Re: Poll: How Long Should Games Be?

eaglebob345

The games that have endless play time, like Monster Hunter, can have a 30+ story but it's not really needed. The gameplay loop is why people are there for a long time. Pokemon is similar, but the older games had much better endgame activities. All that said, a Mario game with a 60+ hour story would be so weird. You can push 60+ hours out of a Mario game easily without even needing a story, just content alone.

Re: Poll: How Long Should Games Be?

eaglebob345

It depends entirely on the game, genre, and story being constructed. Xenoblade's 60+ hour story was a great length with great build up. However, older Pokemon games, like Emerald and Platinum, had a 30+ hour story and that was the perfect length to me. Meanwhile, Bravely Default was entirely too long. That game could've been 30 hours long and the story would've been better for it. And that's just JRPGs.

Re: Death Stranding and Famitsu Under Fire in Japan as Fans Question Cameo Following Perfect Review Score

eaglebob345

@3MonthBeef I am also conflicted on the 10/10 scores. A perfect score insinuates that the pros far outweigh the cons for a game, but when the gap between reviews is so vast where some of the cons and pros interwine, it becomes a little suspicious to me. From various reviews reviews, I've seen the monotonously repetitious gameplay, weird cameos, and more be listed as pros and cons. Of course, that is expected from varying opinions. However, nearly every time I saw these things listed as pros, it's because of some kind of obsession with Kojima. It feels like a good amount of those perfect scores are biased, based on love for Kojima rather than the game. Most of the reviews boiled down to "boring, slow, and repetitive; 10/10 Great story, fun movie, love Kojima".

Re: Death Stranding Achieves a Rare Perfect Score from Japanese Bible Famitsu

eaglebob345

Kid Icarus: Uprising definitely should not have gotten a perfect score anywhere. I'm left-handed, so I had to completely remap the controls just to play it, and those options were pretty poor. The original controls were horrendous otherwise. The game's story was fun, but it lacked a key areas. Not as bad as Kid Icarus, but Monster Hunter 3 should not have gotten a perfect score either. The normal gameplay was fun enough, but those underwater hunts were terrible.
They made the already iffy controls so much worse.

I think the problem with these "perfect scores" is that reviewers are just awarding these games the score they want them to have, rather than scoring the games on their own merit. I've watched and read a lot of Death Stranding reciews, and I've seen so many reviewers gloss over the obvious flaws of Death Stranding because it's a Kojima game. I struggle to see how something labeled as "boring" and "not fun" on multiple occasions should be getting any number of perfect scores. None of the reviews I've seen, aside from the ones gushing about Kojima, even read like they were for a 90+ game. Being bold enough to try something different, fetch quests obviously aren't new, doesn't mean something is good.

Re: Talking Point: Is E3 Still Relevant?

eaglebob345

@Frigate Exactly. It is a relevant as we make it. Even this site has made it very relevant.

I think the fact that this site that caters to Playstation fans covered the lion's share of E3, even though Sony wasn't even present, and that most of the last two weeks of discussion were directly about E3 or something related to it shows that it is still very relevant. Besides, if Sony waited a week and had a very light showing at E3, say Death Stranding and TLOU2 release dates, we would be flooded with "Did Sony win E3!?!?" posts and articles on just this site alone. Heck, even if Sony still didn't attend E3 but they dropped Death Stranding's trailer during E3, we would STILL being hearing about how they won E3. Overall, I think E3 is very relevant for the industry. It gives off an "all eyes on you" feeling that other conventions just can't replicate. It's like how anyone can drops some trailers or host an event themselves, like PS State of Play, but the direct comparison they get is with a Nintendo Direct. Nintendo worked up to that level of relevance, just like how E3 did.

Re: EA Won't Be Hosting a Press Conference at E3 2019

eaglebob345

It'll be interesting to see how E3 moves from here. I don't think it is as irrelevant as people say. It is THE gaming event of the Summer, in the US at least. I think a lot more companies are going to go the digital presentation route, like Nintendo. I do think Sony will be back though, when they have more to show.

Re: Spider-Man PS4's Puddle Drama Is An Absolute Embarrassment

eaglebob345

I think it's a graphical change like how Xenoblade Chronicles 2 had, not necessarily a downgrade. Although, the change would be kinda the opposite: XC2 was shinier and Spiderman is less shiny. XC2 has more detail to the characters in a anime-esque way. I don't know how to post pictures, but I'd post the shot I have if I did.

