Ghost of Tsushima set the bar so damn high for this type of game, that this looks like it was developed as a generic Ubisoft title by comparison.

@NeonPizza Ugh, yeah, jeez for $2000 I'll just upgrade my TV, which I just did two months ago to a 4K 120Hz set, which is quite nice. No medieval torture required. 😉😂
Aside from a PC upgrade which I plan to do at some point, the only new/future gaming hardware on my radar is Switch 2.

For me it's unnecessary, as I actively use my Switch, which runs games natively, whereas Portal doesn't; its biggest flaw. Plus I don't have to share a TV with anyone, so I'd almost never use it at home. 🤷‍♂️

As I predicted. PSVR2 was not going to succeed at that price.

Seriously I don't know what it is about Square. I've been playing a little bit of the original Kingdom Hearts (for the First Time) recently, and it's just pure frustration. I played Final Fantasy 1 and 2 dawn of Souls on the GBA back in the day; 1 was... fine, nothing special. 2 was better, but the new underworld area for the deceased characters had me so weak and underleveled, and there was nowhere to heal as I tried to explore, so I gave up.

I think perhaps only Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore are the two square games I've played thus far that I actually really liked. I didn't even get to finish Mana, for personal reasons unrelated to the game. 😢

Kingdom Hearts reminds me why I don't generally play square games, at least not modern FF titles. I remember buying Crystal Chronicals for GameCube, and that was garbage.

@Icey664 Personally I'm more interested in articles that review the game based on its merits, not relying on sex appeal exclusively to build hype. The game may end up being mediocre, which should be any gamers primary concern. If one wants T&A, there's a very inviting ocean of porn online for that, which I have no issues with. 😉

Games like this just make me continually question why can't we have a modern, pure vehicular combat game, like Vigilante 8 or Twisted Metel? 😢

Sony's recent statement of no new established 1st party franchise titles until 2025 is even more apparent now.

The only ones I don't feel sorry for are the fanboys who, up until last year, defended Sony to the death, while crapping on the competition for their various troubles.

@XenonKnight Indeed, hence why I haven't upgraded my desktop in many years is cause of cost. Some video cards alone are around 2K for optimum performance, although it is possible to get decent gaming computers for less than that. I grew up as a console gamer so I still like them, and their ease of use and relatively low entry cost are more reasons why they remain popular. I wouldn't hold my breath for a Vita 2 though. Between the Switch 2, Steamdeck and simular devices, and Sony trying to keep PSVR2 afloat, I think a Vita 2 would be severely undersupported.

@NeonPizza Yeah I hear what you're saying. I've been vocal on my disappointment of PS5 this gen, though not for VR-related reasons, but for some I can understand that point. With more and more Sony's games heading to PC anyway like you said, a trend which is likely to continue and probably into the PS6 generation as well, one could just get a powerful PC and enjoy the best exclusives from Sony and MS under one roof, plus get Nintendo's next system and have access to essentially everything, lol.

@XenonKnight Well they did announce a few VR titles in the recent State of Play. It's very clear that sales of VR2 have trailed far behind the original PSVR (costing more money than the console required to use it on doesn't help). I think within the next year we'll know fully for sure what it's future is.

Personally I'm not buying into any of this VR stuff, even though I would like to try it out. It just seems like it's too expensive and the applications, from a gaming context, are too limiting. Anything first person is a no-brainer, like RE 7 & 8, but beyond that..? 🤷‍♂️
Maybe it has a nice 3d effect for other types of games, but then at that point I would argue why can't we just bring 3D televisions back, but go one Step Beyond and have a glasses-free, 3DS-like experience in our living room on a 70 inch screen? I would freaking love that, and no bucket strapped to the head required, lol.

PSVR2 support is finally coming to PC. This just suddenly made the future of it a lot more viable.

@__jamiie We were marketed 1080P/60FPS with PS3/360, and that didn't happen either. Usually 720P/30FPS at best was the norm. At this point, whatever marketing says, drop down 1 notch below that, for a more reasonable expectation.

@ZhuckelDror So... they didn't come 10 years ago, but we have them now. That's hardly a negative. Better late than never.

Most remasters turn out fine, like Metroid Prime or TLoU 1 & 2.

It can very difficult dealing with original hardware, considering its age, finding working controllers, memory cards, TV's or converter boxes to connect them to modern TV's, etc.

