@JoeBlogs I think that Cerny initially mentioned the top 100, then went on to say practically all of them. Still, some definitive confirmation would be nice.
Thanks for the article. It'll be interesting to read further on this, as my first thought was how can (what looks to be a storage device) increase the overall TF of the system? My initial thoughts were that it must be something along the lines of DMA, but in a disc form. I'm a bit skeptical about this, therefore, I want to learn more.
*Edit: I've also just realised what date today is.
@NeoTokyo404 'Square Enix and many others [are] giving away free games'
I don't know if you have a PC, but today I got for free, World War Z from the Epic store (whether I'll ever get around to playing it, is another question).
Well, I'm not inclined to go and tell anyone. However, I think that I covered them, and others, when I wrote... 'The organisations which promote this exclusivity nonsense'. The keyword being 'organisations'.
It's about time that all this exclusivity nonsense stopped. All it does is hamper games development within the sector, and causes divisions amongst gamers.
It's looking like developers are responding to their customers, who generally don't care about platform exclusives. The organisations which promote this exclusivity nonsense, only have their own interests at heart, at the expense of the wider gaming community. It's a marketing/business practice which should have died 20 years ago.
@BrettAwesome '"I don't care about exclusives" 😂 well, what if you reeeeeally enjoy a game? Will you loose all interest if you find out it's an exclusive?'
If you had read my earlier comments then you would have read the bit where I wrote... 'I may buy a PS5 later, if anything emerges which might interest me.'
@Jaz007 @Jaz007 'I'm not sure why people think they'll take advantage of the Xbox extra power with how the game looks, but ignore the PS5's power?'
It's not really a case of leaning towards one system or the other, in terms of designing for an advantage. Games are initially designed on PC before being ported to console Dev kits. Cross-platform developers are like running water or electricity. If they can, they'll always take the easiest route. In terms of SSD's & cross-platform titles, once they've nailed their load times on a PC SSD, then that will be the target that they aim for on the console ports.
At the end of the day, the new Xbox will run cross-platform titles better because it's the more powerful of the two machines, in the same way that the PS4 was more powerful than the Xbone and ran cross-platform titles better.
SSD's will be a game changer on all platform systems (PC & Consoles), but only if developers design their game around them (some dev's may not choose this route, as there's a vast market out there with customers who still have mechanical drives on PC). All this Cerny talk regarding the PS5's SSD transfer speed, sounds more like a damage limitation exercise to me. Let's face it, he was never going to stand-up and say we know that our machine is the weaker of the two. He had to say/spin something positive about it.
@Jaz007 'What about the ways that PS5 is more powerful with the SSD and how it has it’s own advantages what we know?'
I don't believe that it will provide an advantage over the new Xbox's SSD when it comes to the usual types of games which I buy, those being generally cross-platform releases. It may provide a benefit for exclusives where developers program specifically for it, but as I mentioned earlier; I don't care about exclusives.
The only thing that would make me consider buying a PS5 after the spec' reveal is the possibility of better PSVR titles. However, I've been waiting for better PSVR titles since I got the headset, so I'm not going to hold my breath.
I don't care about so called exclusives. I jumped from Xbox to PS4 because the PS was the more powerful of the two machines. I'll be jumping back to Xbox this time. I may buy a PS5 later, if anything emerges which might interest me.
'I plan to get both an Xbox Series X and a PS5 on the same day (after both have been released and enough time has passed to discover any potential defects with the systems).'
That's a great approach and I'll probably do something similar. However, the only thing which currently makes me consider the PS5 is PSVR and the hope of better games. However, I'm not a fan of Sony's existing game library and I don't have much faith in the hope that it will substantially change in the future. When it comes to the XSX, that does appeal to me, as faster is usually always better when it comes to performance in games.
Thanks for the article.
I was going to download this on PC, now I'll bung it on the PS4 instead and possibly catch up with my PS4 online buddies for a session or two. However, this will be my first Battle Royale type game experience (I've never been motivated enough to try this type), so I don't know how long this intended session will last.
