I got the chance to play this at Gamescom last year. The fighting system is quite fluid and in some ways reminiscent of the fighting found in the Ubisoft Naruto games on Xbox 360, but with a bit more freedom. Also, the music is lovely and the world seems ridiculously deep.
I'm just glad Nioh got anywhere in the top 10, especially for the type of game that it is.
I must admit, I do love GTA V, but it would be nice if another game took the number 1 spot. I guess we'll have to wait until Red Dead Redemption 2 for that one. Perhaps we should take bets as to what will knock it off the number spot?
Always nice to see a porn reference at the start of a review. But seriously, Sniper Elite is a series I've wanted to dip my toes into so I might just do it this time around!
The weird thing is you'd be surprised at just how many sealed copies of PS2 games still exist. I managed to find sealed copies of Okami, Silent Hill Origins, and Haunting Ground. Glad they're out there for Yakuza too!
This month is Nioh for me. That game is going to be gorgeous. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm a little worried about Horizon. I really hope I love it when I played, but something about it makes me feel it'll actually be a little dull to play. But even so, this is a great month all round.
It's awesome to see Yakuza and Kingdom Hearts break into the top ten.
And of course it's great for Resi to be in that position. I wonder if the association with PlayStation in the past has brought back returning players onto the PS4 platform. Either way it's the first time I've been pleased with the series direction since the Remake and Zero.
Although I don't love The Last of Us in the way a lot of other people do, I think that it was announced in the best way. First you have a Naughty Dog game to start so everyone thinks they're only doing that. Then you leave it until the end when everyone thinks you're done. Even then you don't show anything immediately, you have those long shots and wait until the Fireflies symbol can be seen. That's a genius way of doing it.
It definitely is an improvement, no doubt about it. But right now I'm really not fussed, especially not for £350. Obviously there will be further options for how games run with cases like Ni-oh, but when there are no exclusive titles for the platform it isn't worth my money.
And right now, I'd be much more interested in PSVR. And I'm also interested in finding out what the Nintendo Switch can do or what games it will contain. And then there's the possibility there will be another upgrade or Sony platform in a couple of years.
I don't doubt the impressive nature of the upgrade, but I don't feel it would raise my enjoyment of a game that much. And I'd much prefer good solid game design over an upgrade in the visual department.
Other people might see it differently, and that's fine, but it's not for me right now.
I still hold P.T. as one of the best horror games ever. Not only is it just downright scary for a multitude of reasons but it's brilliantly designed on so many levels. Happy Halloween everyone!
Although this was in response to the Bethesda issue, it's great to see you guys have such a principled review policy, especially when it comes to strange things like review events.
I think it's smart for you guys not to review a debug code. Often there are lots of bugs that companies promise will be sorted, but then it ends up differently (and with Bethesda's in-house developed games that's a common occurrence!)
The only outlets I visit regularly are Push Square, Nintendo Life and Easy Allies. And they often do reviews after the fact. But I actually like it that way. It feels more measured and sensible.
And in odd cases like Dragonball Xenoverse 2 where some aspects were held back, I could still get a feel for the game and whether I would want it from what was already written.
@Napples Aha, I see. Thanks for the info on that one. I guess it was the fact that YouTubers got copies that made me think that way. The fact that Kotaku praised it is hilarious, and I'm glad Bethesda has written them off. I think I should do the same!
@Flaming_Kaiser I would agree that Bethesda's games are shaky (but they are fun at least!) but I was playing devil's advocate a little, as I thought it might be part of a bigger picture. But Napples has cleared that up so it's probably for a few different reasons. It's a shame with all of this because Bethesda have great ideas and clearly a lot of passion, but the technical aspects just don't come off.
I just wanted to ask: when it says you "may" receive a small percentage, is this something that is guaranteed for you guys or do they need to meet a certain quota? And is the percentage fixed or is it variable?
I'd hate to pre-order thinking I'm helping you guys out and then you don't get anything. I'd prefer just giving to a Patreon instead if guys needed an extra few quid in the coffers.
In Bethesda's case, I wonder if it's sites like Kotaku that have made them take a stance like this, especially considering the whole Fallout 4 thing. Let's face it, the quality of gaming journalism is not in a great place overall right now. Though the reasoning behind this is just a guess.
Bear in mind, I'm writing this here - a good site!
I don't care if it's called John Marston's Whacky Horse Simulator 2017. It's coming baby!!!
But just to up the pedantic stakes, couldn't it be called Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead 3 and both be correct? It's the second Red Dead Redemption but the third game with the Red Dead name!
If anything I'm much more warm towards it. And I might jump in, but not right now. This is the case for VR across the board, not just PSVR, but I want to wait a little for kinks to be ironed out and for some new games to arrive. Any VR headset is expensive and with what is available at the moment I feel that waiting a little bit longer is best for me right now.
Nevertheless, I'm keeping an eye on things and playing on other people's headsets where I can. But I can't justify the price tag for what's available right now.
@Anchorsam_9 No worries, you've done a good job reviewing this series so far (and episodic stuff is hard to review bit-by-bit). Another factor is that Absolution had me petrified about this new release, and also there's been so much stuff coming out this year. So I observed this game like a curious school boy looking over his creepy next door neighbour's fence.
Oh for f*ck's sake! That's a more jovial utterance from me but this is just bloody ridiculous, largely because every other f*cker is doing it. I understand it but does everyone need to delay things.
Although on the plus side, 2017 is a going to be off to a great start. I feel I may have to install a toilet next to my sofa as it's clear I won't have time to go to the toilet with all these games.
@Anchorsam_9 Hey Sam, been meaning to respond. Your reviews have definitely convinced me of the quality, it's more just me being a stickler for physical releases if they're available that's had me on the fence.
Also, I haven't got much room left on my hard-drive at the moment so waiting for the physical release might be better. But you can bet your arse I'm getting that day one when it's released, thanks to your reviews!
What the bloody hell even is this?! Although to be fair, Mafia III has the same levels of incongruence. For example, the ability to call a weapons dealer from almost any point on the map, even though it's set in the bloody sixties.

