Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available from Today in Phased Launch

belmont

@themightyant I rarely play more than two games but this weekend I decided to revisit the fonal boss on all Final Fantasy games using my old saves. I tried Final Fantasy 1, it had an update, I moved to play 2 another update, in the end all had updates except 10 and 12, even the 7 Remake / Rebirth. I ended up playing nothing... If updates worked as they should I would have been ready to go regardless of what I wanted to play. And not updating the games is bad from the preservation point of view. I sometimes take my consoles in work trips and play offline

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available from Today in Phased Launch

belmont

@Zeke68 Yeah, but the limit is not clearly stated anywhere. It sure is a bizarre way to punish loyal customers that buy and play a lot of games. I did something better than deleting the saves: I cancelled PS plus and backed up the saves in two different USB sticks and two different consoles. I cannot do this in PS5 but the only games I have are the FF16 and 7 Rebirth and I can live without having those back ups. I also backed up the saves of PS3 and Vita with similar methods.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available from Today in Phased Launch

belmont

@Zeke68 Yeah, it only updates the games in the home screen. Save upload doesn't work either. It always says I am out of space in the cloud, although that is not the case. I have automatic updates enabled. Apparently there is a hidden limit in the actual number of PS4 savefiles you can upload!!!!!

@themightyant I get that, even though it is very bad for game presentation and AI and cloud backups of not useful data consume much more enery of a few MB of download. It is frustrating to always have to manually update all the Final Fantasy games. In Xbox you can check for all updates with the press of a button, you don't have to check one by one. In Steam it slowly updates all games in the background automatically.

Re: New PS5 Firmware Update Available from Today in Phased Launch

belmont

OK this is getting beyond ridiculous with updates that add nothing. I was in my hometown for a couple of days and whatever I tried to play had some sort of update. The console had an update, all Final Fantasy games had updates, Resident Evil 4 had update, the whole console had updates. After all those years STILL PS5 DOES NOT UPDATE GAMES AUTOMATICALLY for some reason. And to check every update by hand is a pain with the clunky OS. The same happened when I opened the PS4. It also updates nothing automatically.

Re: Everyone's Wondering Whether Sony Will Block PS5 Games on Xbox's Rumoured PC Hardware

belmont

Can they even block yhem though? It would be like blocking a game in Steam Deck. Even they blocked them it would be trivial to unblock them if the console runs Windows. But why would they block them? Almost all Sony games are Steam Deck verified which means that they sell their games in owners of the Deck. I have certainly bought a lot of them during discounts. I imagine something similar will happen with Xbox

Re: Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land (PS5) - Relentlessly Charming JRPG Is a Must Play

belmont

Believe or not I am a huge fan of the Atelier series since I casually bought Atelier Rorona, the original version, for cheap from a local store. Since then I have bought all the games, some of them multiple times, I have beaten all of them and I have the platinum trophy in most of them. Since I started moving to Steam I have already preordered Yumia and hopefully the game will run dine in my Sream Deck

Re: Steam Deck's Install Base Estimated to Be About a Third of PS Vita

belmont

I love my Steam Deck. I have preordered the cheapest version when preorders opened and since then I have upgraded the ssd and also bought the Dock. Steam Deck and the Vita are the only consoles I have ever preordered. Since I got one it made all other consoles I have a bit irrelevant. For example in PS5 I got only the Final Fantasy games.

Re: PS5 Maker Faces Lawsuit Over So-Called 'Sony Tax' on Digital Games

belmont

@Foxhound I don't know what happens in Netherlands but in my region, for newly released games, if you add shipping costs to physical games the pricing is almost evenly matched. So, for Silent Hill 2 both digital and physical versions cost about 80€ so I simply bought the steam version for about 50€ from green man gaming or cd keys, I don't remember exactly.

