Re: Video: Crash Bandicoot's First PS4 Appearance Looks Awesome

Churchy

@BLPs Oh definitely. Although I feel that way, the announcement was a little odd. I think they may have wanted to soften the blow just so they didn't get a huge amount of hate. It seemed like it was "Hey don't worry guys it is actually coming - we've just got to show you this." It was the only part of this year's E3 presser that was a bit of a downturn.

Re: Video: Crash Bandicoot's First PS4 Appearance Looks Awesome

Churchy

The interesting thing is that Vicarious Visions have done Crash games before. They did the Crash games on GBA which were great overall. The first one was essentially a mix-mash of 2 and 3 on the GBA, and it was great!

@BLPs If anything I'd actually say the opposite. I think Sony wanted to do the remasters, but Skylanders essentially became a bargaining chip. Well I'd like to believe that anyway!

Re: Guide: Everything You Need to Know About Gamescom 2016

Churchy

@MinerWilly Like Sammy said it is a public event so anyone can go. However, because I'm going as press this year I've been able to book appointments and play test certain things in specific business areas. As it's my first time as press, I cannot report how glamourous it is (or not). Only time will tell!

I don't work for Push Square but I've done some things for Nintendo Life and other mags like Retro Gamer, so that's what got me in!

@JoeBlogs You are right my home-canine. Many a silly person did get shards of metal launched into their anal region.

Re: Guide: Everything You Need to Know About Gamescom 2016

Churchy

I'm reading this from my Cologne hotel room, ready to start Gamescom tomorrow! I would initially be upset about missing a press conference, but then it's EA's. And they're always car crashes of the most hilarious kind. I'll should be joining chat for that one.

I bet 7 pence that there will be some hip hop played over footage of Battlefield 1, because if there's anything I loved most about the First World War, it was the hip-hop.

Re: Gamescom 2016: Battlefield 1's New PS4 Trailer Looks Unbelievable

Churchy

I was really excited for Battlefield 1, but the more I see from it, the more cynical I'm getting. I can't help but feel they're missing an opportunity to capture a unique feeling with the setting, but right now it feels like it's Battlefield but with a different skin - just like Star Wars Battlefront.

And these trailers, can they please stop using bad remixes of famous music and just use original music that fits the purpose? The way EA are marketing this just rubs me up the wrong way completely.

Re: Review: No Man's Sky (PS4)

Churchy

This is a great review. I personally love the game but what you've done is put across what type of game it is and who is going to enjoy it. I'm under no delusions about what type of game it is. It's a particular type of game which will appeal to a certain type of player (more so than usual releases).

You've gone in balancing everything which is always nice. It's what a review should do: people who read it will think "that's my sort of game" or "this really isn't my sort of game". Good work Stephen!

Re: Soapbox: No Man's Sky on PS4 Is the Biggest Disappointment of 2016

Churchy

If people don't like it, that's absolutely fine. And people should have the opportunity to express their opinion fairly. This is just where we part ways Sammy!

Whilst the game isn't perfect and does have its flaws, the things it does do well feel really great. One of the main things is just about getting fun from exploring and discovering. Whether it's learning an alien language, learning the history of the universe and the races that inhabit it, fighting off enemy pilots in deep space, f*cking up the sentinels or using the pulse thrust - I find myself just enjoying the journey.

The idea of it having a "point" (or no point) I think is more illustrative of how arbitrary gaming has become in some circles. Why should someone collect a bunch of flags just so they can get a non-existent trophy or achievement? What's the point there?

As for the needing to refuel things, I like that element. It makes you work for something, and makes you realise that if you don't keep those things stocked up, you will be stranded or eventually die - and that's the reality for any form of explorer.

I think the important thing to remember is that Hello Games have tried to do something different and ambitious. And regardless of how people feel about it now, it was a title that held a lot of intrigue and generated a lot of buzz and discussion. It's still doing that now, and I think it's important to have games that fulfill that.

Just my two pence.

Re: Guide: 10 No Man's Sky PS4 Tips for Beginner Space Explorers

Churchy

Before encountering any aliens. Hunt for monoliths and learn words from their language, it'll make talking and trading with them a lot easier. You'll get a lot of rewards from being in a particular race's good books.

Also, hunt for monoliths from beacons. Often you'll find larger monoliths that allow for several words to be learned and a choice that can give you further rewards if you select the right option.

Re: No Man's Sky's Day One PS4 Patch Changes the Entire Universe

Churchy

Great news! Also, I thought I'd say thanks for providing the info but not going into spoiler territory. I know I was being a miserable b*astard (not sure if that constitutes swearing or not here!) on the leaked copy, but I thought I'd say you guys got the balance spot on with this slice of news.

Now I'm super hyped to play this. It's going to be amazing. Mark my intergalactic words!

Also, the guy who bought the leaked copy now just looks like a muppet!