As it's a motorsport title, I was expecting to read things like; Does the force feedback accurately depict the road conditions? As there was no mention of this, I'll instead ask; Does this title even have force feedback wheel support?
However, after reading the following... ' In terms of performance, the game is mostly fine, running at a steady 30 frames per second', I'm not interested anymore.
@Nyne11Tyme
Hi Nyne, thanks for the reply and yup really. I originally bought PSVR primarily for cockpit based games, such as racing titles, etc (that worked out well, lol). With sim titles being pretty non-existent on PSVR, curiosity got the better of me and I now own over 50 PSVR titles, e.g. I spent £25 quid last week on a new PSVR release, only to get 10 minutes of gameplay before turning it off and saying to myself, "I've just bought another crap game, I should really stop doing this".
I probably rate and play around 10% of my PSVR games. My favourite being DiRT Rally. Things like Astro Bot, which I own, for me, are just utter shite and a complete waste of time (read kids games, although I have nothing against people who do like that kinda stuff). If the PSVR library continues to grow with similar types of games, then I'll most likely continue my VR journey on PC, where there are more titles aimed at my age range, which are also more in-tune with my personal interests.
P.S. 'the cost of entry for PSVR is the most appealing part imo'
I totally agree with you on that. However, the money that I've spent on 'curiosity' PSVR software purchases over the years, could have been better spent on PC hardware, I feel

@Fuzzymonkeyfunk Things like streaming services are different. The reason why streaming services quote download speeds for gaming is due to the amount of data coming from them, down the pipe, to the user. Whereas a traditional online game communicates small amounts of data to and from the server, like user in-game position, actions taken, etc. A streaming service has to supply all the data for the game (like graphics) to the user, instead of reading it off a hard drive and then into memory, thus download speeds are an important factor for streaming. However, they can still be affected by latency if there are several hops to the server destination, in the same way as regular games can be affected.
When it comes to gaming, it's not the download speed that is important, it's the 'ping' speed between hops to the server destination which is the important factor. Most online games typically use data packets of around 250Kb up and 500Kb down for communication. Therefore, it's perfectly feasible to play on a minimum 1Mb ADSL copper wire connection, as long as the ping speed is good. Some ISP's use a different network backbone infrastructure when compared to others. What this means, is that some network providers are better than others when it comes to ping speeds.
Here's a hypothetical example to try and explain what I mean. Provider X has a user in London who wants to connect to a client server in Ireland. The line is routed via 10 hops, say London>Manchester>Ireland. Provider Y has a user in London who wants to connect to a client server in Ireland. However, because Provider Y uses a poor network backbone infrastructure, their connection route from London to Ireland is routed through Iceland, then South America before finally arriving at Ireland and takes around 60 hops. This connection has many more 'hops' between the source and the destination, therefore there will be additional latency added to the overall ping times. There are certain UK ISP's where their network backbone infrastructures aren't as efficient as other UK ISP's. These networks are usually responsible for users experiencing lag in games, even though that user may have a bazillion Mb download speed, because their ping speeds are terrible.
'Zombie Army 4: Dead War - Rebellion's Best Game Yet'
Thanks for the review, I enjoyed the read. Although I haven't played this latest game, I personally doubt that it's 'Rebellion's Best Game Yet', due to the simple fact that it features silly Zombies in it. When it comes to Rebellion's fantasy titles, then Sniper Elite 4 (which I really enjoyed playing in coop) is their best game to date, IMO.
Dunno about gyro aiming, but when I can't be arsed with moving from the couch to sit at my racing rig, I occasionally fire up Driveclub VR and use a DS4 'clip-on' wheel attachment and I use the gyro for steering. Although it's nowhere near as accurate as my T300, it gets the job done well enough for me to use it in Driveclub, as the game isn't too demanding, being a hybrid simcade racer with more of a lean towards the arcade aspect.
