Square Enix corp seems grossly mismanaged at the moment, which is quite terrifying for the the future of the JRPG franchises under SE. Hopefully this sale is the make SE more sizable for Sony to buy them.
I think the update to the PS5 today with the PS Plus moving up to a fixed position in the system sends a signal changes are coming. I’m sure there’s stuff in this update that set up further for the new coming services.
I love how binary some are. Just because it’s a DLC, it’s overpriced at €40? I’m not saying it isn’t but until we’ve actually seen it, it’s impossible to answer how much value it actually adds. I mean, Fate of Atlantis for Odyssey added three completely new zones and 15-20 hours of gameplay and it was €25. So just saying, if it’s 30-40 hours of content, then €40 isn’t that much compared to many other games.
If the streaming bit in Premium means you can stream any PS3/4/5 game that you own, it could be quite an interesting offer. Sort of a cloud PS5 compared to just select titles as it is today.
I do hope they build on this a bit further and add text and voice support down the road. While nice, this is really the bare minimum of an integration.
I was kinda hoping they’d continue the Final Fantasy entries and re-add FFXIII 1-3 to the service. It’s kinda strange that they are the only mainline entries not playable on a PS4/5 at this moment.
I bought the PSVR on launch day but sold it when I bought my PS5. I think there’s a tonne of potential in VR but the first gen PSVR just was a bit too early, tech wasn’t good enough. Pixilated graphics and unreliable head tracking made the experience not good enough. But I have high hopes for PSVR2 though.
There’s just not a chance that GamePass is profitable at current pricing. If Xbox has been a standalone company they wouldn’t have been able survive like this.
You have to remember that no publisher would add their games to GamePass if it didn’t promise more revenue than selling them the normal way.
But this all breaks badly with the promise of AAA 1st party games on day one. It’s been years in development and it’s supposed to earn the same by sharing a small piece of that $15 fee per month?
The goal today is all about getting sub numbers high enough and then start increasing prices over time, lex Netflix. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’ll cost twice what it costs today in a couple of years.
@nessisonett yeah. I want to play these games in one go and then move on. I have very little interest in coming back later. The positive side of this is that the game cheaper to buy if you wait
Asssassin's Creed Syndicate needs a patch more than Origins, as is one of the gamest that has big compatibility issues on the PS5, with lighting issues all over the place.
Still puzzles me that PS Now is still not available on mobile or macOS, both would seem like sensible additions and platforms that competing services are on. Makes it still feel like Sony aren't wholeheartedly invested in this.
That said, for all the hoopla that XGP gets, I think there's a better catalogue of games on PS Now these days. Just not as vast.
@wiiware well that’s the beauty of individualism. I personally never ever used folders on my PS4, and of all the things on this list probably what I want the least. Not do I really want VRR that much either, despite a fancy TV. But I’d love the Discord integration making keeping in touch with gaming friends so much easier.
While I do understand that some of you want folders and themes, I honestly couldn't care less about either of those. That teased Discord integration sounds very interesting though. Would be so nice to be able to still chat with my friend on Discord while on the PS5, also making cross-play easier.
I thought it was great. Yeah, the first half was a bit slow and GTA V certainly got too much time, but after that it certainly picked up. I had hoped for some more info on FFXVI and maybe at least a release year, but alas not this time. I’m also happy they spent their time away from Horizon, Kena and the other titles coming soon, as we’ve seen quite a lot of them already.
Please add this fix to Spider-Man. I played the base game when it was available on PS Now and then bought the collection for PS5, but can’t transfer my 98% completed PS4 save since I don’t own a copy of it.
Here’s my suggestion: Bundle PS Plus and PS Now into one joint service. Call it PS Multiply or whatever.
Make the new service available on more platforms, like mobile.
Also make any game you’ve bought on PS Store, accessible from the service, not just the games on PS Now (sort of like a hosted version of Remote Play).
While I do watch Crunchyroll, I don’t think you should mix media with a gaming service like PS Plus.
Sonys pricing strategy is really the biggest gripe I have with them at the moment. In Sweden, instead of the 16%ish increase that was made in Euro and Dollars, in SEK we got almost 30% increase for Sonys 1st party titles.
I just find it so strange they still don’t have macOS client for PS Now. Should be a big market with MacBook owners considering they aren’t always that powerful and not a lot of games for macOS. Soon even xCloud will support macOS through the browser.
The strangest part is maybe that GaiKai that they bought to build PS Now were primarily focused on the Mac market, so the tech has always been there.
XGP is that it’s clearly Microsoft’s attempt at trying to bleed out Sony by not going head to head but instead offer it as a service.
The problem is that XGP is by Microsoft’s admission not profitable (and how could it). 3rd party publishers wouldn’t join XGP if it was less lucrative for them, would they? Just like Netflix did, Microsoft will significantly increase their pricing once they feel their subs are reaching a peak. The “real” price of XGP is probably around $20-25.
But Sony has to come with some sort of countermove. Not sure a full on GamePass of their own is the right move though.
I know everyone raves about XGP, but from recent reports, it’s not profitable for Microsoft at current pricing. They are buying market share, and honestly quite happy that Sony is feeling confident enough to stay out of that.
But yeah, PS Now could certainly be a lot better. It needs PS5 games added, more platforms (mobile and macOS).
Personally, I’d like to see them sort of merge it with Remote Play. Still have a bunch of games included, but also allow access to all games you’ve bought for your PS4/PS5.
@Paranoimia yeah. I really love that when you use the DualSense with an iOS game or macOS Apple Arcade game, it swaps to use the symbols instead of ABXY. Should be standard for Steam as well.
@FX102A "Also “3 to 4”? More like 1 game with 3 to 4 different skins."
Honestly, that reeks of judging the books by the cover.
Look at their three major titles last year: Watch Dogs: Legion, Immortals Fenyx Rising and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Yeah, they are open world action games, but that's really were the similarities end.
Immortals have more common ground with Breath of the Wild than it has with AC: Valhalla. I also thought it was a AC reskinned as a Greek mythology adventure, but it is a very different game, from how combat works to a strong focus on puzzles.
And Watch Dogs, well, it has a completely different focus as well from the other two.

@Royalblues thought for a sec it was Black Myth: Wukong you meant, but don’t think it has sci-fi elements.

I'm a vanilla guy. Can occasionally dabble with chocolate, but I'd rather have chocolate sauce with the vanilla ice cream.
Re: Fortnite's Fast-Paced No Building Mode Could Be a Permanent Addition
The building parts has always been one of the main reasons I’ve never gotten very interested in Fortnite.
So can totally understand why they’d have it as permanent addition.

@Ooccoo_Jr it does have full cross-play these days at least. It’s still fun a few games with friends.

Re: Sony Buys Ex-Halo, Destiny Developer Bungie for $3.6 Billion
Guess this plays well into Sony not really wanting cross-play, all games will be platform exclusive to either platform.
Re: PS Now's January 2022 Update Includes Mortal Kombat 11, Final Fantasy 12, More
Really hope they continue this Final Fantasy rollout with FFXIII next month. As far as I can tell the only mainline entry not playable on PS4/5 atm.