Re: Hitman's Bangkok Episode Solves a Push Square Mystery

Churchy

@BLPs It's definitely a Montague/Capulet situation with those towers.

As for Square Enix. Their marketing department seems spot on this year. First the Chuckle Brothers, now this slice of coolness.

Do you think it's worth holding out for the full release, or are the live targets and other aspects worth the purchase now?

Re: Soapbox: You Shouldn't Feel Bad for Liking Destiny

Churchy

I know Destiny's really not my thing, but if people want to enjoy it go for it. Even if I do show negativity towards something, I'd like to think I keep it housed to myself. I certainly don't think anyone should feel bad because they like a game (except Sonic 06).

Hell the amount of conversations I've had with randoms who enjoy Candy Crush is through the digital roof, but I wouldn't go out and say "oh, that's sh*t" or "you shouldn't play this".

But there ya go!

Re: Kojima Productions' Logo Now Has Action Figures As Well

Churchy

With the sh*t that Kojima went through at Konami, he could release a photo album of himself naked with the words "I'm the best game dev ever." painted over his body in blood and I'd still think: "Fair enough - he's had it rough recently."

@BLPs You don't happen to work for Konami do you?

Re: Sonic Sprints onto PS4 in Two New Games

Churchy

Although announcing two different games is a good idea, I'm finding it hard to care about either of these games at the minute.

Sonic Mania at this point seems a little pointless, looking like it's going to be an exact replica of Mega Drive Sonic - when we've been able to play those games for years.

And the new Sonic game looks like it's going to be Generations 2 when it'd be nice to see something fresh, but it's still early days.

I guess I'd feel a bit better about the latter if it were fresh team of people overseeing the direction of the 2017 game, and Sonic had been gone for a lot longer. But then there is the fact that no matter what Sonic does, people will be unhappy. I guess I just don't have faith in the people who've been in charge for quite a while now.

I seriously hope I'm wrong on both accounts. But I have a feeling this is a new round of the Sonic cycle.

Re: Telltale's Batman Peeks Behind the Cowl from 2nd August on PS4, PS3

Churchy

Hmm, I'm not sure what to make of this. I've been hoping for a more detective based game with a mystery to solve (ala The Long Halloween) and I'm not sure this will be that. I've always liked Kevin Conroy's idea that Bruce Wayne is the mask, and Batman is the real person.

I'll definitely give the first episode a crack, but they can f*ck right off with that stupid disc idea though.

Re: Poll: Will You Pay Full Price for Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4?

Churchy

I think people are making a mountain out of a molehill here - especially as all of the details aren't even known yet! I also think there is something to be said for putting a decent value on your game, and showing that it's worth this price point. Plus, this kind of thing used to happen a lot of the time back in the 90s, so it's no skin off my nose.

If anything, the bigger issue is that this year has been insane for great releases, and will continue to be so. So I doubt a little money off would make people buy this over other titles coming out anyway.

And with Uncharted 4 being as well loved as it is, I doubt people will be that bothered!

Re: Review: Ghostbusters (PS4)

Churchy

This review is a work of art seriously. Well done @johncalmc! This had me laughing out loud constantly, reminding of some of the reviews you'd get in N64 and NGC magazine. Brilliant.

Re: Talking Point: Will No Man's Sky Live Up to the Hype on PS4?

Churchy

Yes, yes it will.

For the most part. Those who are disappointed will only be so because of what they've projected onto the game. I have a feeling a lot of other critics are going to want to tear it apart because of the ridiculous expectations they've placed upon it, ending a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But I'm sure the likes of Push Square and Easy Allies will give it a balanced review. Either way, I'm going to have a f*cking blast!

Re: Review: The Banner Saga 2 (PS4)

Churchy

@wariowarewolf I hate to break it to you, but that is a major spoiler.

I loved the first game, but I felt the second loses it's way in terms of narrative pacing, especially at the end. The climax that built up at the end of the game is non-existent in the second, and playing as Bolverk didn't really have the same draw as other characters emotionally.

It's still good, just not as good.

Re: Popular PlayStation Suit Adam Boyes Is Leaving Sony

Churchy

That's quite a big loss for Sony. He worked really hard, listened to gamer communities and was responsible for a lot of cool games and surprises, including the deal to get Shenmue III on PS4 and Super Star Wars. Total legend.

However, as a creative person, I can understand his wish to switch into game development. Observing and supporting the work of others is fun for a while, but the creative beast is always calling. I'll look forward to what he does in a dev role, wherever his games end up.

Re: Review: Resident Evil 5 (PS4)

Churchy

@Utena-mobile If I can help add to your imagery, I remember first going to Comic Con in London when the VO for Chris in Resi 5 was in a panel.

There were about 6 different Chris Redfield's lined up near me. I shall let you create your own scenario on that one.
