@Dislecksier Yes. The core design of the gameplay, layout, and story remain intact. With some extras added. Compared to other remakes, it's very faithful.
@Resi32 I understand what you mean, but that's not what I mean.
Remake 2 is a reimagining. A faithful remake would be a product designed to deliver the same game, but in a much higher quality form. RE2 looks and plays very differently, and intentionally so, since many don't want the fix camera style of the older games.
@PoopScoop The original remaster has been available for like 8 years. Is only £16 normally, goes down to £8 regularly, and has been free on PSN+. And is still available on both the PS4 and PS5.
This isn't a "some people haven't played the original and now they have a chance to" issue. If those people haven't played the original with all the chances they have had, they either have zero interest or have a stupidly superficial view on games.
@OrtadragoonX I mean in terms of re-releasing. I try to be fair with VR and Switch releases since they are different markets, and just try to look at it from a generation and version type. Skyrim had a full price remaster and a free upgrade. TLOU is a full price remaster and a full price remake. So far my top five worst offenders are;
1) Resident Evil 4 2) The Last of Us Part 1 3) Grand Theft Auto 5 4) Skyrim 5) and I don't know, let's say Doom.
Clearly he's not "lying", but he isn't telling the whole truth when he says this. In his head, he is thinking Live Service games.
It's safer to assume that single player games, like Hellblade and Fallout are going to stay exclusive, while the massive MP online titles like Minecraft and COD will continue to be available to their massive PS audience.
I find it funny how often and quickly companies are backing off of NFTs compared to other things like microtransactions. If it was just pure gamer backlash, they wouldn't do half the stuff they do.
Which leads me to believe that once these companies really start to look at NFTs, it becomes really clear that it's not a good investment to make.
They must have all been sold on the model by NFT bros, and are getting the reality hit afterwards.
@NEStalgia "I've gone from science-nerd to anti-science"
I don't think that's a science problem, so much as a captialism one.
We don't put enough money in to public education, because there's not enough money to be made, but we will sell dangerous ideas and solutions to fix those ideas.
I always thought it mad that "sex sells" and yet we literally won't let people sell it. But I guess that's the point, you can't sell products on the belief they'd get you laid, if you could just take that money and cut out the middle man.
Calling it now. They aren't just revealing a new logo, but also a new studio name and game.
They will be making Marvel games with Insomniac. Their first game will be a prequel to Spider-man following Ben Parker. Their studio name will be 'Uncle Bends'.
@get2sammyb right, but they had plans until Fortnite went big.
And the size doesn't really instill confidence. Even with their size, Sony studios still take years to put out a product. If they get a product that brings in big bucks on a yearly basis, instead of every half decade, kinda obvious where the priority will be.
The only other option would be to swell the studio sizes even further. Something's gonna have to give.
"It’ll only take one hit from the 12 titles the company has planned to potentially fund brilliant single player titles for years to come."
I don't know why people keep pushing this narrative. Epic games, since hitting it big with Fortnite, has seemingly shutdown all other projects to keep up with the Fortnite content machine.
Gears was sold to MS, Unreal and other new projects were all cancelled. They went from releasing a new game every year to having released nothing on console (other than Fortnite) for nearly a decade.
The second one of these studios hits it big with a GAAS. That's that studio done for.
@Enigk I agree, but I can only imagine that through out the PS4, Sony saw how much money they and their 3rd parties were making through micros and that they've got their blinkers on.
@Enigk @Areus I think at least 10 of them are expected to fail or have modest success, and they are hoping that a couple hit it big.
It's probably a numbers games for Sony. Releasing one GAAS would likely be a flop, but release 12, and something's going to stick, right?
And let's be honest, GT7 is a GAAS and they charged full price for that. So even if the game doesn't get long term support, Sony are probably expecting to make money on the entry fee.
The way I see it, is GAAS are a zero-sum game. They are precursors to the metaverse. They exist to consume your time. They need your time in order to maximise profits. That time has to come from other places. Either traditional games, your real life, and even other GAAS. And instead of a set budget, they have a floating budget. So instead of spending your money and then moving on to the next title, either brand new or sequel, the money can indefinitely get reinvested in to that same title. Variety dies.
Either the game fails, or it causes other games to fail.
Ironically, this is where a constant service like Game Pass is just better. There's still variety.
Edit: I just want to show an example here. Epic Games, in the 00s, released several Unreal games, several Gears games, and others, like Bulletstorm and Shadow Complex.
Since 2011 when they started work on Fortnite, they have sold Gears, cancelled Unreal, cancelled their MOBA game, and have more or less exclusively worked on Fortnite since then. Gears of War Judgement back in 2013 was their last actual console release besides Fortnite.
@get2sammyb @AdamNovice It could also be as simple as Sony didn't preserve the US versions of these games, hence why it's the European ones, and why they recently hired a guy to preserve content.
@AFCC "all games are rip-offs of the same genres when you think about it lol"
This is why there's no legal issues. If you start allowing companies to copyright artstyle, game mechanics (f- you Nintendo, WB, and Bloober team), and game modes, you end up with zero room for creative freedom.
Dead Space itself is heavily inspired by Resident Evil 4 and Event Horizon. And Even Horizon was inspired by Solaris, and the original Resident Evil was inspired by Home Sweet Home.
And hence why I don't like calling things rip offs.
Hopefully it goes on a decent discount. Would probably have bought it by now but the way the upgrade was handled really put me off buying it for the prices it's been offered.
Nah, that's a recipe for failure. Worrying about what a reviewer is going to say can lead you to implement some of the most generic ideas, and focus on the most superficial aspects.

