No offence, but I have the feeling the reviewer isn’t familiar with Blomkamp’s reputation. If this movie is great it certainly isn’t “unexpected”, based on his previous work. Also strange that his name isn’t even mentioned in the review.
@Xboxbummer The one with the menus? When I played it a year ago I had done all single player content in about two weeks and had to sell the game. There also weren’t any cool things to revisit.
After Starfield the game I’m looking forward to the most, but I wonder if it will ever see the light of day. This guy probably needs a hard deadline to deliver.
I just hate that the game is not clicking with me, despite loving the FF series. I’m at 33% and I have no connection at all to the story and characters. At first the combat pulled me through it, but that’s getting rather one dimensional as well.
I don’t want to quit, but it feels like a drag to complete the remaining 67%.
Final Fantasy XVI. It still hasn’t really clicked with me, but yesterday I did the (first) Ifrit fight and it was AWESOME! Hope the game will pull me in now.
I’m not that tempted to buy anything. My backlog is enormous already and Starfield (and Forza) is around the corner which will probably keep me occupied for most of the year.
Only with some REAL good prices for RE Village or 4 (not the sale prices we see every month) or a ridiculous price for Dead Space I might strike.
@glassmusic I did. I had a very hard time finding anything promising, since the quantity is also extremely low. Even those titles turned out to be mediocre though.
@spakai For me the trick in the last Returnal biome was to just run forward to safety after you fall. My resources were too limited to ty to beat all things lurking out at the bottom. After that I beat the end boss pretty quickly.
@DeepSpace5D Good approach. I also like that ER gives you so many ways to sort out your own journey. With precious From games I was dead stuck all the time but here there are always possibilities to explore further.
@DeepSpace5D Aren’t you afraid the final bosses of ER are going to be too easy when overlevelled? The fights might lose their magic. Or aren’t you grinding while exploring?
I’m at 20% of FF16 but still it won’t really grab me. I don’t understand why, since I adore the series. The fights are really cool but I have to concentrate very hard to not lose my attention during the story parts.
They missed the boat for me personally. This would have been cool a year ago, but with all the new releases and much improved PS Plus I won’t have the time to replay old games like this.
@PixelDragon Thanks for explaining. I can understand your reasons. The only thing I don’t recognize is the “very little resell value”. I can easily resell new games for at least 75% of what I bought them for, so essentially I’m paying 25% if I don’t keep them.
Why do so many people buy it digitally while it’s much more expensive and you can’t resell them afterwards? Most people have a PS5 with disc drive, right?
PS. I’m surprised to find my comment in this topic which I didn’t even know existed. I’m pretty sure I posted it in the “what are you playing this weekend” topic.
I’ve been critical on Essential earlier this year, but this is the second very strong month in a row. After the NBA game last month this time I’m looking forward to AW. Also it has been years since I played a war game and heard this one has a strong single player campaign, so might be checking it out.
The backlog is growing and growing though. I’ll try to focus on the games I can play and not the ones I don’t have the time for.
@Cordyceps No clue what you’re talking about 😅 I beat the dude after recovering the three aliens and got the end credits. After 40+ hours that was enough for me.
I already started FF 16 last week, but Hollow Knight called me back. Such an impressive game! Normally I’m not that much into indies, but this one had me hooked.
Now I beat it I’ll continue with FF 16. Can’t wait to be sucked in.
Lists are always fun to check. I don't take this one very serious though. With XIII-2 being lower on the list than XIII and XV, I wonder if most voters even played it at all, since it "fixes" most problems XIII had (as being explained in the text as well).
For me It would be much more interesting to read a list entirely curated by experts/enthousiasts.
I’m not far enough to give it a score yet, I’ve only just arrived in the village with the Fat Chocobo. Just like with FF7 Remake it takes some getting used to though. Don’t know if this sounds logical, but the characters seem so big and clumsy in these two games. Totally different from the FF’s I used to love (most entries since X).
I’m sure I’ll have to push through a bit though. These big games always seem a bit overwhelming in the beginning when you try to soak up everything desperately to not miss a beat.
@somnambulance Same (together with Starfield of course). The first DS was my main distraction from covid. Played it for over 250 hours and still wasn’t getting tired of it.
Final Fantasy 16, duh. I’m at the beginning with mainly cut scenes introducing the story, feels good so far. The characters seem strong. Also the first two bigger fights were very promising combat wise. I’m struggling a bit with the motion blur though, I feel a bit dizzy at times.
If all scores are over 35/40 it's impossible to learn anything from this score. On the other hand, it's good to see they rated especially XIII-2 and XII that high, since XIII-2 is one of my absolute favorite entries while most people seem to ignore it.
And while I typed this message I received my dispatch notification for XVI! Can't wait to experience it first hand tomorrow. I ignored most videos and the demo so far, ready to be as overwhelmed as possible by the real deal.
@TheArtfulDodger Try to watch them with attention and see them as part of the journey instead of checking your watch or skipping them. The magic of FF isn’t just pushing the buttons on your controller but also simply sitting back and letting the story wash over you, often with breathtaking graphics. Also, the beginning stages often have more cut scenes than later parts of the game, to set up the story.
I’ll never forget the impact FF X made on me many years ago, in a big part because of those cut scenes.
Yeah, because it's near impossible to downgrade when you don't want to miss out on a sale. My end date is a month after the yearly 25% off sale, I still haven't figured out how to downgrade to Extra without losing the price cut.
Never played a Diablo game but I’m intrigued by D4 so might give it a try. Is it a game you’ll first have to invest a lot of time in developing your character before it gets fun or are you in the midst of the action immediately?
I'm sure it will be good, but for me these smaller/indie games are never more than a nice in between if I can get them for free (like Planet of Lana) when playing large 100+ hour games and needing something simple to recharge my batteries. They're not the sort of games that justify owning a PS5/Series X.
@God_of_War_ If I were you I'd play FF16 first and then sell it/trade it for Diablo. Diablo is way more popular, which means there will be tons of cheap second handed copies on the market in a few months time.
@LetsPatchItOut Wow, this comment raises my hyped level even further. For me NieR:Automata easily has the most rewarding combat system of every game I ever played. I really hope it will be like that one and not too much like DMC5 which a lot of people said before (don't like that game/system at all, way too chaotic).
@Gamer_Guy I really couldn’t care less to be honest, I’ve never been this excited after a game presentation as yesterday. I’m sure I’ll spend hundreds of hours on it.
I feel like I should love the base game since it’s right up my alley atmosphere wise, but I just couldn’t get to grips with it. The menu and map felt so chaotic I gave up. After all the positive opinions I feel like I should give it another go though, if I’ll ever find the time after FF XVI and Starfield.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 488
Final Fantasy 16 at 63%. It’s finally starting to draw me in.

