Re: A Lot of PS4 Owners Have Yet to Upgrade to PS5

TheMightyImp2

Well, I play on my PS5 most, but it's usually PS4 games as they run better than on the PS4 pro.
I occasionally boot up my PS4 pro because the PS5 likes to hide PS4 games that are also PS5 games. It's good to check the 4 because you'll miss out on double trophy lists.
The vita is used occasionally, last week I bought an uncharted game.

The fat PS3 that plays all the PS2 and PS1 games I have, sits next to the PS5, wondering what it's done wrong. But at least it's not in a cupboard like my PS1's.
I have a UK and an USA PS2, but that gets used for Gitarooman and dance games with a mat controller.
Even as a day 1 PS5 owner, and owner of three PS5's, I still wouldn't push the PS5 on someone who is still happy with their PS4

Re: Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Fail to Meet Expectations on PS5

TheMightyImp2

Rebirth had the problem of being part of the FFVII trilogy.
Personally, on remake, I couldn't be bothered to do the last few vr fights, or do the entire replay of the game to get my last few trophies. Rebirth is so much better than remake, but not everyone will know that as the first one was very mink coat and no knickers.

FFXVI likely suffered due to the swearing for no reason, and that Dacia voice over guy. I was glad that for once, a Japanese game would not have phrases like 'candy' 'sidewalk' 'gee whizz' or any other American localisation phrases, but even as a Brit, the awful UK voices were jarring after a while. Also, XVI wasn't a real final fantasy. It was more a devil may cry arcade game..
I honestly can't remember ever having to alter my armour, change my weapon for an elemental advantage, or cast a certain spell to maximise damage against individual foes. You just put your best gear on with the best stats and hammer away. Once some people knew of the idiot mode you could enable using rings, it likely deterred some strategy fans as they knew anyone would easily be able to platinum it

Re: The New Free-to-Play Skate Is Going Big on Customisation, Licensed Brands, More

TheMightyImp2

@NinjaNicky
Depends if they are completely cosmetic, or if they give you an advantage permanently, like higher Ollie's,.more stable manuals, etc.
Having played 'happy dungeons' and 'is it wrong to try to chat up girls in a dungeon, battle chronicle' I know only too well that permanent bonuses and new areas you have to pay for that enabled better rankings in competitions do really make a difference.

Re: Stellar Blade: How Long Does It Take to Beat?

TheMightyImp2

Handy article. I haven't taken the plunge yet as talk of 20-30hrs was originally used to describe the game length.

Just out of curiosity due to the 'censorship' hype, is it true the Japan version is uncensored on disc, and if so, does that mean that the Hong Kong version will be too? HK versions are usually the Japanese version with English as an option for select screens at a minimum, from what I've experienced

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Successfully Expanded the Series to New, Younger Players, Says Square Enix

TheMightyImp2

I've been into final fantasy forever.
I came into the franchise very early, and still went backwards to play earlier games.

16 was enjoyable, but it was too simple for a final fantasy game. As some people have already said, more debuffs, buffs, elemental weaknesses etc should have been used, as I remember it as a bit of a one button bashing, wait for super move to charge, use and repeat.

I was also happy to not have the game americanised in it's translation. It really takes you out of the immersion when Japanese characters are saying Jeez, sidewalk, go to the mall, (not exact examples but you get the point)
However, having said that, and being English, the heavy English voice acting got pretty wearing. I remember it as almost a bunch of cockneys, like EastEnders does final fantasy. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I also remember a disproportionate about if swearing, which wasn't necessary.

Re: PS4 Is Still Getting Firmware Update Improvements, By the Way

TheMightyImp2

We still have 4 PS4's in the house. Why wouldn't you? Even with a couple of PS5's, we can still play 6p linked burnout paradise etc..
No one is lingering... The idea that everyone would have sold their PS4 to buy a PS5 is odd, and who do you think bought them? Not gonna be people who don't use them, is it? Of course the PS4 is still alive and well.

Re: Reaction: The Problem with PlayStation Right Now

TheMightyImp2

Quite a short sighted view really.
They will always lose money on hardware.
The PS5 has had 4 revisions that we know of already, and the development of the VR2 would have been very expensive. Seems sony have given up on that faster than the vita.
They will make their money back with the games and the subscriptions..
The thing about this sector is that any money taken, even at small margins, is money not earned by the competition.
Keep on plugging away and slowly kill off your rivals.

Re: Upgraded PS5 Controller with Hugely Improved Battery Life Spotted

TheMightyImp2

@species
I've just watched the tronicsfix videos again and the cosmic red and black controllers are identical to the white ones, but the starlight blue, galactic purple and nova pink controllers have all new boards and slightly altered sticks

The video to watch is called 'sony did something right?! New PS5 controller teardown & comparison'

Re: Upgraded PS5 Controller with Hugely Improved Battery Life Spotted

TheMightyImp2

@species
That does seem unfortunate.

To be fair, I have 5 white ones, that I no longer use since I got the first blue and red ones, I also use a black one, a purple one, and a Spider-Man controller.
I've never used my camo one, I have another red and blue one.

Maybe the colour ones are more robust, but I doubt it, as tronicsfix disassembled them at launch and they (red and blue) were identical inside.

I'm pretty sure the Spider-Man controller has a different board, as it has different connections to the rumble motors..

Maybe white ones die faster? But to be clear, the only reason I don't use my white ones anymore is because I bought (or had bought for me) coloured controllers.