@naruball Didn't miss your point. You shouted "context" while ignoring the context. I was countering that by pointing out that these things do not exist in a vacuum, and that it's no coincidence that the rich continue to make sure they get their fair share of money, while not making sure they pay out their fair share of money, especially in times like right now when those extra taxes could go a long way for people.
It's a double standard and hypocrisy that brings people to conclusion that companies are bad. And would explain why you may see people expressing that, and why it may be relevant in this story about a corp making sure they get paid properly.
It's context you are convientiently cutting away to defend your criticism.
@naruball "You should always attack the company because they have money, unlike the little guy, who doesn't. Context doesn't matter."
The context is that Sony is the second highest grossing company in gaming, making billions every year. The context is that massive companies like Amazon have seen continous increases in profits. The context is these companies paying pennies in taxes. The context is the cost of living going through the roof. The context is the little guys are being forced in to poverty, while companies scrape at every penny. And stories like this reminding you how they behave.
CRPG actually stands for Computer Role Playing Game, not Classic Role Playing Game.
Also:
"Backwards compatibilty - The ability of a games console to run software created for prior consoles in the series. The PS5, for example, is backwards compatible with PS4 and is able to run the overwhelming majority of software created for that console."
The goalie saving the ball he just threw behind him is a nice touch.
@UltimateOtaku91 Sorry, I was editing as you replied. Ignore it if not relevant.
Yeah, what seems like a sizable amount of the community has been asking for 343i to stop being the dev. When Bethy were bought, many wanted iD, before that it was Certain Affinity, who are actually doing a lot more Halo stuff now it seems.
I'm confused. Were you expecting 343i to pump out Bungie quality?
Edit: I want to make clear that this isn't a Bungie vs 343i thing. The argument is "games made under GP are reduced quality and Halo Infinite is a good example of that", but here you can see that, removing variables like different devs, using the mentioned Halo, under the same dev, two games made outside of GP, and one made under GP, the games made outside of GP were either worse or equal in quality. 87 vs 87 isn't "the second lowest title", it's joint first (which is still first, it is still the best work they've ever managed to output, especially when factoring in user reviews) as far as 343i's ability to create a game is concerned.
At best, Halo Infinite is a bad example of the GP quality argument, at worst, you are providing evidence of a dev producing their best work under GP.
I feel like they butchered the engine for Halo 5, it had all sorts of out of place weirdness with its graphics, and that's why they tried to build the new engine, but Halo 4 (campaign at least) was stunning for a 360 game.
I think if they were competent enough to update the Blam engine, that would be the better way to go, but given its 343i, going with UE4 may better for them.
@Grumblevolcano I'd need a citation that a major rewrite took place. The Hunt the Truth marketing could very well have just been a marketing team doing a better job than the actual writers.
And honestly, I have long insisted that Halo Infinite was fully rebooted in 2018, hence why it was in such rough shape and ended up getting delayed. And I'd point to the, new naming, early tech reveal and teaser as evidence for that. MS were essentially announcing the new reboot and as a result, had zero gameplay to show for it.
In both cases, I'd still say that the games are a product of their studio, and not Game Pass.
@Cyrus29 @UltimateOtaku91 "I'd definitely say its a better AAA game"
Both critics and fans agree that Halo Infinite is better than both Halo 4 and 5. So while your opinion is valid for you guys, in general, you'd be wrong.
"And then there's the multiplayer component which isn't even complete and has had backlash from fans yet 5 didn't have that problem"
Yes it did. It released with massive amounts of content missing. No BTB, like 3 game types, and a small number of maps, and was missing Forge. When it launched, Halo 5 got plenty of backlash for its MP.
"Halo 5 stuck to the original halo linear formula"
I'm not sure what the connection between linear and open world designs and Gamer Pass is. Are Horizon and Spider-man not open world games?
My point, Halo Infinite is a product of its studio (and is apparently, their best work so far), it's quality can't be used as representative of Game Pass games, and how it reduced quality.

Subjectively, everybody reads "5" as bad.

@Snake_V5 I hope so. Or hope they come later on.
But to stagger releases of legacy games, or not release them in the US, is a poor move.

@Snake_V5 Which is a massive kick in the teeth considering that RE got a faithful remake, and RE2 and 3 didn't.
Why do the Japanese companies hate their legacy titles?.

Don't make me break my "wait a year" policy.
Re: Sony Leaks The Last of Us: Part I for PS5, Launching 2nd September
Having seen the trailer, this is looking more like an enhanced remaster. So it's not even a remake.
It looks more Demon Souls than Crash Bandicoot.
Doesn't look "built from the ground up" and the way I'd use that phrase. Voice and cinematic animations all look the same, so plenty of reused assets.
