As long as Horizon and Ghost of Tushima get full trilogies, I won't mind too much. Live service is a vague enough term that I might like at least one of them, hopefully.
@Shepherd_Tallon The thing is, two of my favourite games are Firewatch and Disco Elysium, so MP and/or LS games don't usually interest me. An SP games that gets regular updates is technically a LS game, so hopefully one or two of them will suit me
@Shepherd_Tallon The weird thing is that these Anthem/Evolve/Avengers/Babylon's Fall type games frequently don't do that well, but they keep making them! I'm just praying that the Sony live service games are good as that could be a large amount of ps5 output
AAA SP games are f**ked aren't they? Publishers want all games to be grindy Destiny clones where the story is the bare minimum to justify running in circles and shooting orbs and/or bland robots. I've never bought a game like this and I'm flabbergasted that gamers are still surprised when games like this turn out to be crap
@Stevemalkpus My guess is that FW originally planned a larger scale OW sequel to Chapter 1, but, err, 'current events' made that difficult for the Ukrainian dev studio. So they made a smaller scale reimagining of an old game, adapted to be a sequel.
@InsaneWade That's not a bad compromise. Current gen, last gen, classic, then retro. Even then it's unclear of where the classic/retro boundary is, though.
I think a good way is that any thing before 'last gen' is retro. Sure it's arbitrary, but what other definition is there? 'Before 1995? 1997? 2000?' no matter what year it is? That's both arbitrary and increasingly meaningless. It kind of reminds me of how our current era from 1979 is sometimes called 'Modern Britain'. Surely every era of any kind needs to end sometime?
Can Devs please stop making menu navigation happen with a pseudo mouse cursor in console games! Having a simple grid/list with the d-pad/ analogue stick is fine. Is this literally because Destiny does it?
@thechetearly I had no problem with the combat in Witcher 3 (PS4), but then again, some of my favourite games are Firewatch and Suzerain. Not exactly combat-focussed!
@Rob_230 I can easily imagine some dumb exec thinking that setting something in the same universe as another thing somehow guarantees sales equal to that other thing.
@Truegamer79 What do the fins actually do? Cooling? The only other answer I see is something about customisable faceplates who seem to far too much about customisable faceplates.
Maybe revision no.4 will fix this. That being said I bet a lot of repair folks get dubious 'i was delicately handling it with velvet gloves and for no reason at all it just stopped working!'
@Uncharted2007 For better or worse, Mirage looks to be a different beast to Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla and the AC Infinity titles look like a new soft reboot, so they're probably worth keeping an eye on.
@somnambulance My guess is that cross-gen will drop off in late 2023 (Usual 2 year period + an extra year due to massive stock shortages etc.). If we're still getting 8th gen games in 2024, then that'd be ridiculous.
I'm already seeing a lot of people saying this gen should be killed off early. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen as it'd lead to a lot of wasted money and even more stock shortages? I think pro/slim versions should be released in 1-2 years with the 9th gen getting a 2nd launch from then.
Can these people who are against a remaster remember not to buy (or worse, preorder) it, then? If these remasters sell poorly, Sony will stop making them
@4kgk2 The thing is, they sort of have to show off stuff for next year. As far as I know, the only confirmed Sony first party game for 2023 is Spiderman 2?
This weird hysteria in the US over 'adults only' really confuses me. Loads of video games are rated 18+ in the UK and Europe. I see loads of bbfc/pegi '18' rated games.
@Korgon Plus it's a bit churlish to pit them together when we barely know anything about the game. On the plus side, 9th century Baghdad, (presumably) medieval Japan and witch trial (1600's?) era (what is now) Germany could be fun. I'm praying they keep the history tour though.
@nessisonett Good point, Do we know when this game takes place? If it's set during the 'warring states' era, then it could be set 200-300 years after GOT. And presumably on the Japanese mainland too, not a relatively small island.
I'm excited for the setting, and the idea of going a bit back to the older games sounds interesting. BUT, although losing the bloat, level gating and padding would be awesome IMO, other RPG stuff like dialogue choices and skill trees seems just fine, IMO. Ripping stuff out doesn't automatically make a game good, and I remember that the older AC games had plenty of padding, too.
TLDR: I'm worried this game might lose the good stuff about RPGs while keeping the bad stuff
@SinfulDestroyer
I love your optimism, but let's see their games in action, first.
By the way, I'm pretty worried by how many gamers don't know that Telltale are (sort of) back. I hope their new games sell decently. I'm super excited about The Expanse and TWAU2. Especially as I think the team behind TWAU2 has a lot of old TellTale devs and Deck Nine have more than proved themselves with LIS:BTS and TC.
@BAMozzy I think that future is possible at some point. MS and Sony (and maybe others) will still make consoles, but they are essentially streaming boxes. And each major publisher has a streaming service, i.e. everything is exclusive but also nothing is exclusive. I don't think this'll become reality until the end of the 10th gen, though. (Say 2034?)
Edit: Also, I think PS+ Premium and GamePass could eventually become available on their 10th gen competitors, too.

@TrickyDicky99 Won't buy the previous gen version (makes sense) or won't buy it, at all (I don't get that, TBH)

@PSXDave People love saying PSX so much, they're doing it for every PlayStation! What does the 'X' stand for? I've always called it the PS1?

You'd think they could reuse a lot of those assets for an AC1 remake. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that was a season pass bonus.
