Re: Sony: PS4K Will Not Shorten the PS4's Lifecycle

finalstan

I think MS is very clever announcing Scorpio now. They lost this gen's war (although hardly a failure themselves), so the only way to get ahead is cut Sony's lead short - by introducing next gen sooner.
One way for Sony to gain the lead back is making PS5 a PSNow game streaming 'box' and never be bound by hardware limitations again (but by 'just' the internet speeds, so a huge impediment atm). It's going to be tough.

Re: E3 2016: Sony's Surprised Microsoft Announced Xbox Scorpio Over a Year Ahead of Time

'Instant gratification' is a great marketing concept, and I am all for it, difficult to keep under wraps, though, for projects (hardware, software), which take years to initiate, develop and complete, with a massive branching chains of companies=people involved. Sony tried with PS4K but was ultimately forced to address (tactfully, might I add).

Speaking of projects, @rjejr, I work in a project environment and there is a running joke in the project manager community that whatever timescales you arrive at and resources you plan for, add another flat 50% on top and you have a 'realistic' idea of what is going to happen. We are talking about multi-million cash projects here. Combine with 1st point and I am surprised the reality isn't actually worse than it is. It p****s me off, too, but it is true nobody quite cracked it yet for the highly desired/anticipated software and hardware.

Re: E3 2016: Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV Looks Seriously Impressive

The one question I have is how many spoilers of the game are present in the movie i.e. do events in it happen first, at the same time (which is what this article is suggesting) or asynchronous in other ways? I imagine this will be handled properly and you could watch the movie (since it comes out first) without spoiling the game but do we actually know?

Re: All Games Will Support PS4 Despite New PS4K Model

@BAMozzy All you need is one documented example of a game running differently on both formats for questions such as that one to be asked of other games. Precisely because gamers (e.g. those who will be looking for reasons to justify the expense) won't know what the differences are as this could potentially play out in a number of different ways. Install base is high, so percentage of those wanting to know will also be high, I imagine.

You read a bit too much into my comment BTW, but that's ok.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Director Had to Tell Development Team to 'Wake Up'

I really like what they've done with this game so far. Few issues with the demos for me but nothing major. Of course the series needs to evolve, that's what made it reach the lofty XV number in the first place. Everything needs to evolve if it wants to stay relevant. Yes, XIII wasn't great but far from a disaster that everyone is trying to make it out to be. It knew exactly what it wanted to be and realised that well; yes, it didn't steal the players' heart but they are addressing the complaints now. Not everyone will end up loving it, for sure, but it will sell well and will have a lot going for it regardless of what any one person thinks.

Re: We're Still Not Sold on Final Fantasy XV's Battle System

@CloudNine Exactly how I felt. I would add that I LOVED the battles in Duscae, which puts me in the minority but whatevs. I have a feeling/hope that it will be the most rewarding if it forces you to mix and match weapons mid-combos to optimise strikes, which will make it a lot more interesting and tactical. Yes, you'll be able to hold the button to strike continuously with the same weapon but that will not get you far.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Features Dialogue Choices and Over 200 Side Quests

@themcnoisy Well it might also give incentive to explore to find better magic? I'm playing devil's advocate, in the grand scheme of things it's one mechanic and there will be many more to play around with. They will fix the aiming I hope as it was quite clumsy.
On a side note, I have a rule not to preorder games because of the regular patching culture and yet did it with this, so what I think I'll do is not play it straight away (if I can help it) and wait for enough patches until it's declared playable. I hope it will be day 1 but you never know.

Re: Sony Plays the Nostalgia Card with This Collection of Final Fantasy Ads

@WanderingBullet That is possible, we know Noctis will be able to summon more than one (we have Ramuh and we will get Carbuncle), then I think Noctis' gang mentions something about being on a trip to pay a visit to 'his ginormousness', then we have Noctis with the ability to lock on and teleport to enemies - would lend itself nicely to a (huge) eidolon fights, to prove one's worth etc.
