I'm not a HP fan. HL is fine? I'm more interested in seeing how WB starts fleecing fans after HL blew up. I can't bring myself to believe they'll have the integrity to resist exploiting fans as much as possible.

@Intr1n5ic @tameshiyaku Have you two ever played The Ascent? It's excellent. One of the best realized cyberpunk settings I've ever seen. It's gorgeous too, which helps. Check it out.

MH is definitely not for me anymore, but I love to see Capcom continue to kill it.

@Tsushima Yeah, I get that. This game is very combat heavy, and it looks like some Blue Stinger shiz, lol. Might feel better to play then to watch though. Siren is not combat focused.
I do wonder at what point the jank of certain creators becomes "charm" ie Bethesda RPGs. Swery and Suda 51 have been there for a while now. Maybe we have a new initiate.

@Victor_Meldrew I like it in AC when you fight with Da Vinci's tank. Or when the Pope Wizard fights aliens for a magic apple.

I'd definitely put some games on hold if this was $50 or so. The game's name tastes bad though. Like a slur, lol.

I still play almost exclusively PS4 games on my PS5. Even then, it's on my Portal, so it's a compromised experience anyway. I'll get a Pro if my base model dies, maybe. Hopefully I can get a disc drive while the DRM servers are still up...

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare It's hard to narrow down to just one because I really like the genre, but Thief: The Metal Age, SC Chaos Theory, and Dishonored 2, all for different reasons. I like Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes a lot too, but that's tough because V is obviously not finished. I want to get back into the Styx games also.
It is pretty funny us here talking so much about the most bland, milquetoast publisher out there...besides Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. That game is going to be fawned upon so much as a sleeper hit in the future.

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare Hell that's opposite of me. Any game that makes me feel like a kid again is ace in my book. I also just don't care about writing in my games, usually. I don't come to games for the story.
Anyway! I appreciate a civil discussion, man. I'm not interested in the game unless the stealth is excellent...but it won't be. Open world and Ubisoft means bad AI, and AC has never been good with stealth.

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I get that. I go crazy seeing what they do with US military uniforms on TV etc because they're always jacked tf up, lol. I just roll my eyes and think "to get that right would've taken seconds." I'm a combat soldier and I don't then write my senator about the depiction of soldiers in Army Wives, or whatever.

Hell man, if this were EA or something that title would be "Still Hasn't Recouped." Not that I care. Just funny.

@Zuljaras Most of these sites barely get by, pay a pittance, and can't seem to understand that advertisements covering entire articles is bad.

@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I didn't catch any of that messaging, at all. Where did Ubisoft ever explicitly say that the inclusion of Yasuke was in response to gamers not understanding that poc exist? How do you know that the people who created, wrote, or designed the characters you are referring to don't see themselves in the character? There's black people who worked on this game.
To be clear I agree that inclusivity with huge products like this is almost always to get into pockets. A shot of the entire Veilguard cast looks like it should have "You too can own your own home" as the caption. No matter how diverse the team is, I just don't see that happening naturally. But I mean ..you guys just waking up to how gross big publishers are?
You want to assume something, assume it's about money. These things are almost always about money. People love to yell "woke" about a company like Disney or something, meanwhile Disney is hiding poc on their posters in places that don't tolerate black people. Because money. I guess what I'm saying is a huge publisher like Ubisoft will always be looking for an angle to exploit. The outrage seems performative to me because like ...duh? What do people expect? If (as I keep hearing) it adds nothing for Yasuke to be black or for the idiot elf lady in Veilguard to be Asian, then it probably doesn't take anything away from the game either. If it does, why?
I see you bolded that last sentence. You haven't experienced this game, and can't assume intentions of the creators or the quality of the writing based on what they've shown us. You can assume all of that because it's Ubisoft, and a videogame, sure.

These conversations are important, but this isn't a conversation. I applaud them for not kowtowing to the performance artist bigots. The bigots that know so much about what offends who (architecture, flags, tori gates), they should go work for Sweet Baby Inc.

@McTwist I don't really see what is political about this toothless, flaccid game. It's the definition of "make something for everyone, make something for no one" imo. It's interesting that the characters seem to engage in a lot of "therapy language." Like "Hey! One step at a time!" "You got this, we believe in you!" etc etc etc. People even tangentially involved in mental wellness/health know that abusers who learn to use this language are the absolute worst of the lot, lol. This game isn't political, it's just desperate. If it were political, that would suggest it had a soul.

@Zuljaras Misgendering to be a big meany is so weird once you come out the other side of it and just realize people are idiots. Like take my 15 year old. Her whole childhoold, people said she acted like a girl, dressed like a girl, played with girl toys, and was trying to be a girl. When she finally said "You are right! I'm a girl!" those SAME kids said "Pfffft, nope! You're a boy!" It's so asinine. Luckily, she is savvy enough to just laugh at it.

Definitely not a game for me. Whether it is successful or not doesn't matter. This ain't Bioware, folks, and EA is easy to ignore. I'm looking forward to Avowed.

Looks incredible to me. One of my favorite genres, and I love how this game shows off the Metal Slug art. Just give me a cart w the entire game on it. It's been a really long time since a tactics game has sunk its teeth into me.

@Puketapu I think he is the reviewer I usually agree with the most. My favorite is Jeff Gerstmann, but I almost never agree with him. Weird how that works.

It's so crazy how DA went from dark and bloody to baby's first RPG. I want Bioware to do well, but maaaaaan they need to pull it together.

@LifeGirl what if someone says "this game feels bad/good?" I can tell you there's been several times that I've seen gameplay and thought something looked really middling, but came around hard when I put my hands on the game. Hotline Miami is probably the go to example for me. The other end is something like Xenoblade or Isaac, which looked great but I couldn't stand the way they felt to play.

I started the Retrorealms Ash Vs Evil Dead campaign and so far I love it. I also grabbed Sniper Elite 5 because of the suggestions from the community, and I'm really impressed. I still don't get the series penchant for daytime missions, but otherwise it's a really good time. Hope everyone has a great weekend, if you get one.
