I don't get all the praise for Death's Door. Was an OK little game and I'm glad I played it but it felt NOTHING like Zelda to me at all. My big problem was that the 4 weapon upgrades were uninspired and all felt the same. Prob a 6/10 for me.
Got Persistence and Saints N Sinners. Sinners might arguably be the best VR title around. Dont have the others so its no bad. The servers must be quite empty for the dodgeyball game if theyre giving it away for free already... Its already been on Gamepass since it was released. Played it with my son and its pretty good.
Had this on Wii U and couldnt get into it. Shame as I loved Fatal Frame 4 (with language patch) on Wii. Sold it couple years ago for £125. I just dont get (re)releases like this. Subpar game from years ago released to below average reviews ... cynical dev does NOTHING to address the issues critics' had with it ... and ... what? ... they expect it to suddenly be a great game, be received well and fly off the shelves. They knew it was pretty crap back then and they know its still crap now. Cynical and opportunistic devs.
Rise of the Tomb Raider IS SO MUCH BETTER than Half Life 2. Half Life 2 is an old relic. Rise is an absolutely stunning modern adventure. Arkham City IS miles better than Mario 64, Poke Yellow and Dark Souls. I think your confusing influencial games with which game is actually better. Mario 64 was a defining moment in videogames history .... its also pretty stale now and has been refined and improved upon repeatedly up until Odyssey.
Ive had to face the reality that I have now become a games "collector". I'll buy games on sale, expand my library (680+), get some weird satisfaction from it, and likely never play them. So this is a perfect "own none" month for me. JACKPOT!!!
Meh list. Defo needs updating. Ender Lilies, Grime, Monster Boy, Wonder Boy 3 and F.I.S.T. are far better than Headlander, Iconoclasts, Blasphemous and Dead Cells (more of a roguelike to me). Got bored half way through Iconoclasts (wasn't very Metroivania-y) and Headlander was good but repetative.
To be expected. Bit unfair but, having experienced it in VR, I wouldn't go back. Got PS5 and Series X..... wouldn't play it on either now. Really is that good in VR ... the "head" voices sound so convincing on PC with a Quest 2 headset, they flow back and forth from left ear to right, you'd swear someone was right next to you. It's really disconcerting . Also you can play it with a "Moss" diarama perspective or scale it up so your standing behind a life size Senua in VR. Really is killer.
Good news is "slower" drives work too. Just read an article on how the slowest M.2 drive on the market has load times that are right up there the PS5 ssd. Don't know what all Sony's "only compatible drives will work" nonsense was. Then they change it to "only recommended drives with a certain read/write speed"... Now it turns out ANY M.2 drive can be used. What, they didn't know that when they designed it?
This'll look nice (well, nicer than 30fps) on my LG CX but ive always wondered why fidelity mode comes at such a huge cost (usually 50%) to the performance. Why is the compromise never 55fps or 50fps instead of 60? Obviously there is going to be a trade-off BUT halfing the performance is way too much of a compromise to be worth bothering with. Even at 40fps (taking 1/3 off) isn't worth it either. Really anticipating the days where you dont have to choose betwwen fidelity and performance.
Wouldn't call it "terrible". It was of its time and theyve obviously stuck to the original template for better or worse. I loved it back in the day ... it was my first Master System game I got for my 10th birthday in '88. The "Janken" boss "fights" were obviously a dreadful idea but from what I hear you get sent back to the start of the level in this version, not nearly as bad as the punishment in the original. I never got close to completing this on Master System as I could never navigate the final ice labyrinth but played it again recently on Retroarch (with save states/rewind) and finished it. I still found it pretty good fun. If you hated the original, you'll hate this. . . but i'm pretty sure the opposite is true also.
After using Airlink on Quest 2 for a few weeks and experiencing the freedom of perfect wireless VR at nearly 4K, I really hope they have some sort of wireless option for PSVR2. Would obviously require an external battery pack but would be more than worth the extra cost to get rid of those pesky wires.
... "this PlayStation 5 exclusive action platformer is virtually flawless."
Virtually Flawless = ... um ... 8??!!
Really disappointing score after reading the first paragraph. You've defo put it in the "wait for a sale" category ... especially when you factor in the astronomical price!