I'm as happy as Noel Edmonds opening red boxes.

Re: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Body Slams onto PS4 This Summer
The real question is: who won the aforementioned Custard Cream from the last article?

I think we should be in for a real treat.
Re: Crash Bandicoot PS4 Release Date Teased for Tomorrow
If they're announcing it now, I'd say that it'll be released before E3.
May 26th.
I shall prepare my biscuit tin.

Great to see some more stuff from Yooka Laylee. I'm a back for a PS4 digital copy so I will be pleased when this arrives on my doorstep!

@PaperyWhiteBoy I managed to sneak a copy out of Naughty Konami's office.

Playing a mix of Crash Bandicoot 2 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I came late to the party on the latter.

About time!
I was thinking of even upgrading to Pro or paying a huge amount for another internal HDD, but I'll just get an external HDD now! Huzzah!

Nice Spandau Ballet reference there.
Re: Here's Your Latest Look at Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4
@kyleforrester87 This might be me getting overexcited, but I think we might even have a release date as well, at least for the first part anyway.
Re: Here's Your Latest Look at Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4
I'd wager this will be an E3 thing. I could be wrong of course as Square are trying to make sure their RPGs all get a chance to shine equally.

Re: Talking Point: What Free PlayStation Plus Games Do You Want in February 2017?
To be honest, with Nioh and For Honor coming out within a week of each other, I'll be lucky if I find time to urinate. So I'm cool whatever happens!

The last Resi video clip suggested something in early December so it would make sense.

Re: Sony's Nioh PS4 Exclusive Marketing Has Started Already
I've been in for Ni-oh since playing the alpha. I decided to have a taste of the Beta but then switched it off so I could enjoy the full game more.
I'm seriously excited for this. It's going to be incredible. Mark my words.
