Re: Interview: Falcom President Talks All Things Trails, Daybreak 2, and Kai in Our Biggest Interview Ever

belmont

Thanks this is one of the best articles I have read here.

That said this may be a semi unpopular opinion but I feel sort of tired with the Trails series. It seems that the central story is going nowhere with the villains (?) only doing some sort of experiments. Also, a specific city is occupied by bizarre forces each year and most villains have been redeemed in recycling storylines.

Re: Castlevania Dominus Collection Gathers Dawn of Sorrow and Its DS Brethren on PS5, and It's Out Now

belmont

Oh my, finally a title that leverages the full potential of my €500 PS5. Clearly, those titles cannot run at the PS4. Also, where is the overpriced LRG version? Now, there is no way I am buying the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection, it is on PS4 only and graphics suck.

More seriously, they should release a PS4 version. Regardless, since you can probably guess from my username, I am a huge Castlevania fan and I have physical copies of the original DS versions that I really like and revisit occasionally. I highly recommend the collection, runs also great in the Steam Deck.

Now, excluding the 3D games, the only high profile 2D games that are not available on modern platforms are HoD and Rebirth. Still, I understand why SotN and RoB are PS4 exclusives, they use the Sony developed PSP emulator but it is strange that they are not on Steam or Switch one way or another.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Beta Begins This Week, with 'Adaptive' Controller Charging, Custom 3D Audio, More

belmont

I do not follow the community closely, but I am sure most don't care about those features and want themes, proper folders and USB back up of PS5 only saves.

At least now I can check for updates for games not in the home screen, although they still don't update automatically.

As for me I only want save backup via USB. The did it on PS3 and PS4 but not on PS5...

Re: Poll: One Year Later, What Are Your Thoughts on Final Fantasy 16?

belmont

I am a huge Final Fantasy fan. That said FF16 is a great action game but has issues a FF game. There is non real strategy, you mash buttons, there are no elemental weaknesses or an easy way to cure yourself. The Final Fantasy mode was a letdown.

But the worst thing is the story. There is huge and excellent backstory and lore. But the whole events from the game as non sensical even if you apply video game logic. The team basically helped in the destruction of the world and all major cities have been destroyed.

They gave up in the ending. They didn't know what ending to do and we had this surreal thing where either if the 3 characters that were there may or may not be dead.

Rebirth is a much better game than 16.

Re: Preview: Tales of the Shire Lets You Live a Homely Hobbit Life Set Before Lord of the Rings

belmont

@Matroska I am not the only one that thought the same, lol I thought it was from Crystal Chronicles of My Life as a King.

Am I the only one that thinks that current technology can replicate the actual battles and set pieces from Tolkien like the 5 Armies or Helm's Deep, stuff the fans are actually interested in? Instead we get a Harvest Moon game and whatever Gollum or the Dwarf roguelike game was...

Re: These Are All the PS5, PS4 Announcements from the Latest Nintendo Direct

belmont

@themightyant @get2sammyb This is not maybe the ideal place for this discussion, but I agree that the PS5 generation has been good. The hardware is good and there are some cool games. Now that said the criticism that this generation feels a bit underwhelming or that the PS5 feels like a PS4 Pro 2 with a M2 SSD is valid sometimes.

Releasing major games in PS4 and PC did not help the perception. I know there are others but when from the top of my head the only PS5 exclusives I can think of are Final Fantasy games and Spiderman 2 and we know that they are coming to PC and even a budget gaming laptop or a steam deck may play them adequately so why bother to get a PS5?

Even though I got a PS5 for Final Fantasy 16 I travelled a lot for work the last couple of years and I opted to carry a PS4 and a Steam Deck and I didn't feel that I missed anything. I played GOW Ragnarok, Horizon, Resident Evil 4, Village, the Pixel Remaster of FF, the Ryza trilogy and much more with hardware I already had.

Re: These Are All the PS5, PS4 Announcements from the Latest Nintendo Direct

belmont

You obviously need the immense power of PS5 to run Dragon Quest 3 HD. There is no way this game can run in the PS4.

Seriously though I am glad that the Ace Attorney series will be finally complete, even though the Edgeworth games are not IMHO as interesting as the main series games.

All stuff from Square was cool and the Marvel VS Capcom collection is a good addition, I always enjoyed their retro collections.

@themightyant It really depends on the games you play. If I wasn't a huge Final Fantasy fan I wouldn't have got the PS5, in fact I bought one when it was clear that FF16 would not have a PS4 version or a PC version near launch. More games will come within the next years obviously but if it wasn't for FF, I wouldn't be in a rush to get the PS5.

Re: Preview: LEGO Horizon Adventures Is an Unexpected But Very Pleasant Surprise

belmont

Wow this is a waste of resources!

In a more serious comment, I never thought that Horizon would work as a Lego game since you know, mankind destroyed and all. I still think that the end of HFW and the DLC were massive letdowns as far as the story is concerned...

