@Sunnyviji I have, however, no matter how many times I do this I still get this effect. I see relatively sharp in the middle, but it gets more blurry towards the sides, and I can't find the sweet spot - maybe I just have to manually find the right distance? I'll play around. Optitians tell me I have eagle eyes, so that may have something to do with it as well.

Re: Belgium Reckons Loot Boxes Are Gambling, Wants Them Banned in Europe

I guess with the physical card games randomness is part of the joy i.e. you get together with friends and exchange cards, that's what we used to do as kids. If that was enabled for online, I wouldn't have an issue.
I'm still not personally sure if I have an issue with random loot boxes - you know you will get SOMETHING every time, whereas gambling to me is 'something sometimes' vs 'nothing most of the time'. I guess this falls in the middle.
I guess the point they are trying to make is that it can be as addictive as gambling, the same 'hook' is there as garbage loot could represents the 'nothing' of gambling and that's when you could start getting into trouble buying 'just one more loot box'.

@MadAussieBloke Just renewed PS+ after a couple of months of not having it, so downloaded 'for free', with all other free demos and experiences, which will all be there by the time I get back home. Had RIGS on my list from before PS+ expiry, so will check that out. Can't wait to play all of it.

I've been having fun in Playroom VR last night! Wow! I just wished the quality was a little less blurry, and the field of vision could've been greater, but hey, minor complaints for the immersion you get. My parcel did not contain Skyrim, sadly, as it should've - turns out they split the order so I need to go back to the shop again to pick it up. I will share my impressions once I had a go (never played it!). Also, I am yet to set up my Move controllers.

Edit: also had no issues with motion sickness, I knew I was not prone to it, if anything the mismatch between what I see and what my body is feeling is exhilarating. I need to check out those roller-coaster youtube videos....

Re: Naughty Dog Responds to Sexual Harassment Allegations

It's a very positive sign that people are speaking up in the wake of the Weinstein scandal. I wish him well and hope he wil get justice he deserves, if the allegations are true. He seemed to have gone through a lot since he left ND, so something clearly wasn't right.

Re: Hands On: Is Skyrim Any Good with PlayStation VR?

@get2sammyb ...which I don't know yet if I will suffer from VR and Skyrim are on my Xmas shopping list, worst case I will play with the pad, but the idea of using both hands tracked was very appealing, for that to work I need smooth movement (I think!).

This teleportation thing is a deal breaker, I never used move or VR, am I right in thinking that you basically stand still at all times, and just 'jump' around from a fixed place to another, and then use whatever the control scheme allows for from there? This is ridiculous, isn't there a d-pad on move or something? Crazy.

Re: Soapbox: Open World OCD - How Too Much Content Can Ruin a Game

finalstan

Excellent article, reflecting my thoughts exactly. I will add another one of my own: I don't think it's necessarily OCD. The hook of not knowing what's around the corner, at the end of the quest - the immediate reward - is what keeps us chasing those marks on a map etc. I imagine it's linked to the hormone release in our brains every time we achieve something - you need that sword or armor, you want to earn it. The bigger picture that is emerging, however, is exactly as you say. Paraphrasing: the balance is completely lost between story and side-content, the challenge developers have is striking a perfect one.
One exception to this are games that manage to create big worlds, which make us feel like visitors, strangers almost, playing only a small part in the grand scheme of things. The world truly has to be the main character in the game, then it works well I think. I think I've yet to experience a game with a big world and relatively small , but interesting, storyline (small as measured by the impact on that world). Something more character-driven, maybe? I'd love to play such a game.

Re: So Middle-earth: Shadow of War Has Multiplayer on Top of Microtransactions

finalstan

This game went from 'must get' through to 'hmm, not sure' straight into 'not getting it ever'. I don't mind microtransactions/MP in games, I almost never use the former (I bought an outfit once for a character in Freedom Wars on Vita, that's it) and very rarely the latter. I get that it makes sense from a profits-driven perspective and I am not against it in principle, I just don't enjoy games built around these elements. The gameplay gets designed in a particular way e.g. it's a real slog to get anywhere without paying up etc.

Re: PS4 Games Can Now Be Played on PC with PlayStation Now

@Games_lover I see. Well, I still think there will be some restrictions applied i.e. not all games will appear straight away, there will be a delay, I will be watching this space because I am interested in the service, I even played FFXIII when it was available and later - infamously - removed from the service.
