@Lup - Tried to play Nights 2 today and was locked out of it. Both games were pulled from plus on the 19th. Guess Sony never got the memo. Found the notice on Koei Tecmo's site.
@Lup - Damn, that's a real shady move to pull without any sort of notification. I started Nights of Azure 2 a few weekends back, I'd better get a move on, my premium sub expires early April and I'm dropping down to essential. Thanks for the heads up!
@Kelrics90 - I think WW will steal a bit of Genshin's lunch money initially but that's about all. That said I do think it has the potential to co-exist quite happily and build a large enough playerbase to thrive but it certainly won't be a Genshin killer. Nothing will.
The only reason HSR is more generous than Genshin is because there are dozens of turn based gacha games out there that it has to compete with. Genshin has almost no competition. Simple as that.
@naruball - I grabbed it myself, played it on Steam a few years back and really enjoyed it. It's not as polished as a Vanillaware game but it's a solid knockoff. Enjoy!
If you're a fan of the older Vanillaware titles I definitely recommend having a look at Sword of the Vagrant for £2.79. It's pretty much a love letter to games like Muramasa Rebirth and Odin Sphere. Great little game.
With that all fixed can you now get onto Naughty Dog and Bluepoint for their comically blunt trophy naming of Uncharted 2, 3 PS3 versions and the PS4 Nathan Drake collection. Where they were so inept they didn't even add the word Trophy to 5 different platinum trophies. They just called them, wait for it.. Platinum. Amateurs.
Cyberpunk 2077. Heading into the PS4 version of Night City to finish up my monowire Lucy run. Holds up pretty well even without all the updates the PS5 version now has. Have a good weekend all!
I've got a soft spot for ToF and still play a few hours a week but the game is completely dead and events only ever highlight that nobody plays it, they always have a coop element that you can't complete because there's never anyone in matchmaking to team up with.
@Fishface45 - All the ads? There's exactly one and that's the gacha banner promoting the new characters. God forbid a free game needing to stay alive by generating income.
Having a lot of fun with this, combat wise it plays a lot like Ni No Kuni 2 or Tokyo Xanadu. Basic but serviceable. Managed to get a really good squad of characters including Artemis who's the best dps in the game. You can infinitely reroll your first 10 pull until you get something good and right now there's an event that gives thousands of gems and 50 free pulls.
Nights of Azure 2, started it last week so going to crack on with that along with some Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Never played the Sigma version but I played a lot of Ninja Gaiden Black back in the day. It'll be interesting to see the differences between the 2 versions. Have a good weekend all!
Anyone else gtting a Y axis bug in Penacony? I play inverted Y and it keeps randomly swapping the axis setting. Doesn't happen in any other area. Highly annoying.
@z0d15g0d - The hotel is a former prison, hence the name.
A bit of Hades and I'm about to start either Nights of Azure 2 or Ys Lacrimosa of Dana. Have a good weekend all!
@kyleforrester87 - I'm 350 hours into Star Rail and still have no idea what's going on! There's some really good world building and character missions once you get on the train but the main storyline isn't even close to being finished so just go with the flow.
@BeerIsAwesome - Their previous game, Punishing Gray Raven is very well received and they do have a solid playerbase willing to give this a shot, it's also making a lot of noise within the Genshin community. As a service game it has room to change over time, it just needs to stick the landing!
@ATaco - Sorry mate, I didn't mean to put anybody off. I meant the optional endgame content being difficult. I highly doubt the majority of the game will be overly taxing. Gacha games generally cater to a more casual audience to draw in a huge playerbase.
I expect Wuthering Waves won't stray from that for the most part but it will offer an actual endgame with a certain level of difficulty. Genshin players have wanted that for years but HoYo straight up said no and have stuck to that decision. That's where this game will cater to the players that want that but I expect it will still be approachable.
This will definitely steal some of Genshin's lunch money, especially as it's a more soulslike game in terms of difficulty where Genshin is a complete pushover with almost no endgame content. Can see a lot of GI players giving it a shot.
@BeerIsAwesome - It bodes very well for the future, these games live or die by their communities and all the changes were made due to community feedback, it shows the devs are willing to listen and react, unlike HoYo who ignore the Genshin community and treat them like idiots. As can be seen right now with the currently ongoing anniversary debacle.
@themightyant - Asta for my free pick, I have her at E5 and my Sampo is E6. I've almost finished building Kafka so those 2 are next up for my DoT team. Roll on Penacony and a new BP, I need resources badly!
@colonelkilgore - I'm not a fan of turn based games myself but I gave Honkai a shot and it really clicked for me. Battles are short with 1 to 3 waves and you get an auto battle option very early on so you can just enjoy everything else it offers and let the game do the fighting for you if need be.