Re: PS5, PS4's Superb Sim Racer Gran Turismo 7 Grows Again Next Month
I wouldn’t call a racer with so little singleplayer content superb.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 487
@MightyDemon82 If I can still cross my fingers 😅
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 487
Thanks! I looked at that, but all 6 configurations come with a heavy use of R2 and/or R1. R1 is either evading or spamming attacks.
Edit: I overlooked configuration D, which interchanges Evade and Eikonic Feat and leaves the rest the same. That could work for me!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 487
I was complaining about FF16 not clicking with me before, but now at 43% it’s getting rather awesome both story and combat wise.
Only downside: my right trigger finger is hurting like hell from cramping up on the R1 button.
Re: PS Plus Essential Games for August 2023 Announced
I wonder if a golf game is fun to play. The other two I won’t even claim.
Re: Blizzard Releases Diablo 4 Hype Trailer as Season of the Malignant Begins
What do ‘seasons’ in gaming entail? Is it like free DLC that’s temporary available? And is it like this for other games as well, like Halo Infinite?

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for July 2023?
Crap selection this time and that’s fine. We’ve had plenty to keep us going in the last months/year.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 485
@Fight_Teza_Fight Still looking forward to SN as well. Is it comparable to Tales of Arise?

One of the rare months with nothing for me at first sight. It almost feels like a relieve to not see my backlog grow even further.

Re: Another Six-Month Apple TV+ Free Trial Available Now on PS5, PS4
I've had a free trial (together for 1,5 years or something) twice and never watched anything. Most useless streaming service available.
