? Is it just because it's not innovative? Every game Ubisoft make is reeking of corporate, for example. Most games are corporate in some sense. Am I understanding it right?

Re: How Much Would You Pay for Your PS5 Games? Dev Says Industry Is Waiting for GTA 6 to Hike Prices

riceNpea

@get2sammyb yep. We don't seem to see any push-back though. There doesn't seem to be the community feedback to publishers and platform holders like there is when a GaaS is released or gender nonsense is attributed to a game.

Why is that? PC gamers gave up physical copies and game ownership because of convenience and lower prices. Us console gamers just give it a pass and pay stupid money for digital releases at launch and beyond like they're doing us a favour. I find it really odd that we have that mentality and that it's becoming ever more pervasive.

Re: How Much Would You Pay for Your PS5 Games? Dev Says Industry Is Waiting for GTA 6 to Hike Prices

riceNpea

Doesn't matter. There's only a handful of developers I trust to buy games at launch. Everything else is bought later, and the games industry is such that the vast majority of games are sold at a significant price drop shortly after launch. Even at launch physical copies are reduced from RRP.

The real question should be why are digital game prices inflated instead of less than the physical edition? Why are we being conned into accepting this?

Re: Management Says Spiders Strike Allegations Are 'False and Even Defamatory'

@Fiendish-Beaver it's anonymous. How would anyone know who voted for industrial action or not? Until there's a walkout there's no way to ascertain which union members were against it. At that point if union members choose to got to work in enough numbers the action will collapse, so the votes when counted are detailed to the workforce. If it's a split decision it wouldn't go to industrial action.

Also, there's no evidence to say Union reps are coersing to workforce to strike, that is illegal in French law. If the Union really did behave like that in this day and age, well you may as well look for a different career because the system is broken.

Re: Management Says Spiders Strike Allegations Are 'False and Even Defamatory'

@Fiendish-Beaver if you're not in the union you can't sign the letter. If you are in the union you have an anonymous ballot to decide what action to take. They will all be aware that industrial action is an option of last resort, and a necessary bargaining position.

The signature on the letter is representative of union member wishes and not a list of names.

If there's industrial action, that's when you'll see which union members are prepared to put their money where their mouth is, and which members may have voted no to protest.
