If one can take some silver lining from all of this, it freed up some time for me to add additional functionality to my Discord bot to keep an eye on PSN and Xbox Live status for the users.
@h15c0r3r @Darude84 same. Such a shame something so silly let's down an otherwise great headset.
I'm on my second set (replacement) as my first set eventually decided not to connect to anything at all.
It's really strange, they randomly disconnect from the console, but can't say I've ever noticed them disconnect from the PS Portal.
I have an extra dongle I use for PC and connection is always fine. Even tried to swap the dongles to see if one was faulty, but console still disconnects randomly.
It feels like it disconnects less frequently using the front USB (OG model PS5) but evidence suggests the console is the problem rather than the headset and/or dongle.
@DodgyDarwin I've struggled at times. I have mine on a Deco mesh which improved things a lot, but I think the nature of remote play and FPS games there's always going to be that inherent input lag. Even 0.1s makes a difference in those games. I play BO6 Zombies absolutely fine but Multiplayer is really challenging. Now that may be because I'm rubbish at it, but I suspect I'm worse than usual on portal.
@wilky2988 I go through phases like that. And just when you fancy a go, dead. Seems it has it's own rest mode so the button doesn't actually turn it off, off.
I ended up getting a cheap Venom dock now I just drop it on there when I'm done. Plugged into PS5 so it isn't constantly on charge but charges during sessions when I'm using the TV.
@TurboTom if you're playing a game from PS5 it'll turn the console on (from rest mode). If you have PS Plus premium you can play select cloud streaming games without the console being on.
@TtimeXP I don't believe you need PS Plus providing you have at least an account and a console you can play what you already play.
Edit, from Sony website:
"No, using PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player and PlayStation® Remote Play does not require a PlayStation Plus membership"
@TheArt think about it. Many kids won't have been quite old enough for gaming last year, but this year are and Switch is what they've asked for. The Switch games in the list could be considered staple games for a child's first foray into a games console. Rinse and repeat next year. There are millions of kids growing up.
@Khayl no need to explain yourself on it, mate. He spoke for the one Brit that inexplicably found it offensive, rest of us took it for exactly what it is.
For me it'd probably be a No. I love my Portal, works great and the addition of cloud streaming is well received.
However had the Portal been a device to play games natively, there would need to be a degree of downscaling those games.
For me the PS5 is yet to really hit full pace, with games continuing to be released cross-gen and inevitably being held back somewhat by the PS4.
I'd struggle to be convinced that they could cram a PS5 into a handheld but even if they could, surely we'd be in the same cross-gen situation where some sacrifice would need to be made on PS6 games to cater for it. Those sacrifices can come in many forms, from not using the full potential of the console to having to release development resource to work on two versions.
Properly love mine. I was always in the no thank you camp. I tried remote play on everything I could, from the Vita, PSTV, Sony phone (back when it was exclusive), PC, iOS and the different Android apps. Even bought a DS4 clip for my phone. None of them were any good.
The wife bought me the portal and it's superb. It worked fine out of the box for a while on Virgin Hub5 but after a couple of weeks it became unplayable again. Invested in some Deco X50s and since then it's been epic. Even bought the Pulse Elite to go with it.
Used it for single player like TLOU and TLOU2, Skyrim (again), Spiderman all of which were excellent. Also use it for some multiplayer games, most recently 7 Days to Die v1.0, again excellent.
I actually played a lot of GT7 on it too which was pretty impressive. I drew the line at F1 24 though, very difficult. Not unplayable but think the speed of the game vs these aging hands meant it wasn't a good experience.
All in all, a huge step up from previous remote play iterations, plus I mostly get to play a game without a child's head in the way of the screen. Mostly.
Pathetic. I can understand the upset from players in those countries that aren't serviced by PSN, but for the rest... grow up. You didn't mind signing up for a Rockstar Games account, Epic account for the freebies, EA play, Steam, Game Pass and the other countless accounts you need to sign up for to play on your PC. Let's face it, you don't like Sony encroaching in your "Master Race" world.
Makes great business sense for Microsoft. It's great buying up developers but you need people to sell your product to.
With relatively little going on in the PS Studios area at the moment, this can only be a good thing for PS5 owners - if said owners put aside the old and supposed console rivalry thing.
Putting aside the "Xbox games coming to PlayStation" headline and looking at it simply as another game studio, if the games are good, the people will buy.
On another note, bit of a shame that Xbox console sales have performed comparatively poorly. I'm not a businessman but one feels that in any sector, lack of real competition inevitably allows the market leader to rest on it's laurels.
Was absolutely not intending on a Portal. Been trying and failing with remote play for many years on the Xperia Z1, PS Vita, PSTV, Android, PC, iOS and even with a clip to attach my phone to a controller. None of the above were good experiences at all.
To my surprise, the wife bought me one and gave it to me last week. I've not been off it. It is absolutely superb.
