Re: E3 2016: Don't Hold Out for VR Pornography on PS4

Churchy

It's a shame, as I do enjoy a spot of beating around the bush.

But seriously, porn is already on other devices already so I doubt they're too bothered. And it makes sense for Sony not to officially allow it as it opens a whole can of worms on things like parental controls and what not.

But I still don't understand why porn is seen by some as a taboo subject. A lot of people enjoy sex and porn (I say most because asexuality is also a thing) so I've never understood why people call each other dirty. If anything the word "dirty" is a compliment.

Even so, I'm not particularly bothered about porn VR - I've got my own gloriously filthy imagination already.

Re: Soapbox: Let's Be Honest, E3 2016 Was Disappointing

Churchy

I thought it was a good E3 overall, judging mainly on the games available outside the conferences as well, and those soon incoming. I know I'd definitely want to buy God of War, For Honor, Last Guardian, Resident Evil VII (and maybe even VR with it!), South Park, Grow Up, Detroit, Dishonored 2 and Cuphead.

And then there are some titles that it's too early to tell like Death Stranding and Days Gone, but I'm very interested in seeing their development.

Re: E3 2016: Sony's Surprised Microsoft Announced Xbox Scorpio Over a Year Ahead of Time

Churchy

This isn't meant to sound tribal but the lack of details on the Scorpio had me shrugging my shoulders, especially when they built it up so much. They basically said: "We're doing another console and it's going to be great." Which is what everyone would've assumed anyway.

Also, with Xbox One no longer having any exclusives (it shares everything with Windows 10), it just made me think that this might happen with Scorpio too. If so, I might as well buy a PC as it would seem pointless to own one.

Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite PS4 Game at E3 2016?

Churchy

This is a tough choice, but I went for Resi 7 purely because of how unexpected it was, along with a complete change in perspective and gameplay approach.

But alongside that it would be God of War, South Park, Last Guardian, For Honor and Detroit.

Re: E3 2016: We Came So Close to Getting an Egyptian God of War

Churchy

Whilst an Egyptian setting would be interesting, I think Norse mythology is a better call. There are aspects of the folklore and the setting that feel a lot harsher and colder than other mythologies.

God of War really blew me away. I'm not huge into the series but it's great they're shaking it up and looking at more character depth within their narrative. Bring it on!

Re: Feature: All the E3 2016 Press Conferences Rated and Reviewed

Churchy

I would ask everyone not to talk about who "won" E3, I think using that phrase is a little trivial. However, here are my grades:

Bethesda: B-
Ubisoft: C
Microsoft: C
Sony: A
EA: Participation award.

I do find it funny that Sony seemed to show more game footage of anything Star Wars than EA did.

Re: E3 2016: Resident Evil 7 Will Scare You Silly On PS4 With VR

Churchy

@VanillaLake I think what was great about it was the fact that there was no fanfare, they just played another video: a great cryptic horror game filled with atmosphere and building tension. All the time I was thinking - this is great, I wonder what this is?

Then it pulled out revealed VII in Roman numerals, and then the rest of the title came in. I started cheering and then crying.

Re: E3 2016: Resident Evil 7 Will Scare You Silly On PS4 With VR

Churchy

This was the best part of the conference for me. They seem to be taking Resi back to its horror roots and completely changing the dynamic of it. Resi needed it and I'm seriously excited about this. Of course, I'm going on holiday now so won't get to play the demo, but I can live with that.

Moment of speculation: Guillermo Del Toro and/or Junji Ito is involved. They were both working on Silent Hills and I thought just maybe...

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony PlayStation's E3 2016 Press Conference Deliver?

Churchy

It was a fantastic conference and the best one of E3. That Resi 7 reveal threw me for a loop in the best possible way, and they're actually giving me a reason to look into VR now. Also, God of War looked fantastic, it was great to see Kojima, The Last Guardian has a release date, and the orchestra was a nice touch.

The only things that stopped it from being perfect were mentioning Crash and not showing it, and having the Daysgone demo at the end. That's a really strange choice. But overall, it was another awesome E3 for Sony and they f*cking smashed it!

And that orchestra.