Re: Trails through Daybreak 2 (PS5) - Adjust Your Expectations for This Slick But Strange Trails Sequel

belmont

It may just be me but, even though I played the Trails games since the first one in PSP, it seems that the excellent world building has not been realised to its fool potential with repeated storylines, trying to redeem previous villains and a main (?) plot that seems to go nowhere. In any case I am still a fan and I will try the new game but, to be fair, I am more interested in the next game.

Re: Spider-Man 2's Looking Like Another PC Own Goal from Sony

belmont

I think the PC port situation somewhat devalues the PS5. If you exclude retro re releases the only game I bought on PS5 last year was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I chose to play Silent Hill 2 in Steam at a better price than what Sony asked for. Same for the Remake of Horizon and for Spider-Man 2. If I wasn't a huge Final Fantasy fan I would have waited for the PC port of Rebirth. By the way you now can earn trophies in Sony PC games.

I guess it is only a matter of time before someone changes the models of Peter and MJ to the PS4 ones. The new are so comic inaccurate it hearts.

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

belmont

A fantastic reveal. We had no specs, no games, no price, no release date. Seems that they planned to do the reveal later when all of the above were finalized and the leakers forced their hand.

I personally have no interest in the Switch 2. It will probably be an overpriced and underpowered piece of uncomfortable to use hardware, like the Switch and the 3DS. Also, even though I love the Game Boy / DS line I mostly played 3rd party games (that are now a thing of the past) and I have no personal connection with any Nintendo franchise.

Re: Talking Point: Is PlayStation Right in Saying PC Isn't a 'Major Risk' to Console Business?

belmont

Since I got my Steam Deck I slowly transition there. In fact the only PS4/5 games I got after I bought the Steam Deck are Final Fantasy 16, Rebirth and PSone Classics like Dino Crisis and Ridge Racer. Some other recent games like Silent Hill 2 and Tekken 8 I played them in the Deck much cheaper than the 80 euros Sony asks for them. In fact if I was not a Final Fantasy fan I may have not even bought the PS5 yet since PS4 + Steam Deck is enough. In the last two years I played Resident Evil 4, Horizon Forbidden West and GOW Ragnarök in my launch PS4 without issues.

As for PS6 it depends on its price (hopefully it won't cost 700 euros, although it may be expensive) and the games. Since Final Fantasy and Japanese games in general seem to have Steam versions I think it may even be irrelevant for me. That said, some Steam ports are not great, the Ryza games had issues in some graphic cards.

Re: Nintendo Fans Are Desperate to Know How Close Switch 2 Will Get to PS4's Power

belmont

I am going to say an unpopular opinion. Nintendo games are irrelevant to me and I have no interest in a new Nintendo platform regardless of how powerful it is. Since third party exclusive games are a thing of the past I think my PS4/5 and Steam Deck cover me 100%. It is true that I love the Game Boy and DS family of systems but I mostly played third party exclusives, especially Japanese games. Those games simply don't exist on Switch so I have not much interest in it.

Re: 74% of PS5 Fans Would Be Interested in a Handheld

belmont

To be fair since I got the Steam Deck I am slowly moving there. And even if the new handheld plays PS5 or PS4 games natively they would be the digital versions and if the device doesn't sell well Sony will probably abandon it. And if it is abandoned developers may not optimise the games for it or the fans will claim that a handheld will hold the games back like what they say for the Series S console.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Want a Steam Deck-Like Portable PlayStation?

belmont

I personally love my Steam Deck. That said PSP and Vita are some of my favourite hardware devices of all time. With the Steam Deck I like the versatility. I can play in the Deck or in a PC and the saves are automatically uploaded. In Sony's case the portable will be more expensive from the 399€ I paid for it and you still have to pay PS plus for the cross save. It clearly depends if you have an extensive library.

A new portable device may not go well with enthusiasts. They will claim the same stuff they say for Series S that the new games will be scaled down etc.

Re: The Callisto Protocol Haunts in 8K with Huge PS5 Pro Patch

belmont

The Callisto Protocol might be the most broken game you can play from the disk without updating. I have the PS4 disk and the game, after the end of chapter one, plays literally like a slow motion replay from a football game. I was not a big fan of the battle system but I enjoyed the story up to the ending that was hilariously bad.

