Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2, and Infinite Wealth are all in the running for me. It's been a great year for games. Also been digging deep into my trophy list to platinum games I fell off of from years ago. Rediscovered a few that I have been really enjoying!
Too many good games to play. I have yet to invest any time in a free to play game and the only live service I have played is Helldivers II and COD. Pretty much done with COD and Helldivers II is a couple hours a week. This game looks pretty but I just don’t find the format engaging.
@Orpheus79V Love all the context, thanks for the additional information. I have been saying the articles on here need more background information and explanation for a while now. If you read the comments under the articles, they are filled with mostly the same misinformation and misunderstanding that gets spread when the information shared by the article is cherry picked from a broader topic.
@jFug Also, 18 years ago the player base was tiny compared to now. The original Dead Rising only sold 3.3 million lifetime copies. Remaking it almost two decades later is totally fine as (1) its a really good game more people should get a chance to play and (2) the quality of life updates will make it much more accessible for people who weren't playing so long ago.
Also, remaking old popular IPs is good for the entire industry right now. New IPs are launching and failing spectacularly on a regular basis, so bringing back older games is cheaper and a lot less risky for developers. This game will need to sell many less copies than a new IP to be profitable and allow Capcom to keep making games.
Wasn't the original a complete flop? I am not sure there is even an audience for a sequel that would warrant any development, not to mention such a long development cycle.
Been working on the Cyberpunk 2077 platinum and playing some smaller games on the side. Just got the plats for Dredge and Dave the Diver the past few weeks, going to start up Deliver us Mars later today. Really enjoyed Deliver us the Moon so we will see how the sequel holds up!
@Bez87 The most recent sales figures on Demon's Souls Remake I could find are 1.8M as of two years after launch. I agree that I think Bloodborne remake would get a significant bump due to Elden Ring's success, but I still think it caps at around 10M lifetime sales. Also that 68% statistic is from PSNProfiles which is an opt-in service mostly for "core" gamers who would be more likely to complete the game. So even among gamers who would be more likely to actually finish the game only 68% beat the first boss. You can find the actual percentage in your trophy list but I didn't want to dig down my list because I played it so long ago.
The reality is that outside something like Elden Ring, which had unprecedented success, people bounce off FromSoftware games very quickly. I do think PS should greenlight a Bloodborne remake pronto (and probably already has) just for the good will.
Looks interesting. Between Balatro and Inscryption I have been playing a lot of card games on PS5 recently. Working on the Plat for Inscryption (not even going to try with Balatro) and then maybe I will pick this up!
@Bez87 Only 68% of people beat the first boss, and less than 50% completed the game according to trophy data. I dunno I think bloodbourne has a strong following but it won't be a big seller. Maybe because of how much people have been talking about it post release it will bump to 10M on a remake.
@__jamiie AI still has a major hurdle with copyright law. Currently assets/codes created with AI have no copyright protection so while AI will be useful with "grunt work" such as compiling, it is not an effective tool for creation if you want to ensure other people just can't steal your art/assets from the game. Although I agree MS is in a good place to start using AI to reduce costs.
@PSme It's an interesting industry because what "core" and "casual" gamers want are often at odds with each other. "Casual" gamers make up a much larger subset of the consumer base, but they have the games they want already (COD, FIFA, Fortnite). "Core" gamers want the innovative and groundbreaking games, but don't generate enough revenue to make many of those games sustainable/profitable if you want to push the bounds of tech and fidelity.
Overall, there are way to many games being made to capture enough of an audience for their respective studios to thrive. I don't think there is by any means a crash like 1983 coming, but the landscape will be very different in the next 5-10 years.
@GagaOooLaLa the Beatles have had two major motion picture releases centered around their music in the past 20 years (2007 & 2019) and are still massively influential.
Even outside this strange story, leaks and reporting on leaks is really taking the fun out of announcements which are a huge part of the industry. Now that every site reports on leaks/tweets it’s impossible to just go in blind. I have no social media and still had the Astro Bot reveal spoiled for me, I think from this site.
@nessisonett Yea I bought that only because a friend wanted me to play with him and I ended up getting the Platinum. Sometimes its nice to get something simple and expected and sometimes you want something new and unique. This game looks like its going to work for me.