Re: Upgraded PS5 Controller with Hugely Improved Battery Life Spotted

TheMightyImp2

@Sil_Am
Agreed. I have 12 controllers (7 in my family, 2 PS5's)
None of them have ever got stick drift, despite the youngest players being 7 at the time, and they are twins, so if anyone is gonna give the sticks a workout it's competitive 7 year olds!
Never had drift on Any of my DS4's either.

Must be a dirty hand thing.. I guess either people press down on the sticks while using them, or allow bits of food to get in the base of the sticks.

The only issue I've ever had with Dualsense is a broken R2 spring, and that controller was replaced under warranty due to 'maneater' being an R2 destroying free game on PSN back in the day!

Re: Upgraded PS5 Controller with Hugely Improved Battery Life Spotted

TheMightyImp2

I have an embarrassing amount of controllers. I have 5 out of box at any one time, 4 permanently on charge on two official charge docks in a line, cable under the other one, nice and neat.. and one by my gaming seat.
In an average day of gaming with a bit of streaming from YouTube, netflix etc, I'll swap pads to the chargers twice a day.

So four hours is probably about right.

If they have extended battery life.of the new controller, it's probably due to more efficient motors in the rumble and haptics, and also maybe the battery is now a couple of batteries instead of the one big slab.

It really wasn't in PlayStation's interest to have long lasting controllers in the beginning, because they sold more controllers and charging docks due to poor battery performance. We die hard early adopters put up with it, because it's new.. but now that everyone and his cat can get hold of a PS5, they are having to get a little bit more efficient as the general population just won't put up with that battery life.

Re: Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection Will Be Removed from PS5, PS4 Very Soon

TheMightyImp2

@Bez87
You are probably joking, but just incase you aren't, limited run games bring digital release games and release a physical copy, of few units, like 5,000 or whatever.
They are pretty expensive, usually you buy it well in advance like a Kickstarter, and you get it long after you forgot you ordered it.
I have a few of them, including the first ever ps5 limited run release. And a few PS4 ones

Re: Turns Out You Won't Lose Access to Those Discovery TV Shows on PlayStation After All

TheMightyImp2

People saying you rent rather than buy.
I under the licenses situation. But there is a solution. Sony either refunds all money paid by purchasers, or they negotiate a deal that allows the sales to be final,. similar to 'the pinball arcade' losing the Bally licenses for future sale, but previous purchasers are still allowed access.

Sony paying a ton for stuff that was bought ages ago won't make Sony money. It will cost a lot. But it will restore a little confidence in Sony for existing customers.

And many movies have rent or buy. If we allow this to happen, all bought items become rental, and that's not a good situation

Re: PS5 Stock: Where To Buy PlayStation 5 and PS5 Slim in December 2023

TheMightyImp2

What a useful article. There I was, standing in line at the hairdresser's, all excited to buy a console I got on release day years ago, and this article saved me the embarrassment of informing me that they are available from every retailer you'd expect them to be.

This isn't an article, it's just a list. ..still, it worked 300+ of us commented

Re: Amazingly, 1,200 Skins Will Get Free LEGO Makeovers in Fortnite

TheMightyImp2

Firstly.. wow, that's pretty.good value getting free skins from a company that drags money out of parents for a free game as effectively as they do. So that's good, I guess.

Secondly, I'm ancient, and i'll be playing Fortnite with my kids when the Lego survival bit Launches, and I'll be checking out the rocket league part too.

Thirdly, this is something like the most popular game of all time, or top three or something. It's certainly a game, and it's kept my kids playing since October 2020 when I bought all 5 of them all Fortnite special edition Nintendo switches on release day.. saved me a fortune on playstation games. They hardly play anything else!

Saved me a ton

Re: PlayStation Users Set to Lose Hundreds of TV Shows They Paid For

TheMightyImp2

I have loads of seasons of SpongeBob on the PS3 that my kids used to watch.. but they weren't from discovery, so it's all good.
In an ideal world, sony would refund all the purchases, as they have made interest etc off the purchases that were probably from ages ago, and it's just a good practice thing to look after your customers.

Re: Random: Yorkshire Tea Is Brewing Up a Custom PS5 Controller for Some Reason

TheMightyImp2

This will likely become the next ultra collectable peripheral. Like a 500 million PS4 controller, or the 500 million headphones.
This is crazy expensive, and that in itself makes it less likely to be bought in huge numbers.. this scarcity will drive the price up for collectors..
I have way too many controllers.. but I'd love this one of they want to send me a review sample to keep!

Re: 11 PS5, PS4 Games Are Leaving PS Plus Extra in December 2023

TheMightyImp2

@Ravix a good idea.oa either to put games in folders of when they joined the line up, or even into folders labelled when they are leaving the service.

That way, if you aren't that I to some of these games and your go to game is getting a bit boring, you can scan your folders for stuff leaving soon and maybe give them a try before they go

Re: Court Rules £5 Billion Lawsuit Against Sony Can Go Ahead, Following Years of 'Excessive' PS Store Prices

TheMightyImp2

Wow, I'm gonna get so much money back, I spend loads in the store, lol!
Digital games are way too expensive in the store. Disc is always cheaper if you shop around, and this is the point.. you can't shop around in the digital store. You can wait for sales.. you can search for games under £5 etc.. but the lack of competition has lead to really expensive games, and then loads of absolute trash free on mobile but pay on PlayStation games.
The series of jump games, jumping games, and flappy bird type games are the scourge of the playstation store. I'm sure these are there to make average prices look better.
