@Galv 🤣 you must have had a magical PS3. This game has run of the mill graphics but it, of course, blows the best PS3 game out of the water.

@KilloWertz Sometimes a seven just hits. Alan Wake 2 was an absolute 10/10 for me but I don’t expect, or even want that, from every game. Sometimes I just want a simple dumb game that will hit the spot. Outlaws filled that perfectly.

@LikelySatan The comments on this site have taken a hit the past few years. It is 99% negative and without any actual insight or discussion. It is unfortunate really.

Edit: also I thought Push’s 6/10 was a totally fair review, I only ranked it one point higher but I enjoyed it and got the plat.

@Vault_Mcfly I mean Sony has to follow the sales. I do think they need more variety but if a genre or series doesn’t sell then they pretty much have to follow the wider audience reception.

I’m hoping they get progressively harder but no complaints from me. Game is an absolute joy to play.

@Markatron84 Not at all. Entire series sold about ~9 million copies over seven games. Perfectly respectable but not enough to garner another game over horizon which hit ~30 million with just two games.

@Keyblade-Dan It confuses me as well. Especially when Killzone sold so soft in comparison to Horizon. Also, horizon is a an IP only seven years old and new IP is what a significant portion of the fanbase wants.

@NEStalgia I agree on the income bifurcation issue. And while hardware is down, it’s still healthy outside of Xbox. I think every generation that did well for a platform holder slumped the following generation. PS2 to a slump PS3. PS4 to a much slighter slump with PS5. No COVID and economic decline PS5 could have likely easily kept pace. Software is down but average spending by consumer is up.

The market has changed so it will be a while until we can see if Sony has made the right plays. It’s the most interesting time to be a fan of the industry since Nintendo/Sega and the founding of the ESRB.

@NEStalgia I don’t think that’s what they are doing. I think the bet is that they have a product desirable enough to the average consumer to where they can release a higher end version. So far the market has shown they are correct with game price increase and strong sales of both the dual sense edge and portal. Sony has development cost issues but hardware I think they are on the money.

The cost of living increase is an issue but there are also several major areas where salaries are at an all time high. In my market average income for first year attorneys has skyrocketed. Holiday bonuses buy 10-12 ps5s. They are targeting a very specific market with the pro and I doubt they expect to sell more than 10M in its lifetime.

My point being depending on the product it’s smart to shift lower or smart to shift higher. Only time will tell!

Edit: interestingly, Xbox tried to shift lower price with the S and while more successful than the X, could not compete with the PS5. PS is the go to brand most consumers don’t really dig any deeper than that.

@NEStalgia I mean that increase is across the board. Food, housing, etc. has all massively increased.

Sony has to get a live service initiative off the ground. The landscape currently demands it. As much as it doesn’t appeal to me, there insistence on pouring resources into this sector is completely warranted.

Still interested. Will likely wait for a deep sale or play on extra.

@Fishnpeas 70 four years ago… if the story didn’t work for you time to let it go. Shoot I’ve spent more than that on a dinner I didn’t like before I don’t post on yelp about it four years later.

Games under a launcher are a no go for me. Designed as a time sink. “Why go to other sources we have so many options for you here!” This might be a great value to some people, but I like moving on from games after the plat/I get my fill of the game. Anything that advertises itself as an ongoing experience is pretty much dropped to the bottom of my to buy list.

@GamerGuy1970 It’s a common theme. Everyone acted like you would have to be stupid to want the portal but I use mine three times a week at least.

Sony’s brand is likely at an all time high with the average consumer since they are tracking close enough to PS4 after launching during a pandemic and mass economic downturn after. Lots of people forget enthusiasts who visit sites like this are a small part of the consumer base. Most consumers don’t even realize there has been a drought in the first party, they still see top selling big games with “PlayStation console exclusive” on them.

Xbox is certainly ceding the console space. Its next launch will be niche but may find some success in that niche. I honestly still think they purchased ABK for King more so than activision and blizzard. Their ideal outcome would be turning their platform into an accessible mobile style platform with gamepass as their more successful and streamlined Apple Arcade. That’s likely to generate substantial income and cut production cost but at the expense of quality and established Xbox fans. It’s a really interesting time to follow games as a business.