@Beerheadgamer82 that’s a bummer to hear I have one trophy left in Dave the diver and was about to hop into dredge. I save dredge for last because I thought it looked better!
@trev666 It’s crazy. The different box means the least of all this generation and a small portion of the internet doesn’t want to let that go. But because that extremely small portion is super vocal, websites will keep reporting on it like it’s some major thing. The console war does not exist outside some Twitter warriors and YouTubers but it is constantly discussed.
@Rmg0731 it’s the sixth highest selling PS exclusive of all time. Four games in seven years, one of which is a short vr title is not crazy. Only two mainline entries and two spin offs. It checks out to me.
@Specky yea factions was some of the best multiplayer I ever played. Really sad it’s never been updated. Here is hoping it ships with TLOU3. I think there is a space for the tacked on multiplayer for single player games. Designed to be supported for a few years instead of just continuing forever. It’s my preferred multiplayer. I don’t want to play the same game for seven years, I want a fun, additional mode, for a game I love and then move on.
@Medic_alert it’s a Lego version of their IP. It’s free extra sales and can influence people to buy a PS5. It’s pretty smart. Horizon 3 will still be PS5 and PC only.
@HUMPERDOO Wow that adds a lot of context. Story should probably be amended to include that to prevent the spread of false narratives. Running with only partial information will just result in comments about how the execs ruined Rocksteady, when that is clearly not the full story.
Honestly if you are Rocksteady and your creative leads choose to pursue a multiplayer puzzle game... and then choose to switch to a live service suicide squad game it puts a lot more blame on their shoulders rather than execs. They had already chosen to abandon the single player games that made them successful.
@GeeForce I mean that is likely how it would be interpreted yes. It is capable of 8K output and I think if 8K media had been more widely adopted between now and 2020 it would have been used.
EDIT: I think also if a class action were to be brought to certify as a member of the class you would need to prove ownership of an 8K display, so it would be a really small class.
Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act (using the U.S. here because it is by far the biggest customer base, although the EU and England tend to have better consumer protection laws):
To bring a claim for false advertising, the plaintiff must show: (1) The defendant made false or misleading statements as to their own products (or another’s); [Difficult to meet the burden of proof on this one. The box says it can output in 8K, and it can. Not likely that an argument that Sony doesn't release games able to meet an 8K resolution would make this a false or misleading statement].
(2) Actual deception occurred, or at least a tendency to deceive a substantial portion of the intended audience; [More arguable that you can meet this one, as an informed consumer would know this is in reference to media playback and not games, but there is potentially an argument to be made that an uninformed consumer would believe this means games would consistently run at 8K. Still doubtful a claim gets by on this element].
(3) The deception is material in that it is likely to influence purchasing decisions; [Again, this is one of the better points of argument here. However, I think the relative unavailability of 8K tvs and their low adoption rate really works against a claim].
(4) The advertised goods travel in interstate commerce; and [Finally, a claimant easily gets this element! Still need four others though...].
(5) There was a likelihood of injury to the plaintiff. [Not likely as maybe 1% of ps5 owners own an 8K display].
Before saying "false advertising" or claiming a law has been broken and their could be a class action etc., I think its important we take time to understand and apply the law... even in a quick bare bones way. Otherwise, we are just contributing to the noise and spread of misinformation that the internet has become at large.

Here's a hot take. I am enjoying the silence from Sony. The excitement of not knowing what is coming will make the reveals that much sweeter. I prefer this much more to early announcements that take 5+ years to release and may turn to vaporware (i.e., Perfect Dark, TLOU online, Hellblade 2). Keep me in suspense! There are a wealth of games to play right now so I am not currently looking for a new release, but when GoT, TLOU 3, a new Uncharted (from the phantom San Diego studio??) finally do get announced I hope its not through leaks.
@BIG3 My dream for the new, cancelled factions, was to use the survivor system from the old faction in an actual base you were building up. Essentially, you could make your own Bill's Town by going out into the open world, finding survivors and completing storylines, and then bringing people back to your own base to build better housing, food supply, weapons, and other resources. PvP mode would work well with this too, like a DarkZone where you can compete in matches similar to the old factions mode and steal equipment and resources from other players when you win. Can't sell enough skins to make that dream a worthwhile investment though!