I often struggle with single player games on the TV because there's always a child popping his head into the screen every 10 seconds to show me his lego creations, plus they just dont immerse me on a TV in a busy household. In the last week I finally completed TLOU and have moved onto Part 2 remaster on Portal and aside from the odd warning about connectivity, the experience has far exceeded my expectations.
Only thing that slightly annoyed me was the inability to use my pulse 3d wirelessly directly to the Portal. I've bitten the bullet and ordered the elite, on the basis that with an additional USB dongle I can use with my PC too.
Sure, the Portal won't be for everyone but I will say, if you've been bitten by remote play before, this is an entirely different animal.
@get2sammyb correct. It's somebody's profession. They've put thousands upon thousands of hours into their job, only for somebody else to show a low quality version of it to the world before you. Extremely bad form and they're right to be disappointed.
Secondary to that, I suspect there would have been some sort of fanfare at the official release time. Now that's gone too.
Pretty sure I used it once or twice when there was no way of getting a screenshot or video from the PS4 to my phone to send on WhatsApp. Think it was PS4 > Twitter > Save to Phone > Send on WhatsApp.
PS App is much more elegant now, plus I've not been on Twitter since we've not been allowed to call them 'Tweets'.
@DonkeyFantasy yeah I did the same research, didn't seem widespread but like you say, people will use WiFi. I'm definitely with you in thinking it's a console issue. Oddly I found it tended to happen with specific games, primarily FIFA and F1. Games like BF2042 l, Rocket League, GTA didn't seem to affected either as much or at all. I didn't deep dive into that theory though, so may be talking absolute rubbish.
@GKT @DonkeyFantasy I had this issue and was convinced it was the console. Even switched to WiFi for a while. A new cable changed nothing. I was running the LAN cable from a secondary router, swapped that out for a Gigabit hub and all has been fine for months now. Probably until I switch on later now I've jinxed it.
@Smiffy01 agreed. The days of ISS Pro and PES were footballing game good times. I always preferred Winning Eleven if only because of the superb commentary.
Had Cyberpunk on Stadia at release. Was the best version at the time but I just didn't put the hours in.
Now Stadia is off to gaming heaven, I've grabbed it on PS5 in the January sale and started a new game. I'm properly hooked.
Absolutely love the game and as impressive as Stadia was, playing on PS5 now sort of confirms why Stadia is shutting down. The experience between cloud gaming and console is still like night and day.
@Flaming_Kaiser oh, absolutely. The comments section every month is ridiculous. Perhaps even more ridiculous this month when you consider you aren't allowed to refer to a gaming demographic without being accused of racism.
@Flaming_Kaiser it didn't sound racist in any way shape or form, pal. Why or how he came to that conclusion I, and probably everybody else here, have no idea.
Personally not a great month for me, but you can't win them all. PS Plus Extra looks to have a few interesting games for me and the lads to mess with though.
@MillenialDoomer yep! I bought it and as I think I've commented before, I bought it knowing full well it COULD be a mess and I could be throwing money away. I'm old enough to be able to make that decision all by myself and I'm in a position to be able to lose that money if it turns out to be poor.
But it isn't the mess the non-purchasers are making out. Is it groundbreaking? No. Did I expect it to be? Also no. We don't need some jumped up know-it-alls suggesting we're sheep for buying it. I can only assume that they know how 'bad' it is because they bought it too.
I've actually enjoyed what I've played so far, but juggling work and kids means I've not sunk as many hours into it as I would some years ago. It's always there though, at any point I get an hour or so I can turn it on and enjoy it.
Have to admit, I was sold on the idea of this being BF back to it's very best, which most recently was BF4 in my opinion. As others have said, this is not a bad game as such, but a bad BF game it is. I've enjoyed the few hours I've played it to be fair, but something is missing (as well as players). The fact that it was included in a PSN sale so early should have raised a couple of red flags to me, but I still bought it. Similar to how I bought the GTA trilogy too. Will I ever learn?
I bought it. Knew full well I had no idea what I was getting but I can afford to lose £55. Not overly impressed at all, needs a lot of ironing out. A lot.
I can ignore the spelling mistakes, though that is just plain laziness. By all means use AI to help, but mark it's homework at the very least.
The environments I think look good and stay true to the originals but improved upon. I particularly like San Andreas, though I've been to Grove Street and the immediate area only.
The character design, poor. I can get behind the cartoon effect, but surely they must have seen the state of some of the characters before signing off on them? I wouldn't trust Reece the barber around my kids.
That rain! GTA3 clearly wasn't tested because the rain is an absolute mess from the very beginning.
I've been killed by police twice on Vice City because I didn't pause. Got up to make a drink with no stars. Got back and I was getting wasted for minding my own business.
And I know it's a game based around a life of crime, but FFS, every time I get out of a car some f*****r nicks it!
