Re: Deals: PSVR2 Price Gets a Hefty Cut at Numerous UK Retailers

@NEStalgia "LOL,the phone market is a weird market. And the Apple market in general. It's not about how good the phone is. Does the latest phone really do anything that the 5 year old phones didn't do exactly the same? Not unless you play games on it and need the power in which case it's just a tiny console. The phone upgrade is a fashion accessory and status symbol. It's not for YOU, it's for everyone who sees you wearing it. It's Italian shoes. A new fur coat. It's an iPhone Pro!"

I genuinely couldn't agree more. But it goes to show that people are certainly still willing to pay big bucks for something they see as a must have. I have several friends who bought a ps5 as soon as it was in stock and hardly used it afterwords. They even to ask friends for a loan. Just so that they can have it and... not use it. They weren't even showing it off, like people do with iphones, macbooks, ipads, applewatches, etc.

As for paying 500 USD or more for an accessory (i.e. on top of something expensice), I present you... airpods!

@Ilyn I know, right? My partner recently bought me an iphone for like 1000 euro and for the life of me, I don't get what's so special about it compared to my OnePlus from several years ago. But when I bought a ps5, that was deemed unnecessary, since I still haven't played all my ps3 and ps4 games.

@OldGamer999 you can always count on Nintendo for great exclusives. They sometimes take a while, but excellent 1st party games will be released eventually. So at best you'll get it day 1, at worst, wait a few months for them to be released. But it's a sure bet. Even WiiU had great games.

@PsBoxSwitchOwner it's ok. I'll try again.

You argued that Wii sold well because it had Mario Kart, Zelda etc. I counter argued that those games weren't enough to help WiiU, N64 or Gamecube take off. It was games like WiiSports, WiiPlay, WiiFit. Games that (unlike CoD, Fifa) were not huge IPs when they came out.

I also provided the example of (mobile/cell) phones. They didn't used to cost that much, but iphones became a cool item to have, prices skyrocketed without affecting sales. In other words, the price doesn't matter when the product is perceived as a must have.

@Ainu20 are they currently losing money on each console sold? If so, how much exactly? I'd be very interested in reading a source. Because that was the case consistently with ps3 and they never increased the price, like they did with ps5, no matter how the Yen was performing.

@get2sammyb yeah, I get that, but considering how first party games get tiny price cuts now and how they used to lose quite a bit on each console (remember ps3? I think there were times they were losing $200 on each console sold at a certain time), this new approach gives me the impression they're too focused on making a profit that they forget the bigger picture.