@leucocyte Sorry to learn about your issues. How old is/are the machine(s) that your attempting to install Win 10 on? I only ask, as I recently tried to update an old (very old) laptop from a previous version of Windows and when it came to the updates, that's also where I ran into similar problems.
However, in one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I bought a new system around a year ago, and I've had zero issues with it, with regards to o/s installations or any other type of install. I haven't drilled down into what the issue was with my old laptop (I can't be arsed, as it was more a experimentation exercise for me, which I quickly lost interest in), but at a guess, I reckon it's got something to do with old internal hardware/configurations that don't recognize new software procedures/libraries.
'I can't tell you how many times I have attempted to boot a game and it says I'm missing a .dll file.'
I've also experienced that, but it was like 10 years ago. Last year(ish), I bought a new system and now 13 months later, I have had zero problems with it. I don't mean things like missing *.dll files, but total zero problems with it.
'Sometimes the button prompts and UI don't support my controllers' and for a long time my entire controller wasn't supported so I had to find workaround solutions.'
I've had that happen to me with a few titles, but all I did was unplug my DS4 and plug-in a 360 controller and all was fine.
'In general, modern PC gaming is mostly just playing games ported from a console with PC controls '
I think that it's the other way around. All games are initially designed on a PC (even console exclusives), before being ported to console dev kits. In my previous post, you may note that I mentioned that I use a DS4 with my PC. That's also my preferred choice for shooters on PC.
'If Steam and its back-up servers suffered a terrorist attack, I would lose my entire catalog. Or maybe they just decided to ban me for some reason.'
Although I understand your point, you could apply that to any system, so (with respect) I don't think it's a valid argument.
'Until some substantial PC exclusive games like those of the past get made I still think PC's for gaming alone might not be worth it.'
I've never been a fan of the so-called exclusive. I've bought all the major 'exclusives' on Playstation this gen', but I haven't finished any of them. The expectation hype just didn't match my experiences with them. What I do like about the game library on PC, is that there's a vast amount to choose from, which caters for a much broader selection of genres. Maybe I'm getting too old for Playstation, but the choice of games available feels more and more like they're aimed at the kids market. I have to ask myself, sometimes, whether I'm playing on a Playstation or a Nintendo console.
@get2sammyb 'I just can't be bothered with settings and drivers and all that nonsense.'
If it were back in the days of MS-DOS where you had to manually edit your config.sys and autoexec.bat files to get, for example, your sound card working, then I'd agree with you. However, there's really no difference between a console and a PC when it comes to updates these days. What I mean by that, is that on a console you get a notification for an update and then you click a button. It's exactly the same on a PC. You get a notification for an update, and then you click a button. It's an entirely automated procedure on both systems.
As for settings, that's also done automatically on my PC (if I so choose to do so). The graphics driver software detects my overall system capabilities and adjusts the in-game settings, on an individual title basis, and sets them accordingly.
My PC is connected to my 4K telly, and I use a DS4 and a wireless keyboard & mouse and play from the couch, just as I do with consoles. Sometimes, I forget which system I'm using whilst playing a game.
Thanks for the heads-up. I only got as far as the first monster (the one who nicks the Stag from you), when I stopped playing. This has given me the encouragement to reinstall and give it another try.
'PlayStation users account for the majority of console players visiting Pornhub.'
As PS game titles are primarily aimed at teenagers, I can fully understand this.
Of course I can totally perceive that paedo older players, who get off on Anime short skirt girls, may be an exception.
@Shigurui Those were the days. I remember buying mags to type in the code, only to find that the crappy printing on page 2 had a number of lines faded out.
One good thing about that, was that it forced you to attempt to fill in the missing parts. Despite several degrees later, hand on heart, I'd say that's where I truly learnt how to program code.
Q. How do you feel about PlayStation as we move into a new year, decade, and, crucially, generation? Are you satisfied or concerned with Sony's efforts in 2019?
