@ItsBritneyB_tch I can’t quite put my finger on it either. Survivor just didn’t grab me (not quite finished with the main story yet) the way Fallen Order did. I can’t help but think it’s total Star Wars burnout. It feels like it takes more to wow when it’s always there.
Trying to balance finishing Jedi Survivor while I add to my 32 hours in Tears of the Kingdom.
Also they got me. I’m headed out of town next week so I got D4 early access so I could enjoy it some before I travel. Already made it to level 12 despite my two children lol.
I think they purposely held back on this latest one. Why? Because Microsoft is the one with something to prove in its showcase. If they have those rumoured two incredible games, then Sony can respond in kind. That coupled with the dire Factions news seems to suggest Sony is not wanting to get burned from the start or to play it’s hand too early.
@SurgicalMenace Midnight Suns is great for remote play. I do wish there was a tad bit less interactions since the combat is so enjoyable! And enjoy Signalis. I got through the first three chapters if I were to label them as such before realizing I’d need a guide to feel like I’m doing the game justice!
This looks fantastic. The kind of game to get me into the universe as I’ve always been curious but never taken the dive since some of the games seem so middle road.
@Sanquine funny you say that. I’m on my 4th time with BOTW and it’s finally clicking for me too. I think I won’t finish it and just move to TOTK instead, but at least I kinda get it. Still think the world is too barren and the weapon durability can be tedious, but otherwise it’s charming.
@Loamy I too was really disappointed with BOTW. I don’t know why but I went back to it every year for four years to try and see what I was missing. I just did it again this week so I could see if TOTK would be worth purchasing. I really want to get it and have it click the way it does for so many other people.
I’m not sure what it is, but last night when I tried I couldn’t set it down. I still think it’s too barren for my tastes, but if you chase what little narrative there is, for me, I finally got something out of it.
I am not playing TOTK nor do I plan to. Every year I retry BOTW and never can get into it. For me I just wrapped up RE4 Remake and now I am wrapping up FF1.
The hope is to then do some backlog gaming before picking up Jedi Survivor!
Wrapping up RE4 Remake while getting lost in Final Fantasy 1 for the 1st time! Then I’ll hit up Demon Slayer the game before doing 2-6. I blame the latest sword smith arc on Crunchyroll for me purchasing that game.
I've heard nothing but incredibly positive things about this one, so I need to give it a go when I find the time. Nice to see how indie titles like this want to continue to support the game and really drive the value and name of their game and studio.
This DLC looks more intriguing than the base game did to me. I would have enjoyed this plot concept more, whisked back in time in the midst of a war over the whisked away to a land to find her way back home and help a kingdom solve a mysterious threat.
Grid was fun when I did the EA trial. The over the top FMV was easy to skip and yet added to the experience. Descenders might be fun. I tend to like stuff like that. And Chivalry 2 is absolute bloody fun chaos.
For me RE4 Remake. Chapter 12 of 16. I can taste the end at this point.
Then wrap up Burning shores. I’m on the penultimate quest and realizing it’s not Aloy that gets me through these games, but rather the gameplay. It feels so good to try and pick apart the machines.
Lastly, I swear I’m going to get through Midnight Suns more and hopefully finally experience for the first time FF1-6. I’ve played 7-9 and some of 13, but I’ve got some gaps to fill in before 16 just because I love the series.
@Vil this description alone may have sold me on it. I’ve often wanted to get into those games but lack the time and effort to learn the systems. Maybe with that mindset as a Souls gamer I’ll enjoy it more!
This was not on my radar before, but it is now! Stoked to have something else on a smaller scare to try out. I am always looking for something to get me back into the world of Greek Mythology beyond the stuff I read and teach, especially since Odyssey started me on that journey, but it was too big for my time.
@Samholy Depending on what deal you have in mind, I think the preorder window is $10 off here in the States for 39.99 pricepoint. If that's too high, I imagine a yer down the road it'll be 19.99 at some point.
Burning shores for sure, while still working my way through RE4.
I’m still itching to get the FF Pixel Remasters because I’ve never played 1-6. However, I fear with kids I won’t have enough time to do them all. So the debate is a la carte a few or buy the whole lot to never finish.
Beyond those I really want to replay pieces some games I’ve already beat this year.
I didn’t enjoy Forbidden West at first. I think it was the proximity to Elden Ring. However, for some reason this DLC cannot come fast enough as I’m very eager to jump back in. Cleared out space and am ready to explore the shores!
Knee deep in RE4. I’ve decided RE4 is more fun, but Dead Space nails that survival horror atmosphere like no one else.
Beyond that Marvel’s Midnight Suns in small bursts. The gameplay is amazing but the amount of dialogue has me contemplating skipping through the story.
Beyond that I’m itching for some OCTOPATH Traveler 2 but with Burning Shores coming up I don’t see it happening.
@TJ81 I agree on the immersive HUD. I want to say that Ragnarok had that option (it would only appear upon touching the touchpad or during certain occurrences in combat if I recall). I loved it in whatever it was that had it. I could look at it when needed and then let it be otherwise.
I never preorder games anymore until maybe the day or two before so it can digitally pre-download and be ready on release day, but this might be an exception. Coupled with the knowledge that it has been finished since last year and they spent the last 8-10 months simply working on polish tells me it cannot be less than stellar (it would be a massive miss for FF at this point, and I do not think SE would risk that with their most important franchise at this point).
That being said, I will still probably wait until the start of June to preorder just in case anything bizarre occurs.
@KundaliniRising333 I ala immediately thought Bright Memory Infinite, which I bought on sale for 12 bucks and immensely enjoyed in multiple playthroughs over 5 hours 😂
I’ve certainly added to this number since I knew that despite what else I was playing I’d immediately want to jump in and experience the only Resident Evil game I hadn’t played from the mainline series (6 of course doesn’t exist so we can’t count what doesn’t exist!).
@Constable_What I’m always fascinated by what games don’t tell you like case of Wo Long and blocking or Wanted Dead and canceling. I respect your opinion on Wanted Dead. We just differ on its value. I stuck 20 hours into it a week after release and loved the length. I also have two small ones so time is precious and letting me finish a game under 8 hours for one playthrough is perfect. Combat once it clicked was more than serviceable.
@jrt87 that not learning the mechanics before wanting to progress is exactly what happened with Wanted Dead, and the reason I think it scored so low. It’s got a parry system and roll dodge mechanic and cancel system that once learned really open it up. Most people don’t want to be bothered with that, most of my friends aren’t interested in learning mechanics as much as bulldozing through a game.
@Constable_What Blocking the entire time while tapping to deflect definitely makes the difference! I discovered that early on and wish the tutorial had said as much because that’s the best way to play. I wonder how many struggle with the game by not doing so and taking the hit on a missed deflect.
@PenguinLtd every year since 2019 I play ten hours of BOTW to tell myself this is the year I get into it. Ten hours later I tell myself it’s not for me lol. So I understand that.
Wrapping up Wo Long- incredible game. Then moving on to Resident Evil 4 Remake as I’ve already started it. Absolute blast having only played the village section of the original.
Otherwise Diablo 3 on Switch and maybe revisiting Wanted Dead on Japanese Difficulty. Wanted Dead is still the most “fun” I’ve had playing a game this year. It’s not the best game this year but definitely the most fun.
@Constable_What Lu Bu got inside my head based on all the posts I had seen about him. I loved that fight, and while it didn't take me more than 4 attempts to take him down, he's definitely a huge skill check, and demonstrates a good reason to invest points in the deflect (Wood) tree so you can earn spirit faster playing defensively. I was more irritated by the cloning guy before him that felt like twenty on one until I figured out how to really move through that fight. I love seeing who struggles with what boss, because it speaks to some sense of how we process and read action and respond with our inputs.
@awp69 I played Hong Kong a few years ago when it came out. It's a nice little top down Max Payne style game that is also parts Hotline Miami with enemy location memorization. I loved it and at 2.99 it's well worth the price.
I’d be willing to bet this is a day 1 ps extra drop. I’ll check it out. Wanted Dead reminded me how far off critics can be from understanding what a game wants to do.
I’ve been diving into the Diablo IV beta. I’m not a Diablo guy but I’m all in on this one.
Otherwise more Wo Long and Wanted Dead. I’d like to pick up Resi 4 as I never played the original (that and 6 are the only two I never played) and I know I’ll love it, but I’ve got to commit to finishing some games first!
@AFCC I actually think Wanted Dead is the closest to an action John Wick game we have at the moment. It has its jank and issues, but it makes me feel like John Wick with its executions. I'd like to see a studio like that be given a higher budget and the property, as I think they could really take it on.
@misak192 To be fair, I do think games like The Messenger and Celeste are incredible experiences in both 16 bit and 8 bit designs. That doesn't include stuff like Enter the Gungeon, Dead Cells and Blasphemous to name a few. But I know it is not everyone's cup of tea.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 480
Lies of P demo for sure. After that I’m out of town so it’ll be Tears of the Kingdom and if my internet holds up Diablo IV.
I still need to finish Jedi Survivor but those three above make it hard to go back!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 479

