I have been quite glued to the screen reading everyone's comments and i have to say I love that passion that has been shown from both sides. Say what you will about console wars and fanboyism, but one can clearly see that there is an inner fanboy in all of us, whether you would like to admit it or not. We all have a preference in which one of these two companies we want to see succeed and it is that passion that you have for said company, whichever it may be, that drives these companies to compete for your money and time. It has been quite entertaining and enlightening reading these comments because you can clearly see which person sides with whom.
Congratulations to Microsoft for the successful acquisition. They are providing their loyal fan base with content that will make them happy to be a supporter of Microsoft. It is now up to Sony to determine what logical step is required to not only combat the opposition, but keep their own loyal fan base happy.
Granted they do not have to do much because of how well they have done for the past seven years and how well they still doing. Whether you want to admit it or not Sony, with the PlayStation brand, is the mecca of gaming, have been for the past two decades but it would not hurt for them to do something huge to keep driving this point across to the masses. Not sure if an acquisition as ambitious as this one is imminent or needed, but I will look on with tremendous interest.
@BloodNinja On base PS4 i am not sure. I own a PS4 Pro and it ran flawless for me. The bugs and issues many people write about experiencing I, personally, could not relate to them because I did not encounter any during my playthrough. I went through the game twice.
I played it back in November as well when the physical edition was released so not that long ago.
@wildcat_kickz They recently announced the game has sold over 500,000 copies, making it a resounding success. I am sure this update will add more to the total.
I have the PS4 physical copy and i enjoyed the game immensely, as i do most souls games it seems XD. Cannot wait to get a PS5 in the future and give this game another go with the updates.
The theme song is so nostalgic, it literally brought me so many fond memories of my adolescence growing up with this anime series being such a big part of it. Great trailer.
Sony should release their own PC store/launcher, cut out the middle man as it were. Maybe they will in the future, i am sure people will not mind adding another launcher. I myself use two, steam and GOG for example.
There was an update, a couple of years ago if I recall correctly, that corrected the issue of not being able to buy a PS Plus game you owned through the service, if and when your subscription to said service ended. It basically allowed you to purchase the game, finally correcting that flaw that was associated with PS Plus.
There was even an article about it here on Push Square. So you can lay your fears to rest of this is a worrying issue for you.
I remember reading an interesting article, some time ago, about why Sony does not develop first-person shooters as part of it's first party portfolio. The reason was interesting and based on marketing research i presumed at the time. Basically, it was because it's first person shooter offerings where largely ignored compared to the more popular options available in the market. Titles like Call of Duty, for example, which clearly outsold Sony's offerings. Sony deemed it necessary to use it's resources in other, more successful places as opposed to developing its own titles only for them to fail in the market. That is why they have partnerships put in place, mainly with the third-party publishers and developers, to make PlayStation the home of that particular popular franchise.
If you substitute first-person shooters for JRPG's, to the above example i explained, and you will come to the same conclusion as to why Sony maybe has done this with Japan Studios. The JRPG's that sell are, for example, Final Fantasy and Persona. Both are with companies who have a partnership with Sony to make those franchises be at 'home at PlayStation". So you see, it is kind of the same, Sony spending it's resources on better uses, like partnerships with third-party developers and publishers whose genre of development do better and are more popular than anything Sony would develop. It is pretty smart i think.
But of course this is just an opinion of mine based on the readings i have done, and came to this conclusion. Would be interested if many agreed with me or disagreed with me. Cheers!
Have a feeling the game will do well critically. Commercially, however, is entirely another question. As one can see from reading the comments here in this article, the price tag is just too steep now.
@Ralizah Yes that is what I meant, use their own launcher, and cut out the middle man as it where. I am sure there are challenges to this option but if more Sony titles are going to be playable on PC, i would think Sony would consider it, maybe.
Personally, i am trying to get into PC gaming and am trying to decide if I have the space available for it, or just get a gaming laptop. My question is actually,
What are some of the challenges Sony would face is they just released these games using their own store front?
Would it not be more profitable to just use your own store front on PC, and make the games playable on PC? Or is this what Sony is working towards, as they increased the library of playable PC games?
Believe it or not, i have never played a Ratchet and Clank game before.........ever. Thus, this will be my first game in the series. Looking forward to it.
The vast majority of my favorite game development/publishing companies happen to be Japanese, so this is great news from a personal perspective. As long as these companies keep developing for Playstation, I will keep gaming on PlayStation. Long may it continue.
Truth be told, it has been like these since the PS1 era, and the Nintendo fanboy in me quickly realised PlayStation was a must going forward. As long as Sony does not do anything to alienate Japanese developers (i do not think they are that stupid), PlayStation will always be a must own.
Well since Destruction All Stars will still be the title for PS5 (I do not think they will add a second) I hope the PS4 titles we get are great additions.