Re: Poll: Do You Want Another Portable PlayStation?

eaglebob345

I would love to be able to have a portable version of their games, rather than just stream like with the Vita. I am skeptical of Sony as far as handhelds are concerned though, I don't want to buy a Vita. If they had a Switch-like console that was PS4 game compatible I would consider it, but then it would end up in the switchuation (hehe, see what I did there?) where they would have to sacrifice something to get it to run on the portable version. Honestly, I think it is entirely possible. They could handle it much in the way that they are doing the PS4 and the PS4 Pro.

Re: Sony Switches Off PlayStation TV Shipments in Japan

eaglebob345

I got a Vita for Black Friday last year, it's a nifty device. Too bad it didn't get the recognition it deserved. Those awful memory card prices are to blame as well as Sony's lack of real support. That said, I do kinda want a Vita TV because I want to show off some of my Vita games on the TV. I wish the 3DS had something like this, or streaming capabilities to the Wii U. Can you stream Vita games to PS3/4 or is it that you can only stream PS3/4 games to Vita?

Re: Naughty Dog: We Can Put Together a Really Great Add-on for Uncharted 4

eaglebob345

@TomKongPhooey Exactly. If the game was already out, that's one thing, but the game is LITERALLY half a year away...

@adf86 They should plan all they want, but mentioning DLC for a game SIX (6) MONTHS AWAY A.K.A. HALF A YEAR AWAY is just sad. If you call being saddened by the fact that a great company is talking about gouging their consumers with DLC when the game is so far away entitlement, then you don't really know what entitlement means. If anything, Naughty Dog are the ones who feel they have entitlement. When Activision, EA, Ubisoft, SE, etc. advertise DLC with a product coming out less than six months away, they get chastised for it. But since it is Naughty Dog, they think it's okay, and you're okay with it? I'm not saying any of them are right (Naughty Dog being just as wrong as the rest) and, day one or not, you do have to admit that this business practices is BS.

Re: Wii U Exclusive Zombi Officially Reanimated on PS4

eaglebob345

THey could have reworked it... It looked like a rather ugly Wii U game when it released, now it's an even worse "Next-gen" game. I'm still going to get it on the Wii U one day. I tried the demo, but it was a bit too bland for me. I wish they made a much better sequel instead of this.

Re: Sony: We Aren't Making Vita Games Because of Consumer Expectations

eaglebob345

@Kohaku Their abandonment of the Vita, and just about every accessory they make, is why I'm so skeptical of the Morpheus. Sony can hype all they want but when things get hairy they'll probably drop Morpheus support, too. If they took a step back, renamed the Vita, made it slightly more powerful (future proof it), added PSP BC with the mini-discs, and started using SD cards, I would be more inclined to actually buy one (more of a pipe dream, really). The memory card thing is so obvious it hurts, yet they are too oblivious to realize it. Even if they ignored everything I said and just heavily dropped the price of the memory cards, I think it could help sales. As for games, port some PS3 and PS4 games over. They could hire a small, dedicated Vita team to get games onto the Vita. Heck, they could pull a Nintendo and fund lots of smaller spin-off games of their franchises to build onto franchises. As well as the PS4 is doing, it is appalling to see them drop support for one-third of the 8th generation consoles they sold. There should be a poll for who would consider buying another Handheld Sony Console after the Vita and for how many people on the site have one (I'm curious now).

Re: Sony: We Aren't Making Vita Games Because of Consumer Expectations

eaglebob345

I'd have upgraded to a Vita long ago if a Kingdom Hearts game landed on the system. It was one of the many reasons for me to get a 3DS and the reason I got a PSP. I even folded and got a PS3 for KH2.5. Who knows, if I enjoy Uncharted as much as I want to, I may get a Vita for that. I heard Soul Sacrifice was like Monster Hunter so i may consider one for that, too.

Seems like Nintendo and Sony are more alike than people want to believe. Only difference is that Nintendo refuses to give up on the Wii U until the end, while Sony gave up on the Vita long ago and is finally admitting it, even though it is a very sorry excuse. Based on the eighth generation alone, I won't consider buying another Sony handheld console if this is how they answer to hardship. However, I'd consider buying another Nintendo home console because they at least respect us consumers enough to tough it out (though next time I'll try not to get one so early).