It’s Jedi Survivor and Tears of the Kingdom weekend for me.
I’d like to finish or work on Signalis or Midnight Suns, but we shall see. I’m really just counting down until Diablo IV hits.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 477
Having finished Severed Steel, Grid Legends’ story mode and the wonderful Castlevania DLC for Dead Cells I’m at a loss what to play.
Definitely Signalis for the weekend.
Probably also more Dead Cells, and either work through more Midnight Suns or purchase Jedi Survivor.
I’m in a very scattered gaming mood lately.
Oh and even though I hated BOTW I’m willing to TOTK a chance.

@Northern_munkey I started Lost Epic but other stuff came out and I never got back to it. Sounds like I should get back to it if it’s that good.

Re: Ambitious Action Platformer The Devil Within: Satgat Slices and Dices on PS5, PS4
I am all for 2D experiences. Trek to Yomi let me down a bit with how it handled, so I am hoping this is more in the vein of F.I.S.T. or Bloodstained.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 468

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 468
@Nightcrawler71 as someone about to dive into Anno 1800 but has no real love for the genre, is that type of broader appeal? Perhaps I’m asking how much you yourself dive into that style of game for a frame of reference.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 468
When the kids get to bed again for the eve, I’ll be cracking on with Wo Long and mixing it up with the fantastic Wanted:Dead.
Anno 1800 has a free week trial on PSN and my curiosity is peaked so I’ll dive into that as well.