We get a plethora of dozens of new games every month, across all platforms. It's a welcome treat to see these old classics given a facelift and re-released in the modern era.

I'll never understand the mentality behind the hatred for these retro HD releases. Absolutely bizzare. 🤷‍♂️

@pyrrhic_victory As an Xbox fan, I was never celebrating the "demise", of Sony. I'm a fan of Sony too, albiet a very critical one. I want PS to do better, just like I wanted Xbox to do better after ruining their brand with Don Matrick in 2013. I want more hardware in the market and serious competition.

Microsoft has been giving people less of less of a reason to buy an Xbox for years. Competition is good for the industry. I don't wanna be limited to only Sony hardware. This is really sad. Microsoft has been playing defense for 10 years ever since Don Matrick made an ass of himself in 2013. To make that huge Activision buyout, have a great recent developer showcase with Kojima, only to announce this? What a stab in the back to Xbox fans.

Focus on PS5, Sony. PSVR2 isn't doing that great, and we're only now really getting into the current generation. Another dedicated Sony handheld would not perform well, given how they sent Vita out to die with little support.

As I said right from the beginning, for an accessory that's costs more than console required to play it (lol), and the mixed messaging of Sony wanting gamers to go both 4K and VR, psvr2 was not going to succeed.

@thefourfoldroot1 I've been gaming since maybe 1991-92, and I've never heard the term "trophy campaign". 😕 That's just.. Eww. Sounds like achievement farming. These things became lazy digital dopamine trinkets that prioritize wasting time all too often; "shoot 100 birds", or "throw 200 bottles". Lame. I'd turn them off if I could. The worst offendes are beating games (like A Way Out) and not even getting a trophy for it. 🤦‍♂️

I've been saying this for years. 100%. Indies, big budget, GamePass, PS+, Freebies, crazy discounts, to name a few, the amount of games we have is absolutely mind boggling. Too many games, not enough money or time for all of them. Thus, the market suffers.

Plenty of titles, cheaper prices, backward compatible, many with free upgrades, it's not surprising at all, Sammy.

@Bez87 They didn't. LRG are liars. There's never any indication their digital titles will be pulled down, especially with only 5 days warning. There's also the Scott Pilgrim fiasco mentioned above.
They also lied about Go! Go! Kokopolo being the final 3DS physical release, then they teased another 3DS game on Twitter in early 2023.

@Art_Vandelay Necessary for who, though? It's great for later adopters, but I've had my original launch day PS4 since 2013 and I can still enjoy using it, without having to buy a second PS5 for my living and bedroom. The PS4 Pro, for what it offered/cost of entry, was not too impressive for me, what with PS5 around the corner at the time. We're seeing the PC market mindset cementing itself in the console space now, to which it'll likely become a staple going forward. At least with Switch it was easy and cheap to buy a second dock, but a $700 second, mid-gen-only console? Ha, yeah as an early adopter, thats a hard no. If my PS5 blew up or was too expensive to repair, sure I'd get it then.

Microsoft still needs to sort out their first party software issues, and I say that as someone who loves the Xbox platform for numerous reasons (like BWC and free cloud saves), and buys most multiplat releases there. Sony has their own software issues too, especially with their GaaS insistence/Naughty Dog fiasco. It won't be fixed this generation, cause as you said, it takes so long to develop these titles, but there's some potential gems on the way like OD, Hellblade 2 and Perfect Dark. Even a mid-gen hardware refresh isn't likely to boost Xbox numbers TOO dramatically, IMO. If Starfield couldn't do it, that ship has likely sailed.

@Art_Vandelay My underlying point was, we have some gamers, hysterical about how underwhelming this gen has been so far, including but not limited to being "held back" by cross gen titles, and now there's rumours of Pro hardware being trotted out again. I just find it ironic. 🙃

Good riddance! Sony's live service attempts are usually terrible. All the time and money wasted on this crap when Naughty Dog could've made Uncharted 5, TLoU 3 or a new IP. GaaS sucks. The market is saturated with them. Sony, focus on Single player content.

It's perfectly called for. MW3 is $90 CDN DLC, priced as a full game, made by a terrible publisher that crunched its workforce to put out a shoddy product.

He didn't attack any one developer. It's a shot at management, cause ultimately they decide, not the low level workers who actually do the work. More of this honesty would be refreshing to see, not just in gaming, but in business in general.
