Re: February PlayStation Plus Games Revealed

RawShark

Happy with LBP3. Always tempted to buy this in a sale but glad I held out. Not sure about the rest.

BTW the most fun you'll have with Ninja Senki DX will be reading the mad-as-a-badger review that was posted on this very site, then seeing the chaos that unfolded in the comments board thereafter.

Edit: Oh man! Just checked and it's been removed. That's a shame.

Re: The Reaction to December's PlayStation Plus Games Has Not Been Positive

RawShark

I don't think the line up is anywhere near as bad as August's, personally. At least they didn't try and flog us a game they'd already given away before.

It just reeks of entitlement. If people really want to play Knack they can pay the £5 it goes down to in almost every sale, or in any branch of CEX. I'd rather take Invisible Inc. any day.

Re: Unsurprisingly, The Last of Us Movie Is At a Standstill

RawShark

There really isn't much point to putting it out now to be honest. Anyone who saw The Girl With All The Gifts this year will know the story has pretty much been told now - and in all probability in a better way than a film directly based on the game would be.

If you haven't seen it, it's well worth checking out. It doesn't outright rip the story off but it is clearly based on it. It's worth viewing as a companion piece, or if you're like me and have a bit of imagination, a prequel.

Re: PS4 Pro Doesn't Appear to Have a 4K Blu-ray Player

RawShark

It's a shame, but I'm really not too bothered. Beung fabulously wealthy I have Netflix, Amazon and Sky Q and as a result haven't bought a DVD or Blu Ray in years (barring the odd obscure anime that would never make it to TV in a thousand years). All of these offer a range of content and films in UHD on demand so I wasn't planning on shelling out for any further discs. Now if you'll excuse me I need to light this cigar with a ten pound note.

Re: Sony Makes Amends for Duplicate PlayStation Plus Game

RawShark

It's not just that the error was made, it's that when people complained about it they didn't handle it very well. The silence made people think they were just being ignored in the hope that eventually they'd lose interest and forget about it, and allegedly emails being returned by their customer service essentially said "yes, but some people won't have been members back then and might still enjoy the game" which basically translates into telling the most loyal subscribers "this game isn't for you! Why would we give a damn about you?"

Anyway, I'm glad it's finally been properly addressed. Water under the bridge. Now hopefully the Sony blog staff can use Twitter again without too much hassle.

The game is deeply average, by the way, but it's the thought that counts.

Re: Review: No Man's Sky (PS4)

RawShark

It seems like a quite a divisive game. No Man's Marmite, if you will.

I'm glad it exists, but also sadly admit I'll never have the time spare to fully appreciate it.

Re: Round Up: Batman PS4 Reviews Reveal the Telltale Title We Deserve

RawShark

My concern for this one is the same I had with Arkham Knight from a narrative perspective - I feel like all Batman's stories have now basically been told. It was like on the Arkham a Knight box when it was all like " Who is the Arkham Knight?" And it turned out to be the first person you'd think of if you knew anything about Batman.

At least the plot twist one quarter of the way through the game was decent, though.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Ditch PS3, Vita Support for PlayStation Plus?

RawShark

Just glancing at the Facebook comments seems to indicate there are still quite a few subscribers on PS3 and Vita who want the service to continue on the systems. Personally I'd rather they integrated game keys for PS Now into the service to enable a kind of backward compatibility, but then PS Now isn't available to everyone.

I guess things should probably be kept as they are for now. But please, please, no more recycled games that have already been given away on the service! (Sidenote: even more disappointing than Retro/Grade's reinclusion on the service, for me, is Sony totally turning a blind eye to all the posts and complaints that pointed this out and just pretending they don't exist. Making a business decision is one thing but not addressing the complaints of paying subscribers is pretty disgusting.)

Re: People Really Aren't Happy with August's PlayStation Plus Games

RawShark

@Tasuki The Yakuza 5 reveal is somewhat muted for me as I picked it up when it briefly was mislisted as free in the store a few weeks ago. At the time I saw it as a bonus for last month's Plus freebies, so seeing it again (officially, this time) makes it feel like less of a bonus. But I can see what happened was a mistake and I can forgive that.

