Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 110

@Mergatro1d Really enjoying it so far. Be prepared for samey gameplay but mixing mitamas and weapon types provides variety, which I find is a lot better than other games of the genre (Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, to name a couple I played). I'm enjoying the setting as well.
I wanted to get Trails of Cold Steel but went with this instead. Either way, will play and finish both games at some point. How are you finding it?

Re: PlayStation VR's US Pre-Order Bundle Costs More Than $399

Wow, now that's a way to kill enthusiasm they worked so hard on generating! It's actuallly a decent deal when it comes down to it but have two problems with it:
1) as mentioned above, why give a price of base unit if can't buy it? What about thos whoe already have the accessories?
2) bundling is ok, however, even though the camera is necessary for it work, move controllers are not. I myself am not planning to get those until I see it fit, DualShock will suit me just fine (I'm in the UK).

@get2sammyb You see, I'd be all for it if implemented right. If you have an online FPS shooter that can be played both in VR and on TV, that would give the former unfair advantage (I assume). That is not the right way to go about it.
I don't think it will happen, though, the 'first person' aspect of VR makes the majority of the most popular genres difficult to translate and some outside the box thinking is required to crack this. I think it's exciting and can't wait to see what's in store.

I do wonder how much scope is there for turning existing games into VR experiences? I totally get how technically challenging this could be, however assets are there so a patch for a game to make it VR-enabled to make use of 100 degree viewing angles could be a nice thing depending on the game (I am thinking Rocket League for example).

Re: Pre-Order Your PlayStation VR Headset Right Now

@JaxonH I get that completely and thought that myself, but suppose it's marketing done right: right price, revealed at the right time, with the right stats to support it (50 games, 230 developers). All of this is reassuring, fuelled by nostalgia to 'original' VR plus for another paradigm shift, everybody wants it, games are becoming more and more generic. I think VR will have influence on 'normal' games as well. Every time there's a paradigm shift everything's fluid, more creative e.g. that's how you get works of art that stay with you for a lifetime. As things mature genres are identified and we are being put in boxes more and more, until another shift etc.

I doubt it will sold out on Amazon, still plenty of time to meet the demand. In fact, it might be beneficial to keep it open at this stage to give Sony a sense of demand; it's no coincidence you've got a half-year gap instead of a couple of months.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Upgrade to a Supercharged PS4?

I think we are forgetting that consoles in their current state of affairs are still incredibly successful and as such are here to stay. Obviously there's case to be made for innovation, which has its place, but the concept is showing no signs of wear. Only then a real push for 'something else' could happen, again innovation 'complicating' things by trying to exploit (or create) our undiscovered needs. This may cause step change, may not. If anything, we are more likely to see a virtual PS[insert number] than a modular one. PS Now is already a thing after all. This would neatly solve the issue as the [number] would be nothing else but a subscription model/release if not abandoned completely.