A. I feel that I have nothing in common anymore with the type of games that are offered on the system. Either they're aimed at younger players, or I'm getting too old for the console (it's probably the latter).
@Orpheus79V lol, until I read your comment I thought that the article was about that. I had to go back and look at the picture. It's still way to early. I need more coffee.
That's kinda my attitude as well with regards to the Desticle games. For £7 quid, tonight, I bought and have been playing the newly released, remastered HALO Reach on PC. Whilst playing, it occured to me just how good Bungie used to be.
@Shepard93n7 That's fine and I understand your point. However, you make a reference to single game, whereas I was referring to the entire software library.
Btw, just out of curiosity, which title is your favourite (if you don't mind me asking)?
@get2sammyb
Well I did state that I know that it's subjective. Personally, I think that on the whole the majority of PSVR software titles have been poor. The titles that I consider to be above mediocre and leaning towards being good, I can count on one hand. However like yourself, that's just my opinion. We disagree on this subject, but that's fine, as this is a discussion. After all, in the context of the German occupation of France during WW2 and the French resistance movement; One man's terrorist, is another man's freedom fighter.
@m1349 I do admit and agree with you, that there's a lot that can and will be improved upon. In my initial comment, I didn't mean to imply that because my experience with PSVR wasn't what I expected, that from now on VR is dead to me, or anything along those lines. Once the hardware becomes more capable, and more crucially, VR is given the correct degree of support in the form of decent software titles, I'll then buy back into the dream.
@carlos82 'Well I think its pretty clear that VR hasn't taken off to anywhere near the degree that many were hoping for.'
I have to agree with you. Most people, who I know, that purchased PSVR don't even bother turning it on anymore. When I bought mine, initially, I was swept along by the novelty effect. Although the majority of titles were below par, there were a few titles which gave an inkling of hope for better things to come. Unfortunately, these 'better things to come' never really materialised. For me and others, it's basically still a world of forgettable Indie crap.
In summary, I view PSVR as an expensive experiment which I bought into in-order to satisfy my curiosity. With hindsight/knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have purchased it.
@Sunnyviji That is so true. There are a lot of fanboi's on that site, who are all too ready to form a lynch mob, if you disagree with the sheep. I find that when I make such a comment on there, I'll purposely leave it a week until I decide to read any replies. By then, the sheep have moved onto their next victim.
Thanks for the news. £29.85 for 12 months, I'm almost tempted. Then I remember that it must be around a year(+) now since I cancelled my subscription and how I haven't missed it at all. So my dilemma is, do I give Sony 30 quid just for the privilege to play online for a year, or do I spend that 30 quid on a new PC multiplayer game? I've decided. A new game sounds like a better deal and use of my cash.

'In general, modern PC gaming is mostly just playing games ported from a console with PC controls '
'If Steam and its back-up servers suffered a terrorist attack, I would lose my entire catalog. Or maybe they just decided to ban me for some reason.'
'Until some substantial PC exclusive games like those of the past get made I still think PC's for gaming alone might not be worth it.'
Re: Poll: Will PlayStation Exclusives on PC Affect Your PS5 Purchasing Intent?
Re: Soapbox: Why You Must Play Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection While It's Free on PS Plus
Q. exactly why haven’t you finished Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed trilogy yet?
A. Because I found all of them (the few mins/hrs of each one which I've played) to be highly boring.
Re: Free God of War DLC Can Be Yours This Christmas
Thanks for the heads-up. I only got as far as the first monster (the one who nicks the Stag from you), when I stopped playing. This has given me the encouragement to reinstall and give it another try.
Re: PlayStation Players Are Still Gaming's Biggest W*nkers
'PlayStation users account for the majority of console players visiting Pornhub.'
As PS game titles are primarily aimed at teenagers, I can fully understand this.