I'm in the mood for a sidescroller/metroidvania so I'm digging deep into my catalogue with Dust: An Elysian Tail and a bit of Muramasa Rebirth on good old VitaTV/PSTV. Have a good weekend all!
@Athrum - Doubtful Sony could afford them even then. Genshin is their biggest earner but Honkai Impact 3rd was already making them ridiculous money before that even released.
@themightyant - Exactly that. I love roguelite games but SU is not like Isaac or Hades where you can just jump into it. Those games are still a time sink but just playing them gets you deeper. SU requires you to play an awful lot of everything that isn't SU, something this article completely fails to mention.
@get2sammyb - While I agree the Sim Universe is a great roguelite this article makes out it's something to just jump into. It gets introduced early enough but takes dozens of hours outside of the mode to get a team capable of beating anything besides the gimme worlds and hundreds of hours to get into the weeds of it all. You should make a point of that.
Nice top pick! I can't fault the game. I'm all in on Tower of Fantasy though which is borderline broken, often unfathomable and rough as a bears arse all round but that combat system wipes the floor with any of HoYo's current games (imho). Really looking forward to ZZZ from HoYo. The combat in that game looks superb!
@themightyant - He admitted to embezzlement when he said in his apology video that donations had been used to offset costs for his indie game events. You can't tell your donators that 100% of donations go into the foundation if you're using a portion of that money to fund the events. You can use that money to fund the events but donators have to be informed. That is embezzlement.
As for the golf fundraiser money. The donations paid to the foundation didn't include a large amount of that money, it's unaccounted for. All on public record.
@themightyant - 'It feels like the punishment doesn't fit the crime'
He hasn't been punished at all yet, career wise he's absolutely shat the bed but legally, not at all yet.
He has openly admitted to embezzlement. The majority of money made from the golf fundraisers never made it into his foundation coffers and that's been proven beyond doubt. Paying out 600k because your hand is forced means nothing when that money should never have been hoarded.
For years he's been telling donators that their money is going directly to XY and Z and it went nowhere, he lied. How anyone can defend this guy is mind boggling.
@Judal27 - Ah get you. Yeah Dan Heng IL is a monster, I've got a couple of really well built DHIL's in my support roster. I got Welt from standard and he's surprisingly good with great CC, I use him to lock everything down for Argenti nukes, really good fun. Hopefully DHIL gets a rerun early in 2.0.
@Judal27 - You can get Yukong for free. She's also imaginary and a decent buffer. Just clear Forgotten Hall: Memory of Xinzhou Luofu 1st stage to get her.
@Kyushutrail - Not just me then. On paper Dead Cells is everything I should enjoy but that game is absolutely soulless. Getting a death in stuff like Binding of Isaac or Hades always gives me that 'one more run' vibe, Dead Cells just makes me turn it off. Really wanted to like that game but it doesn't click at all for me.
Honkai Star Rail, just got Argenti and Hanya on my main account and Silver Wolf and Lynx on my secondary so building/testing them today. Tomorrow I'll be on Ghost of Tsushima starting the Iki Island DLC. Have a good weekend all!
@DrClayman - Sable is excellent but it's an absolute chore to get through due to horrendous performance issues. It rarely hits the 30fps mark and often turns into a slideshow that drops to single digit fps. It's always been awful on console, has been since launch and the dev team won't patch it.
Bungie isn't the right dev to lead their own live service game, let alone be the steward of Sony's GaaS projects. If Sony really want to make bank in this space they need to be looking to someone like HoYo.
While I think gacha is abhorrent, they make extremely high quality games that are F2P fair, know how to retain a playerbase with regular content and monetise in a way that attracts millions of low spending players. Obviously Sony couldn't afford to buy HoYo but they should look to their overall model.
Tower of Fantasy, started it a few days ago and I'm hooked. It's really rough around the edges with a story that's so wtf it makes the DoA 5 campaign look sane but looking past it's many issues there's a solid combat engine in there that's really enjoyable. Have a good weekend all!
@Flaming_Kaiser - Yup, they completely removed the entirety of the D2 campaign along with Mars, Mercury, Titan, Io and The Tangled Shore. The original game and most of the first 3 expansions no longer exists.
@Flaming_Kaiser - Nah mate, it's free to start. There's next to no content in the base D2 game because Bungle removed it all when it went f2p. Everything meaningful is in the paid expansions.
@Beerheadgamer82 - It's the miserable script writing that puts me off a second playthrough, not the world but that's a topic for a whole different place.