But what I, and many others are rightfully pee'd off about is the recycling of a game that was given away four years ago as a new offering. Sure maybe others weren't a member of Plus back then, but the most loyal who were there from the start are a game down this month. I mean does this set a precedent where games previously received from 2012 will be cycled out again as "new" freebies? It's a terrible practice.

In all honesty, out of sheer principle, I don't think I've ever been as disappointed in a Plus refresh as I have been with this month's.

Re: Your Free PlayStation Plus Games for August Have Been Revealed

RawShark

With the greatest of respect to Sony, this month is really limp. Technically Yakuza 5 was free a few weeks ago in what looked like a store error. Either they pulled the trigger on that too early or they're just mitigating the losses they made in their mistake.

And no one, ever, has been happy to get one of those block building physics puzzle games as a gift. No one wanted that.

Re: WWE 2K17's Cover Star Has a Sword on His Chest

RawShark

@SPGFan34 I don't fully agree with what SPGFan34 said, but they were wise to go with Brock over Reigns or Ambrose. Reigns is too divisive even disregarding his current suspension, and as JBL keeps saying, Ambrose face scares children. Brock on the other hand is a big money fighter - spanning MMA as well as WWE. It coincides with his match at Summerslam and his recent return to UFC. I don't think it matters he isn't a full time fixture in WWE - after all the Undertaker is still one of the most recognisable and biggest names in wrestling and he's wrestled about five matches in as many years.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with July's PlayStation Plus Games?

RawShark

@thedevilsjester yeah no worries - I get your point and it's fair enough. I was just having a bit of a josh. I think, seeing as Western support for both vita and PS3 had all but dried up by this point, they might wind down on those offers and start giving away access to PS Now titles. I mean, does anyone actually use that service as it stands?

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with July's PlayStation Plus Games?

RawShark

@Majic12 that is true. And sports is a difficult genre to please everyone. For example Sky have their own channel for Formula 1 as F1 fans notoriously aren't keen on any other sports. US sports in Europe also gave incredibly niche audiences. And the much of the USA generally hates football/soccer. It's tricky.

Of course, if PlayStation had EA access they could leave the sorts to that and focus on everything else in PS+. Not saying that's what should happen, but some users would have appreciated the option.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with July's PlayStation Plus Games?

RawShark

@thedevilsjester to be honest, if you don't have all three systems I'd say the value of Plus drops sharply to the point where I'd say you wouldn't be getting as much out of it as you should. You're more likely to have something you like each month if you have all three. If you're anything like me you'll have amassed a library of games on each system by now and are pretty much set for life.

Re: the spread, I think it's quite heartening as Sony seem to have listened to critics who were exhausted by the monthly inclusion of indie side-scrollers or metroidvanias.

Re: Your July PlayStation Plus Games Have Been Revealed

RawShark

Yeah, I'm happy with that. I'd quite happily give most of those a go. PS4 titles are both good choices.

I actually bought Fat Princess on it's day of release. It got about two weeks worth of play from me before I lost interest but others might want to give it a go (although I'm amazed the server isn't dead! Even with the PS Plus user uptick I can image there being a lot of empty waiting rooms and a ton of bots).

I thought Oreshinka was a great premise for a game so I'm glad I get to try it out. I remember Call of Juarez mostly for it being picked out by Graham Linehan as an example of terrible video game writing on Charlie Brooker's Gamewipe, but I'm partial to a bit of cowboy shoot'em up and with a campaign length of 6 hours I might actually manage to fit it in a weekend.

Sadly, the PSP port of Prince of Persia was quite dire on release and I really doubt that's changed. But hey, I have the HD version on PS3 anyway so I'm not missing anything.

As David Bowie once said, "I'm happy. Hope you're happy too. Wuzzawuzz."
