Re: No Man's Sky Dev Received Death Threats Over Delay

Churchy

The funny thing about death threats is that if someone were actually serious about it, they wouldn't send you a pre-emptive message before they commit the crime. If anything I see death threats as a sign of success.

I'm glad that Sean Murray has had the sense to just laugh it off and make a joke about it.

And I wouldn't worry about the state of humanity or anything like that. People have often been outraged and ridiculous about all sorts of things - it's just that the instant access to air out disturbed and irrational thoughts just gives us a glimpse into those parts of people's minds. They're muppets. End of.

To @get2sammyb's credit, you reported this in a straight sensible way. You weren't sensationalist, you didn't call for a witch hunt, you just gave us the facts and let us make up our minds up about it.

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi: Cue the Japanese stock footage!

Re: Yep, No Man's Sky Has Been Delayed Again on PS4

Churchy

In all honesty, I'm still hyped and excited for the game. I like Sean Murray and the scale of what they're trying to do is insane, so take the time you need guys. My excitement level is still up in the rafters so I'm good!

Plus this gives me time to finish Dark Souls 3!

Re: Siren: Blood Curse May Be Sightjacking PS4

Churchy

I really hope this comes to pass. Siren is an often overlooked horror series and had some innovative and inventive ways of exploring the genre. Blood Curse never really got too much press due to it's initial episodic release, but something like this could really help bring it to a new audience.

Re: Review: DOOM (PS4)

Churchy

I'm seriously enjoying this. The one thing that leaves me mixed is the soundtrack. It feels like it's inspired by a mix of Fragile-era Nine Inch Nails, Meshuggah and some of the ambient tracks from Quake (again with our friend Trent Reznor). It does the job but I can't help but think it's a bit by the numbers and getting musicians from those disciplines would've given it a bit more kick.

Howver, I'm having a blood lovely time with this. At this rate, I'm starting to think Bethesda are a better publisher than a developer but there you go. Of course there's only one more thing to say:

Re: Sony Gives Its E3 2016 PlayStation Press Conference a Time and Date

Churchy

Ah, the thing is I'll be flying out later that morning to Berlin. So, I can get ludicrously tired and watch it, or I can check updates later on in the day.

Considering that I skipped last year when THAT press conference happened, I'm prepared to be grouchy for a day and temporarily sabotage my mental health - especially considering that I'm pretty f*cking sure a Crash remake will be announced.

Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Uncharted 4 on PS4?

Churchy

Had a raz on my friend's copy a few days ago. Oh dear God it's glorious.

The controls feel smooth and fluid, the transition between cutscenes and gameplay is totally seamless, the script is fantastic and intriguing, the visual style is wonderful, and technically it's pretty much flawless.

I need to play through this series. Also, I have to go there: it's more fun than Last of Us. This is wonderful.

Re: The Witcher 3 Dev: We Shouldn't Shy Away from Adult Themes in Games

Churchy

I agree with them 100%. I find it funny that people are often find more offence in fictitious works than they do about the horrible that things that happen in real life, usually atrocities put in motion by their own government. And what's funnier is sometimes the expectation that people believe something shouldn't exist purely because it offends their own personal sensibilities.

But in this particular case, move on - nothing to see here.

Re: Everything You Need to Know About Battlefield 1 on PS4

Churchy

@Rudy_Manchego It's cool to know that you have a lot of knowledge about the Great War, and interesting that you did your thesis on Gallipoli - that campaign was horrible for all those involved (and one of Winston Churchill's organisational failings that often goes unremembered). Also, the Mel Gibson question is one we all have to ask at sometime.

Also, I think your point is interesting as it did make me think and you're clearly level headed about which is great. From my standpoint I feel that it's not really a game's job to do that (which is of course up for debate) and I feel that educational institutions are more suited to that... and perhaps Blackadder Goes Forth...

Either way, I'm interested to see what direction it goes in. Although I have a feeling Valiant Hearts will be the more informative and contemplative of the two!

Re: Everything You Need to Know About Battlefield 1 on PS4

Churchy

You had my attention, now you have my curiosity. So far this looks really promising, and the idea of going to different locations in World War 1 sounds intriguing. It looks as though they may feature the lesser known battles involving Africa, the Ottoman Empire and Mesopotamia.

I'll need to see gameplay, but I'm definitely interested in this.