Re: Random: Forward-Thinking PlayStation Gamer Spends $2,000 on 24 Years of PS Plus

belmont

@DennisReynolds It really depends in what games you play. I mostly enjoy games from Japan so I needed a PS5 because I love Final Fantasy but in the end of the day PS5 has no exclusives except Final Fantasy Rebirth (and this not for much more probably) and the only reason I got one was to play the Final Fantasy games day one. If I was not a fan I may have not got the PS5 yet. I was perfectly happy to play Resident Evil Village, the remake of 4, Ragnarok and Forbidden West in my launch PS4 and now I play Silent Hill 2 in my PC.

Re: In Europe, 78% of Silent Hill 2 Copies Were Purchased on PS5

belmont

@Loamy It runs adequately for a 400 euro device. The frame rate tanks in some boss battles and in some close quarters battles but when you are out in the city the immersion is not lost. If you are familiar with the game now I play the next to last boss and in the third phase the frame rate is not good but I don't mind it that much. Sound always works great.

As for settings apparently with the new patch they have introduced Steam Deck settings but I have fullscreen, resolution same as the Deck's screen and the others at low.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025

belmont

@PuppetMaster It is doesn't work the same way, Steam vs PSN. If I use VPN I to change the region say from UK to France. You still manually have to change in Steam settings UK to France. It doesn't care if you use VPN. Also, to change France to UK there is a cool time period for a couple of weeks. In addition to that if want to buy games from the France store and I only have a UK credit card I can't, I need a French one or a way to buy France Steam prepaid cards. And still if you have a lot of games you wouldn't risk having the account suspended.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025

belmont

@PuppetMaster This is against the Steam terms and if you get caught you will have your account terminated. Imagine one being in the EU and change the region to Argentina to buy games very cheap. Moreover, you need a debit or credit card from the same country as your region to buy games on Steam.

There are ways around all those but it is simply too much.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025

belmont

@TrickyDicky99 No, I don't think this works. You cannot even buy the game in the countries without PSN, Steam does not offer the game for purchase. Maybe you could fool Steam somehow to think you are in UK for example. This violates the terms and conditions of both Steam and PSN.

Re: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Web Swings to PC in January 2025

belmont

Finally, I hope modders patch in the game characters that actually look like the comic book counterparts. PS5 has zero exlusives now.

In a serious note I haven't played the game yet, I may get the PC version if it plays adequate on the Steam Deck. Why do they force the PSN account is beyond me. It is not that they offer PSN trophies or cross save.

Re: Interview: Falcom President Talks All Things Trails, Daybreak 2, and Kai in Our Biggest Interview Ever

belmont

Thanks this is one of the best articles I have read here.

That said this may be a semi unpopular opinion but I feel sort of tired with the Trails series. It seems that the central story is going nowhere with the villains (?) only doing some sort of experiments. Also, a specific city is occupied by bizarre forces each year and most villains have been redeemed in recycling storylines.

Re: Castlevania Dominus Collection Gathers Dawn of Sorrow and Its DS Brethren on PS5, and It's Out Now

belmont

Oh my, finally a title that leverages the full potential of my €500 PS5. Clearly, those titles cannot run at the PS4. Also, where is the overpriced LRG version? Now, there is no way I am buying the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection, it is on PS4 only and graphics suck.

More seriously, they should release a PS4 version. Regardless, since you can probably guess from my username, I am a huge Castlevania fan and I have physical copies of the original DS versions that I really like and revisit occasionally. I highly recommend the collection, runs also great in the Steam Deck.

Now, excluding the 3D games, the only high profile 2D games that are not available on modern platforms are HoD and Rebirth. Still, I understand why SotN and RoB are PS4 exclusives, they use the Sony developed PSP emulator but it is strange that they are not on Steam or Switch one way or another.