Mortal Shell is fantastic. I highly recommend it to those of you who enjoy the "souls-genre." I also think it is a great point of entry for those of you who are disillusioned with the difficulty of the genre, as this game is not as hard as the souls or nioh games for example.
I hope for the Castlevania IP to land in good hands. It is my second most cherished IP in gaming (after The Legend of Zelda). Whomever takes the reigns of the franchise, I hope they have the same admiration for it as many others do.
I am currently playing the original Nier on my PS3, just to get ready for this version which never made it out of Japan. It is my first playthrough of the game, as i have had it for years shrink-wrapped, part of my backlog. Really happy Weiss is the same voice actor, as he is amazing.
I am holding out hoping that Square Enix can produce more of the white snow editions. If any more become available I will per order the game.
Looking forward to it myself. As has everyone I imagine that comes to this website, i know of the praise and accolades this game has earned, so I was super excited when it was announced for the PlayStation.
I started my PS Plus subscription in either 2018 or 2019, i am not really sure, but I am going to guess 2019. So far I have no complaints about the service even though I am sure people subscribed to this service since the PS3 will say it has gone down in value, but I am happy with it and have added to my current subscription. It runs out until 2022 and i might add a couple of years to it since you can get it cheap if you know where to look.
@nessisonett Thanks for reassuring me i bought great games. I am looking forward to my playthrough of them. I might start this weekend if I can finish Horizon Zero Dawn by then but I doubt it.
Last Battlefield game i played was III, and I enjoyed it immensely. I put a ton of hours into it and met many great people online. I am excited to find out more about this upcoming installment since I have skipped each installment after III.
Another one? Amazing but I unfortunately cannot this time. I already bought Metro Redux and Metro Exodus Gold Edition, both of them on sale on PSN, just this past weekend. Excited to try this series i have heard great things about.
PSN sales can be marvelous for every type of gamer. If I had not bought the games mentioned above, i would of bought Tony Hawk's Pro Skater I + II to relive adolescent memories. I hope someone finds something in this sale.
@SilentScorpion_ There is nothing wrong with Darksiders III apart from some technical issues. Other than that, it is a great "souls" game and a worthy inclusion to the series. You get to play as Fury, which is fun.
I love the series and have both I and II on the PS3, but I have to say, i loved III the best. I am a huge fan and admirer of "souls-like" games so I believe that has to be the reason why I love III the most.
You do not need to play the first two games to get into III, though it will help understand the story situation a tad bit. Give it a try.
@HMazzy111 Sony had exclusive rights with MLB for quite some time. Not sure how many years but that is the sole reason it was exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
The contract was about to expire but MLB wanted Sony to release the game on competing platforms if it was to continue with the exclusive rights. Sony agreed and thus retained the rights but at the cost of exclusivity.
@Generik "MLB told Sony this needed to go multiplatform or they would no longer have rights to officially use MLB teams and players. Sony had the option to stop making MLB The Show and another studio would have jumped at the opportunity, or they make the game available on Xbox and presumably PC. Literally no goodwill in this decision on the part of Sony."
100% correct you are as this is literally what happened. Benefits MLB much more to reach a wider audience as possible much more than it does to Sony. Sony had a choice to walk away but did not and agreed to the new contract it signed with MLB. No need to be upset. Business decision that was.
I think also many need to change their definition of what competition is, at least when it comes to this industry. It is not about having a winner and a loser anymore, as it has come to be expected. But maybe I am wrong and simply just talking out of me arse. Interesting times ahead for all of us.
I will double dip and buy Nioh Collection digitally on PS5. Do not own the console and have both games on PS4 but I love Nioh and I want more games to be developed in the franchise.
I voted "no I do not want a PS5" but that is only for the time. I do want a PS5, eventually, but well after a year of release. Maybe even two years after release. I have a massive backlog that needs attention.
Very nice. Will definitely be helpful moving forward. Just added it to my browser bookmarks. Thank you.
Just had a look at Darksiders III, a great game for anyone interested, but unfortunately it did not get the FPS improvement I was hoping for. Still hope it gets a patch to achieve this down the road. It will be a great improvement on a great game.
Love, love Nioh. My favorite new franchise of last generation. In fact, i might seriously double dip and buy the collection to support the franchise and hopefully convince Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja to continue the series ever so further.
@ThaBEN Yes, this franchise is part of the "souls" genre of games. Though it does have differences, the biggest one in my opinion being the combat and overall speed. Nioh's combat is vastly superior to that of any Dark Souls, and it is also faster. Excellent games and you sould definitely give them a try if you have not.
@AhmadSumadi I would be interested to find out who, if anyone, has the rights to the title. I know the studio that developed the game is no more, but I wonder if Sony has the rights to the title.