Edit: Now that I think about it how can Sony release something in Switch and not in PS4? I guess it could sell well.

Re: PS5, PS4's Brand New PS2 Emulator Features Up-Rendering, Rewind, Quick Saves, More

belmont

I always try to support emulation and game preservation. That said some high profile PS2 games have already been re-released. Tomb Raider Legend is cool but in sales you can get it in Steam for 5 € or something. Seems that Sony is genuinely interested or more interested than last time when they released some games in PS2.

Seems that few third parties are supporting the PS classics though, Namco being one of the few examples. Even Sony releases its own games slowly but some were not even that popular back in the day.

I suggest getting a Steam Deck or something similar and rip your own disks, better for preservation and availability.

Re: Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered Earns Physical Edition, Out in September

belmont

For some reason the Deluxe edition has only PS5 and not PS4 version?

As for LRG I don't get why the create "scarcity" themselves on their products. Due to "fomo" I got the Castlevania Requem and the first collection but missed the advance and now I can't buy it, not that I need it since I have digital versions and the old cartridges of all the games from back in the day.

Also, their shipping to EU is expensive. A 30 dollar game does not include VAT so all 30 dollar games end costing about 60 euros.

Re: Square Enix to 'Aggressively' Pursue Multiplatform Strategy from Now On

belmont

Cool, now I can finally sell my PS5 since the only games I have are Final Fantasy 16 and 7 Rebirth!!

On a more serious note, I also have some other games but I got them in PS4 and upgraded them like Resident Evil 4 and Horizon Forbidden West but PS5 is a Final Fantasy machine, but I could live without it if I wasn't a HUGE FF fan.

By the way 7 Remake Integrade is on Steam and runs perfectly on my Steam Deck. Still I am sure that Son has already bought the exclusivity of Remake Part 3 to be released on PS6.

By the way FF has an audience in PC, 16 and Rebirth will sell well on Steam if the ports are good.

Re: Physical Backers of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Hit with Unexpected Shipping Costs

belmont

@dskatter When you buy a game, regardless of distribution, you don't buy the software but a license to run the software. This was always the case. The disk simply saves you some download time.

It is true that even if they revoke the licenses, for whatever reason, you could still play the game offline. However, I can list you a lot of PS4 games that are unplayable offline. The most horrific example is the Callisto Protocol. The game runs in slow motion if you don't update it! I have three different retail versions of FF15 and not a single one has the whole game included in the disk!

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Patch 1.030 Is the Platinum Trophy Fixer, Plus More

belmont

For some reason I was not hit with this bug. I have to beat the final two chapters on hard, beat some MINI GAMES IN HARD (I HATE THEM ALL especially the pull ups and the battle arena) and I have some of the Brutal and Legendary challenges. I don't think I can platinum the game. I have the platinum in the first game but I after this they patched some new extra bosses in vr that crush me and I have never beat them.

So far I had only one MAJOR issue. A Brutal VR quest always crashes in me if I used Aeroga and I am in the Graphics mode.

Another minor bug is that in the final boss of chapter 12 Cloud had zero hp and I could still play until I was hit again.

Re: PS5 Pro's Proprietary DLSS-Esque Upscaler Sounds Superb

belmont

I get that maybe development on PS5 Pro started before it seemed that cross gen would not stop and it seems to be a good piece of hardware but the issues are the games. PS5 has three exclusives, Spidey 2, FF16 and FF7 Rebirth and all are coming to PC, the FF games relatively rather sooner than later. Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok and the Resident Evils games played adequate on my launch PS4 model and I really enjoed them there. I know that I am in the minority that plays mostly games from japan but if PS5 didn't have FF it would loose major selling points for me.

More on topic I was skeptical on the PS4 Pro, it seemed useless to me. But when I finally got one and swapped the drive with a "good" SSD I really enjoyed it. PS5 Pro sounds a cool piece of hardware but the cpu may bottleneck it. AI upscale is a good idea but it may lead to more unoptimised games.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available to Download Now

belmont

@sanderson72 You are right, I totally forgot this. I also have a PS4 with an internal SSD and it downloads up to three stuff simultaneously, if I recall correct. However, as you stated the "copy" can be extremely slow in any PlayStation console depending on set up. It surely is very slow in some cases.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available to Download Now

belmont

@kirkn The PS5 is an impressive piece of hardware and I am very happy with it, even though the only real exclusives are Final Fantasy games which was the selling point for me either way.

That said the OS is bad with frustrating menus, lots of useless options. Some processes like copying games are very slow, the media support is subpar, no actual folder support. And the most bizarre of all games not in the home screen do not update automatically and there is no way to back up PS5 saves.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available to Download Now

belmont

@E5115271 You can only back up PS4 saves on USB, not PS5 ones. And their paid PS Plus cloud saves doesn't even work well. It has some bizarre sort of limit on how many save files you have. When I was a subscriber, it always told me that I am out of space even though I was not even close to the actual GB limit.