Really good. At Heisenberg boss on my 2nd playthrough. Having avoided all trailers/spoilers I assumed Lady D would be the main boss and I kinda think she shouldve been and wasn't too keen on her transformation for the boss fight. The Castle should have been much bigger. Its the best part of the game. Most Resi's do this to me ... I always love the first stage/location then the next stages aren't quite as good. Ploughed through castle in no time on 2nd run. Also on my 2nd run I didn't upgrade anything until Heis's Factory when I got the best handgun and shotgun and sold all the starting weapons.... didn't have any trouble with any enemy on normal difficulty. Still, thoroughly enjoyable game ... just wish it had PSVR compatibility... Imagine looking up at an 8ft Lady Dimetrescu in VR. 9/10
When I view latest releases, I want to see latest "RELEASES" (ie, games that have ACTUALLY been RELEASED) .... not latest releases listed underneath a confusing bunch of COMING SOON GAMES where I can't tell whats actually available for purchase and whats not.
Tried Wreckfest on PS5 this morning. Not impressed. I was in a tiny tractor trying to knock other farm dudes off of their tiny tractors. Yawn. Sure theres more to it but as far as first impressions go ... it was rotten.
TBH I really didn't like the gun combat much in the Uncharted series. It was way too wave-shootery and got tedious really quickly. Really loved it in TLOU though, and TLOU 2 refined and improved the combat in comparison to the original. Sounds like sour grapes from MS to me.
Genre and price are the issues for me. I've enjoyed very few roguelikes/lites so the idea of paying £70 for one isn't appealing. Especially when a game I'm really anticipating like Resi Village is £55. Don't think I'd pay over £20 for Returnal.
Sure it'll be good and I enjoyed the last PS4 R&C but its just not a series i've ever been that excited about ... Resi Village on the other hand ... now were talkin'!!! Roll on Friday.
Way better than any game titled "TWD: Saints and Sinners" oughta be, this was one of the most pleasant gaming surprises. Astrobot, Resi 7 and this are my 3 faves (can't put em in order as I adore them all). Wasn't all that keen on the first DLC for Saints but if this new one is more story, tasks and upgradables, count me in.
Think Resi 4 might not be in my top 3 anymore (although with Resi 4 VR being announced on Quest 2 I might have to re-evaluate.) Resi1 GC, Resi 2 Remake and Resi 7 in VR are prob my top 3 just now. Resi 7 in VR is my fave now. Resi 3 was by far my fave of the original Playstation trilogy and really loved the Resi 3 remake too which I think was really underrated. Really like the under-appreciated Resi 5 too.
Demos for games I know i'll be really into ... nah! I didn't even watch the showcase as I think knowing as little as possible going in is the best way. Cant wait. 3 weeks left!
Have both PS5 and Series X and have to say, having upgraded from a One X, that the Series X is the most boring console launch EVER. I do like the design and improvements (games look great on my LG CX) and Gamepass is great but everything on Gamepass was perfectlty playable on my One X. Don't regret upgrading but it never felt exciting in the slightest. PS5 on the other hand with the haptics/triggers and exclusives felt genuinley exciting. I had more fun with AstroBot on PS5 than any new game on Series X. PS Plus/Now both need a few tweaks here and there but I don't think I want a full Gamepass service on PS5. Sony still has some massive exclusives that most people are more than willing to pay full price for so I dont think they need to follow the Microsoft route of releasing every first party game on their subscription service.
Sure I'll love it, regardless of whether its necessary or not. Its a game I play once a year and I wouldn't mind having a new-gen re-telling of the story to shake things ups a little. Hope all you guys posting above stick to your guns and boycott it, even after all the 10/10 scores it'll probably receive. Nothin' worse than fair-weather hypocrites. Its their baby and I fully trust Naughty Dog. Can't wait.
Days Gone a bit of a let down as have it on PS5 as part of the collection but I suppose as us PS5ers are getting Oddworld and PS4 aren't, I can't complain. Decent for me.
.... this is getting ridiculous. How do we upgrade to (or download) the PS5 digital version. I've been trying all day. Nothing has changed. PS5 version "Unavailable" if I visit PS Store on my PC and I get some weird message about a conflict of purchases regarding Crash 4 "tracker" if I try on my PS5???
Purchased one and was extremely disappointed this required a dongle, meaning I now don't have room for all my usb devices (external HD, psvr breakout box and ps camera adapter and now Pulse headset) and require to buy a usb hub to accommodate everything. Another stupid oversite from Sony. Having to buy an extra USB hub when I have what must be a fairly typical PS5 setup is unacceptable in 2021. Its not like I'm using unnecessary peripherals. How hard is it to create a 1st party headset without requiring a dongle or give us enough USBs for everything we NEED to use?
Hard to pick what I want as PSVR1 is lacking in every area. Proper controls and image quality are right up there for me. Would really like to see a removable jack connection for the headset too meaning that the wire could simply be replaced if it was damaged/severed rather than having to replace/repair the entire headset. I thought partnering with Oculus and allowing Quest 2 compatibility wouldve been a good idea rather than creating a new headset.