@BAMozzy @Rudy_Manchego The image of the trenches was only one part of what happened on the Western Front, let alone the whole war. On the Western Front alone, you had the race to the sea, capturing naval bases, fighting in towns and cities (Verdun being a famous one), naval battles like Jutland and air raids on British soil. That's before you consider the fighting in other places like Turkey, Mesopotamia, the Balkans and Africa (due to the colonies the larger powers owned).

Also, World War 1 wasn't conscripted to begin with. Because of the imperialist attitude of the time, British conscription didn't start until 1916 as everyone signed up thinking they would be heroes and didn't know any better.

Yes, it was an unimaginably horrible war fought for frankly stupid reasons. I have many personal attachments to it, but I feel that a game like this won't have a negative impact. There is far too much information out there. And besides, we haven't seen it yet. Of course, if you disagree, that's fine. These are just a few points I thought I'd put forward.

Re: Video: Is Max Payne Still on Target on PS4?

Churchy

@themcnoisy Obviously it's just my opinion, but all of the features that @sub12 has mentioned are pretty much why it's a bad port: down-graded graphics, long loading screens, loading screens that weren't there before, and a fiddly control scheme.

Also, you can't save wherever you want like the PC version, and the graphic novel text has been replaced by awful Ariel font with a grey background.

Re: Review: Hitman: Episode 2 - Sapienza (PS4)

Churchy

It's nice to know this is shaping up nicely. But the real question is, are the Chuckle Brothers involved?

@get2sammyb I know the feeling - but I'm not going to break, I'm waiting until the whole package is done.

Re: Poll: Do You Want More Family Friendly Platformers on PS4?

Churchy

I miss 3D platformers a lot. We've had some great 2D ones in recent years with the likes of Shovel Knight, Rayman Origins/Legends and Super Meat Boy, but it's time for 3D to return.

Of course, Yooka Laylee should be out within the next year so I'm hoping that'll be another great title. Of course, an exclusive for PS4 would be great too!

Re: Hands On: Is Nioh on PS4 a Cut Above Its Competitors?

Churchy

Overall, Nioh is actually really promising. I found myself becoming a lot more wise to enemies as I played, and with the likes of the spear, I was able to fend off 2/3 enemies simultaneously.

And the things that distinguish it from being a complete Souls rip-off is the skill tree system and the stances when it comes to combat. It really opens it up and allows for more possibilities.

Although having said that, the most annoying thing about enemies is that they all behave in exactly the same way: run straight in your direction and kick the snot out of you. They feel less like real enemies and more like drones hell bent on destroying you, but they all feel the same regardless of weapon or type.

And the level design feels very linear at the moment, and that leads to a sense of frustration as it doesn't feel like there are many options to take if you're finding a route difficult.

Even so, I think it's shaping up to be an entertaining romp - let's just hope the technical aspects get cleaned up and that things become more varied in terms of enemy behaviour and type.

I'm definitely excited to see how it develops.

Re: Soapbox: Sony Needs to Set the Record Straight on PS4K Soon

Churchy

I respectfully disagree.

Firstly, I think Easy Allies hit the nail on the head when they theorised this being a controlled leak of information. I personally agree with them on that one, but even if it isn't I think Sony should wait.

The two things Sony have right now are the most important: mystery and people's attention. Even if people are angry or fuming, everyone is watching them right now. And in 2 months (which isn't that long of a wait), they can react to what's going on and figure that into how they sell it to everyone come E3. If they came out now with some sort of statement now, it would be rushed, it would probably flop and it would destroy that sense of mystery.

At E3 however, they not only can give the information on the hardware, but they can put it all into context with other software, the base PS4 console, VR and everything else. To truly sell it, only a longer conference can do that - by preparing this now, they can answer everyone's questions that have built up.

With the Xbox One build up, I'd say the largest thing that went against it was purely the fact that the original ideas driving the console were just awful - if that had come out and was the best thing since sliced bread, everyone would've forgotten their grievances.

Obviously, like anything - it depends on the delivery and what this thing is fully, but I think waiting will be more beneficial in the long run, because right now everyone has one question: "What is going on?". And as long as you have that question, you have everyone's attention. People have changed their minds in the past and gotten over grievances if the right kind of idea is being spread.

If E3 were say 7/8 months away, I might feel differently. But it isn't, it's 2. And that's not a long time away. And with potential rivals in the form of Nintendo, going pound for pound is the best strategy.
