Re: Round Up: What Was Announced at the PlayStation Showcase?

mrobinson91

Whole thing felt very flat, so decided to run some numbers...

  • 34 games shown in total (5 PSVR games)
  • 5 Playstation Studio games (if you include Bungie). Only 1 showed gameplay.
  • 6 games had release dates. 9 additional games have a release window of 2023. Everything else undated or next year.
  • Surprisingly 70% of games shown had gameplay trailers.

My personal stats

  • Out of everything, only one game is a definite play for me (Spiderman)
  • There are 4 other games I am interested in (Sword of the Sea, The Plucky Squire, Teardown, Ultros)

Re: Persona 3 Portable (PS4) - Brooding JRPG Is Still Superb

mrobinson91

I'm very tempted by this due to the better resolution etc but I can't help the feeling I'd be better off picking up Persona 3 FES on SteamDeck instead. It is a shame they haven't taken the opportunity to make the definitive version of Persona 3. Be interested to know what people think who have played it.

Re: Talking Point: Did Summer Game Fest: Kickoff Live Blow You Away?

mrobinson91

Some good stuff in there but overall it's still not particularly fun to watch. Wonderland, Salt & Sacrifice and Elden Ring were good moments but a lot of stuff in between didn't hit the mark for me.

I'm slowly realising these events just are not worth watching. The Elden Ring trailer is available in 4K 5 minutes after the stream so you don't miss much by not tuning in. I'll still watch the big 3s though!

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Expecting a PS5, PS4 Press Conference from PlayStation Next Month

mrobinson91

I know a lot of the chatter about Playstation's doom has quieted in recent weeks, but I still feel like they're missing something. The games will speak for themselves and we know they produce quality stuff. However, they still lack personality at the moment and in the long run I think this will damage them as people become less invested in their ecosystem.

To tie this back to the topic at hand, Sony has been known to pull out conferences that are better than we could have dreamt with great personalities to pepper between the announcements. Now we get State of Play which even when showcasing bigger games has felt lackluster. Bring back the energy!

Re: PS Now's New Games Are PS4 Only, No PS5 Upgrade Path

mrobinson91

As people have said this is just another instance where Sony don't seem to be at the top of their game at the moment. I bought an Xbox Series S this weekend (secondary to my PS5) and I am blown away by how much easier everything is. Everyone talks about Gamepass but it wasn't until I sat down with my console and looked at what was available to install I realised how insane it is.

When it comes to back compat, the 360 games I've installed are running 4k textures and more stable framerate!!! Just imagine a world where Playstation's first party PS3 games were upscaled and improved to play on the PS5....what we actually get is PSNow.

I've been a big Playstation fan for a long time but I'm telling all my friends who aren't big gamers to buy Xbox, it's the obvious choice. Pull your socks up Playstation!!!

EDIT: General reminder that this is all a bit of fun and shouldn't ruin anyone's day.

Re: Soapbox: PS5 Pricing Is Setting Releases Like Returnal Up to Fail

mrobinson91

Broadly, on the PS4 I bought almost everything digital and didn't mind paying full price. Based on the PS5 prices, particularly on games like this, I'll be buying physical and reselling instead unless it's a game I truly love. Net impact will be Sony make less money from me as a consumer.

Specifically regarding Returnal, Β£70 is an absurd asking price I'll be very surprised if this doesn't sell very softly.

Re: Demon's Souls PS5 Doesn't Have Sixth Archstone, No Difficulty Modes

mrobinson91

@SailorNemesis I disagree that adding options doesn't take anything away from the game. Often people cry of "elitism" but this isn't the case, most of the souls audience just want people to give the game a go as it was intended. We want people to experience the same thing we do. It sounds silly but challenge is core to the game design and giving options will lead to many people "giving up" too early and not seeing the game for what it is.

I'll be honest I do understand the other side of this discussion but weighing up the pros and cons, I think these games are best without difficulty options.

Ps. Summon people into your world for ez mode πŸ˜‰

Re: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - Madcap Marsupial's Return Is N. Sanely Good

mrobinson91

I'm absolutely loving it, even if though it does drive me crazy sometimes when I'm trying to complete some of the harder challenges.
It's disappointing that the game doesn't seem to be selling well, it's the biggest Crash game and one of the best in the series. I hope it doesn't put them off making more in the future. Price isn't an issue for me at Β£55 as it's a great experience.