Re: Round Up: What Did Bethesda Announce At Its E3 2016 Press Conference?

Churchy

It wasn't as good as last year's, but I thought it was a good conference. In the time it took EA to even show a game, Bethesda showed at least 4 - one of which was a new Quake game in the vein of Quake 3: Arena. Also, Bethesda are having a stab at VR, which is a really interesting announcement.

I think you guys might be a little over critical of this one.

Re: E3 2016: Crash Bandicoot's Probably Going to Be in Skylanders: Imaginators

Churchy

Just wait guys, just wait.

Square have already done this with the FFVII remake. Firstly, they announced the remaster on PC when everyone thought it was a remake, then they came back 6 months later. Even then, they put World of Final Fantasy before it.

Let's wait and see what happens. In the age of leaks, it might be that companies are getting wise. If a new game does happen, it'd be the best double swerve possible.

Re: Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards Will Return on 1st December

Churchy

@Napples I'm not really a Geoff Keighley fan so to speak, but that moment was actually rather uncharacteristic of him. He usually tows the more straight business like approach, but he has been friends with Kojima for a long time and it seemed like an actual genuine moment. And considering the sh*t that Konami have been pulling, that was a refreshing moment.

Re: Reaction: Sony Was Right to Reveal PS4K Prior to E3 2016

Churchy

I think it's a smart move. Either this, or they address it quickly in the press conference and move on. Treating it as a special thing or the best news ever (as many companies like to do) would be a bad move. I just hope they don't save VR until last. Just put a little bit of it in, then move on and end on something like Crash.

Re: There's Mounting Speculation That Knack's Coming Back

Churchy

The only way I can see this gaining favour is if the following occurs:

Mark Cerny comes out and says: "Yeah, Knack was a bit naff. But we're actually going to make it decent. Roll the trailer!" A good trailer follows.

Then Mark Cerny comes out and says: "Also, we got this thing which I used to work on before I discovered the secret of eternal youth." A ridiculously good Crash Bandicoot trailer rolls. Everyone loses their minds. Mark Cerny cries a singular tear onto his left cheek.

Re: Here's Your First Look at Watch Dogs 2 on PS4

Churchy

I'm glad that Ubisoft® has shown us this special trailer® of Watch Dogs 2®. It gives us real insight® into what they attend to do in the game® - Rayban®s or no Rayban®s.

And if you'll excuse me I'm just going to have a word with the Fine Bros®.

@ekreig That had me laughing for a long time. Poor Adam.

Re: Rumour: Dead Rising 4 Leaks, But May Be Skipping PS4

Churchy

Dead Rising 1 - forgivable for its time due to the concept and that nothing like it had been done at the time.

Dead Rising 2 - a fantastic sequel with all of the issues smoothed out, and a main character who had a real motivation to get behind.

After that, there really isn't much point. I'm not so bothered by this.

Re: Learn Why Shenmue Is Held in Such High Regard

Churchy

Whilst this is a good video, it only focuses on the technical elements of the game. Aside, from being a technical achievement, Shenmue did a lot of great things in terms of narrative, player progression, gameplay variation, and capturing a specific time period as well as a martial philosophy.

The way in which you are left to drive the narrative forward as a player is simply brilliant, having to find every breadcrumb you can and putting things into motion yourself. And the game opens on a huge event, leaving you with so many questions as to what's happening. It's a traditional epic narrative that is simply enthralling from start to finish.

Also, you have the different modes of gameplay including Virtua Fighter-esque combat, training, a stealthy levelling up system, free exploration, quick time event cutscenes, and specific gameplay modes when getting a job.

With it's technical achievements it is impressive, but with a game that captures an intangible spirit of martial arts and 80s Japan, backed up by a great narrative, it becomes magical.

And yes, I cried when number 3 was announced. In fact I needed a new carpet.

Re: Talking Point: Was Sony's E3 2015 Presser Really the Greatest Ever?

Churchy

It truly was incredible. But it wasn't just the games announced, it was the way the announcements were made and structured. It was just pure f*cking class all the way, making the audience guess even when trailers were being shown. It was awesome.

In terms of good conferences Sony and Bethesda came out on top.