@RudeAnimat0r any game that attempts to demand as much time as Fortnite does is an immediate no go for me. Since it made the move from GaaS to GaaP it further assured I would never download it. Absolute bummer that’s the rise of GaaS… whose sole purpose is to eat your time and slowly drain money from you over the years has coincided with a downturn in profitability of single player experiences. Yes, there are still single player success stories, but GaaS/GaaP has lead to a seismic shift in how much of the audience consumes games and I stand by the belief that $70 up front is less predatory a business practice than “free to play.”

@Jey887 The saddest part is, as an American, I’ve only ever seen this culture war online. It’s like a weird made-up internet controversy that no one actually cares about to discuss enough in person.

@twitchtvpat It’s not much different at all. The only difference would be if the user knows their data is being sold.

Always opt out, set full privacy, etc. Technology is moving extremely fast and you never know the use case for your data. If you live in a country/state with strong data privacy laws that’s a plus… but laws are reactive to the use case and not proactive.

@DennisReynolds Perhaps confusing it with the Acolyte director? I believe she said something along those lines. I don’t remember seeing anyone say that about this game.

@Nem to be fair Star Wars fans have been complaining about no stories outside of the Jedi for years. There is a lot of story to tell about outlaws, scoundrels, and crime syndicates in the universe and it’s arguably more interesting than the jedi as it hasn’t been explored as thoroughly. This game did an okay job of it but I think they were too conservative with the approach.

@Tecinthebrain I beat the story and the only thing I could guess is a woman main character? But Star Wars has a history of strong women characters. In a New Hope Princess Leia takes charge of her own rescue and spends the next two movies leading the rebellion and killing the most notorious kingpin in the galaxy. Padme led the defense of her entire planet and the Jedi involved were essentially in her service. I’m not sure exactly what “woke” even means but this game certainly isn’t an example of it.

@cuttlefishjones even then PS3 outsold Xbox in the end on the back of strong exclusives. I still think gamepass is a viable way forward but only if they focus on on a better production pipeline.

@RudeAnimat0r too many games and now with subscription services, too many backlogs. To sell at launch it needs hype. Outlaws release was near Black Myth Wukong, Astrobot, and Warhammer, all of which had more hype. It also competes for sales with perennial time sink games. Industry is going through a major change right now.

@OneWingedAngel Just throwing it out there Mickey Mouse and Friends and Winnie the Pooh (British but owned by Disney since 1961) are the largest most recognized IP, at least by revenue, in the U.S.

@TheDudeElDuderino I would say Gamepass changes the equation a little. Although how it’s changed next generation is yet to be seen. We have seen small devs praise gamepass and mid sized devs regret gamepass. It’s a huge gamble on revenue for them. Next gen will be interesting and we will see if Xbox can gain market share in the console space.

@mountain_spider AC has always had more that a ‘slight twist.’ There are barely any actually sources on Yasuke. Truth is neither side can prove a definitive version of who he was. The story of a foreigner gaining some respect and power in Japan during this time period is potentially interesting because it would be so unlikely.

@naruball People don’t source anything anymore we live in an age of misinformation. So much so that the internet is beginning to be so cluttered with AI generated content (with proven inaccuracy and hallucinations) that AI developers are struggling to scrape new content for training.

On a brighter note I like fish out of water stories so I think Yasuke is promising. I don’t like AC so I will pass no matter what.

@Yousef- Kojima and Lake should do what Druckmann did and partner with someone in the field who already is showing success in film/television. Help make the transition easier and more successful.

@Lup Concord’s estimated revenue was $1,000,000. That is an absolutely devastating number for a game that size. Worst investment since those VC guys bought an NFT of Dune thinking it gave them the rights to make a movie.

@Frmknst I didn’t say that. You assumed that’s what I thought for some reason though. Likely because you are a constant source of negativity on the site and spend most of your time being condescending and judgmental of others. This game will look and perform better on the Pro, where I will play it.