Of course I can totally perceive that paedo older players, who get off on Anime short skirt girls, may be an exception.
Re: PS4 Firmware Update 7.01 Now Available to Download
@Shigurui Those were the days. I remember buying mags to type in the code, only to find that the crappy printing on page 2 had a number of lines faded out.
One good thing about that, was that it forced you to attempt to fill in the missing parts. Despite several degrees later, hand on heart, I'd say that's where I truly learnt how to program code.
Re: PS4 Firmware Update 7.01 Now Available to Download
@Kiro_Senpai lol, at least it's wasn't this year's 'Oven ready' slogan.
Re: Reaction: PlayStation's Most Ardent Fans Are Feeling Frustrated and Insecure
Re: Outer Wilds Patch 1.02 Improves Technical Performance on PS4
@Orpheus79V lol, until I read your comment I thought that the article was about that. I had to go back and look at the picture. It's still way to early. I need more coffee.
Re: Destiny 2: Season of Dawn Looks Like More Destiny, Starts 10th December
'Yeah, this is just more Destiny'
That's kinda my attitude as well with regards to the Desticle games. For £7 quid, tonight, I bought and have been playing the newly released, remastered HALO Reach on PC. Whilst playing, it occured to me just how good Bungie used to be.
Re: Soapbox: Why Half-Life: Alyx Is a Big Moment for PSVR
@Shepard93n7 Thanks for the reply. I also liked RE7 and B&T, although I have to admit that I haven't finished either yet.
Re: Soapbox: Why Half-Life: Alyx Is a Big Moment for PSVR
@Shepard93n7 That's fine and I understand your point. However, you make a reference to single game, whereas I was referring to the entire software library.
Btw, just out of curiosity, which title is your favourite (if you don't mind me asking)?
Re: Soapbox: Why Half-Life: Alyx Is a Big Moment for PSVR
@get2sammyb
Re: Soapbox: Why Half-Life: Alyx Is a Big Moment for PSVR
'Sony did an incredible job keeping PlayStation VR supplied with top-notch software'
I know that it's subjective, but that's a bit of an exaggeration.
Re: UploadVR's Holiday Showcase Returns Tomorrow with Tons of VR Reveals
Thanks for the heads-up. I'll stay tuned.
Re: Sony Unlikely to Receive Competition From Microsoft in VR Space Next-Gen
@m1349 I do admit and agree with you, that there's a lot that can and will be improved upon. In my initial comment, I didn't mean to imply that because my experience with PSVR wasn't what I expected, that from now on VR is dead to me, or anything along those lines. Once the hardware becomes more capable, and more crucially, VR is given the correct degree of support in the form of decent software titles, I'll then buy back into the dream.
Re: Sony Unlikely to Receive Competition From Microsoft in VR Space Next-Gen
Re: Guide: Will Half-Life: Alyx Ever Come to PSVR and PS4?
@oldschool1987 'Sick of her anyway.'
lol
Re: Espire 1: VR Operative Brings the Splinter Cell Experience to PSVR, Out Now
@Sunnyviji That is so true. There are a lot of fanboi's on that site, who are all too ready to form a lynch mob, if you disagree with the sheep.
I find that when I make such a comment on there, I'll purposely leave it a week until I decide to read any replies. By then, the sheep have moved onto their next victim.
Re: Deal: PS Plus 12 Month Membership Down to £30 for Black Friday in the UK
Thanks for the news. £29.85 for 12 months, I'm almost tempted. Then I remember that it must be around a year(+) now since I cancelled my subscription and how I haven't missed it at all.
So my dilemma is, do I give Sony 30 quid just for the privilege to play online for a year, or do I spend that 30 quid on a new PC multiplayer game? I've decided. A new game sounds like a better deal and use of my cash.
Re: Espire 1: VR Operative Brings the Splinter Cell Experience to PSVR, Out Now
@Sunnyviji There's also posts on PSVR reddit, which state, 'Do not buy', etc.