Never really got into Doom. Think the lack of narrative in the first two games turned me off. Played Doom Remake, Eternal and VFR but never really got far into them. Then Doom 3 VR mod came out for Quest 2 and it really is a great experience. Creepy, with a decent story and varied NPCs. Not sure I would enjoy it on a flat TV as it is probably just a run of the mill shooter but VR does make many average games much more enjoyable. Lotsa loud noises and jump scares. Good fun.
Ouch!! Atrocious showcase. Really disappointed. They must've known this would be extremely underwhelming. Yawn. Where the hell is the PS+ March announcement too? Cutting it fine!
Playing it on Switch just now and its great. I think i'll prob give it a 9 from what ive played so far. LOVED the first one, kinda knew i'd adore this too. And C'mon, you missed the pun. . . ."Trial and (T)error" wouldve worked well.
Been checking all day for this update. Looks absolutely stunning on my LG CX. So impressed. Now ... as soon as I finish Hitman 1-3 in VR I'll replay GoW.
Concrete Genie is a nice surprise. Jury's out on Destruction but I really despised Control. Pretentious, sci fi nonsense mixed with what is actually a pretty average waveshooter. Can't believe I actually stuck with it to the end .... irksome!!
Doesn't matter how good it looks on my PS5 ... I just want a PSVR version. Resi 7 looks great on flatscreen BUT I can't go back after playing it in VR (same with Alien Isolation). Surprised Capcom aren't mentioning VR at all. They put a lot of love into the PSVR version of Resi 7 and mustve had a blast playing the final product. With the Quest 2 super popular a VR mode for PC would be great too.
Brilliant for me. Shadow is still on my console but has been locked since it was removed from PS Now and I never got round to playing it. Maneater is one ive thought about purchasing and a great freebie for PS5 owners. Bit rubbish that the PS4 version of Maneater is not included as I game share with my son and nephew on my PS5 and their two PS4 pros. They woulda liked it.
Loved this game. Collected everything ... just have to finish that basement section i'm being prompted to do. Zipping myself into that rickety little rocket with the bone rattling engines was easily the highlight for me. The various typres of trigger feedback all feel completely unique.
This is great. Hate picking res or performance. Thought this gen we'd finally be able to have both. I usually go for best quality visuals over frame rate but slicing the frame rate IN HALF is a trade off too far. If it had ran at 50fps or even 45fps id probably stick with the ray tracing but on a game like Spidey, its really jarring/choppy swinging around at 30fps after experiencing it 4k at 60fps. Ray tracing does seem like a tech demo just now. . . a neat feature i'd turn on to demonstrate to someone then turn off straight after. When your playing a game like Miles M, you dont really stop to look at windows much.
Nothing ... Due all my PS5 issues. Accumulated 79 error logs in last 3 days. Greyed out unplayable games, undeletable games, undeletable icons for games that aren't installed (???}) , 50+ shut down crashes, no installed games showing in library, no purchases shown in library, can't access ANY games in PS Store for purchase (clicking any game icon gets irksome "couldn't find what your looking for" message), menu freezes, corrupted save files, can't access brand new external for ps4 games. It really is a shocking state of affairs. Nothing helps. Updated software and rebuild database via safe mode. My console is useless.
.... whichever game doesn't repeatedly crash my PS5. I've issued over 20 bug reports just today. Keeps switching off mid game then screen going black when I try to switch it back on. Been doing this for days. Really is unacceptable. Loved Morlales though. Replaying Spidey in Ultimate form just now. The crashes are making me question if its worth the hastle.
@Rich_bown ... i'm all digital. Ive game shared between 2 consoles with my neice since early PS4 days. Meaning every digital purchase is like buying 2 discs for price of one. Now ive got PS5 digital edition, ive discovered that it doesnt affect my PS4 Pro consoles' accounts ... meaning I can game share 1 digital copy with 3 consoles now and play online with them simultaneously. Gave my other Pro to my nephew and we can all share my games now and play online together. Much better value than disc in my opinion.

Loved this game. Collected everything ... just have to finish that basement section i'm being prompted to do. Zipping myself into that rickety little rocket with the bone rattling engines was easily the highlight for me. The various typres of trigger feedback all feel completely unique.
Re: Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Update Adds Ray Tracing at 60FPS, Here's What It Looks Like
This is great.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 352
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite PS5 Launch Game?
.... whichever game doesn't repeatedly crash my PS5.
Re: Soapbox: PS5 Is Pushing Me Ever Closer to All-Digital
@Rich_bown
... i'm all digital.