And I'm sure it's not my TV and headphones being the issue. The sound quality is extremely poor. Sometimes has some bass, sometimes not. Had the occasional radio cutout on VC too.
But other than that, I'm having another go after. So not £55 totally wasted I suppose. It's absolutely not worth £55 or anywhere near.
I really really don't want to buy them because I won't have time to play them much, and probably go on sale at some point. But I almost preloaded last night. Once I get that far it's only a matter of time before I pay the money.
I can't believe Sony don't contact me personally every month and ask if I already have these games, or would I be interested in them. I kid. Nobody is forcing me to subscribe, I pay so I can play with my mates when the kids let me use the TV.
As it turns out, I like Hitman and only have it on Stadia so nice addition to my library. Overcooked is decent enough and Predator one of my mates keeps asking me to buy it because he likes the look of it. I'm not convinced by it, so it's a win win here.
@Flurpsel agreed! Actually looking forward to Tennis, something me and my mates can have a bash on. If we like it, great. If not, none of us have paid anything extra for it. Then we go again next month. Until then we stick to our tried and tested games that we did buy.
Decent lineup. Slightly disappointed Wreckfest PS4 isn't offered too, since still can't get hold of a PS5 easily. Can add to library though for the future. BFV I have, but very good game despite not hitting the heights of BF3 & 4. Stranded Deep looks interesting.
@get2sammyb how dare you write an article that isn't specifically tailored to my personal needs and requirements. I wont be back to this site until next time I want to submit a pointlessly negative post. Good day to you.
@Zeke68 agreed. I really like this one. Sure, it's not the best game ever made and can be buggy when it feels like it, but it's easy to pick up and good to play with mates. We play coop, one of my mates isn't the best gamer in the world, but he thinks it's great and easy enough for him to learn. Actually glad to see it's getting some support going into PS5.
I don't even care who lied to who. I heard PS5 was coming out, said I'll have one of them and that was that. Other than watch a few videos and check out the specs as well as check out the competition, I've been quite happy in my own ignorant world. Having said that, at my age if somebody had lied to me, I probably wouldn't remember anyway.
I have to admit, with the Xbox Series S and price reveal shortly after, I did slightly turn my head to Microsoft. Not enough to change my mind on buying the PS5, but was the first time I'd even considered going Xbox. I kind of like the idea of the All Access deal that they've carried forward from Xbone, excellent for those with lower income or parents to spread cost. But also seems a little desperate in some ways to make up sales. I'll give Sony a week to announce something, then probably another week after that. And so on.

Re: PS Portal Owners Spend More Time Playing PS5, Says Sony
@Steeleye50 if you're using it at home then you download/upload isn't really a factor. It's all about the quality of your internal networking.
If you can hardwire your console to your router then do it. After that it's all about the WiFi quality between the router and the portal.
I ended up buying a Deco mesh system because my ISP router was garbage.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Games for August 2021?
@Flurpsel agreed! Actually looking forward to Tennis, something me and my mates can have a bash on. If we like it, great. If not, none of us have paid anything extra for it. Then we go again next month. Until then we stick to our tried and tested games that we did buy.
Re: PS Plus May 2021 PS5, PS4 Games Announced
Decent lineup. Slightly disappointed Wreckfest PS4 isn't offered too, since still can't get hold of a PS5 easily. Can add to library though for the future. BFV I have, but very good game despite not hitting the heights of BF3 & 4. Stranded Deep looks interesting.
Re: PS Plus Oversight Is a Bummer for PS3, PS Vita Owners
@get2sammyb how dare you write an article that isn't specifically tailored to my personal needs and requirements. I wont be back to this site until next time I want to submit a pointlessly negative post. Good day to you.
Re: Ghost Recon: Breakpoint Still Exists as PS5 Upgrades Detailed
@Zeke68 agreed. I really like this one. Sure, it's not the best game ever made and can be buggy when it feels like it, but it's easy to pick up and good to play with mates. We play coop, one of my mates isn't the best gamer in the world, but he thinks it's great and easy enough for him to learn. Actually glad to see it's getting some support going into PS5.
Re: Phwoar! Here's a View of the PS5's Rear
No scart? I've a bag full. I'm not throwing them, they'll come back in the moment I do.
Re: Sony Reiterates Ongoing Commitment to PS4, Like All Other PlayStation Consoles
Re: Sony's PSVR Reveals This Week Aren't Proving Popular
I have to admit, with the Xbox Series S and price reveal shortly after, I did slightly turn my head to Microsoft. Not enough to change my mind on buying the PS5, but was the first time I'd even considered going Xbox. I kind of like the idea of the All Access deal that they've carried forward from Xbone, excellent for those with lower income or parents to spread cost. But also seems a little desperate in some ways to make up sales. I'll give Sony a week to announce something, then probably another week after that. And so on.
